AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing uplink (UL) transmission techniques in random access procedures face challenges in efficiently handling fallback between different repetition numbers of preamble transmissions, leading to potential communication failures.

Method used

A terminal device is configured to start a counter for preamble repetition transmission during a random access procedure. Based on predetermined conditions, the counter value is incremented, and when it reaches a threshold, the device transitions from a lower to a higher number of preamble repetitions, allowing for fallback and improving communication reliability.

Benefits of technology

This solution enables consecutive-shots fallback between different numbers of preamble repetition transmissions, enhancing the reliability of UL communication by allowing multiple attempts with higher repetition numbers when initial attempts fail.

Description

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR COMMUNICATIONFIELDSExample embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communication techniques and in particular, to devices and methods for uplink (UL) transmission.BACKGROUNDUL repetition transmissions have been used in the random access (RA) procedure to guarantee communication reliability. By way of example, in a 4-step RA procedure, UE may repeatedly transmit the preamble for a certain number of times, which is also called preamble repetitions, and all the preamble repetitions are treated as a single feature. The UE may then monitor a random access response in a RAR window. In some cases where a threshold number (e.g., a maximum number) of the preamble transmissions is reached while the reception of RAR fails and / or the contention resolution fails, it is expected to reattempt the RACH with a higher number of preamble repetitions. Thus, there is a need for improving UL transmission in terms of fallback between different repetition numbers.SUMMARYIn general, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for UL transmission.In a first aspect, there is provided a terminal device comprising: a processor configured to cause the terminal device to: during a random access procedure, transmit, to a network device, an random access preamble corresponding to a first number of preamble repetitions, a counter for preamble repetition transmission being started at an initiation of the random access procedure, and a value of the counter being incremented based on at least one predetermined condition; determine whether the value of the counter reaches a threshold value; and based at least in part on a determination that the value of the counter reaches the threshold value, transmit the random access preamble corresponding to a second number of preamble repetitions, the second number being higher than the first number.In a second aspect, there is provided a terminal device comprising: a processor configured to cause the terminal device to: after transmitting a first data transmission with a first waveform to the network device, determine second power headroom information for a second data transmission assumed to be transmitted with a second waveform, the first waveform being different from the second waveform; and transmit, to the network device, a power headroom report (PHR) comprising the second power headroom information for waveform switching decision.In a third aspect, there is provided a communication method performed by a terminal device. The method comprises: during a random access procedure, transmitting, at a terminal device and to a network device, an random access preamble corresponding to a first number of preamble repetitions, a counter for preamble repetition transmission being started at an initiation of the random access procedure, and a value of the counter being incremented based on at least one predetermined condition; determining whether the value of the counter reaches a threshold value; and based at least in part on a determination that the value of the counter reaches the threshold value, transmitting the random access preamble corresponding to a second number of preamble repetitions, the second number being higher than the first number.In a fourth aspect, there is provided a communication method performed by a terminal device. The method comprises: after transmitting a first data transmission with a first waveform to the network device, determining, at a terminal device, second power headroom information for a second data transmission assumed to be transmitted with a second waveform, the first waveform being different from the second waveform; and transmitting, to the network device, a power headroom report (PHR) comprising the second power headroom information for waveform switching decision.In a fifth aspect, there is provided a computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon, the instructions, when executed on at least one processor, causing the at least one processor to carry out the method according to the third, or fourth aspect.Other features of the present disclosure will become easily comprehensible through the following description.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGSThrough the more detailed description of some example embodiments of the present disclosure in the accompanying drawings, the above and other objects, features and advantages of the present disclosure will become more apparent, wherein:FIG. 1 illustrates an example communication environment in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented;FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example random access procedure;FIG. 3 illustrates a signaling flow of fallback between different numbers of preamble repetitions in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure;FIG. 4 illustrates a signaling flow of PHR reporting process in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure;FIG. 5 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example format of single entry PHR according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure;FIGs. 6A and 6B illustrate schematic diagrams of example formats of multiple entry PHR according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure;FIG. 7 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example format of enhanced single entry PHR according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure;FIG. 8 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example format of enhanced single entry PHR for multiple transmission and receipt point (TRP) according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure;FIG. 9 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example format of enhanced multiple entry PHR for multiple TRP according to some example embodiments of the present disc ed with the terminal device 110 operating as a UE and the network device 120 operating as a base station. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device.In some example embodiments, if the terminal device 110 is a terminal device and the network device 120 is a network device, a link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the network device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the terminal device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.In the existing PRACH procedure, PREAMBLE_TRANSMISSION_COUNTER and PREAMBLE_POWER_RAMPING_COUNTER will not be reset upon fallback from lower number of preamble repetitions to higher number of preamble repetitions. This results in only one-short fallback being supported. However, in some cases, it may be expected to perform the fallback more than one times, for example, fallback from 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep2 to 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep4 then to 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep8.To solve the above and other potential issues, the present disclosure proposes a solution for Msg1 repetition transmission. In this solution, a counter for preamble repetition transmission (i.e., PREAMBLE_TRANSMISSION_COUNTER_MSG1REP) is introduced for controlling the fallback between different numbers of preamble repetition transmissions. Moreover, at least one predetermined condition is defined for incrementing the counter for preamble repetition transmission. Once a value of the counter for preamble repetition transmission reaches a threshold value, the fallback from the current number of preamble repetitions to a higher number of preamble repetitions will be triggered and the counter will be reset. In this way, consecutive-shots fallback can be supported.Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.Reference is made to FIG. 3, which illustrates a signaling flow of fallback between different numbers of preamble repetitions in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 300 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.The process 300 may be at least a part of a RA procedure. The terminal device 110 may be configured with multiple RA types, i.e., multiple preamble repetition numbers, such as, 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep2, 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep4, 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep8 and so on.In addition, the terminal device 110 is configured with a counter for preamble repetition transmission. To this end, the network device 120 may configure the terminal device 110 with a configuration of the counter for preamble repetition transmission, which includes but not limited to, a threshold value of the counter, at least one condition for triggering an incrementation of the counter, etc.In initiating the RA procure, the terminal device 110 may start (305) the counter for preamble repetition transmission from 0. During the RA procedure, the terminal device 110 transmits (310) the RA preamble corresponding to a first number of preamble repetitions to the network device 120. By way of example, the first number of preamble repetitions may be 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep2.After transmitting the first number of preamble repetitions, the terminal device 110 may determine (315) whether to increment the counter for preamble repetition transmission based on the at least one predetermined condition.The at least one predetermined condition may include but not limited to:● an expiration of a RAR window, and in this case, no RAR is successfully received,● a failure of contention resolution as indicated in Msg4,● a mismatch between a contention resolution identity of the terminal device and a common control channel (CCCH) service data unit (SDU) in Msg3 scheduled by the network device 120, or● a value of a power ramping counter being incremented.In some example embodiments, the predetermined condition may be the expiration of a RAR window or the failure of contention resolution. In other words, the value of the counter is incremented by 1 when the RAR window expires, or contention solution fails. An example decryption for such a counter for preamble repetition transmission in relevant standards, such as, TS 38.321 is given as below:In some example embodiments, the predetermined condition may be the expiration of the RAR window or a mismatch between the contention resolution identity in the MAC CE and the CCCH SDU transmitted in Msg3. In other words, the value of the counter is incremented by 1 when the RAR window expires or the preamble index in the MAC CE of Msg1 does not match with RAPID in Msg3. An example description for such a counter for preamble repetition transmission in relevant standards, such as, TS 38.321 is given as below:In some example embodiments, the predetermined condition may be the value of a power ramping counter being incremented. In other words, the value of the counter is incremented by 1 when the PREAMBLE_POWER_RAMPING_COUNTER is incremented. An example description for such a counter for preamble repetition transmission in relevant standards, such as, TS 38.321 is given as below:The terminal device 110 determines (320) whether the value of the counter reaches the threshold value. For example, the threshold value may be a maximum value of the counter.If the the value of the counter reaches the threshold value, then a fallback from the first number of preamble repetitions to a second number of the preamble repetitions is triggered, where the second number is higher than the first number. In this case, the terminal device 110 transmits (325) the RA preamble corresponding to the second number of preamble repetitions. By way of example, when a fallback from 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep2 to 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep4 is triggered, the terminal device 110 may attempt to perform PRACH with 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep4. Moreover, the counter is reset to 0.In some example embodiments, the second number of preamble repetitions may be selected from a list of candidate preamble repetition numbers configured by the network device 120.Otherwise, if the value of the counter does not reach the threshold value, then the terminal device 110 may continue to perform PRACH with the first number of preamble repetitions.In some example embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive the RAR comprising an UL grant for Msg3. If a size of the RAR exceeds a threshold size and a time domain resource allocation (TDRA) for Msg3 in the UL grant indicates that a time between the RAR reception and Msg3 transmission is smaller than a threshold time, the terminal device 110 may determine that the reception of the RAR is unsuccessful. The terminal device 110 may retransmit the RA preamble while keep the value of the counter unchanged. For example, if the scheduling of RAR PDSCH is larger than the maximum number of unicast positioning reference signal (PRBs) that the terminal device 110 can process per slot and if the TDRA for Msg3 in UL grant in RAR indicates that the time between RAR reception and Msg3 transmission is smaller than (NT, 1 + NT, 2 + 0.5 + X) ms, the reception of RAR is considered as unsuccessful, and PRACH retransmission is triggered. For this case, the counter should not be incremented.Additionally, or alternatively, in some example embodiments, the fallback from 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep4 to 4-stepRA_Msg1Rep8 may be triggered based on an analogous process in case of the predetermined condition being met, until reaching the highest repetition number configured for one RACH partition.In some example embodiments, if the value of the counter reaches the threshold value and the current number of preamble repetitions reaches a threshold number (e.g., the highest repetition number) , that is, the RA type is set the current maximum repetition number, the terminal device 110 may reset the value of the counter to 0, and keep the current number of preamble repetition unchanged. In this case, no fallback will be performed. Additionally, in some cases, the current number of preamble repetition may keep unchanged until the PREAMBLE_TRANSMISSION_COUNTER reaches preambleTransMax +1.Alternatively, in some example embodiments, if the value of the counter reaches the threshold value and the current number of preamble repetitions reaches a threshold number (e.g., the highest repetition number within one RACH partition) , the terminal device 110 may stay in the current repetition number and transmit the RA preamble corresponding to the current number of preamble repetitions. In other words, if the highest repetition number within one RACH partition is used, there is no need to judge whether the value of the counter reaches the threshold value. In this case, the counter may or may not be incremented.Alternatively, in some example embodiments, if the value of the counter reaches the threshold value and the current number of preamble repetitions reaches a threshold number, the terminal device 110 may terminate the RA procedure. Additionally, in this case, a RA problem may be reported to the upper layer of the terminal device 110. For example, an indication of a failure of the RA procedure may be reported to the RRC layer.As separate threshold may be configured for normal uplink (NUL) and supplementary uplink (SUL) , in some example embodiments, separate thresholds for different repetition numbers may be configured for SUL or NUL. In the existing communication system, a SSB RSRP threshold may be configured for each RACH partition. Considering different repetition numbers can be used for different coverage areas, thresholds used for SSB selection should vary from different repetition numbers, and thus different SSB RSRP thresholds should be configured. In some example embodiments, separate SSB RSRP thresholds for different repetition numbers are defined. An example threshold definition is given as below:Accordingly, in the example of FIG. 3, the first number of preamble repetitions may be associated with a first SSB threshold, the second number of preamble repetitions may be associated with a second SSB threshold, and the first SSB threshold is different from the second SSB threshold.In the existing communication system, multiple waveforms, such as Discrete Fourier Transform-Spread-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DFT-S-OFTM) , Cyclic Prefix Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (CP-OFTM) are used for data transmissions between UE and gNB. In some cases, the network may switch between different waveforms for better network performances, or conditions. In making waveform switching decision, the gNB may consider power headroom information for data transmissions reported by the UE.To enable a dynamic switching between multiple waveforms, in addition to the power headroom information for an actual transmission by using the waveform on actual PUSCH (which may be also called current waveform hereinafter) , it is expected the UE to report power headroom information for assumed transmissions by using a target waveform different from the current waveform, which may be also called a waveform on assumed PUSCH hereinafter. Thus, enhancements and details on PHR are required.According to the example embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution for power headroom reporting. In this solution, various PHR formats are defined for providing additional information on the assumed PUSCH or the associated waveform. Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGs. 4 to 9.FIG. 4 illustrates a signaling flow of PHR reporting process 400 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 400 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.Multiple waveforms are supported for UL transmissions. In the following descriptions of the embodiments, DFT-S-OFTM and CP-OFTM are given as examples of waveforms. However, they are mentioned for illustrative purpose without limiting to the present disclosure. The example embodiments may be implemented by using any other waveforms.In the process 400, the terminal device 110 transmits (405) a first data transmission with a first waveform to the network device 120. For example, the first waveform may be one of the DFT-S-OFTM and CP-OFTM.In some example embodiments, the terminal device 110 determines first power headroom information for the first data transmission transmitted with the first waveform. The first power headroom information may comprise a maximum transmission power with the first waveform, for example, PCMAX, f, c (i) .The terminal device 110 determines (410) second power headroom information for a second data transmission assumed to be transmitted with a second waveform. The first waveform is different from the second waveform. For example, the second waveform may be the other one of the DFT-S-OFTM and CP-OFTM. In other words, the second data transmission is assumed to be transmitted with the second waveform. Thus, the second power headroom information relates to an assumed PUSCH with the second waveform.The terminal device 110 then transmit (415) the PHR comprising the second power headroom information to the network device 120 for waveform switching decision. In some example embodiments, the second power headroom information may be reported together with the legacy PHR, e.g., type 1 PHR. Alternatively, in some other embodiments, the second power headroom information may be reported separately from the legacy PHR.The network device 120 may then determine (420) whether to switch the waveform based at least in part on the second power headroom information.In some example embodiments, the second power headroom information may comprise at least a maximum transmission power with the second waveform, for example, PCMAX, f, c of the assumed PUSCH.According to the example embodiments, various PHR formats are proposed for carrying PCMAX, f, c of the assumed PUSCH, such as, a single entry PHR media access control (MAC) control element (CE) , a multiple entry PHR MAC CE, an enhanced single entry PHR MAC CE, an enhanced multiple entry PHR MAC CE, an enhanced single entry PHR for multiple transmission and reception point (TRP) MAC CE, or an enhanced multiple entry PHR for multiple TRP MAC CE which will be discussed in details in connection with FIGs. 5 to 9.In some example embodiments, the second power headroom information may be carried via the single entry PHR MAC CE. An example of single entry PHR MAC CE 500 is shown in FIG. 5. The single entry PHR MAC CE 500 may have a fixed size and consist of three octets. An octet for carrying the PCMAX, f, c of the assumed PUSCH may be added to a legacy single entry PHR MAC CE.As shown in FIG. 5, R fields are reserved bits, and may be set to 0. The PCMAX, f, c field 502 indicates PCMAX, f, c (e.g., as specified in TS 38.213 [6] ) of the actual PUSCH, which is used for calculation of the preceding Power Headroom (PH) field 504.For the MPE or R field 506, if mpe-Reporting-FR2 is configured, and the serving cell 122 operates on FR2, and if the P field is set to 1, the field 506 indicates the applied power backoff to meet MPE requirements, for example, as specified in TS 38.101-2

[0015] . The length of the field 506 may be 2 bits. If mpe-Reporting-FR2 is not configured, or if the serving cell 122 operates on FR1, or if the P field is set to 0, R bits are present instead.The single entry PHR MAC CE 500 further comprises a PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH field 508. If dynamic waveform switching is enabled, this field may indicate PCMAX, f, c of the assumed PUSCH with waveform which is not used in the current UL transmission. For example, if actual PUSCH transmission is with DFT-S-OFDM waveform, this field 508 may indicate PCMAX, f, c of an assumed PUSCH with CP-OFDM waveform.In some example embodiments, the second power headroom information may be carried via the multiple entry PHR MAC CE. Examples of multiple entry PHR MAC CE are shown in FIGs. 6A-6B.As shown in FIG. 6A, in the multiple entry PHR MAC CE 600, the R fields are reserved bit, and may be set to 0. The Ci field 601 indicates the presence of a PH field for the serving cell 122 with ServCellIndex i, for example, as specified in TS 38.331 [5] . In case where the Ci field 601 is set to a first value (e.g., 1) , it may indicate that the PH field for the serving cell 122 with ServCellIndex i is reported. In case where the Ci field 601 is set to a second value (e.g., 0) , it may indicate that the PH field for the serving cell 122 with ServCellIndex i is not reported.The V fields 602, 604, 606 and 608 indicate if the PH value is based on a real transmission or a reference format. For Type 1 PH, the V field may be set to a second value (e.g., 0) and indicate the real transmission on PUSCH, and the V field may be set to a first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that a PUSCH reference format is used. For Type 2 PH, the V field may be set to a second value (e.g., 0) and indicate real transmission on PUCCH, and the V field may be set to the first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that a PUCCH reference format is used. For Type 3 PH, the V field may be set to the second value (e.g., 0) and indicate the real transmission on SRS, and the V field may be set to the first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that an SRS reference format is used. Furthermore, for Type 1 PH, Type 2 PH, and Type 3 PH, the V field that is set to the second value (e.g., 0) may indicate the presence of the octet containing an associated PCMAX, f, c field and the MPE field, while the V field that is set to the first value (e.g., 1) may indicate that the octet containing the associated PCMAX, f, c field and the MPE field is omitted. Besides, in some example embodimetns, only when the V field of type 1 PH is set to 0, the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH may be present.For the PCMAX, f, c fields 603, 605, 607 and 609, if present, these fields indicate the PCMAX, f, c (e.g., as specified in TS 38.213 [6] ) for the NR serving cell and the PCMAX, c or  (e.g., as specified in TS 36.213

) for the E-UTRA serving cell used for calculation of the respective preceding PH fields.For the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH fields 615, 617 and 619, if dynamic waveform switching is enabled, these fields indicate PCMAX, f, c of the assumed PUSCH with waveform which is not used in the current UL transmission. For example, if actual PUSCH transmission is with DFT-S-OFDM waveform, then these fields indicate the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH with CP-OFDM waveform.FIG. 6B illustrates a multiple entry PHR MAC CE 610 with more ServCellIndex i, and field definitions are similar to those described in FIG. 6A.In some example embodiments, the second power headroom information may be carried via an enhanced single entry PHR MAC CE. An example of enhanced single entry PHR MAC CE 700 is shown in FIG. 7. The enhanced Single Entry PHR MAC CE may be identified by a MAC subheader with eLCID.The enhanced Single Entry PHR MAC CE may have a variable size. As shown in FIG. 7, the R fields are reserved bit, and may be set to 0.The PH field 702 indicates the power headroom level. The length of the PH field 702 may be 6 bits.The PCMAX, f, c field 704 indicates the PCMAX, f, c (e.g., as specified in TS 38.213 [6] ) used for calculation of the preceding PH field 702.For the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH field 706, if dynamic waveform switching is enabled, this field indicates PCMAX, f, c of the assumed PUSCH with waveform which is not used in the current UL transmission. For example, if the actual PUSCH transmission is with DFT-S-OFDM waveform, then this field may indicate the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH with CP-OFDM waveform.In some example embodiments, the second power headroom information may be carried via an enhanced single entry PHR for multiple TRP MAC CE. An example of enhanced single entry PHR for multiple TRP MAC CE 800 is shown in FIG. 8. The enhanced single entry PHR for multiple TRP MAC CE 800 may have a fixed size, and consist of four octets.As shown in FIG. 8, The R fields are reserved bit, and may be set to 0. The PH i field 802 indicates the power headroom level, where PH 1 is associated with the SRS-ResourceSet with a lower srs-ResourceSetId and PH 2 is associated with the SRS-ResourceSet with a higher srs-ResourceSetId. For example, the PH fields 802 for the serving cell 122 are included in ascending order based on i. The length of each PH field may be 6 bits.The V field indicates if the PH value for the corresponding TRP is based on a real transmission or a reference format. For Type 1 PH, the V field may be set to the second value (e.g., 0) and indicate the real transmission on PUSCH, and the V field set may be set to the first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that a PUSCH reference format is used.The PCMAX, f, c field 804 indicates the PCMAX, f, c (e.g., as specified in TS 38.213 [6] ) used for calculation of the preceding PH field 802.For the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH field 806, if dynamic waveform switching is enabled, this field indicates PCMAX, f, c of the assumed PUSCH with waveform which is not used in the current UL transmission. For example, if the actual PUSCH transmission is with DFT-S-OFDM waveform, this field may indicate the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH with CP-OFDM waveform.In some example embodiments, the second power headroom information may be carried via an enhanced multiple entry PHR for multiple TRP MAC CE. An example of enhanced multiple entry PHR for multiple TRP MAC CE 900 is shown in FIG. 9.As shown in FIG. 9, The R fields are reserved bit, and may be set to 0. The Ci field 901 indicates the presence of PH field (s) for the serving cell with ServCellIndex i, for example, as specified in TS 38.331 [5] . The Ci field 901 may be set to the first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that PH field (s) for the serving cell with ServCellIndex i is reported. The Ci field may be set to the second value (e.g., 0) and indicate that the PH field for the serving cell with ServCellIndex i is not reported.For the V fields 902, if the PH value is based on the real transmission or a reference format. For Type 1 PH, the V field may be set to the second value (e.g., 0) and indicate real transmission on PUSCH and the V field may be set to the first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that a PUSCH reference format is used. For Type 2 PH, the V field may be set to the second value (e.g., 0) and indicate the real transmission on PUCCH, and the V field may be set to the first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that a PUCCH reference format is used. For Type 3 PH, the V field may be set to the second value (e.g., 0) and indicate the real transmission on SRS, and the V field may be set to the first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that an SRS reference format is used. Furthermore, for Type 1 PH, Type 2 PH, and Type 3 PH, the V field may be set to the second value (e.g., 0) and indicate the presence of the octet containing the associated PCMAX, f, c field and the MPE field, and all of the V field (s) for the serving cell may be set to the first value (e.g., 1) and indicate that the octet containing the associated PCMAX, f, c field and the MPE field is omitted. Besides, in some cases, only when at least the V field of type 1 PH is set to 0, PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH may be present.For the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH field 913, if the dynamic waveform switching is enabled, this field may indicate PCMAX, f, c of the assumed PUSCH with waveform which is not used in the current UL transmission. For example, if the actual PUSCH transmission is with DFT-S-OFDM waveform, this field may indicate the PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH with CP-OFDM waveform.As described above, in a case of a multiple entry PHR, the PHR may comprise an indication indicating whether the PHR comprises the second power headroom information for the second data transmission assumed to be transmitted on the second waveform, for example, the V field. A first value of the indication may indicate a presence of the second power headroom information, and a second different value of the indication may indicate an absence of the second power headroom information.In some example embodiments, the transmission of the power headroom information of the assumed PUSCH may be based on at least one triggering condition. In this case, the terminal device 110 may determine whether at least one triggering condition is met based on a measurement result of reference signals from the network device 120. If the at least one triggering condition is met, the terminal device 110 may trigger the transmission of the PHR comprising the second power headroom information. In this way, for the cases that additional power headroom information on the assumed PUSCH is not needed, the reporting of the PCMAX of the assumed PUSCH can be reduced.In some example embodiments, the at least one triggering condition may be associated with measurements based on A3 events. By way of example, the at least one triggering condition comprises: (i) A3-1 event indicating an entering condition of the terminal device 110 moving from a center of the serving cell 122 to an edge of the serving cell 122, and (ii) A3-2 event indicating a leaving condition of the terminal device moving from the edge of the serving cell 122 to the center of the serving cell 122.In a case where an entering condition, i.e., A3-1 is met, an entering condition indication may be indicated to the MAC layer of the terminal device 110. In a case where a leaving condition, i.e., A3-2 is met, a leaving condition indication may be indicated to the MAC layer of the terminal device 110.In some example embodiments, one of the above two condition indications may be used as the triggering condition of PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH. If the condition indication is received, PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH may be reported together with a legacy PHR (e.g., type 1 PHR) . For example, the terminal device 110 may determine that one of the entering condition or the leaving condition is met. The the terminal device 110 may transmit the second power headroom information together with first power headroom information for the first data transmission transmitted with the first waveform together in the PHR.Alternatively, in some example embodiments, both of the above two condition indications may be used as the triggering conditions of PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH, and once one of them is received, PCMAX, f, c of assumed PUSCH may be reported, either as a new PHR separate from the legacy PHR, or together with the legacy PHR. For example, the terminal device 110 may determine that one of the entering condition or the leaving condition is met. The terminal device 110 may transmit the second power headroom information together with first power headroom information for the first data transmission transmitted with the first waveform together in the PHR. Or alternatively, the terminal device 110 may transmit the PHR comprising the second power headroom information separately from a PHR comprising the first power headroom information.FIG. 10 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 1000 implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 1000 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1.At block 1010, during a random access procedure, the terminal device 110 transmits, to a network device, an random access preamble corresponding to a first number of preamble repetitions. A counter for preamble repetition transmission is started at an initiation of the random access procedure, and a value of the counter is incremented based on at least one predetermined condition.At block 1020, the terminal device 110 determines whether the value of the counter reaches a threshold value.At block 1030, based at least in part on a determination that the value of the counter reaches the threshold value, the terminal device 110 transmits the random access preamble corresponding to a second nu
