Description

[0001] “A FILED REPLICABLE AND ADJUSTABLE BASS PORT ATTACHMENT ASSEMBLY FOR SOUND SYSTEM”

[0002] FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0003] The present invention relates to a bass port attachment assembly for a sound system. More particularly, the present invention relates to a field replicable and adjustable bass port attachment in a loudspeaker device, which facilitates to tune speaker or subwoofer cabinet for acoustic response.

[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0005] A woofer or bass speaker is a type of loudspeaker device to reproduce low-frequency sounds, typically from around 20 Hz to 500 Hz or higher, depending on the specific structure and capabilities. Woofers are commonly found in various audio setups, including home theater systems, car audio systems, professional sound reinforcement systems, and standalone subwoofers. They work in conjunction with other speaker device, such as midrange and tweeters, to create a balanced and full-range audio experience.

[0006] Woofers are usually larger in size compared to other devices in a speaker system. Woofers are made to move a larger volume of air, allowing woofers to produce lower frequencies with greater accuracy and efficiency. This is achieved through bass port that enhances low-end frequencies by channeling sound from the rear of the speaker diaphragm.

[0007] There are several types of bass port structures like straight pipe, flared opening, both sides flared, damping material filled ports etc. The end user must choose a product, which suits his acoustic preference in the demo room. Once purchased, user is not able to change the bass port parameter according to their home acoustic or speaker placement that restricts the user sound experience in their suitable environment.

[0008] In addition to this, the problem arises when an end user chooses a product based on its acoustic performance in a demo room or controlled environment. Once the product is purchased, the user is unable to change the bass port parameter to accommodate their

[0009] 1

[0010] SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) home's unique acoustic properties or speaker placement. This limitation negatively impacts the user's sound experience in their specific environment.

[0011] US9635454B2, discloses a speaker cabinet includes at least one loudspeaker and at least one port, the port having an outlet formed in a wall of the cabinet, an inlet inside the cabinet, and a casing connecting the inlet and the outlet together, the inlet of the port further having at least one recess in the casing. The main drawback of this invention is that the user is not able to change the bass port parameter according to their home acoustic or speaker placement that reduces the user sound experience in their suitable environment.

[0012] EP3544315A1, discloses a bass reflex port including: a tubular body portion, and a surface forming portion which is board-like, and continuous to an inner wall of the tubular body portion and which has a surface extending radially outwardly from an opening end of the tubular body portion disposed in a housing of a speaker, wherein the surface forming portion extends linearly in a direction away from a tube axis of the tubular body portion in a cross section parallel to the tube axis. The main drawback of this invention is that the user is not able to change the bass port parameter according to their home acoustic or speaker placement that reduces the user sound experience in their suitable environment.

[0013] US8430200B2, discloses a speaker apparatus includes a phase inversion-type enclosure in which a speaker unit and a bass reflex port are installed, the bass reflex port having a tubular body whose hollow cross-sectional area gradually becomes smaller from one opening side toward an inside of the bass reflex port in an axial direction of the bass reflex port, and a length in one direction of the hollow cross section of the tubular body not changing and constant along the axial direction. The main drawback of this invention is that the user is not able to change the bass port parameter according to their home acoustic or speaker placement that reduces the user sound experience in their suitable environment.

[0014] US9794680, discloses an acoustic insert for lining a loudspeaker reflex port, the insert comprising an elongate hollow tube formed of a flexible material, having an outer wall sized and configured to seat within the port and an inner wall extending in the elongate direction, the inner wall having a circumference which varies along the length of the insert, When inserted in a port, the insert alters the port resonance so as to vary the acoustic performance of the loudspeaker. The main drawback of this invention is that the user is not able to change the bass port parameter according to their home acoustic or speaker placement that reduces the user sound experience in their suitable environment.

[0015] GB2352924A, discloses a speaker system for a display includes a speaker 1 for presenting a sound, a rear sound box 2 coupled to a back of the speaker, and a changeable duct 3 disposed to pass through a front surface of the speaker and to be positioned in the rear sound box, and detachably fitted to the speaker, for inverting a phase of a particular frequency of sound among sound generated in a back surface of the speaker. This permits, not only the change of the duct only for phase inversion of a desired frequency of a sound, but also to discharge of the phase inverted sound to the front of the speaker system. The main drawback of this invention is that the user is not able to change the bass port parameter according to their home acoustic or speaker placement that reduces the user sound experience in their suitable environment.

[0016] EP2779692B1, discloses a bass reflex port (30B) having a tubular shape for air flows, wherein an angle of a first inner radial line with respect to a reference plane including a center axis of the bass reflex port differs from an angle of a second inner radial line with respect to the reference plane, the first line being orthogonal to the center axis and passing a first characteristic point on an inner circumference of the bass reflex port in a first transverse cross section perpendicular to the center axis, the second line being orthogonal to the center axis and passing a second characteristic point corresponding to the first characteristic point and located on the inner circumference in a second transverse cross section perpendicular to the center axis, the first transverse cross section and the second transverse cross section differing form each other in position in a direction of extension of the center axis. The main drawback of this invention is that the user is not able to change the bass port parameter according to their home acoustic or speaker placement that reduces the user sound experience in their suitable environment.

[0017] Therefore, there is a need of a bass port attachment assembly for a loudspeaker device, which facilitate the user to change the bass port parameter according to the home acoustic or speaker placement that enhances the user sound experience in the suitable environment. [0062] EXAMPLE 1 Working of the invention

[0063] The present invention provides a field replicable and adjustable bass port attachment assembly for a sound system, which is economical and highly flexible, simultaneously providing more accurate audio tonal quality as per user requirement.

[0064] The port holder (2) is adapted to be secured to a main speaker enclosure (6) provided therein of said sound system (1). The counter thread (8) of a port attachment (3, 4) and an internal thread (7) of said port holder (2) gets rotatably engaged with each other through said port attachment tool (5) so as to provide a secured connection between said port holder (2) and said port attachment (3, 4) to adjust the bass port parameter of the sound system (1) as per user preference. The port adjusting tool (5) has a rod structure (11) with a spoke structure (12) provided at the one end of said rod structure (11). The spoke structure (12) has a cavity (13) provided therein. The cavity (13) of said port adjusting tool (5) gets detachably engaged with a plurality of internal spokes (9, 10) of said port attachment (3, 4) and facilitates the rotational motion of said port attachment

[0065] (3,4) into said port holder (2)

[0066] The port attachment (3, 4) is attached to said port holder (2) at different positions, viz. anywhere from start till end, thus adjusting the bass port parameter to fine tune the acoustic of the sound system (1). The port attachment (3, 4) gets attached to said port holder (2) in complete 5 turns before reaching the end of the port holder (2).

[0067] The sound system (1) is placed facing a foam padded wall with 4 ft of distance, to minimize the reflection being picked by the microphone placed close to the woofer. Using a signal generator and amplifier the speaker was fed with the sin wave audio signals and the microphone was used to capture the sound. The readings were then analyzed for any differences in the frequency when said port attachment assembly is used in the different positions.

[0068] To establish the effect of the port attachment assembly, a reading without any port attachment assembly i.e. when the placeholder was sealed was taken as a reference for the enclosure and compared with the port attachment assembly setup, which includes both said port attachment i.e. port attachment (3) without flared mouth D70 and port attachment (4) with flared mouth D55. The port attachment (3, 4) is placed at three different position start (0%), middle (50%) and end (100%) adjusting the bass port parameter to fine tune the acoustic of the sound system (1). The port attachment (3, 4) gets attached to said port holder (2) in complete 5 turns before reaching the end of the port holder (2).

[0069] In total, 7 states frequency comparison of the port attachment assembly were recorded i.e. a reading without any port attachment assembly as reference (shown in Figure 11) and with port attachment (3, 4).

[0070] The frequency comparison reading without any port attachment assembly and with the port attachment (3) i.e. port attachment without flared mouth (D70) placed in the port holder (2) at three different positions start 0%, middle 50%, and at end D70 at 100% is compared and shown in Figure 12.

[0071] The frequency comparison reading without any port attachment assembly and with the port attachment (4) i.e. port attachment with flared mouth (D55) placed in the port holder (2) at three different positions start 0%, middle 50%, and at end (D55) at 100% is compared and shown in Figure 13.

[0072] For every state, the frequency domain was plotted from 15 Hz to 120Hz with increments of 1Hz. Hence, using the values the readings of the relative gain of each both port attachment and the position is calculated. A relative gain is the difference in readings between the sealed case and when the port attachments are added shown as a percentage. The gain in the percentage when port attachment (3,4) are adjusted at different position such as start 0%, middle 50%, and at end at 100% and a range of negative gain, where the frequencies are subdued are shown in Figure 14, Figure 15 and combination of both port attachment (3,4) is shown in Figure 16. A negative gain is when the sealed case reading is higher than the reading of the port attachments. The percentage is in negative. The frequency ranges that have a positive percentage change (shown in Figure 14, Figure 15, and Figure 16) indicates a boost in frequencies.

[0073] Both port attachments (3, 4) provides a different frequency response, further it is noted that adjusting the depth of the port attachment (3, 4) by turning the port attachment (3, 4) through the port holder (2) changes the frequency response and the bandwidth of the boost of the sound system (1). The greater number of turns of port attachment (3, 4) leads to a lower frequency range.

[0074] Frequency bandwidth of the port assembly is adjustable by turning the port attachment (3,4) from the start position to the end is shown in Table 1 and the Frequency band that has negative gain due to the port attachment (3,4) is shown in Table 2.

[0075] Table 1

[0076] Table 2

[0077] Therefore, the present invention provides a field replicable and adjustable bass port attachment assembly for a sound system, that changes the acoustic response of the sound system which is economical and highly flexible, simultaneously providing more accurate audio tonal quality as per user preference.
