AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Mobility in the Lower-Power Wake-Up Signal (LPWUS) mode is unclear and needs further development, as existing technologies struggle to efficiently manage cell reselection while maintaining power savings and low latency.

Method used

A terminal device determines a set of candidate cells for cell reselection, ranks them based on a metric, and selects a subset where the metric is within a range of the highest ranked cell. If the selected candidate cell supports LPWUS monitoring, the device performs cell reselection to that cell.

Benefits of technology

This approach enables efficient cell reselection in LPWUS mode, ensuring the terminal device camps on LPWUS-capable cells as much as possible, thereby achieving power savings and maintaining low latency.

Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to devices and methods of communication. In one aspect, a terminal device in a first mode may determine a set of candidate cells for a cell reselection, the set of candidate cells being ranked in a descending order based on a metric. Then the terminal device may determine a subset of candidate cells from the set of candidate cells, the metric of a candidate cell in the subset of candidate cells being within a range to the metric of a highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells. If a first candidate cell in the subset of candidate cells supports an LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, the terminal device may perform the cell reselection to the first candidate cell. In this way, an LPWUS-capable terminal device may camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible.

Description

DEVICES AND METHODS OF COMMUNICATIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication, and in particular, to methods, devices and computer storage media of communication for mobility in a lower-power wake-up signal (LPWUS) mode.BACKGROUND

[0002] Currently, it has been proposed to use main radio to describe a regular communication device performing normal radio resource control (RRC) states and additionally design an LPWUS receiver to monitor an LPWUS for turn-on of the main radio. When a terminal device is not receiving a service, the terminal device may enter an LPWUS mode during which the main radio is turned off and the LPWUS receiver is turned on to monitor the LPWUS. When an LPWUS is received, the terminal device may turn on the main radio and turn off the LPWUS receiver. However, mobility in the LPWUS mode is still unclear and needs to be further developed.SUMMARY

[0035] In some examples, values, procedures, or apparatus are referred to as ‘best, ’ ‘lowest, ’ ‘highest, ’ ‘minimum, ’ ‘maximum, ’ or the like. It will be appreciated that such descriptions are intended to indicate that a selection among many used functional alternatives can be made, and such selections need not be better, smaller, higher, or otherwise preferable to other selections.

[0036] In the context of the present disclosure, the term “above” herein may be interchangeably used with “higher than or equal to” or “greater than or equal to” . The term “below” herein may be interchangeably used with “lower than or equal to” or “smaller than or equal to” .

[0037] In the context of the present disclosure, the term “a connected state” may be interchangeably used with “an RRC_CONNECTED state” , the term “an idle state” may be interchangeably used with “an RRC_IDLE state” , and the term “an inactive state” may be interchangeably used with “an RRC_INACTIVE state” .

[0038] In the context of the present disclosure, the term “turn on” may be interchangeably used with “activated” , “wake up” , “switch on” , “state transition” or “warm up” . In the context of the present disclosure, the term “turn off” may be interchangeably used with “deactivated” , “sleep” , “switch off” , “state transition” , or “warm down” .

[0039] In the context of the present disclosure, for an inactive or idle state, the term “LPWUS mode” may mean that UE monitors an LPWUS within an inactive or idle state while a main radio is in ultra-deep-sleep or is non-active or is turned off. For a connected state, the term “LPWUS mode” may mean that UE monitors an LPWUS within a connected state while a main radio is in light-sleep or micro-sleep or is non-active or is turned off. The term “LPWUS mode” may be interchangeably used with “LPWUS state” or any other  suitable names.

[0040] In general, during an LPWUS mode, a main radio may stay in a sleep mode. A terminal device may still stay in any RRC state (e.g., an idle or inactive or connected state) but may not perform regular operations in those RRC states. The terminal device may only need to monitor an LPWUS or perform some actions related to an LPWUS mode, e.g., synchronization and / or measurement in an LPWUS mode.

[0041] In the context of the present disclosure, the term “LPWUS” is used to describe a signal sent by a network in an LPWUS mode and monitored by a low power receiver of a terminal device. The term “LPWUS” may be interchangeably used with “ultra-low-power wake up signal” or “wake up signal” or any other suitable names. The term “LPWUS-capable terminal device / cell” may refer to a terminal device / cell supporting an LPWUS mechanism.

[0042] The fifth generation (5G) devices consume tens of milliwatts in an idle or inactive state and hundreds of milliwatts in a connected state. Designing to prolong battery life is a necessity for improving energy efficiency as well as for better user experience. To meet battery life requirements, an enhanced discontinuous reception (eDRX) cycle with a large value is expected to be used. The eDRX cycle may result in high latency and thus is not suitable for services with requirements of both long battery life and low latency. For example, in fire detection and extinguishment use case, a long eDRX cycle cannot meet delay requirements. That is, eDRX is apparently not suitable for latency-critical use cases. Thus, it is expected to study an ultra-low power mechanism that can support low latency, e.g., lower than eDRX latency.

[0043] As mentioned above, an LPWUS mechanism has been proposed. In the LPWUS mechanism, a main radio is used to describe a regular communication device performing normal RRC states and an LPWUS receiver is additionally designed to monitor an LPWUS for turn-on of the main radio. When a terminal device is not receiving service, the terminal device may enter an LPWUS mode during which the main radio is turned off and the LPWUS receiver is turned on to monitor the LPWUS. The purpose of the LPWUS mechanism is also for power saving of the terminal device.

[0044] Currently, it tends to be agreed to introduce a low-power synchronization signal (LP-SS) measured by an LPWUS receiver and / or a synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel block (SSB) measured by a main radio during an LPWUS mode in an idle or inactive  state. This means that LPWUS mobility may be supported based on measurements. However, UE behaviors for a cell reselection during an LPWUS mode in an idle or inactive state are still unclear.

[0045] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions of communication so as to achieve a cell reselection in an LPWUS mechanism. In this way, a cell reselection rule may be defined for an LPWUS-capable terminal device, and an LPWUS-capable terminal device may camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible.

[0046] In another aspect, a terminal device in a first mode may determine a target cell based on a criterion for a cell reselection. If the target cell supports an LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, the terminal device may perform the cell reselection to the target cell. In this way, a cell reselection rule may also be defined for an LPWUS-capable terminal device, and an LPWUS-capable terminal device may camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible.

[0047] In still another aspect, a terminal device in a first mode may determine a candidate cell that supports an LPWUS monitoring in a first mode. If a metric of the candidate cell is above a seventh metric threshold during a time interval, the terminal device may perform a cell reselection to the candidate cell. In this way, a cell reselection rule may also be defined for an LPWUS-capable terminal device, and an LPWUS-capable terminal device may camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible.

[0048] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0049] EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK

[0050] FIG. 1A illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication network 100A in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1A, the communication network 100A may comprise a terminal device 110 and  network devices 120 and 130. The network device 120 may provide a serving cell (also referred to as a cell herein) 121 to serve one or more terminal devices. The access network device 130 may also provide a serving cell 131 to serve one or more terminal devices. In this example, the terminal device 110 is shown as being located in the cell 121 and served by the network device 120. In some embodiments, the network devices 120 and 130 may be the same network device. In some embodiments, the network devices 120 and 130 may be different network devices.

[0051] The network devices 120 and 130 may communicate with each other via an Xn interface. The terminal device 110 may communicate with any of the network device 120 and 130 via a Uu interface.

[0052] The terminal device 110 and any of the network device 120 and 130 may communicate with each other via a channel such as a wireless communication channel. The communications in the communication network 100A may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0053] It is to be understood that the number of devices or cells in FIG. 1A is given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication network 100A may include any suitable number of network devices and / or terminal devices and / cells adapted for implementing implementations of the present disclosure.

[0054] FIG. 1B illustrates a diagram 100B illustrating an example structure of a terminal device in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. For convenience, FIG. 1B is described in connection with the terminal device 110 of FIG. 1A.

[0055] As shown in FIG. 1B, the terminal device 110 may comprise an LPWUS receiver  141 and a main radio 142. The LPWUS receiver 141 is configured to monitor an LPWUS. The main radio 142 is configured as a regular communication device performing normal RRC states. It is to be understood that the LPWUS receiver and the main radio may have any other suitable names.

[0056] In some embodiments, the LPWUS receiver 141 may detect the LPWUS indicating turn-off of the main radio 142, and trigger the main radio 142 to enter a turn-off or deep-sleep state. In the turn-off or deep-sleep state, the terminal device 110 is not required to process a RRC idle or inactive or connected state procedure. In some embodiments, the LPWUS receiver 141 may detect the LPWUS indicating turn-on of the main radio 142, and trigger the main radio 142 to enter a turn-on state. In the turn-on state, the main radio 142 may perform a PDCCH monitoring or perform a paging monitoring or directly initiate a random access (RA) procedure.

[0057] FIG. 1C illustrates a diagram 100C illustrating an LPWUS mechanism in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. For convenience, FIG. 1C is described in connection with FIG. 1B. In this example, the turn-on state of the main radio 142 corresponds to a connected state of the terminal device 110. As shown in FIG. 1C, when the terminal device 110 enters a LPWUS mode, the LPWUS receiver 141 may turn on and the main radio 142 may not monitor PDCCH occasions. When the LPWUS receiver 141 detects a LPWUS (for example, WUS=1) indicating turn-on of the main radio 142, the LPWUS receiver 141 triggers the main radio 142 to turn on and the LPWUS receiver 141 turns off. In this case, the main radio 142 may start monitoring PDCCH occasions 151. Alternatively, upon RA completion, the main radio 142 may start monitoring the PDCCH occasions 151.

[0058] FIG. 1D illustrates a diagram 100D illustrating example RRM measurement in an LPWUS mode in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1D, an LPWUS monitoring may be performed in an LPWUS mode at LPWUS monitoring windows 170, 171 and 172. In this example, an LPWUS 180 is received in the LPWUS monitoring window 172. As shown in FIG. 1D, LP-SS / SSB measurement and synchronization may also be performed in the LPWUS mode, and measurement results may be used for mobility management such as a cell reselection.

[0059] In some embodiments, considering requirements of the LPWUS receiver 141 and the main radio 142 on signal reception are different, coverage of the LPWUS receiver 141  may not be the same as coverage of the main radio 142. In the example of FIG. 1A, the coverage 122 of the LPWUS receiver 141 is different from the coverage (i.e., the cell 121) of the main radio 142. If the terminal device 110 is in the coverage 122, the terminal device 110 may receive an LPWUS. If the terminal device 110 is out of the coverage 122, the terminal device 110 may not receive an LPWUS. In some alternative embodiments, the coverage of the LPWUS receiver 141 may be the same as the coverage of the main radio 142, e.g., the coverage 122 may be equal to the coverage of the cell 121.

[0060] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform neighboring cell measurements based one LP-SS or SSB measurements during an LPWUS mode. Based on the measurement results, the terminal device 110 may perform a cell reselection (e.g., from the cell 121 to the cell 131) .

[0061] Conventionally, a terminal device may reselect a best cell in signal strength or quality during a cell reselection. However, for an LPWUS-capable terminal device, it is expected that the terminal device can still monitor an LPWUS during mobility. As there may be cells who cannot support LPWUS, it is not preferred to select the best cell in signal strength or quality that may be not support LPWUS.

[0062] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions of communication so as to make sure that a terminal device can camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible. In these solutions, a terminal device may obtain information of whether a neighboring cell supports an LPWUS mechanism (i.e., check whether one cell supports LPWUS or not in advance) . Based on the information, the terminal device may perform a cell reselection. Detailed description will be given in connection with Embodiments 1 to 5 below.

[0063] EMBODIMENT 1

[0064] This embodiment provides a solution of obtaining information of whether a neighboring cell supports an LPWUS mechanism, i.e., whether the neighboring cell supports an LPWUS monitoring of a terminal device in a first mode (for convenience, may also referred to as whether to support LPWUS herein) . In the first mode, the main radio 142 of the terminal device 110 is turned off and the LPWUS receiver 141 of the terminal device 110 is turned on. In the context of the present disclosure, the first mode may also be referred to as an LPWUS mode or state, a sleep mode or state, or an ultra-deep sleep mode or state. The detailed description will be given in connection with FIG. 2.

[0065] FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram illustrating a process 200 of communication according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIGs. 1A and 1B. The process 200 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. For example, the order of the steps may be changed. Some of the steps may be omitted or any other suitable additional steps may be added.

[0066] As shown in FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may obtain 210 information of whether a neighboring cell supports an LPWUS mechanism. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit 211, to the terminal device 110, information indicating whether a neighboring cell in a set of neighboring cells supports the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit the information via system information (SI) . In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit the information via a dedicated RRC signaling such as an RRC release message. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit the information via a common channel such as an LPWUS control channel. In this way, a network may provide a terminal device with information about which cell is providing an LPWUS configuration.

[0067] In some embodiments, a neighboring cell list for LPWUS may be introduced to carry the information of whether a neighboring cell supports LPWUS. In some embodiments, for each neighboring cell of the set of neighboring cells, the neighboring cell list may comprise an identity of the neighboring cell and an associated indication of whether to support LPWUS.

[0068] For illustration, an example neighboring cell list may be described as below.

[0069] In this example, a field “LPWUS-NeighbourCellList” indicates a neighboring cell list for LPWUS (also referred to as NLC_LPWUS herein) , an information element (IE) “physCellId” indicates an identity of a neighboring cell, and an IE “lpwus” indicates whether the neighboring cell supports LPWUS or not. The field NLC_LPWUS, if present, is used to assist a terminal device performing a cell reselection to let the terminal device camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible. In the neighboring cell list, each entry denotes whether one cell support LPWUS or not. For example, the IE “lpwus” set to true means the corresponding cell is providing an LPWUS configuration, the IE “lpwus” set to false means  the corresponding cell is not providing an LPWUS configuration.

[0070] In some embodiments, the information of whether a neighboring cell supports LPWUS may only comprise a list of neighboring cells supporting LPWUS. In other words, there is no explicit indication (e.g., IE “lpwus” ) for each cell and only the cell who is providing an LPWUS configuration is included in the NLC_LPWUS.

[0071] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine 212, from system information of a selected cell, that the selected cell supports the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In other words, before or when performing a cell reselection, the terminal device 110 may read the system information of a neighbor cell which is selected, to determine whether this neighbor cell is providing an LPWUS configuration or not. This may be dependent on UE implementation.

[0072] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0073] To better support a cell reselection for UE supporting (or is monitoring) LPWUS, the UE may read system information of a neighbor cell before or when performing a cell reselection, to determine whether this cell is providing an LPWUS configuration or not. This prior information can facilitate UE in LPWUS mode (within RRC_IDLE / INACTIVE) to camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible, for power saving reason.

[0074] In this way, a terminal device may check a cell state about LPWUS supporting in advance and it is beneficial to instruct the terminal device to perform a cell reselection.

[0075] EMBODIMENT 2

[0076] This embodiment provides a solution of cell reselection based on a modification to an existing criterion R for cell reselection. For convenience, detailed description will be given still with reference to FIG. 2. It is assumed that the terminal device 110 is in an LPWUS mode (i.e., the first mode) .

[0077] As shown in FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may perform 220 a cell reselection based on a modification to criterion R. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine 221 a set of candidate cells for a cell reselection. For each candidate cell in the set of candidate cells, the terminal device 110 fulfils a condition for camping on the candidate cell. For example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of candidate cells based on an existing criterion S. In other words, each candidate cell in the set of candidate cells fulfills the criterion S. It is to be understood that the criterion S is merely an example, and  any other suitable criteria for camping on the candidate cell may also be feasible.

[0078] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform LP-SS or SSB measurements on candidate cells, and select, from the measured candidate cells, the set of candidate cells fulfilling the criterion S or any other suitable criteria for camping on the candidate cell. The set of candidate cells are ranked in a descending order based on a metric associated with the measurements. In some embodiments, the metric may comprise signal strength such as reference signal received power (RSRP) or received signal strength indication (RSSI) . In some embodiments, the metric may comprise signal quality such as reference signal received quality (RSRQ) . It is to be understood that any other suitable metrics of measurements are also feasible.

[0079] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, for the ranked set of candidate cells, the terminal device 110 may determine 222 a subset of candidate cells from the set of candidate cells. The metric of a candidate cell in the subset of candidate cells is within a range to the metric of a highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells. In some embodiments, the range may be predefined. In some embodiments, the range may be configured by the network device 120. The range may mean an offset to the highest ranked cell (i.e., the best cell) in the set of candidate cells. The range may provide the terminal device 110 with more choice to reselect a cell.

[0080] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, if a candidate cell (for convenience, also referred to as a first candidate cell herein) in the subset of candidate cells supports an LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, the terminal device 110 may perform 223 the cell reselection to the first candidate cell. In other words, the terminal device 110 may select a candidate cell supporting LPWUS from the subset of candidate cells, and perform the cell reselection to the selected candidate cell. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the candidate cell supports LPWUS as described in Embodiment 1. Other details are omitted here for conciseness.

[0081] In some embodiments, the first candidate cell may be a highest ranked cell in the subset of candidate cells that supports the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In other words, the terminal device 110 may select the highest ranked cell supporting LPWUS from the subset of candidate cells, and perform the cell reselection to the selected candidate cell.

[0082] FIG. 3A illustrates a schematic diagram 300A illustrating an example cell reselection according to embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 3A, it is assumed  that cells A to F fulfil the criterion S, and are ranked based on signal strength. It is also assumed that a range to the best cell is 20dBm. Then the cells A to D within 20dBm relative to -50dBm of cell A may be determined. Within a cell set comprising cells A to D, cells C and D support LPWUS. Thus, the terminal device 110 may perform a cell reselection to the cell C or D. In this example, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the highest ranked cell among the cells C and D, i.e., the cell C.

[0083] In some embodiments, if no candidate cells in the subset of candidate cells support the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, the terminal device 110 may select a candidate cell (for convenience, also referred to as a second candidate cell herein) having a highest number of beams that have the metric above a metric threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a first metric threshold herein) , and perform the cell reselection to the selected candidate cell. In some embodiments, if no candidate cells in the subset of candidate cells support the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells (i.e., the best cell in a measured metric (e.g., signal strength or quality) ) . In other words, if there are no candidate cells supporting LPWUS in the subset of candidate cells, the terminal device 110 may reselect a cell based on an existing criterion R.

[0084] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0085] The cell-ranking criterion Rs for serving cell and Rn for neighbouring cells is defined by:

[0086] Rs = Qmeas, s+Qhyst -Qoffsettemp

[0087] Rn = Qmeas, n -Qoffset -Qoffsettemp

[0088] where:

[0089] The UE shall perform ranking of all cells that fulfil the cell selection criterion S.

[0090] The cells shall be ranked according to the R criteria specified above by deriving Qmeas, n and Qmeas, sand calculating the R values using averaged RSRP results.

[0091] If rangeToBestCell_LPWUS is not configured, the UE shall perform cell reselection to the highest ranked cell. If this cell is found to be not-suitable, the UE shall behave as legacy.

[0092] If the UE supports LPWUS and is using (monitoring) LPWUS, if the rangeToBestCell_LPWUS is  configured, then the UE shall perform cell reselection to the highest ranked cell who is supporting LPWUS (or is providing LPWUS configuration) among the cells whose R values is within rangeToBestCell_LPWUS of the R value of the highest ranked cell.

[0093] (opt-1)

[0094] If there is no cell supporting LPWUS (or is providing LPWUS configuration) according to the R criteria specified above, the UE shall perform cell reselection to the cell with the highest number of beams above the threshold (i.e., absThreshSS-BlocksConsolidation) among the cells whose R value is within rangeToBestCell_LPWUS of the R value of the highest ranked cell.

[0095] (opt-2)

[0096] If there is no cell supporting LPWUS (or is providing LPWUS configuration) according to the R criteria specified above, the UE shall perform cell reselection to the highest ranked cell.

[0097] NOTE: the UE may determine whether one cell is supporting LPWUS or not based on NCL-LPWUS, or may read system information from those cells in advance.

[0098] In this example, rangeToBestCell_LPWUS denotes a range to the best cell, and absThreshSS-BlocksConsolidation denotes a threshold for determining a good beam. It is to be understood that this is merely for illustration, and is not intended for limitation.

[0099] In the context of the present disclosure, rangeToBestCell_LPWUS may be set in a similar way as rangeToBestCell defined in a conventional solution. Alternatively, rangeToBestCell_LPWUS may be set separately.

[0100] EMBODIMENT 3

[0101] This embodiment provides a solution of cell reselection based on supplement to existing criteria for cell reselection. For convenience, detailed description will be given still with reference to FIG. 2. It is assumed that the terminal device 110 is in an LPWUS mode (i.e., the first mode) .

[0102] As shown in FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may determine 230 a target cell based on a criterion for a cell reselection. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine 231 the target cell based on a criterion R.

[0103] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine a set of candidate cells for a cell reselection, the set of candidate cells being ranked in a descending order based on a metric.

[0104] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform LP-SS or SSB measurements on candidate cells, and select, from the measured candidate cells, the set of candidate cells fulfilling the criterion S or any other suitable criteria for camping on the candidate cell. The set of candidate cells are ranked in a descending order based on a metric associated with the measurements. In some embodiments, the metric may comprise signal strength such as RSRP or RSSI. In some embodiments, the metric may comprise signal quality such as RSRQ. It is to be understood that any other suitable metrics of measurements are also feasible.

[0105] For the ranked set of candidate cells, the terminal device 110 may determine, as the target cell, a highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells. Alternatively, the terminal device 110 may determine a subset of candidate cells in the set of candidate cells, the metric of a candidate cell in the subset of candidate cells being within a range to the metric of a highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells. The terminal device 110 may determine, in the subset of candidate cells, a candidate cell (for convenience, also referred to as a third candidate cell herein) having a highest number of beams that have the metric above a metric threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a third metric threshold herein) . The terminal device 110 may determine the third candidate cell as the target cell. Thereby, the target cell is determined based on the criterion R.

[0106] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine 232 the target cell based on a higher frequency priority criterion. In some embodiments, if a candidate cell (e.g., the cell 131) has a frequency priority higher than a frequency priority of a serving cell (e.g., the cell 121) and a metric of the candidate cell is above a metric threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a fourth metric threshold herein) during a time interval, the terminal device 110 may determine the candidate cell as the target cell. Thereby, the target cell is determined based on the higher frequency priority criterion.

[0107] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine 233 the target cell based on a lower frequency priority criterion. In some embodiments, if the metric of the serving cell is below a metric threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a fifth metric threshold herein) , and the metric of a candidate cell with a frequency priority lower than a frequency priority of the serving cell is above a metric threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a sixth metric threshold herein) during a time  interval, the terminal device 110 may determine the candidate cell as the target cell. Thereby, the target cell is determined based on the lower frequency priority criterion.

[0108] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, upon determination of the target cell, the terminal device 110 may perform 240 a cell reselection based on whether the target cell supports LPWUS. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the target cell supports LPWUS, e.g., as described in Embodiment 1. Other details are omitted here for conciseness.

[0109] If the target cell supports LPWUS, the terminal device 110 may perform 241 the cell reselection to the target cell. If the target cell does not support LPWUS, the terminal device 110 may determine 242, based on signal strength or quality of a serving cell (e.g., the cell 121) , whether to perform the cell reselection to the target cell.

[0110] In some embodiments, if the target cell does not support LPWUS, and a metric of the serving cell is above a metric threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a second metric threshold herein) , the terminal device 110 may not perform the cell reselection to the target cell. In some embodiments, if the target cell does not support LPWUS, and the metric of the serving cell is below the second metric threshold, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the target cell. In some embodiments, the metric may comprise signal strength such as RSRP or RSSI. In some embodiments, the metric may comprise signal quality such as RSRQ. It is to be understood that any other suitable metrics of measurements are also feasible.

[0111] In some embodiments, the second metric threshold may be set in association with an LPWUS coverage of the serving cell. For example, if the metric of the serving cell is above the second metric threshold, the terminal device 110 is in the LPWUS coverage of the serving cell. If the metric of the serving cell is below the second metric threshold, the terminal device 110 is out of the LPWUS coverage of the serving cell.

[0112] In some embodiments, the second metric threshold may be set in association with the whole coverage of the serving cell. For example, if the metric of the serving cell is above the second metric threshold, the terminal device 110 is in the coverage of the serving cell. If the metric of the serving cell is below the second metric threshold, the terminal device 110 is out of the coverage of the serving cell.

[0113] In some embodiments, if the target cell does not support LPWUS, and a criterion for camping on the serving cell (e.g., the criterion S) is fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may not  perform the cell reselection to the target cell. If the criterion for camping on the serving cell (e.g., the criterion S) is not fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the target cell.

[0114] FIG. 3B illustrates a schematic diagram 300B illustrating another example cell reselection according to embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, cell A is the serving cell, and cell B is determined as the target cell based on criterion R. As shown in a left part of FIG. 3B, the LPWUS coverage is different from the coverage of the serving cell. If a metric of the serving cell is above a metric threshold (denoted as Threshold_coverage_lpwus in this example) , the terminal device 110 is in the LPWUS coverage of the serving cell. If the metric of the serving cell is below Threshold_coverage_lpwus, the terminal device 110 is out of the LPWUS coverage of the serving cell. In this example, cell B does not support LPWUS, and the metric of the serving cell is above Threshold_coverage_lpwus. Thus, the terminal device 110 does not reselect to cell B.

[0115] As shown in a right part of FIG. 3B, the LPWUS coverage is the same as the coverage of the serving cell. In this example, cell B does not support LPWUS, and the serving cell fulfills the criterion S. Thus, the terminal device 110 does not reselect to cell B.

[0116] For illustration, an example procedure for criterion R may be described as below. The cell-ranking criterion Rs for serving cell and Rn for neighbouring cells is defined by: Rs = Qmeas, s+Qhyst -Qoffsettemp Rn = Qmeas, n -Qoffset -Qoffsettemp

[0117] where:

[0118] The UE shall perform ranking of all cells that fulfil the cell selection criterion S.

[0119] The cells shall be ranked according to the R criteria specified above by deriving Qmeas, n and Qmeas, sand calculating the R values using averaged RSRP results.

[0120] If the rangeToBestCell_LPWUS is not configured and the UE supports LPWUS and is using (or is  monitoring) LPWUS, the UE shall perform cell reselection to the highest ranked cell if the following condition is fulfilled:

[0121] - this cell supports LPWUS, or

[0122] - the signal strength of the serving cell is lower than threshold_coverage_lpwus if configured, otherwise (i.e., threshold_coverage_lpwus is not configured) , the signal strength of the serving cell does not fulfil the cell selection criterion S.

[0123] If rangeToBestCel_LPWUS l is not configured, the UE shall perform cell reselection to the highest ranked cell. If this cell is found to be not-suitable, the UE shall behave as legacy.

[0124] If the rangeToBestCell_LPWUS is configured and the UE supports LPWUS and is using (or is monitoring) LPWUS, the UE shall perform cell reselection to the cell with the highest number of beams above the threshold (i.e. absThreshSS-BlocksConsolidation) among the cells whose R value is within rangeToBestCell_LPWUS of the R value of the highest ranked cell if the following condition is fulfilled:

[0125] - this cell supports LPWUS, or

[0126] - the signal strength of the serving cell is lower than threshold_coverage_lpwus if configured, otherwise (i.e., threshold_coverage_lpwus is not configured) , the signal strength of the serving cell does not fulfil the cell selection criterion S.

[0127] If rangeToBestCell_LPWUS is configured, then the UE shall perform cell reselection to the cell with the highest number of beams above the threshold (i.e. absThreshSS-BlocksConsolidation) among the cells whose R value is within rangeToBestCell_LPWUS of the R value of the highest ranked cell. If there are multiple such cells, the UE shall perform cell reselection to the highest ranked cell among them. If this cell is found to be not-suitable, the UE shall behave as legacy.

[0128] In this example, rangeToBestCell_LPWUS denotes a range to the best cell, Threshold_coverage_lpwus denotes a threshold for a serving cell, and absThreshSS-BlocksConsolidation denotes a threshold for determining a good beam. It is to be understood that this is merely for illustration, and is not intended for limitation.

[0129] FIG. 3C illustrates a schematic diagram 300C illustrating still another example cell reselection according to embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, cell A is the serving cell, and cell B is determined as the target cell based on a higher frequency priority criterion. For example, signal quality (denoted as Squal herein) of cell B may be above a quality threshold (denoted as ThreshX, HighQ herein) . In another example, signal strength (denoted as Srxlev herein) of cell B may be above a strength threshold (denoted as ThreshX, HighP herein) . In this example, Srxlev>ThreshX, HighP.

[0130] As shown in a left part of FIG. 3C, the LPWUS coverage is different from the coverage of the serving cell.

[0131] As shown in a right part of FIG. 3C, the LPWUS coverage is the same as the coverage of the serving cell. In this example, cell B does not support LPWUS, and the serving cell fulfills the criterion S. Thus, the terminal device 110 does not reselect to cell B.

[0132] For illustration, an example procedure for a higher frequency priority criterion may be described as below.

[0133] For LPWUS capable UE, if threshServingLowQ is broadcast in system information and more than 1 second has elapsed since the UE camped on the current serving cell, cell reselection to a cell on a higher priority NR frequency or inter-RAT frequency than the serving frequency shall be performed if:

[0134] - A cell of a higher priority NR or EUTRAN RAT / frequency fulfils Squal > ThreshX, HighQ during a time interval TreselectionRAT; and

[0135] - this cell supports LPWUS, or

[0136] - the signal strength (Squal) of the serving cell is lower than threshold_coverage_lpwus_Q if configured, otherwise (i.e., threshold_coverage_lpwus_Q is not configured) , the signal strength of the serving cell does not fulfil the cell selection criterion S.

[0137] Otherwise, cell reselection to a cell on a higher priority NR frequency or inter-RAT frequency than the serving frequency shall be performed if:

[0138] - A cell of a higher priority RAT / frequency fulfils Srxlev > ThreshX, HighP during a time interval TreselectionRAT; and

[0139] - More than 1 second has elapsed since the UE camped on the current serving cell; and

[0140] - this cell supports LPWUS, or

[0141] - the signal strength (Srxlev) of the serving cell is lower than threshold_coverage_lpwus if configured, otherwise (i.e., threshold_coverage_lpwus is not configured) , the signal strength of the serving cell does not fulfil the cell selection criterion S.

[0142] In this example, threshServingLowQ denotes an indication of enabling an RSRQ measurement, threshold_coverage_lpwus_Q denotes a quality threshold for a serving cell, and threshold_coverage_lpwus denotes a strength threshold for a serving cell. It is to be understood that this is merely for illustration, and is not intended for limitation.

[0143] For illustration, an example procedure for a lower frequency priority criterion may be described as below.

[0144] For LPWUS capable UE, if threshServingLowQ is broadcast in system information and more than 1 second has elapsed since the UE camped on the current serving cell, cell reselection to a cell on a lower priority NR frequency or inter-RAT frequency than the serving frequency shall be performed if:

[0145] (condition-1)

[0146] - The serving cell fulfils Squal < ThreshServing, LowQ and a cell of a lower priority NR or E-UTRAN RAT /  frequency fulfils Squal > ThreshX, LowQ during a time interval TreselectionRAT; and

[0147] - this cell supports LPWUS, or

[0148] - the signal strength (Squal) of the serving cell is lower than threshold_coverage_lpwus_Q if configured, otherwise (i.e., threshold_coverage_lpwus_Q is not configured) , the signal strength of the serving cell does not fulfil the cell selection criterion S.

[0149] (condition-2)

[0150] - the serving cell fulfils Squal < threshold_coverage_lpwus_Q (or does not fulfil criterion S) and a cell of a lower priority RAT / frequency fulfils Srxlev > ThreshX, LowQ during a time interval TreselectionRAT;

[0151] Otherwise, cell reselection to a cell on a lower priority NR frequency or inter-RAT frequency than the serving frequency shall be performed if:

[0152] (condition-1)

[0153] - The serving cell fulfils Srxlev < ThreshServing, LowP and a cell of a lower priority RAT / frequency fulfils Srxlev > ThreshX, LowP during a time interval TreselectionRAT; and

[0154] - More than 1 second has elapsed since the UE camped on the current serving cell; and

[0155] - this cell supports LPWUS, or

[0156] - the signal strength (Srxlev) of the serving cell is lower than threshold_coverage_lpwus_P if configured, otherwise (i.e., threshold_coverage_lpwus_P is not configured) , the signal strength of the serving cell does not fulfil the cell selection criterion S.

[0157] (condition-2)

[0158] - The serving cell fulfils Srxlev < threshold_coverage_lpwus_P (or does not fulfil criterion S) and a cell of a lower priority RAT / frequency fulfils Srxlev > ThreshX, LowP during a time interval TreselectionRAT; and

[0159] - More than 1 second has elapsed since the UE camped on the current serving cell.

[0160] In this example, threshServingLowQ denotes an indication of enabling an RSRQ measurement, ThresholdServing, LowQ denotes a quality threshold for a serving cell for a lower frequency priority criterion, ThresholdServing, LowP denotes a strength threshold for a serving cell for a lower frequency priority criterion, threshold_coverage_lpwus_Q denotes a quality threshold for a serving cell for cell reselection, and threshold_coverage_lpwus_P denotes a strength threshold for a serving cell for cell reselection. It is to be understood that this is merely for illustration, and is not intended for limitation.

[0161] In this way, as long as signal strength or quality of a serving cell supporting LPWUS is good enough, a terminal device should not reselect to a cell which cannot support LPWUS. This makes the terminal device camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible, and  power saving may be achieved.

[0162] EMBODIMENT 4

[0163] This embodiment provides a solution of cell reselection from a source cell to an LPWUS-capable cell. For convenience, detailed description will be given still with reference to FIG. 2. It is assumed that the source cell does not support LPWUS, and the terminal device 110 is in a second mode. In the second mode, the main radio 142 of the terminal device 110 is turned on and the LPWUS receiver 141 of the terminal device 110 is turned off. In some embodiments, the second mode may be an idle or inactive state.

[0164] As shown in FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may perform 250 a cell reselection to a cell supporting LPWUS. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 in the second mode may determine 251 a candidate cell that supports an LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the candidate cell supports LPWUS, e.g., as described in Embodiment 1. Other details are not repeated here for conciseness.

[0165] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may determine 252 whether a metric of the candidate cell is above a metric threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a seventh metric threshold herein) during a time interval. In some embodiments, the metric may comprise signal strength such as RSRP or RSSI. In some embodiments, the metric may comprise signal quality such as RSRQ. It is to be understood that any other suitable metrics of measurements are also feasible.

[0166] As shown in FIG. 2, if the metric of the candidate cell is above the seventh metric threshold, the terminal device 110 may perform 253 a cell reselection to the candidate cell.

[0167] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0168] For LPWUS capable UE but not using LPWUS in the current serving cell, if threshServingLowQ is broadcast in system information and more than 1 second has elapsed since the UE camped on the current serving cell, cell reselection to a cell which supports LPWUS (or is providing LPWUS configuration) shall be performed if:

[0169] - this cell fulfils Squal > ThreshX, HighQ during a time interval TreselectionRAT

[0170] Otherwise, cell reselection to a cell which supports LPWUS (or is providing LPWUS configuration) shall be performed if:

[0171] - this cell Srxlev > ThreshX, HighP during a time interval TreselectionRAT; and

[0172] - More than 1 second has elapsed since the UE camped on the current serving cell.

[0173] In this example, threshServingLowQ denotes an indication of enabling an RSRQ  measurement, Squal denotes signal quality of a cell supporting LPWUS, ThresholdX, HighQ denotes a quality threshold for the cell, Srxlev denotes signal strength of a cell supporting LPWUS, ThresholdX, HighP denotes a strength threshold for the cell, and TreselectionRAT denotes a time interval. It is to be understood that this is merely for illustration, and is not intended for limitation.

[0174] In this way, an LPWUS-capable terminal device may camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible, and power saving may be achieved.

[0175] EMBODIMENT 5

[0176] This embodiment provides a solution of a cell reselection considering cell bar information. For convenience, detailed description will be given still with reference to FIG. 2. It is assumed that the terminal device 110 is to perform a cell reselection to a selected cell. The selected cell may be determined by the cell reselection as described in any of Embodiments 2, 3 and 4.

[0177] As shown in FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may perform 260 a cell reselection based on cell bar information. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit 261, to the terminal device 110, an indication indicating whether the selected cell is barred for an LPWUS-capable terminal device. In some embodiments, the indication may be transmitted via system information. In some embodiments, the indication may be transmitted via a dedicated RRC signaling such as an RRC release message.

[0178] For illustration, an example configuration of the indication may be described as below.

[0179] In this example, an IE “cellBarredLPWUS” indicates whether the selected cell is barred or not barred for an LPWUS-capable terminal device.

[0180] In some embodiments, if the indication indicates the selected cell is not barred for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform 262 the cell reselection to the selected cell. If the indication indicates the selected cell is barred for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may not perform the cell reselection to the selected cell.

[0181] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit 263, to the terminal device 110, a further indication indicating whether the cell reselection to an intra-frequency  cell corresponding to the candidate cell is allowed for the LPWUS-capable terminal device.

[0182] In this example, an IE “intraFreReselectionLPWUS” indicates whether the cell reselection to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the selected cell is allowed or not allowed for an LPWUS-capable terminal device. This IE controls cell selection or reselection to intra-frequency cells corresponding to a cell for LPWUS UEs when the cell is barred.

[0183] In some embodiments, if the selected cell is barred for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform 264 the cell reselection based on the further indication. For example, if the further indication indicates that the cell reselection to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the selected cell is allowed for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may reselect to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the selected cell even if the selected cell is barred. If the further indication indicates that the cell reselection to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the selected cell is not allowed for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may not consider an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the selected cell upon a cell reselection.

[0184] In some embodiments, if the terminal device 120 does not receive the further indication, the terminal device 120 may consider the selected cell as barred. In some embodiments, if the terminal device 120 does not receive the further indication, the terminal device 120 may perform the cell reselection based on a determination that the cell reselection to the intra-frequency cell is allowed. That is, the terminal device 120 may reselect to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the selected cell.

[0185] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0186] 1> if the UE is a LPWUS supporting UE and it is in RRC_IDLE or in RRC_INACTIVE:

[0187] 2> if intraFreqReselectionLPWUS is not present in SIB  / dedicated RRC signalging:

[0188] 3> consider the cell as barred;

[0189] 3> perform barring as if intraFreqReselectionLPWUS is set to allowed;

[0190] 2> else:

[0191] 3> if the cellBarredLPWUS is present in the acquired SIB  / dedicated RRC signalging and is set to barred:

[0192] 4> consider the cell as barred;

[0193] 4> perform barring based on intraFreqReselectionLPWUS.

[0194] In this example, intraFreqReslectionLPWUS indicates whether a cell reselection to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to a selected cell is allowed or not allowed for an LPWUS-capable terminal device. “cellBarredLPWUS” indicates whether a selected cell is barred or not barred for an LPWUS-capable terminal device.

[0195] It is to be understood that the above example procedures are merely for illustration and are not intended for limitation. It is also to be understood that operations in the process 200 and Embodiments 1-5 may be carried out separately or in any suitable combination.

[0196] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF METHODS

[0197] Corresponding to the above processes, embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods of communication implemented at a terminal device and at a network device. These methods will be described below with reference to FIGs. 4 to 6.

[0198] FIG. 4 illustrates an example method 400 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 400 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1A. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 400 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. It is to be understood that the method 400 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0199] At block 410, the terminal device 110 determines, in a first mode, a set of candidate cells for a cell reselection, the set of candidate cells being ranked in a descending order based on a metric.

[0200] At block 420, the terminal device 110 determines a subset of candidate cells from the set of candidate cells, the metric of a candidate cell in the subset of candidate cells being within a range to the metric of a highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells.

[0201] At block 430, the terminal device 110 determines that a first candidate cell in the subset of candidate cells supports an LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In some embodiments, the first candidate cell is a highest ranked cell in the subset of candidate cells that supports the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode.

[0202] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, information indicating whether a neighboring cell in a set of neighboring cells supports the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In some embodiments, the information  comprises a list of neighboring cells supporting the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine, from system information of the first candidate cell, that the first candidate cell supports the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode.

[0203] At block 440, the terminal device 110 performs the cell reselection to the first candidate cell. In some embodiments, if no candidate cells in the subset of candidate cells support the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to a second candidate cell in the subset of candidate cells, the second candidate cell having a highest number of beams that have the metric above a first metric threshold. In some embodiments, if no candidate cells in the subset of candidate cells support the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells.

[0204] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, a first indication indicating whether the first candidate cell is barred for an LPWUS-capable terminal device. If the first indication indicates the first candidate cell is not barred for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the first candidate cell.

[0205] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, a second indication indicating whether the cell reselection to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the first candidate cell is allowed for the LPWUS-capable terminal device. If the first indication indicates the first candidate cell is barred for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection based on the second indication.

[0206] In some embodiments, if the terminal device 110 does not receive a second indication indicating whether the cell reselection to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the first candidate cell is allowed for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform an operation comprising at least one of the following: considering the first candidate cell as barred; or performing the cell reselection based on a determination that the cell reselection to the intra-frequency cell is allowed.

[0207] With the method 400, a cell reselection rule may be defined for an LPWUS-capable terminal device, and an LPWUS-capable terminal device may camp on an LPWUS-capable cell as much as possible.

[0208] FIG. 5 illustrates another example method 500 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 500 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1A. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. It is to be understood that the method 500 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0209] At block 510, the terminal device 110 determines, in a first mode, a target cell based on a criterion for a cell reselection.

[0210] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine a set of candidate cells for a cell reselection, the set of candidate cells being ranked in a descending order based on a metric. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine, as the target cell, a highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine, as the target cell, a third candidate cell in a subset of candidate cells in the set of candidate cells, the metric of a candidate cell in the subset of candidate cells being within a range to the metric of a highest ranked cell in the set of candidate cells, the third candidate cell having a highest number of beams that have the metric above a third metric threshold.

[0211] In some embodiments, if a candidate cell has a frequency priority higher than a frequency priority of a serving cell and a metric of the candidate cell is above a fourth metric threshold during a time interval, the terminal device 110 may determine the candidate cell as the target cell.

[0212] In some embodiments, if a metric of a serving cell is below a fifth metric threshold and the metric of a candidate cell with a frequency priority lower than a frequency priority of the serving cell is above a sixth metric threshold during a time interval, the terminal device 110 may determine the candidate cell as the target cell.

[0213] At block 520, the terminal device 110 determines that the target cell supports an LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, information indicating whether a neighboring cell in a set of neighboring cells supports the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In some embodiments, the information comprises a list of neighboring cells supporting the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may  determine, from system information of the first candidate cell, that the first candidate cell supports the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode.

[0214] At block 530, the terminal device 110 performs the cell reselection to the target cell.

[0215] In some embodiments, if the target cell does not support the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, and the metric of the serving cell is below the second metric threshold, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the target cell. In some embodiments, if the target cell does not support the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, and a metric of a serving cell is above a second metric threshold, the terminal device 110 may not perform the cell reselection to the target cell.

[0216] In some embodiments, if the criterion for camping on the serving cell is unfulfilled, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the target cell. In some embodiments, if the target cell does not support the LPWUS monitoring in the first mode, and a criterion for camping on the serving cell is fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may not perform the cell reselection to the target cell.

[0217] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, a third indication indicating whether the target cell is barred for an LPWUS-capable terminal device. If the third indication indicates the target cell is not barred for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the target cell.

[0218] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device, a fourth indication indicating whether the cell reselection to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the target cell is allowed for the LPWUS-capable terminal device. If the third indication indicates the target cell is barred for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection based on the fourth indication.

[0219] In some embodiments, if the terminal device 110 does not receive a fourth indication indicating whether the cell reselection to an intra-frequency cell corresponding to the target cell is allowed for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform an operation comprising at least one of the following: considering the target cell as barred; or performing the cell reselection based on a determination that the cell reselection to the intra-frequency cell is allowed.

[0220] With the method 500, a cell reselection rule may also be defined for an LPWUS-capable terminal device, and an LPWUS-capable terminal device may camp on an LPWUS- capable cell as much as possible.

[0221] FIG. 6 illustrates still another example method 600 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 600 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1A. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 600 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. It is to be understood that the method 600 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0222] At block 610, the terminal device 110 determines, in a second mode, a candidate cell that supports an LPWUS monitoring in a first mode.

[0223] At block 620, the terminal device 110 determines that a metric of the candidate cell is above a seventh metric threshold during a time interval.

[0224] At block 630, the terminal device 110 performs a cell reselection to the candidate cell.

[0225] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, a fifth indication indicating whether the candidate cell is barred for an LPWUS-capable terminal device. If the fifth indication indicates the candidate cell is not barred for the LPWUS-capable terminal device, the terminal device 110 may perform the cell reselection to the candidate cell.
