Description

[0001] A WIPER FOR A HELMET VISOR, A VISOR AND A HELMET WITH SAID WIPER

[0002] Field of the invention

[0003] The present invention belongs to the field of helmets, more precisely to the field of devices for wiping visors of helmets during its use. The invention relates to a wiper for a helmet visor, a visor and a helmet with said wiper.

[0004] Background of the invention and the technical problem

[0005] Helmets with visors are mandatory equipment for motorcyclists, moped riders, drivers of quads, tricycles, snowmobiles, go-karts, and other means of transportation. They can also be used by police, bomb disposal experts, or workers cleaning with high- pressure or steam cleaners. In case of rain, snow, or during work with liquids, water droplets or liquids on the visor impair vision of the surroundings, which reduces the overview of the situation and, above all, the safety of the user.

[0006] Several different wipers are known, wherein said wipers are attached to the visor in different ways. For example, they can be attached to the top of the visor, to the bottom of the visor or to the sides so that the wiper moves up and down over almost the entire visor, as described in document GB2390969. Since many of them imitate car wipers, they do not provide good wiping of the visor, as it is significantly more curved and smaller than a car windshield or a rear window.

[0007] The technical problem, which is addressed by the present invention, is constructional design of a wiper for a helmet visor that will reliably and effectively wipe drops from the visor, while also ensuring easy wiper assembly and disassembly. An additional technical problem is related to electricity consumption and rapid draining of the battery; therefore, a further aim of the invention is to optimize the energy efficiency of the wiper. Prior art

[0008] Several different types of windshield wipers or wiper blades are known, which usually comprise two larger units:

[0009] - a wiper frame, and

[0010] - a rubber band mounted in or on the frame, the rubber band being in contact with the visor for wiping away liquid droplets.

[0011] In all known windshield wipers, the rubber band is inserted along its entire length into elongated guides mounted on the wiper frame, which are usually made of metal.

[0012] Known solutions usually have a one-piece frame. Such solutions are described, for example, in documents GB2524844, WO2014016632, W02004012543, US8209783, CA2660918, US2008184464 and GB2239782 and differ from the present invention.

[0013] However, some wipers comprise a frame made from several parts.

[0014] Patent application DE2645262 relates to a protective helmet for motorcyclists or skiers, which has a visor made of transparent material, wherein the visor is designed to rotate around pins. An electric motor is mounted in a protrusion of the helmet, the shaft of which drives an arm that supports a wiper blade for cleaning the central part of the visor. This solution allows the blade to move horizontally or vertically, which differs from the present invention.

[0015] Patent application GB2501290 discloses a wiper for use on a visor of a safety helmet, said wiper comprising a wiper assembly that can be flexibly pressed against the visor surface via a spring, which is different from the present invention.

[0016] Patent application GB2285390 describes a removable wiper for a motorcycle helmet visor, said wiper having a housing attached to the visor with a clip, and wherein the wiper comprises a blade, a motor and a switch. The wiper may be powered by a battery or the motorcycle's electrical system. This solution differs from the present invention. Description of the solution to the technical problem

[0017] The present invention solves the disadvantages of known solutions and represents an upgrade of existing manners of installation of wipers on wiper helmets. The solution of the technical problem is defined in the independent claims, wherein the preferred embodiments are defined in dependent claims.

[0018] The wiper according to the invention comprises a housing and an attachment assembly configured for installation to the helmet or the visor. A blade is mounted on the housing via an arm, said blade comprising a frame and a wiping element. Movement of the blade is enabled with an electric motor driven by a battery installed in the housing.

[0019] The blade of the wiper has a two-part frame with an intermediate joint, wherein it comprises a first arc on which an attachment element for connection with the arm is provided, and a second arc comprising two elements connected in the middle with a fulcrum, which also functions as a joint for connection with the first arc. The fulcrum may be achieved with a bolt and a nut or with any other suitable element or combination of elements that allow rotation of said frame parts. As the position of the first arc and the second arc are adjustable, the blade can adapt to different contours and shapes of the visor.

[0020] The wiping element is attached to the frame of the blade in any manner described below. According to a first preferred embodiment, the frame is on both ends of the second arc and on the far end of the first arc, which is distanced from the joint, provided with guides, into which the holder of the wiping part can be inserted, wherein said holder is shaped to fit into said guides. According to a second preferred embodiment, the frame is on both ends of the second arc and the far end of the first arc, which is distanced from the joint, provided with a snap hole that corresponds with protrusions, preferably pins, mounted on or in the holder of the wiping element or the wiping part. Said protrusions may be a part of the holder, separate elements that are glued, vulcanised, or otherwise connected to the holder. Said protrusions may be made of metallic or non-metallic materials, including plastic. Based on the position of the blade on the visor, the protrusions may minimally move in snap holes, which additionally adjusts the position of the wiping element during movement along the visor. It is desired that in this embodiment the wiping part is made from a higher or harder material than in the first embodiment.

[0021] The wiping element may comprise an approximately rectangular holder, the shape of which can be further adjusted based on the selected attachment means, and a rubber wiper attached to said holder. The holder is essentially a thin plate or a wider rectangular solid. The holder may be absent and then the whole wiping element is essentially designed as the wiping part having a carrying part onto or into which pins or similar elements are installed. The pins or similar elements can then be inserted into snap holes in the wiper frame. The transverse cross-section of bottom section of the wiping part (i.e., below the holder or the carrying part) is preferably triangular, wherein the narrow top is arranged to contact the visor. The wiping element as described above in combination with the wiper frame enables a thinner construction, 100% fit and easier replacement of used wiping elements.

[0022] The construction as described above enables easier replacement of the wiping element, wherein the frame does not have to be replaced. In case the frame is damaged or worn, it can be replaced, while leaving the arm and the housing in place. This leads to simpler part replacement, which saves time, money and at the same time represents an ecological solution with minimal replacement parts. The wiper blade as described above can along its entire length adapt to the surface of the visor, which ensures 100% fit and consequently efficient wiping of liquid droplets.

[0023] The frame of the wiper may be made from any suitable material, preferably from plastic. The most suitable method for manufacturing the frame is plastic injection moulding.

[0024] The holder of the wiping element may be made from any suitable material, preferably from plastic material, from composite having spring properties, or from spring steel, which is arranged to hold the wiping element in extended position. The wiping part is attached to the holder in any suitable manner, preferably by gluing or vulcanisation. The dimensions may be adjusted based on the frame and the manner of attachment of the wiping part to the frame, as well as to the size of the helmet or the visor, respectively.

[0025] The material for the wiping part may be any known rubber known to the skilled person based on natural or synthetic rubber, silicone, or any other elastomeric material, such as thermoplastic elastomers, thermoplastic polyurethane, or polyurethane, or combinations of said materials. During the development of the invention, it was determined that a wiping part made of silicone, the surface of which is additionally treated, reduces friction between the wiping part and the visor and consequently extends the operation of the wiper battery. Said additional surface treatment processes can be selected from the group consisting of fluorination, application of a parylene layer, application of a Slick Sil layer, the Quniton process and treatment with plasma.

[0026] The wiper according to the present invention can be installed on the visor with any suitable system, assembly, or process. Preferably, the wiper is installed with two shape-engaging (also called form-fitting) elements, preferably with guide and rail, wherein these shape-engaging elements are significantly upgraded with a lock, which prevents disengagement of the wiper from a rail installed on a surface, such as a visor or a helmet. Said rail, guide and lock form an assembly for mounting the wiper onto a helmet or a visor, respectively. Instead of rail and guide any other suitable shape-engaging two-part form can be used, wherein one part is mounted on the wiper and the second part on the visor. For easier description of the invention, the continuation of the text will be based on the embodiment using rail and guide, however, this does not limit the possibility of using other mutually engaging shapes.

[0027] The invention according to a possible embodiment provides a housing for the wiper, on which a guide is installed or formed as a part of the housing, preferably in the bottom part of the housing, wherein said guide has a shape that corresponds with (i.e. fits into) a rail provided on a visor, preferably near an upper or a bottom edge of the visor. The guide has a hole along its entire length, said hole arranged to receive a pin, which is designed as a rod with at least one wider part, preferably two wider parts, most preferably three wider parts, wherein the essential configuration comprises at least one wider part on one end of the rod and one wider part in a middle part or these two wider parts are designed as a single, longer wider part, which can be received in a groove provided in the rail, and wherein upon pressure on one end of the pin at least one wider part is moved from the groove, thus unlocking the lock. Movement from the groove can occur after rotation of the pin and removal of the wider part from the groove. In a preferred embodiment with three wider parts, two wider parts are provided on both ends of the rod, while the third wider part is in the middle part. Between the middle wider part and one of the remaining wider parts a spring is provided, which enables pressure on one of both ends of the pin. The rail is provided with two grooves located on the side in contact with the pin, said grooves functioning as a seat for two of the wider parts of the pin, which fixes the rail and the guide and prevents their mutual movement even in case of vibrations or shaking, high speed or similar effects. Upon applying pressure to the pin from one end and the spring compresses (contracts), the wider parts move from said two grooves and the guide can be removed from the rail. In the same manner, the guide is installed in the rail.

[0028] The guide and the rail are preferably made from plastic, preferably using injection moulding, wherein the pin and the spring are made from metal.

[0029] The guide may be a separate part and is attached to the wiper housing, while the guide and the housing are made as one piece. It can be injection moulded together with the housing or the guide is attached to the housing later.

[0030] The rail is preferably mounted so that they are at most 3 cm from the upper or the bottom edge of the visor, which depends on the side and the type of the helmet or the visor. The rail may be mounted on the visor in any suitable manner or they can be formed as a part of the visor. Some of the possible embodiments are the following: - the rail is attached to the visor with screws, wherein the visor has to be provided with drilled holes,

[0031] - the rail is fixedly attached to the visor with ultrasonic welding, high-frequency welding or gluing, or

[0032] - the rail is a part of the visor and is injection-moulded in the same process as injection moulding of the visor plastic.

[0033] The wiper according to the invention as described above can be installed on any visor or any helmet with a visor.

[0034] The invention successfully solves all technical problems and enables reliable and efficient wiping of the visor, easier installation and removal of the wiper, easier and more economical wiper maintenance as well as prolonged battery operation.

[0035] The wiper for a helmet visor, the visor and the helmet with the wiper according to the present invention will be described in further detail based on exemplary embodiments and figures, which show:
