Abstract

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications described support user equipment (UE) preference reporting of future cell partitioning. A UE may receive, such as from a network entity, a first control message indicating multiple candidate cells for beam measurement. The UE may transmit one or more request messages requesting that a first quantity of the multiple candidate cells be included in a first cell subset and a second quantity of the multiple candidate cells be included in a second cell subset. The request message may indicate a first requested measurement gap frequency for the first cell subset and a second requested measurement gap frequency for the second cell subset. The UE may receive a second control message indicating a measurement gap configuration that identifies a first measurement gap frequency for the first cell subset and a second measurement gap frequency for the second cell subset based on the request messages.

Description

USER EQUIPMENT PREFERENCE REPORTING ON FUTURE CELL PARTITIONING

[0001] FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY

[0002] The following relates to wireless communications, including user equipment preference reporting on future cell partitioning.BACKGROUND

[0003] Wireless communications systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, and so on. These systems may be capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing the available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power) . Examples of such multiple-access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems, and fifth generation (5G) systems which may be referred to as New Radio (NR) systems. These systems may employ technologies such as code division multiple access (CDMA) , time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA) , or discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) . A wireless multiple-access communications system may include one or more base stations, each supporting wireless communication for communication devices, which may be known as user equipment (UE) .

[0004] UEs may transfer communications from one network entity to another in a process called handover. Handover may be triggered by transmissions from the network entity. The transmissions may be part of higher layer communications.SUMMARY

[0005] The described techniques relate to improved methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses that support user equipment (UE) preference reporting on future cell partitioning. For example, the described techniques provide for a UE receiving, such as from a network entity, a first control message indicating multiple candidate cells for beam measurement. The UE may transmit one or more request messages requesting that  a first quantity of the candidate cells be included in a first cell subset and a second quantity of the candidate cells be included in a second cell subset. The request message may indicate requested measurement gap frequencies, such as a first requested measurement gap frequency for the first cell subset and a second requested measurement gap frequency for the second cell subset. In some examples, the request may be based on a threshold indicated in the first control message. For example, the threshold could indicate parameters for cell partitioning, such as a quantity of cells, subcarrier spacing, previous measurements, or another metric.

[0006] The UE may receive a second control message indicating a measurement gap configuration that identifies a first measurement gap frequency for the first cell subset and a second measurement gap frequency for the second cell subset based on the request messages. The UE may perform one or more beam measurements of one or more reference signal transmissions according to the first measurement gap frequency, the second measurement gap frequency, or both, and indicate a measurement report including the beam measurements.

[0007] In some examples, the second control message may indicate that the first measurement gap frequency has no measurement gaps for the first cell subset. The UE may then predict one or more beam metrics associated with the first cell subset, and transmit the predicted beam metrics as part of the measurement report. In some examples, the second control message may indicate additional cells that were not included as part of the UE request message, and indicate if the cells are associated with the first measurement gap frequency, or the second measurement gap frequency.

[0050] FIGs. 13 through 16 show flowcharts illustrating methods that support UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0051] User equipments (UEs) and networks (e.g., network entity, gNB, etc. ) may communicate wirelessly. In lower-layer triggered mobility (LTM) applications, the UE may monitor for and receive data from a serving base station at varying intervals, and measure transmissions of other neighboring base stations during measurement gaps in data reception. Increasing how often the measurement gaps occur also increases the accuracy of the UE measurements, but reduces the data transmission and throughput of the network to the UE. A method for how frequently measurement gaps occur for LTM for different sets of cells may be advantageous to balance how often the UE performs cells measurements relative to throughput of data transmission to the UE.

[0052] Techniques described herein provide for UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning for indicating how often a UE desires to measure a respective cell of a set of candidate cells. For example, the UE may report a preference, or transmit a request, indicating which one or more cells are to be in a first subset and which cells are to be in a second subset. The first subset of cells (e.g., Set A cells) may be cells that the UE prefers to measure less often, or to instead generated a measurement prediction for instead of performing cell measurement. The second subset of cells (e.g., Set B cells) may be cells that the UE prefers to measure more often than the first subset of cells, where the UE reports measurements of reference signal transmissions by the second subset of cells.

[0053] The UE may select which cells to include in which subset based on information received from the network entity, such as conditions or parameters. The network entity may receive the preference, or request, for which cells to include in which subset, and transmit control signaling to the UE indicating which zero or more cells are in the first subset (e.g., Set A cells) , which zero or more cells are in the second subset (e.g., Set B cells) , and associated measurement gap configurations. In some examples, the Set A cells may have fewer to no measurement gaps as compared to Set B cells, and a UE may perform measurements of the Set A cells or may generate predicted measurements for the Set A cells based on applying artificial intelligence (AI) , machine learning (ML) , or both to one or more measurements of transmissions from one or more of the Bet B cells. The cell partitioning indicated by the network entity may be the same as requested by the UE or may change in which subset one or more cells are included.  In some examples, the network entity may indicate additional cells are part of the Set A cells or the Set B cells. The UE may perform (e.g., make) measurements of the Set A cells, the Set B cells, or both, in respective measurement gaps and transmit a report indicating one or more measurements, one or more predictions, or both, according to the configuration from the network entity.

[0054] Aspects of the disclosure are initially described in the context of wireless communications systems. Aspects of the disclosure are further illustrated by and described with reference to a measurement gap diagram, a process flow diagram, apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flowcharts that relate to UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning.

[0055] FIG. 1 shows an example of a wireless communications system 100 that supports UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more network entities 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communications system 100 may be a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, a New Radio (NR) network, or a network operating in accordance with other systems and radio technologies, including future systems and radio technologies not explicitly mentioned herein.

[0056] The network entities 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communications system 100 and may include devices in different forms or having different capabilities. In various examples, a network entity 105 may be referred to as a network element, a mobility element, a radio access network (RAN) node, or network equipment, among other nomenclature. In some examples, network entities 105 and UEs 115 may wirelessly communicate via one or more communication links 125 (e.g., a radio frequency (RF) access link) . For example, a network entity 105 may support a coverage area 110 (e.g., a geographic coverage area) over which the UEs 115 and the network entity 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which a network entity 105 and a UE 115 may support the communication of signals according to one or more radio access technologies (RATs) .

[0057] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout a coverage area 110 of the wireless communications system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary, or mobile, or both at different times. The UEs 115 may be devices in different forms or having different capabilities. Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. 1. The UEs 115 described herein may be capable of supporting communications with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115 or network entities 105, as shown in FIG. 1.

[0058] As described herein, a node of the wireless communications system 100, which may be referred to as a network node, or a wireless node, may be a network entity 105 (e.g., any network entity described herein) , a UE 115 (e.g., any UE described herein) , a network controller, an apparatus, a device, a computing system, one or more components, or another suitable processing entity configured to perform any of the techniques described herein. For example, a node may be a UE 115. As another example, a node may be a network entity 105. As another example, a first node may be configured to communicate with a second node or a third node. In one aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a UE 115. In another aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a network entity 105. In yet other aspects of this example, the first, second, and third nodes may be different relative to these examples. Similarly, reference to a UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, or the like may include disclosure of the UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, or the like being a node. For example, disclosure that a UE 115 is configured to receive information from a network entity 105 also discloses that a first node is configured to receive information from a second node.

[0059] In some examples, network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130, or with one another, or both. For example, network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul communication links 120 (e.g., in accordance with an S1, N2, N3, or other interface protocol) . In some examples, network entities 105 may communicate with one another via a backhaul communication link 120 (e.g., in accordance with an X2, Xn, or other interface protocol) either directly (e.g., directly between network entities 105) or indirectly (e.g., via a core network 130) . In some examples, network entities 105 may communicate  with one another via a midhaul communication link 162 (e.g., in accordance with a midhaul interface protocol) or a fronthaul communication link 168 (e.g., in accordance with a fronthaul interface protocol) , or any combination thereof. The backhaul communication links 120, midhaul communication links 162, or fronthaul communication links 168 may be or include one or more wired links (e.g., an electrical link, an optical fiber link) , one or more wireless links (e.g., a radio link, a wireless optical link) , among other examples or various combinations thereof. A UE 115 may communicate with the core network 130 via a communication link 155.

[0060] One or more of the network entities 105 described herein may include or may be referred to as a base station 140 (e.g., a base transceiver station, a radio base station, an NR base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB or a giga-NodeB (either of which may be referred to as a gNB) , a 5G NB, a next-generation eNB (ng-eNB) , a Home NodeB, a Home eNodeB, or other suitable terminology) . In some examples, a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may be implemented in an aggregated (e.g., monolithic, standalone) base station architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single network entity 105 (e.g., a single RAN node, such as a base station 140) .

[0061] In some examples, a network entity 105 may be implemented in a disaggregated architecture (e.g., a disaggregated base station architecture, a disaggregated RAN architecture) , which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 105, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 105 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) 160, a distributed unit (DU) 165, a radio unit (RU) 170, a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) 175 (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) 180 system, or any combination thereof. An RU 170 may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 105 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more  components of the network entities 105 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some examples, one or more network entities 105 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0062] The split of functionality between a CU 160, a DU 165, and an RU 170 is flexible and may support different functionalities depending on which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, RF functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU 160, a DU 165, or an RU 170. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU 160 and a DU 165 such that the CU 160 may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU 165 may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some examples, the CU 160 may host upper protocol layer (e.g., layer 3 (L3) , layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU 160 may be connected to one or more DUs 165 or RUs 170, and the one or more DUs 165 or RUs 170 may host lower protocol layers, such as layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160. Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU 165 and an RU 170 such that the DU 165 may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU 170 may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU 165 may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs 170) . In some cases, a functional split between a CU 160 and a DU 165, or between a DU 165 and an RU 170 may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU 160, a DU 165, or an RU 170, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU 160, the DU 165, or the RU 170) . A CU 160 may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU 160 may be connected to one or more DUs 165 via a midhaul communication link 162 (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU 165 may be connected to one or more RUs 170 via a fronthaul communication link 168 (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some examples, a midhaul communication link 162 or a fronthaul communication link 168 may be  implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 105 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0063] In wireless communications systems (e.g., wireless communications system 100) , infrastructure and spectral resources for radio access may support wireless backhaul link capabilities to supplement wired backhaul connections, providing an IAB network architecture (e.g., to a core network 130) . In some cases, in an IAB network, one or more network entities 105 (e.g., IAB nodes 104) may be partially controlled by each other. One or more IAB nodes 104 may be referred to as a donor entity or an IAB donor. One or more DUs 165 or one or more RUs 170 may be partially controlled by one or more CUs 160 associated with a donor network entity 105 (e.g., a donor base station 140) . The one or more donor network entities 105 (e.g., IAB donors) may be in communication with one or more additional network entities 105 (e.g., IAB nodes 104) via supported access and backhaul links (e.g., backhaul communication links 120) . IAB nodes 104 may include an IAB mobile termination (IAB-MT) controlled (e.g., scheduled) by DUs 165 of a coupled IAB donor. An IAB-MT may include an independent set of antennas for relay of communications with UEs 115, or may share the same antennas (e.g., of an RU 170) of an IAB node 104 used for access via the DU 165 of the IAB node 104 (e.g., referred to as virtual IAB-MT (vIAB-MT) ) . In some examples, the IAB nodes 104 may include DUs 165 that support communication links with additional entities (e.g., IAB nodes 104, UEs 115) within the relay chain or configuration of the access network (e.g., downstream) . In such cases, one or more components of the disaggregated RAN architecture (e.g., one or more IAB nodes 104 or components of IAB nodes 104) may be configured to operate according to the techniques described herein.

[0064] In the case of the techniques described herein applied in the context of a disaggregated RAN architecture, one or more components of the disaggregated RAN architecture may be configured to support UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning as described herein. For example, some operations described as being performed by a UE 115 or a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may additionally, or alternatively, be performed by one or more components of the  disaggregated RAN architecture (e.g., IAB nodes 104, DUs 165, CUs 160, RUs 170, RIC 175, SMO 180) .

[0065] A UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology, where the “device” may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. A UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, a UE 115 may include or be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communications (MTC) device, among other examples, which may be implemented in various objects such as appliances, or vehicles, meters, among other examples.

[0066] The UEs 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115 that may sometimes act as relays as well as the network entities 105 and the network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, or relay base stations, among other examples, as shown in FIG. 1.

[0067] The UEs 115 and the network entities 105 may wirelessly communicate with one another via one or more communication links 125 (e.g., an access link) using resources associated with one or more carriers. The term “carrier” may refer to a set of RF spectrum resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting the communication links 125. For example, a carrier used for a communication link 125 may include a portion of a RF spectrum band (e.g., a bandwidth part (BWP) ) that is operated according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR) . Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information) , control signaling that coordinates operation for the carrier, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communications system 100 may support communication with a UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. A UE 115 may be configured with multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers according to a carrier aggregation configuration. Carrier aggregation may be used with both frequency division duplexing (FDD) and time division duplexing (TDD)  component carriers. Communication between a network entity 105 and other devices may refer to communication between the devices and any portion (e.g., entity, sub-entity) of a network entity 105. For example, the terms “transmitting, ” “receiving, ” or “communicating, ” when referring to a network entity 105, may refer to any portion of a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, a CU 160, a DU 165, a RU 170) of a RAN communicating with another device (e.g., directly or via one or more other network entities 105) .

[0068] Signal waveforms transmitted via a carrier may be made up of multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM) ) . In a system employing MCM techniques, a resource element may refer to resources of one symbol period (e.g., a duration of one modulation symbol) and one subcarrier, in which case the symbol period and subcarrier spacing may be inversely related. The quantity of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both) , such that a relatively higher quantity of resource elements (e.g., in a transmission duration) and a relatively higher order of a modulation scheme may correspond to a relatively higher rate of communication. A wireless communications resource may refer to a combination of an RF spectrum resource, a time resource, and a spatial resource (e.g., a spatial layer, a beam) , and the use of multiple spatial resources may increase the data rate or data integrity for communications with a UE 115.

[0069] The time intervals for the network entities 105 or the UEs 115 may be expressed in multiples of a basic time unit which may, for example, refer to a sampling period of Ts=1 /  (Δfmax·Nf) seconds, for which Δfmax may represent a supported subcarrier spacing, and Nf may represent a supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size. Time intervals of a communications resource may be organized according to radio frames each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms) ) . Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023) .

[0070] Each frame may include multiple consecutively-numbered subframes or slots, and each subframe or slot may have the same duration. In some examples, a frame  may be divided (e.g., in the time domain) into subframes, and each subframe may be further divided into a quantity of slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable quantity of slots, and the quantity of slots may depend on subcarrier spacing. Each slot may include a quantity of symbol periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix prepended to each symbol period) . In some examples of the wireless communications system 100, a slot may further be divided into multiple mini-slots associated with one or more symbols. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each symbol period may be associated with one or more (e.g., Nf) sampling periods. The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or frequency band of operation.

[0071] A subframe, a slot, a mini-slot, or a symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communications system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI) . In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., a quantity of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally, or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communications system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in bursts of shortened TTIs (sTTIs) ) .

[0072] Physical channels may be multiplexed for communication using a carrier according to various techniques. A physical control channel and a physical data channel may be multiplexed for signaling via a downlink carrier, for example, using one or more of time division multiplexing (TDM) techniques, frequency division multiplexing (FDM) techniques, or hybrid TDM-FDM techniques. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET) ) for a physical control channel may be defined by a set of symbol periods and may extend across the system bandwidth or a subset of the system bandwidth of the carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of the UEs 115. For example, one or more of the UEs 115 may monitor or search control regions for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or multiple control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. An aggregation level for a control channel candidate may refer to an amount of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs) ) associated with encoded information for a control information format having a given payload size. Search space sets may include common search space sets configured for sending control information  to multiple UEs 115 and UE-specific search space sets for sending control information to a specific UE 115.

[0073] A network entity 105 may provide communication coverage via one or more cells, for example a macro cell, a small cell, a hot spot, or other types of cells, or any combination thereof. The term “cell” may refer to a logical communication entity used for communication with a network entity 105 (e.g., using a carrier) and may be associated with an identifier for distinguishing neighboring cells (e.g., a physical cell identifier (PCID) , a virtual cell identifier (VCID) , or others) . In some examples, a cell also may refer to a coverage area 110 or a portion of a coverage area 110 (e.g., a sector) over which the logical communication entity operates. Such cells may range from smaller areas (e.g., a structure, a subset of structure) to larger areas depending on various factors such as the capabilities of the network entity 105. For example, a cell may be or include a building, a subset of a building, or exterior spaces between or overlapping with coverage areas 110, among other examples.

[0074] A macro cell generally covers a relatively large geographic area (e.g., several kilometers in radius) and may allow unrestricted access by the UEs 115 with service subscriptions with the network provider supporting the macro cell. A small cell may be associated with a lower-powered network entity 105 (e.g., a lower-powered base station 140) , as compared with a macro cell, and a small cell may operate using the same or different (e.g., licensed, unlicensed) frequency bands as macro cells. Small cells may provide unrestricted access to the UEs 115 with service subscriptions with the network provider or may provide restricted access to the UEs 115 having an association with the small cell (e.g., the UEs 115 in a closed subscriber group (CSG) , the UEs 115 associated with users in a home or office) . A network entity 105 may support one or multiple cells and may also support communications via the one or more cells using one or multiple component carriers.

[0075] In some examples, a carrier may support multiple cells, and different cells may be configured according to different protocol types (e.g., MTC, narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) , enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) ) that may provide access for different types of devices.

[0076] In some examples, a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, an RU 170) may be movable and therefore provide communication coverage for a moving coverage area 110. In some examples, different coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same network entity 105. In some other examples, the overlapping coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different network entities 105. The wireless communications system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of the network entities 105 provide coverage for various coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.

[0077] The wireless communications system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable communications or low-latency communications, or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communications system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC) . The UEs 115 may be designed to support ultra-reliable, low-latency, or critical functions. Ultra-reliable communications may include private communication or group communication and may be supported by one or more services such as push-to-talk, video, or data. Support for ultra-reliable, low-latency functions may include prioritization of services, and such services may be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low-latency, and ultra-reliable low-latency may be used interchangeably herein.

[0078] In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured to support communicating directly with other UEs 115 via a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., in accordance with a peer-to-peer (P2P) , D2D, or sidelink protocol) . In some examples, one or more UEs 115 of a group that are performing D2D communications may be within the coverage area 110 of a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, an RU 170) , which may support aspects of such D2D communications being configured by (e.g., scheduled by) the network entity 105. In some examples, one or more UEs 115 of such a group may be outside the coverage area 110 of a network entity 105 or may be otherwise unable to or not configured to receive transmissions from a network entity 105. In some examples, groups of the UEs 115 communicating via D2D communications may support a one-to-many (1: M) system in which each UE 115  transmits to each of the other UEs 115 in the group. In some examples, a network entity 105 may facilitate the scheduling of resources for D2D communications. In some other examples, D2D communications may be carried out between the UEs 115 without an involvement of a network entity 105.

[0079] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or 5G core (5GC) , which may include at least one control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management function (AMF) ) and at least one user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management for the UEs 115 served by the network entities 105 (e.g., base stations 140) associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be transferred through the user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation as well as other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to IP services 150 for one or more network operators. The IP services 150 may include access to the Internet, Intranet (s) , an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) , or a Packet-Switched Streaming Service.

[0080] The wireless communications system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands, which may be in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz) . Generally, the region from 300 MHz to 3 GHz is known as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelengths range from approximately one decimeter to one meter in length. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features, which may be referred to as clusters, but the waves may penetrate structures sufficiently for a macro cell to provide service to the UEs 115 located indoors. Communications using UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) compared to communications using the smaller frequencies and longer waves of the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portion of the spectrum below 300 MHz.

[0081] The wireless communications system 100 may utilize both licensed and unlicensed RF spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communications system 100 may employ License Assisted Access (LAA) , LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology using an unlicensed band such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. While operating using unlicensed RF spectrum bands, devices such as the network entities 105 and the UEs 115 may employ carrier sensing for collision detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations using unlicensed bands may be based on a carrier aggregation configuration in conjunction with component carriers operating using a licensed band (e.g., LAA) . Operations using unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, among other examples.

[0082] A network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, an RU 170) or a UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which may be used to employ techniques such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of a network entity 105 or a UE 115 may be located within one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels, which may support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly, such as an antenna tower. In some examples, antennas or antenna arrays associated with a network entity 105 may be located at diverse geographic locations. A network entity 105 may include an antenna array with a set of rows and columns of antenna ports that the network entity 105 may use to support beamforming of communications with a UE 115. Likewise, a UE 115 may include one or more antenna arrays that may support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally, or alternatively, an antenna panel may support RF beamforming for a signal transmitted via an antenna port.

[0083] Beamforming, which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception, is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a network entity 105, a UE 115) to shape or steer an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining the signals communicated via antenna elements of an antenna array such that some signals propagating along particular orientations with respect to an  antenna array experience constructive interference while others experience destructive interference. The adjustment of signals communicated via the antenna elements may include a transmitting device or a receiving device applying amplitude offsets, phase offsets, or both to signals carried via the antenna elements associated with the device. The adjustments associated with each of the antenna elements may be defined by a beamforming weight set associated with a particular orientation (e.g., with respect to the antenna array of the transmitting device or receiving device, or with respect to some other orientation) .

[0084] Techniques described herein provide for the UE 115 to report preference on future cell partitioning to the network entity 105. The UE 115 may receive an indication of a set of candidate cells and additional information, such parameters, conditions or thresholds, from the network entity 105 for cell partitioning. The UE 115 may partition, or divide, the cells into subsets based on information from the network entity 105, previous measurements of the UE 115, or both. For example, the UE 115 may indicating a preference to assign one or more cells of the set of candidate cells to a first subset of cells (e.g., Set A Cells) and one or more cells of the set of candidate cells to a second subset of cells (e.g., Set B cells) . The first subset of cells may be cells that the UE 115 prefers to measure less often, or to instead generated a measurement prediction for instead of performing cell measurement. The second subset of cells may be cells that the UE 115 prefers to measure more often than the first subset of cells, where the UE 115 reports measurements of reference signal transmissions by the second subset of cells. The UE 115 may indicate the preferred partitioning of the cells to the network entity 105 by reporting which cells the UE 115 prefers be assigned to each subset.

[0085] The network entity 105 may receive the preferred partitioning of the cells and transmit control signaling to the UE 115 indicating which zero or more cells are Set A cells and which zero or more cells are Set B cells, and associated measurement gap configurations for the set A cells and the set B cells. In some examples, the Set A cells may have fewer to no measurement gaps as compared to Set B cells. The UE 115 may perform measurements of the Set A cells or may generate predicted measurements (e.g., via AI / ML) for the Set A cells based on measurements of the Set B cells. The cell partitioning indicated by the network entity 105 may be the same as requested by the UE 115 or may change in which subset one or more cells are included. In some  examples, the network entity 105 may indicate additional cells as part of the Set A cells or the Set B cells. The UE 115 may make measurements of the Set A cells, the Set B cells, or both, in respective measurement gaps, and transmit a report indicating the measurements, one or more predictions, or both, according to the configuration in the control signaling from the network entity 105.

[0086] FIG. 2 shows an example of a wireless communications system 200 that supports UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Specifically, the wireless communications system 200 describes a UE 115-a communicating preference for future cell partitioning with a network entity 105-a and a network entity 105-b. Wireless communications system 200 may be an example of LTM communications. The wireless communications system 200 may implement or be implemented by one or more aspects of the wireless communications system 100. The network entity 105-a and the network entity 105-b may be examples of the network entity 105 as described with reference to FIG. 1, and the UE 115-a may an example of the UE 115 as described with reference to FIG. 1. While illustrated with reference to the network entities 105 and the UE 115, the techniques described herein may be performed by other wireless communications devices.

[0087] The UE 115-a may communicate with the network entity 105-a via a communication link 205 (e.g., downlink) and a communication link 210-a (e.g., uplink. ) The UE 115-a may communicate with the network entity 105-b via a communication link 210-b (e.g., uplink) . For example, the network entity 105-a may transmit a control message 215 indicating a set of candidate cells 230. The UE 115-a may partition (e.g., divide) the candidate cells 230 indicated in the control message 215 into subsets, such as Set A and Set B. The UE 115-a may transmit one or more request messages 220 indicating UE 115-a preference of zero or more cells to be a part of Set A cells 235-a and zero or more cells to be a part of Set B cells 240-a.

[0088] A set of cells as described herein may refer to one or more cells. A subset may be zero or more of the set of cells. In some examples, the candidate cells 230 may be referred to as a set of cells, and the Set A cells 235 and the Set B cells 240 may be referred to as subsets. That is, Set A cells 235 and Set B cells 240 may be zero or more cells of the set of candidate cells 230. For example, the candidate cells 230 may include  one cell, and the UE 115-a may indicate which subset, the Set A cells 235 or the Set B cells 240, the UE 115-a prefers the cell to be assigned to. In some examples, the UE 115-a may indicate a preference for only the cells to be included in the Set A cells 235 or only the cells to be included in the Set B cells 240. In some examples, the UE 115-a may indicate a preference for all of the candidate cells 230 to be assigned to the Set A cells 235, or all of the candidate cells 230 to be assigned to the Set B cells 240.

[0089] The network entity 105-a may receive the request messages 220, and transmit a measurement gap configuration 225 indicating which cells belong to each subset, such as Set A cells 235-a and Set B cells 240-b, and corresponding measurement gaps for each subset. The Set A cells 235-a and Set B cells 240-b may be subsets of the set of candidate cells 230. In some examples, the measurement gap configuration 225 may indicate that one or more additional cells 245 are included in one of the first subset or the second subset, which may be cells that were not a part of the candidate cells 230 and the UE 115-a may not provide (e.g., indicate) a preference for the one or more additional cells 245 being in either of the first subset or the second subset.

[0090] The UE 115-a may receive one or more reference signals 250 from the Set A cells 235-a and Set B cells 240-b during the respective measurement gaps. The network entities 105 may be examples of cells, or may include multiple cells. For example, the network entity 105-a may be a cell of the Set A cells 235, and the network entity 105-b may be a cell of the Set B cells 240. The UE 115-a measure the reference signals 250 according to the measurement gap configuration 225, and transmit a measurement report 255. The UE 115-a may receive one or more reference signals 250-a from the network entity 105-a, and measure the reference signals according to a measurement gap frequency associated with the Set A cells.

[0091] In some examples, the UE 115-a may also receive one or more reference signals 250-b from the network entity 105-b, and measure the reference signals 250-b according to a measurement gap frequency associated with the Set B cells. The UE 115-a may transmit the measurements according to the measurement gap configuration 225. In some examples, the measurements may include AI / ML predictions for one or more Set A cells based on measurements of one or more Set B cells, instead of measurements of the one or more set A cells. For example, the UE 115-a may predict  measurements of the reference signals 250-a associated with the Set A cells based on the measurements of the reference signals 250-b of the set B cells.

[0092] In some applications, AI / ML may be applied to air-interface applications corresponding to various use cases regarding aspects such as performance, complexity, and potential specification impact. For example, AI / ML may be application to beam management, such as beam prediction in time, spatial domain (e.g., which may result in overhead and latency reduction) , beam selection accuracy improvement, or a combination thereof.

[0093] In some examples, AI / ML-based beam management may include beam prediction for a first set, or subset, of beams (e.g., Set A beams) based on a second set, or subset, of beams (e.g., Set B beams) . Beam prediction may be spatial or temporal. In some examples, Set A and Set B may be in the same frequency range. For example, a device may perform spatial-domain downlink beam prediction for Set A beams based on measurement results of Set B beams. In such examples, Set B may be a subset of Set A, or Set A and Set B may be different. For example, Set A may include narrow beams (e.g., similar to channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) beams) and Set B may include wide beams (e.g., similar to synchronization system block (SSB) beams) . In some examples, Set B may be narrow beams, and Set A may be other narrow beams, which may be narrower than Set B. Spatial prediction may reduce UE 115-a power consumption and measurement latency for large numbers of cross-cell beams. For example, the UE 115-a may measure layer 1 reference signal received powers (L1-RSRPs) of a first set of cross-cell SSBs which predicts L1-RSRPs for a second set of cross-cell SSBs, reducing the measurements performed for the second set of cross-cell SSBs.

[0094] In some examples, the UE 115-a may be configured, by the network entity 105-a via control signaling, with a channel state information (CSI) report setting. The associated channel measurement resource (CMR) set may include resources for SSBs, CSI-RSs, or both. The CMR set may be associated with different cells. The UE 115-a may receive control signaling indicting to report at least L1-RSRPs and / or layer 1 signal-to-interference plus noise ratios (L1-SINRs) associated with one or more of the SSBs and / or CSI-RSs indicated in the CMR set.

[0095] AI / ML-based beam management may include temporal prediction. For example, a UE 115-a may perform temporal downlink beam prediction for Set A beams based on historic measurement results of Set B beams. In some examples, the Set A beams and the Set B beams may be the same, which may be applied to temporal beam prediction without a spatial component. In some examples, the Set A and Set B beams may be different, resulting in a combination of spatial and temporal beam prediction. Temporal prediction may reduce LTM latency and reduce throughput interruption, such as for inter-DU or non-ideal backhaul links. For example, the UE 115-a may measure current L1-RSRPs of SSBs while predicting L1-RSRPs of narrow beams (e.g., similar to CSI-RS beams) for LTM target cells with reference to future occasions. In some examples, conditional LTM may benefit from UE-side temporal beam prediction results. The UE 115-a may report L1-RSRPs / L1-SINRs associated with SSBs / CSI-RSs from different cells in a MAC-CE.

[0096] Beams may be partitioned (e.g., separated, divided, assigned) according to beam or cell. The UE may report (e.g., the request messages 220) , either in a feedback message according to CSI or MAC-CE, or in a separate report, requested beam partitioning. In cell-specific beam partitioning, the request messages 220 may include whether L1-RSPRs / L1-SINRs / CMR identifiers (IDs) associated with a specific cell are based on UE 115-a measurements or based on prediction. That is, the identifiers may be associated with a cell that has been addressed in the feedback message. In beam-specific partitioning, the one or more request messages 220 (e.g., a report) may include whether a particular L1-RSRP / L1-SINR / SMR-ID is determined based on actual UE measurements or based on prediction. That is, the UE 115-a indicates specific identifiers for each beam that may have been addressed in the feedback message.

[0097] In some examples, the UE 115-a may support transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states for TCI switching delays or latency expectations. The UE 115-a may be configured for potential TCI-state switching commands with respect to the SSB / CSI-RSs whose L1-RSRPs / L1-SINRs are reported as measured (e.g., a not predicted) in the request message 220. The UE 115-a may support UE predicted TCI-states to prepare for a potential TCI-state switching command with respect to the SSBs / CSI-RSs whose L1-RSRPs / L1-SINRs are reported as predicted in the request message 220. In some examples, cell-specific partitioning may reduce overhead.

[0098] In some examples, LTM may result in increased numbers of L1 measurements requested of the UE, which may result in serving cell throughput degradation. The UE 115-a may be configured with measurement gaps to support the increased volume of L1-RSRP measurements used for LTM, such as inter-frequency LTM or FR2, where the UE 115-a may use multiple receive beams to receive from different cells. Additionally, not all SSBs of candidate cells may be temporally overlapping, such as if there is a subcarrier spacing (SCS) or a numerology difference between cells. Lower layer measurements (e.g., L1-RSRP) may involve more effort and power at the UE 115-a when compared to higher layer measurements (e.g., layer 3 (L3) RSRP measurements) , as lower layer measurements may have relatively shorter reporting periodicity and finer processing.

[0099] Thus, there may be conflicts between serving cell throughput performance and LTM cell switch flexibility. For example, if the network (e.g., network entity 105-a) prioritizes throughput performance, while considering UE 115-a processing capabilities, the number of LTM candidate cells configured for L1 measurements and reports cannot be too large (e.g., no more than 2 cells) , which may result in degraded LTM cell switch flexibility. If the network entity 105-a prioritizes LTM cell switch flexibility, while considering UE 115-a processing capabilities, large amounts of measurement gaps may be configured for the UE 115-a to enable inter-frequency (e.g., FR2) cross-cell L1-RSRP measurements, which may block or restrict scheduling for serving cells and degrade throughput.

[0100] Techniques described herein provide for network entity 105-a and UE 115-a determination of cell partitioning for future L1-RSRP measurements, measurement prediction, or both. The UE 115-a may partition cells into sets (e.g., subsets) for future configuration. For example, network entity 105-a and UE 115-a may determine Set A & Set B cell partitioning for future L1-RSRP measurement and / or L1-RSRP prediction. The frequency at which measurement gaps occur may be closely related with different cells (e.g., multiple cells may have similar measurement gap frequencies) . To reduce how often, or frequency, of measurement gaps, it may be desirable to partition sets of beams in terms of their associated cells, rather than partitioning by beam. Partitioning with respect to cell, instead of with respect to beam, may reduce overhead, as the UE  115-a may transmit an indication of a preferred partitioning of the candidate set of cells instead of a preference on how to partition a set of beams.

[0101] As described with reference to FIG. 2, the UE 115-a may indicate, via as part of the one or more request messages 220, a preferred partitioning that identifies which zero or more cells are part of the Set A cells 235-a and which zero or more cells are part of the Set B cells 240-a. The network entity 105-a may transmit a measurement gap configuration 225 that indicates which cells are the Set A cells 235-b, which cells are the Set B cells 240-b, and also may indicate one or more additional cells 245 that were not addressed by the UE 115-a (e.g., may not have been indicated as part of the candidate cells 230) as being either in the Set A cells 235-a or the Set B cells 240-b. That is, the UE 115-a may receive a measurement gap configuration 225 indicating two sets, and each set may include additional cells 245 that were not indicated as part of the candidate cells 230, and were not indicated by the UE 115-a as part of the one or more request messages 220. In some cases, the network entity 105-a may partition the cells as indicated by the UE 115-a via the one or more request messages 220, or may adjust the preferred partitioning to include a different quantity of cells as Set A cells 235-a, as Set B cells 240-b, or both.

[0102] The Set A cells 235-b may be the cells that the UE 115-a prefer to measure less often (i.e., have measurement gaps that occur less often or where the UE 115-a generates predicted measurements for these cells instead of performing measurements) . The UE 115-a may still be requested to report actually measured L1-RSRPs for occasions wherein measurement gaps are indeed scheduled for the set A cells 235-b. In some cases, the UE 115-a may report predicted L1-RSRPs for measurement gap occasions where measurements gaps are not scheduled for the set A cells 235-b. The Set B cells 240-b may be the cells that the UE 115-a prefers to measure more frequently. The UE 115-a may report actually measured L1-RSRPs with respect to reference signals (e.g., SSBs) measured during measurement gaps for the Set B cells 240-b. In some cases, the UE 115-a may be requested by the network entity 105-a to report reference signal measurements (e.g., actually measured L1-RSRPs associated with the SSBs) for measurement gaps for the Set-B cells. In some cases, the network entity 105-a may not expect the UE 115-a to report any predicted reference signal measurements (e.g., predicted L1-RSRPs) for occasions where measurement gaps are not scheduled.

[0103] The partitioning of the cells may be focused on future, rather than past, measurements and predictions. After the partitioning of the cells into Set A and Set B has been determined by communications between the UE 115-a and the network entity 105-a, the network entity 105-a may further apply measurement gap configurations. That is, the network entity 105-a may indicate measurement gaps after the UE 115-a has indicated set preference for the candidate cells 230. In some examples, the UE 115-a may transmit, via MAC-CE signaling, updates regarding which cells the UE 115-a would prefer be included in the Set A cells 235 and Set B cells 240 for future cell partitioning by the network entity 105-a.

[0104] The network entity 105, the UE 115-a, or both may be involved in determination of cell partitioning. In some examples, the partitioning may be mostly or fully based on the UE 115-a partitioning, as the UE 115-a may have more observations and data with respect to the measurement gap considerations than the network entity.

[0105] In some examples, the network entity 105 may provide, to the UE 115-a, additional partitioning information, such as side conditions or additional parameters, for the UE 115-a to use when determining a preference for partitioning of candidate cells into the first and second subsets. The UE 115-a may expect (e.g., be configured to receive) a number of candidate cells 230 for LTM with the side information associated with the indicated cells. For example, the candidate cells 230 and their side information may be preconfigured as part of the control message 215. The side information may include center frequency, occupied bandwidth, threshold L1-RSRP levels, subcarrier spacings (SCS) , numerology, SCS and numerology differences, a quantity of SSBs, other SSB information, other information associated with cell partitioning, or a combination thereof. In some examples, the network entity 105-a may indicate additional parameters for cell partitioning, such as future temporal window parameters, a requirement for the UE to address each candidate cell 230, frequency of measurement gaps, or any combination thereof.

[0106] The UE 115-a report to the network one or more request messages 220, which may be one or more RRC, MAC-CE, or UCI messages. The UE 115-a may indicate, such as via the request messages 220, a preference for different cells of the candidate cells 230 to be a part of either Set A cells 235-a or Set B cells 240-a for future temporal windows. For example, the UE 115-a may request cells the UE 115-a prefers  to be scheduled with less frequent measurement gaps, and thus scheduled with less frequent measurements of associated SSBs, to be Set A cells 235-a. When requesting the partitioning of cells into the Set A cells 235-a and the Set B cells 240-a, the UE 115-a may identify (e.g., incorporate, consider) any predefined parameters or received conditions as part of the control message 215.

[0107] In some examples, measurement gap configuration 225 may indicate no measurement gaps are scheduled for the Set A cells 235. If no measurement gaps are scheduled, the network entity 105-a may request, such as part of the measurement gap configuration 225, that the UE 115-a report L1-RSRP predictions associated with the reference signal transmission (e.g., SSBs) of the Set A cells 235-b. That is, the UE 115-a may not measure, and is not expected to report, L1-RSRPs associated with Set A cells 235-b that are not configured with measurement gaps. The UE 115-a may report L1-RSRPs for any scheduled measurement gaps for the Set A cells 235-b. The UE 115-a may request that candidate cells 230 the UE 115-a prefers to measure more often be included in the Set B cells 240-a.

[0108] The UE 115-a may receive a measurement gap configuration 225 in response to the one or more request messages 220. The UE 115-a may be configured by the measurement gap configuration 225 to measure reference signal transmission (e.g., SSBs) associated with the Set A cells 235-b and the Set B cells 240-b. In some cases, the network entity 105-a may indicate in the measurement gap configuration 225 for the UE 115-a to report actually measured L1-RSRPs of the Set B cells 240-b for any scheduled measurement gaps. In some examples, if measurement gap occasions are not scheduled for the Set B cells 240-b, the UE 115-a may not report any predicted L1-RSRPs the Set B cells 240-b.

[0109] In some examples, the measurement gap configuration 225 may include cells that were not addressed as part of the request messages 220. Cells not addressed by the request message 220, and thus not indicated by the UE 115-a to be a part of the Set A cells 235-a or the Set B cells 240-b may be configured as either a Set A cell 235-b or a Set B cell 240-b.

[0110] The network entity 105-a may indicate side conditions as part of the partitioning information included in the control message 215. The side conditions may  be preconfigured or otherwise indicated to the UE 115-a. Side conditions may restrict or otherwise place conditions on cell partitioning by the UE 115-a, and may include one or more thresholds on historically measured or reported L1-RSRPs, a maximum number of cells to include in the first or second subsets, a minimum number of cells to include in the first or second subsets, a minimum number of cells having a similar or same SCS or numerology in the second subset, other side information, or a combination thereof.

[0111] The side conditions may include one or more thresholds based on historically measured or predicted L1-RSRPs. For example, the UE 115-a may receive a condition indicating the UE 115-a is only allowed to choose cells associated with historically measured / reported L1-RSRPs as Set B cells 240-a that are beyond the one or more thresholds, while remaining cells are only allowed to be chosen as Set A cells 235-a. The historical measurement may be regarding no less than K SSBs per cell, where K is predefined or indicated by the network. Threshold values may be defined in terms of average value associated with a past temporal window, minimum / maximum L1-RSRP associated with a past temporal window, or the like. In some cases, an L1-RSRP measurement that exceeds the threshold value may have to be present for at least J times for the considered SSB over a past temporal window, where the value of J, temporal window length, window starting point, and window ending point, or any combination thereof, may be predefined or signaled by the network.

[0112] The side conditions may include a minimum or maximum number of cells for the UE 115-a include in the first or second subset that are with respect to another component carrier, band, or frequency range as the current serving cell (s) . A maximum number of cells that may be included in the second subset of cells (e.g., the Set B cells 240-a) , which may result in a reduction of a total quantity of measurement gaps, as Set B cells 240-a may have more measurement gaps when compared to Set A cells 235-a. A minimum number of cells that may be included in the first subset (e.g., the Set A cells 235-a) , which may result in a reduction of a total quantity of measurement gaps. In some examples, the maximum and minimum may be different or separately restricted for one or more different component carriers, one or more different bands, one or more different frequency ranges, or any combination thereof. In some examples, a threshold on the total amount of minimum or maximum cells in the first or second subsets may apply to center-frequency offsets among the inter-frequency cells. Such a threshold may  apply to further reduce the total quantity of measurement gaps, as the UE 115-a may be able to measure more cells if such inter-frequency measurements are for cells that have relatively close center-frequency differences (e.g., within a center-frequency difference threshold) .

[0113] The side conditions may indicate a minimum quantity of cells that include identical SCS and / or numerology for the UE 115-a to include in the second subset of cells (e.g., the Set B cells 240-a) . For example, Set B cells 240-a may have a higher chance of including temporal overlapping SSB occasions (e.g., used for L1-RSRP measurement) that occur within a measurement gap. As such, a measurement gap frequency in which the UE 115-a measures the SSBs for the second subset of cells may be reduced as the UE 115-a may measure multiple different SSBs within the same measurement gap, thereby fewer measurement gaps may be scheduled. In some examples, the network may explicitly signal to instruct the UE 115-a to include a minimum number of cells having temporal overlapping SSB occasions in the second subset, wherein the network indicates which cells have temporal overlapping SSB occasions.

[0114] The UE 115-a may report one or more request messages 220 to the network entity 105-a. The UE 115-a may base cell partitioning reported in the request messages 220 on the one or more parameters received in the control message 215. The additional parameters may be received in addition to side conditions. For example, the one or more parameters may indicate one or more future temporal windows and instruct the UE 115-a to indicate a preference for which candidate cells to include in the first or second subsets in the one or more future temporal windows. The one or more parameters, or other configuration information received with the UE 115-a in control signaling, may indicate specific window duration, window starting points, window ending points, or a combination thereof, for the one or more future temporal windows. The temporal window parameters may be applied when indicating preferences for Set A cells 235, Set B cells 240, or both. Different temporal parameters may be defined for different future temporal windows, and may be a set of predefined or preconfigured options for the UE 115-a to select. The UE 115-a may report one or more chosen temporal window parameters through a control message, such as RRC or MAC-CE, such as the request  messages 220, which indicating a partitioning preference for which of the candidate cells to include in the first or second subsets.

[0115] In some examples, the parameters may instruct the UE to indicate a preference for each candidate cell 230 as either a Set A cell 235 or a Set B cell 240. That is, the first and second subset indication of the Set A cells 235-a and the Set B cells 240-a indicated in the request messages 220 may include all the candidate cells 230. In such as examples, the UE 115-a may only report preferred Set-A cells 235, without addressing the Set B cells 240-b (e.g., as part of a MAC-CE) . The cells not addressed are implicitly not preferred as Set A cells 235-a, and thus preferred not to be configured with predicted measurements. That is, the UE 115-a does not expect to predict measurements for cells that are not indicated as part of the Set A cells 235, despite only indicating specific preference for the Set A cells 235. In some other examples, the UE 115-a may only report preference for Set B cells 240-a, and may not address preference for Set A cells 235-a (e.g., as part of a MAC-CE) . In such examples, the cells not addressed may not be configured with reporting of actually measured L1-RSRPs associated with SSBs of the unaddressed cells. That is, the UE 115-a expects the cells not addressed to possibly be configured with predicted measurements, and that the unaddressed cells will not be Set B cells 240, despite only indicating Set B cells 240-a.

[0116] In some examples, the one or more parameters may include frequency of measurement gaps. For example, such as for Set A cells 235-a, the UE 115-a may further indicate (e.g., recommend) preferred frequency of the future measurement gaps for the set A cells 235-a to be scheduled and together with the associated frequency where the L1-RSRPs are requested to be reported. In some examples, the UE 115-a may indicate a preference of no measurement gaps, such as for the first subset of candidate cells. The UE 115-a may indicate the frequency recommendations for each cell of the Set-A cells separately, or jointly recommend for multiple Set-A cells.

[0117] The UE 115-a preferences for Set A cells 235-a and the Set B cells 240-a may be transmitted as part of one or more request messages 220, which may be RRC, MAC-CE, or UCI messages. For example, the one or more request messages 220 may be transmitted via RRC, and may provide more static information on Set A cell 235 and Set B cell 240 partitioning (e.g., the desired partitioning of candidate cells into Set A cells 235 and Set B cells 240 changes relatively infrequently) . For example, the UE  115-a may report the UE 115-a capability of the maximum quantity of Set A cells 235, or Set B cells 240, or both, that the UE 115-a is capable of supporting, and may report the capability as part of the request messages 220 or another message. In some cases, the UE 115-a may receive further control signaling (e.g., RRC reconfiguration) updating which cells are in the candidate cells 230 or providing updated side information for the candidate cells 230, or both, and the UE 115-a may further update the maximum number of Set A cells 235 and Set B cells 240 that the UE 115-a is capable of supporting.

[0118] In some examples, the UE 115-a may report cell partitioning preferences as part of a request messages 220 that are a MAC-CE. The UE may report a number of candidate cells 230 to include in the first and second subsets, and which cells to include in the first and second subsets. The request message may include a set of candidate cells 230 {m≤M, n≤N} , where m is the requested number of cells of the first subset (e.g., Set A cells 235-a) , n is the requested number of cells of the second subset (e.g., Set B cells 240-b) , and M is the UE 115-a RRC reported maximum number of Set A cells 235 supported by the UE 115-a and N is the UE 115-a RRC reported maximum number of Set B cells 240 supported by the UE 115-a.

[0119] When reporting cell partitioning preferences via MAC-CE, the UE 115-a may receive a request from the network entity 105-a, such as part of the measurement gap configuration 225, for the UE 115-a to report actual reference signal measurements (e.g., L1-RSRPs) with respect to the n chosen candidate cells, instead of predictions. The request from the network entity 105-a may also include candidate cells, such as the additional cells 245 (e.g., [N –n] cells) , that may not have been preferred as either the first subset or the second subset, and a configuration of measurement gaps for performing measurements of the additional cells. The UE 115-a may also receive, form the network entity 105-a, a request for the UE 115-a to report predicted, without actual measurements, L1-RSRPs with respect to the m chosen candidate cells for the first subset, and may also receive configuration of candidate cells that are not preferred as the first subset or the second subset (e.g., M-m cells) , and there may be no measurement gaps for measuring SSBs associated with the N cells.

[0120] The request message 220 may be a MAC-CE message and may be triggered by pre-configuration or be signaled by the network entity 105-a, which may be part of  the control message 215 or otherwise signaled as part of another message. Conditions may be preconfigured or signaled to trigger MAC-CE transmissions, and may include timer or event based conditions. For example, the MAC-CE may be triggered after expiration of the timer. In another example, event based triggering may be that MAC-CE is triggered after an event, which may be predefined, such as if L1-RSRP variation is beyond network controlled or standard predefined one or more thresholds regarding the current one or more serving cells or the current candidate cells 230 to be measured (e.g., for LTM candidate cells that are supposed to be measured) .

[0121] After receiving a MAC-CE message including the request message 220, the network entity 105-a may transmit back an explicit or implicit acknowledgement message. If the UE 115-a does not receive an acknowledgement, the UE 115-a may retransmit the MAC-CE. An explicit acknowledgment may include another downlink MAC-CE. Implicit acknowledgement may include network updates to the measurement gap configuration 225 or CSI report settings requesting measured or predicted L1-RSRPs with respect to SSBs associated with the candidate cells 230, where the updates may satisfy the preferences reported by the UE 115-a as part of the request messages 220.

[0122] In some examples, the UE 115-a may transmit one or more request messages 220 via UCI. For example, the UE 115-a may transmit one or more CSI reports carrying measured, predicted, or both L1-RSRPs with respect to SSBs of the candidate cells 230. The UE 115-a may indicate a preference to send a MAC-CE (e.g., as implicit scheduling request (SR) ) .

[0123] FIG. 3 shows an example of a measurement gap diagram 300 that supports UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. The measurement gap diagram 300 depicts how often the measurement gap occasions occur, corresponding to respective measurement gap frequencies, for both the Set A cells and the Set B cells in relation to data communication durations 310. For example, Set A cells measurement gap frequency 315-a may be an example of a measurement gap frequency configured for the UE 115 for signal measurements of reference signals associated with one or more Set A cells, and a Set B cells measurement gap frequency 315-b may be an example of a measurement gap frequency configured for the UE 115 for signal measurements of  reference signals associated with one or more Set B cells. The Set A cells and the Set B cells may be examples of respective cells described with reference to FIG. 2. The measurement gap diagram 300 may implemented, or be implemented by, one or more aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, or a combination thereof.

[0124] A network entity and a UE may communicate (e.g., transmit, receive, monitor for) via various channels associated with different radio frequencies. For example, the UE and network entity may communicate data during the data communication durations 310, which may be associated with a data channel. The UE may transition between channels for data communication and reference signal measurement of reference signals received from different cells. For example, the UE may transition between communicating data during the data communication durations 310 and receiving, measuring (e.g., which may include predicting) , and reporting measurements of reference signal transmissions 305 (e.g., which may be from one or more reference signals) , during the measurement gaps. The UE may receive Set A cells reference signal transmissions 305-a according to a first channel, and receive Set B cells reference signal transmissions 305-b according to a second channel, where the first and second channels may be different or may be the same.

[0125] In some examples, the UE may be configured with measurement gaps 320 between data communication durations 310. During the measurement gaps 320, the UE may measure the reference signal transmissions 305 and transmit a measurement report according to a configuration from the network entity. Different cells may be associated, or configured with, different measurement gap frequencies 315 of how often measurement gaps 320 are scheduled for measuring the reference signal transmissions 305. For example, the UE may communicate data during the data communication durations 310, and then switch to another channel during the Set B cells measurement gap 320-b to measure and report the Set B cells reference signal transmissions 305. The UE may then resume monitoring for data during a data communication duration 310, and then, during the Set A cells measurement 320-a, measure and report on Set A cells reference signal transmission 305-a.

[0126] As the measurement gap frequency 315 increases, the length or frequency of the data communication durations 310 may decrease, resulting in decreased network  throughput. Thus, while increasing measurement gap frequency 315 may increase reliability of reference signal transmission measurements, network communications may be negatively impacted.

[0127] To reduce the frequency of the measurement gaps 320, the UE may indicate a preference for cell partitioning to the network entity. The UE may receive control signaling set of candidate cells with additional cell information, such as parameters. and partition the candidate cells to a part of either the Set A or the Set B. When determining cell partitioning and indicating a preference, the UE may consider parameters and information indicated by the network entity, as well as historic measurements. The UE may prefer to be scheduled with fewer measurement gaps 320 for the Set A cells than the Set B cells. The UE may indicate a preference for which cells are assigned to be Set A cells and which cells are assigned to be Set B cells.

[0128] The network entity may receive the preference of which cells belong to each set from the UE, and indicate a cell configuration to the UE. The network entity may indicate zero or more cells of Set A and zero or more cells of Set B, and associated measurement gap frequencies 315 for each set. The network entity may indicate which cells are a part of each set according to the preference of the UE. In some examples, the network entity may include additional cells as either Set A or Set B that were not indicated by the UE. Cells of Set A may be associated with a less frequent measurement gap frequency 315 configuration when compared to cells of Set B. For example, the Set A cells measurement gap frequency 315-a may be less than the Set B cells measurement gap frequency 315-b. Thus, reference signals from Set A cells may be measured less frequently than reference signals from Set B.

[0129] In some examples, the Set A cells measurement gap frequency 315-a may be zero, and the UE may not measure the Set A cells reference signal transmissions 305-a. Instead, the UE may predict measurements for the Set A cells reference signal transmissions 305-a based on measurements of the signals of the Set B cells reference signal transmissions 305-b.

[0130] The network entity may receive the measurement reports, which may include the predicted measurements of the Set A cells, at each measurement gap 320 according to the configured measurement gap frequencies 315. In some examples, the network  entity may use the measurement reports to determine whether to continue the data communication durations 310, or to make a change, such as by sending an LTM trigger instructing the UE to communicate with another network entity or cell.

[0131] FIG. 4 shows an example of a process flow diagram 400 that supports UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Process flow diagram 400 describes the communications between a UE 115-b and network entities 105, including UE 115-a preferences for cell partitioning. The UE 115-b may communicate with a network entity 105-c, a network entity 105-d, and a network entity 105-e.

[0132] The process flow diagram 400 may implement, or be implemented by, one or more aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the measurement gap diagram 300, or a combination thereof. The network entity 105-c, the network entity 105-d, and the network entity 105-e may be examples of the network entity 105 as described with reference to FIG. 1, and the UE 115-b may be an example of the UE 115 as described with reference to FIG. 1.

[0133] In the following description of the process flow diagram 400, the operations may be performed in different orders or at different times. Some operations may also be left out of the process flow diagram 400, or other operations may be added. Although the UE 115‐b, the network entity 105‐c, the network entity 105-d, and the network entity 105-e are shown performing the operations of the process flow diagram 400, some aspects of some operations may also be performed by one or more other wireless devices.

[0134] At 405, the UE 115-b may transmit, to the network entity 105-c, a capability report indicating a first quantity of cells that the UE is capable of monitoring, a second quantity of cells the US is capable of monitoring, or both.

[0135] At 410, the UE 115-b may receive, from the network entity 105-c, a first control message indicating multiple candidate cells for beam measurement. In some examples, the candidate cells may be the network entity 105-c, the network entity 105-d, the network entity 105-e. The first control message may also include information associated with one or more cells of the set of candidate cells, where the information  (e.g., side information) indicates a frequency, bandwidth, subcarrier spacing, numerology, system block information, or a combination thereof.

[0136] The first control message may include a threshold (e.g., additional parameters) , where the first quantity of cells requested for inclusion in the first cell subset (e.g., Set A cells) is based on the threshold, the second quantity of cells requested for inclusion in the second cell subset (e.g., Set B cells) is based on the threshold, or both. The threshold may indicate a quantity of cells to include in the first cell subset, the second cell subset, or both, based on one or more previous measurements. In some examples, the threshold may be based at on a component carrier associated with wireless communications with the UE, one or more frequency bands associated with the set of candidate cells, a serving cell of the UE, or a combination thereof. The threshold may be based on a defined number of cells of the candidate cells that have a same subcarrier spacing or a same numerology.

[0137] At 415, the UE 115-b may transmit one or more request messages requesting that a first quantity of the candidate cells be included in a first cell subset and a second quantity of the candidate cells be included in a second cell subset, the one or more request messages indicating a first requested measurement gap frequency for the first cell subset and a second requested measurement gap frequency for the second cell subset. In some examples, each cell of the multiple candidates cells may be included in the first cell subset or the second cell subset. For example, the network entity 105-c may be included as part of the first cell subset (Set A) , and the network entity 105-d and the network entity 105-e may be included as part of the second cell subset (Set B) .

[0138] The one or more request messages may include one or more RRC messages, one or more MAC-CE messages, or one or more UCI messages. The one or more request message may indicate a first window duration associated with the first cell subset and a second window duration associated with the second cell subset.

[0139] At 420, the UE 115-b may receive a second control message indicating a measurement gap configuration that identifies a first measurement gap frequency for the first cell subset and a second measurement gap frequency for the second cell subset based on the one or more request messages. The measurement gap frequency may refer to how often in time measurement gap occasions are scheduled for the set A cells, the  set B cells, or both. The second control message may indicate a first quantity of additional cells associated with the first measurement gap frequency and a second quantity of additional cells associated with the second measurement gap frequency. The measurement gap configuration may be based on the capability report. In some examples, the second control message may be a measurement gap configuration message.

[0140] At 425, the UE 115-b may receive one or more reference signals from the network entity 105-c, the network entity 105-d, the network entity 105-e, or a combination thereof, where the network entity 105-c, the network entity 105-d, the network entity 105-e are each a respective candidate cell. For example, the UE 115-b may be configured with a first set of measurement gap occasions for the set A cells that correspond to the first measurement gap frequency and a second set of measurement gap occasions for the set B cells that correspond to the second measurement gap frequency. In some cases, the measurement gap configuration may indicate that no measurement gap occasions are configured for the set A cells, and instead the UE may generate predictions for the one or more set A cells.

[0141] At 430, the UE 115-b may perform one or more beam measurements of one or more reference signal transmissions according to the first measurement gap frequency, the second measurement gap frequency, or both. For example, the UE 115-b may measure reference signal transmissions from the network entity 105-c according to the first measurement gap frequency and measure reference signal transmissions from the network entity 105-d and the network entity 105-e according to the second measurement gap frequency.

[0142] At 435, the UE 115-b may transmit a measurement report that indicates a predicted beam metric associated with a first cell of the first cell subset based at least in part on the first measurement gap frequency indicating that no measurement gaps are configured for the first cell subset. The measurement report may include the one or more beam measurements.

[0143] At 440, in some examples, the UE 115-b may receive mobility control signaling from the network entity 105-c. For example, the network entity 105-a may transmit signaling, such as an LTM trigger, instructing to the UE 115-b to perform  future data communications with another cell, or network entity 105, such as network entity 105-d.

[0144] At 445, the UE 115-b may transmit one or more communications with the network entity 105-d based on the measurement report 435 after performing LTM from the network entity 105-a to network entity 105-d.

[0145] FIG. 5 shows a block diagram 500 of a device 505 that supports UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. The device 505 may be an example of aspects of a UE 115 as described herein. The device 505 may include a receiver 510, a transmitter 515, and a communications manager 520. The device 505, or one or more components of the device 505 (e.g., the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, and the communications manager 520) , may include at least one processor, which may be coupled with at least one memory, to, individually or collectively, support or enable the described techniques. Each of these components may be in communication with one another (e.g., via one or more buses) .

[0146] The receiver 510 may provide a means for receiving information such as packets, user data, control information, or any combination thereof associated with various information channels (e.g., control channels, data channels, information channels related to UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning) . Information may be passed on to other components of the device 505. The receiver 510 may utilize a single antenna or a set of multiple antennas.

[0147] The transmitter 515 may provide a means for transmitting signals generated by other components of the device 505. For example, the transmitter 515 may transmit information such as packets, user data, control information, or any combination thereof associated with various information channels (e.g., control channels, data channels, information channels related to UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning) . In some examples, the transmitter 515 may be co-located with a receiver 510 in a transceiver module. The transmitter 515 may utilize a single antenna or a set of multiple antennas.

[0148] The communications manager 520, the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, or various combinations thereof or various components thereof may be examples of means  for performing various aspects of UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning as described herein. For example, the communications manager 520, the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, or various combinations or components thereof may be capable of performing one or more of the functions described herein.

[0149] In some examples, the communications manager 520, the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, or various combinations or components thereof may be implemented in hardware (e.g., in communications management circuitry) . The hardware may include at least one of a processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , a central processing unit (CPU) , an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, a microcontroller, discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof configured as or otherwise supporting, individually or collectively, a means for performing the functions described in the present disclosure. In some examples, at least one processor and at least one memory coupled with the at least one processor may be configured to perform one or more of the functions described herein (e.g., by one or more processors, individually or collectively, executing instructions stored in the at least one memory) .

[0150] Additionally, or alternatively, the communications manager 520, the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, or various combinations or components thereof may be implemented in code (e.g., as communications management software or firmware) executed by at least one processor. If implemented in code executed by at least one processor, the functions of the communications manager 520, the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, or various combinations or components thereof may be performed by a general-purpose processor, a DSP, a CPU, an ASIC, an FPGA, a microcontroller, or any combination of these or other programmable logic devices (e.g., configured as or otherwise supporting, individually or collectively, a means for performing the functions described in the present disclosure) .

[0151] In some examples, the communications manager 520 may be configured to perform various operations (e.g., receiving, obtaining, monitoring, outputting, transmitting) using or otherwise in cooperation with the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, or both. For example, the communications manager 520 may receive information from the receiver 510, send information to the transmitter 515, or be integrated in  combination with the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, or both to obtain information, output information, or perform various other operations as described herein.

[0152] The communications manager 520 may support wireless communications in accordance with examples as disclosed herein. For example, the communications manager 520 is capable of, configured to, or operable to support a means for receiving a first control message indicating a set of multiple candidate cells for beam measurement. The communications manager 520 is capable of, configured to, or operable to support a means for transmitting one or more request messages requesting that a first quantity of the set of multiple candidate cells be included in a first cell subset and a second quantity of the set of multiple candidate cells be included in a second cell subset, the one or more request messages indicating a first requested measurement gap frequency for the first cell subset and a second requested measurement gap frequency for the second cell subset. The communications manager 520 is capable of, configured to, or operable to support a means for receiving a second control message indicating a measurement gap configuration that identifies a first measurement gap frequency for the first cell subset and a second measurement gap frequency for the second cell subset based on the one or more request messages.

[0153] By including or configuring the communications manager 520 in accordance with examples as described herein, the device 505 (e.g., at least one processor controlling or otherwise coupled with the receiver 510, the transmitter 515, the communications manager 520, or a combination thereof) may support techniques for including UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning, which may support one or more advantages, including but not limited to: reduced processing, reduced power consumption, and more efficient utilization of communication resources.

[0154] FIG. 6 shows a block diagram 600 of a device 605 that supports UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. The device 605 may be an example of aspects of a device 505 or a UE 115 as described herein. The device 605 may include a receiver 610, a transmitter 615, and a communications manager 620. The device 605, or one of more components of the device 605 (e.g., the receiver 610, the transmitter 615, and the communications manager 620) , may include at least one processor, which may be  coupled with at least one memory, to support the described techniques. Each of these components may be in communication with one another (e.g., via one or more buses) .

[0155] The receiver 610 may provide a means for receiving information such as packets, user data, control information, or any combination thereof associated with various information channels (e.g., control channels, data channels, information channels related to UE preference reporting on future cell partitioning) . Information may be passed on to other components of the device 605. The receiver 610 may utilize a single antenna or a set of multiple antennas.

[0266] The various illustrative blocks and components described in connection with the disclosure herein may be implemented or performed using a general-purpose processor, a DSP, an ASIC, a CPU, an FPGA or other programmable logic device, discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof designed to perform the functions described herein. A general-purpose processor may be a microprocessor but, in the alternative, the processor may be any processor, controller, microcontroller, or state machine. A processor may also be implemented as a combination of computing devices (e.g., a combination of a DSP and a microprocessor, multiple microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a DSP core, or any other such configuration) . Any functions or operations described herein as being capable of being performed by a processor may be performed by multiple processors that, individually or collectively, are capable of performing the described functions or operations.

[0267] The functions described herein may be implemented using hardware, software executed by a processor, firmware, or any combination thereof. If implemented using software executed by a processor, the functions may be stored as or transmitted using one or more instructions or code of a computer-readable medium. Other examples and implementations are within the scope of the disclosure and appended claims. For  example, due to the nature of software, functions described herein may be implemented using software executed by a processor, hardware, firmware, hardwiring, or combinations of any of these. Features implementing functions may also be physically located at various positions, including being distributed such that portions of functions are implemented at different physical locations.

[0268] Computer-readable media includes both non-transitory computer storage media and communication media including any medium that facilitates transfer of a computer program from one location to another. A non-transitory storage medium may be any available medium that may be accessed by a general-purpose or special-purpose computer. By way of example, and not limitation, non-transitory computer-readable media may include RAM, ROM, electrically erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM) , flash memory, compact disk (CD) ROM or other optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage or other magnetic storage devices, or any other non-transitory medium that may be used to carry or store desired program code means in the form of instructions or data structures and that may be accessed by a general-purpose or special-purpose computer, or a general-purpose or special-purpose processor. Also, any connection is properly termed a computer-readable medium. For example, if the software is transmitted from a website, server, or other remote source using a coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, twisted pair, digital subscriber line (DSL) , or wireless technologies such as infrared, radio, and microwave, then the coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, twisted pair, DSL, or wireless technologies such as infrared, radio, and microwave are included in the definition of computer-readable medium. Disk and disc, as used herein, include CD, laser disc, optical disc, digital versatile disc (DVD) , floppy disk and Blu-ray disc. Disks may reproduce data magnetically, and discs may reproduce data optically using lasers. Combinations of the above are also included within the scope of computer-readable media. Any functions or operations described herein as being capable of being performed by a memory may be performed by multiple memories that, individually or collectively, are capable of performing the described functions or operations.

[0269] As used herein, including in the claims, “or” as used in a list of items (e.g., a list of items prefaced by a phrase such as “at least one of” or “one or more of” ) indicates an inclusive list such that, for example, a list of at least one of A, B, or C means A or B or C or AB or AC or BC or ABC (i.e., A and B and C) . Also, as used herein, the phrase  “based on” shall not be construed as a reference to a closed set of conditions. For example, an example step that is described as “based on condition A” may be based on both a condition A and a condition B without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. In other words, as used herein, the phrase “based on” shall be construed in the same manner as the phrase “based at least in part on. ”

[0270] As used herein, including in the claims, the article “a” before a noun is open-ended and understood to refer to “at least one” of those nouns or “one or more” of those nouns. Thus, the terms “a, ” “at least one, ” “one or more, ” “at least one of one or more” may be interchangeable. For example, if a claim recites “a component” that performs one or more functions, each of the individual functions may be performed by a single component or by any combination of multiple components. Thus, the term “a component” having characteristics or performing functions may refer to “at least one of one or more components” having a particular characteristic or performing a particular function. Subsequent reference to a component introduced with the article “a” using the terms “the” or “said” may refer to any or all of the one or more components. For example, a component introduced with the article “a” may be understood to mean “one or more components, ” and referring to “the component” subsequently in the claims may be understood to be equivalent to referring to “at least one of the one or more components. ” Similarly, subsequent reference to a component introduced as “one or more components” using the terms “the” or “said” may refer to any or all of the one or more components. For example, referring to “the one or more components” subsequently in the claims may be understood to be equivalent to referring to “at least one of the one or more components. ”
