Description

UPLINK TRANSMISSION BASED ON SIMULTANEOUS TRANSMISSION FROM MULTIPLE PANELSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communication, and more particularly, to simultaneous transmission of physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmissions from multiple panels.BACKGROUND

[0002] The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifies a radio interface referred to as fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) (5G NR) . An architecture for a 5G NR wireless communication system includes a 5G core (5GC) network, a 5G radio access network (5G-RAN) , a user equipment (5G UE) , etc. The 5G NR architecture seeks to provide increased data rates, decreased latency, and / or increased capacity compared to prior generation cellular communication systems.

[0003] Wireless communication systems, in general, provide various telecommunication services (e.g., telephony, video, data, messaging, etc. ) based on multiple-access technologies, such as orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technologies, that support communication with multiple UEs. Improvements in mobile broadband continue the progression of such wireless communication technologies. For example, enhancements in transmitting uplink communications from a UE to a network entity.

[0004] BRIEF SUMMARY

[0005] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects. This summary neither identifies key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineates the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0006] A network entity may configure a user equipment (UE) to transmit an uplink signal, such as a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission or a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmission, based on a single spatial domain filter. The single spatial domain filter corresponds to one beam from one UE panel. The  network entity provides, to the UE, a beam indication (e.g., transmission configuration indication (TCI) state or spatial relation information) for the uplink signal via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, medium access control-control element (MAC-CE) , or downlink control information (DCI) . The UE determines the uplink beam and uplink power control parameters based on the indicated TCI or spatial relation information.

[0007] In some examples, the network entity schedules the UE to transmit the uplink signal from multiple panels. For instance, the network entity may schedule a PUSCH / PUCCH transmission simultaneously from two different UE panels using either a single DCI or multiple DCIs (multi-DCI) . For simultaneous transmission from multiple panels (STxMP) , the network entity indicates multiple TCI states (e.g., 2 TCI states) for the uplink transmission, which may be associated with multiple sounding reference signal (SRS) resource sets configured for either a codebook-based or non-codebook transmission.

[0008] Single DCI scheduling of a multi-panel PUSCH / PUCCH transmission may include the UE multiplexing the PUSCH / PUCCH transmission from different UE panels based on spatial domain multiplexing (SDM) techniques. In other implementations, the UE transmits on PUSCH / PCCH from the different UE panels based on single-frequency network (SFN) techniques, where the UE transmits a same PUSCH / PUCCH transmission from both panels using fully overlapped time domain and frequency domain resources. Multi-DCI scheduling of a multi-panel PUSCH / PUCCH transmission includes the network entity transmitting, to the UE, a plurality of DCIs that independently schedule a plurality of uplink transmissions. The uplink transmissions may fully overlap or partially overlap in time domain with fully / partially overlapped or non-overlapped frequency domain resources.

[0009] Different UE capabilities and configurations of a maximum number of layers for the different uplink transmission schemes may cause increased complexity in determining a buffer size for limited buffer rate matching (LBRM) and / or indicating the precoder for the uplink transmission. Additionally, determining the uplink transmission based on a data rate across component carriers (CCs) and / or per CC may also be of increased complexity in view of the different UE capabilities and different transmission schemes. Accordingly, aspects of the present disclosure address the above-noted and other deficiencies by implementing buffer management techniques for uplink STxMP in association with the different UE capabilities and configurations  for the different transmission schemes. For instance, the UE may implement the buffer management techniques using a reference transport block (TB) size for LBRM, a PUSCH transmission based on a reference data rate, and / or a precoder indication for the uplink transmission in view of dynamic transmission scheme switching.

[0010] According to some aspects, a UE receives, from a network entity, a configuration for STxMP. The configuration indicates multiple TCI states and a transmission scheme associated with the STxMP. The UE receives, from the network entity, DCI scheduling an uplink transmission and indicating a precoder for each panel of the multiple panels based on a maximum number of layers for the uplink transmission. The UE transmits, to the network entity via the transmission scheme associated with the STxMP, the uplink transmission using the indicated precoders.

[0011] According to some aspects, a network entity transmits, to a UE, a configuration for STxMP. The configuration indicates multiple TCI states and a transmission scheme associated with the STxMP. The network entity transmits, to the UE, DCI scheduling an uplink transmission and indicating a precoder for each panel of the multiple panels based on a maximum number of layers for the uplink transmission. The network entity receives, from the UE via the transmission scheme associated with the STxMP, the uplink transmission using the indicated precoders.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0023] FIG. 1 illustrates a diagram 100 of a wireless communications system associated with a plurality of cells 190. The wireless communications system includes user equipments (UEs) 102 and base stations / network entities 104. Some base stations may include an aggregated base station architecture and other base stations may include a disaggregated base station architecture. The aggregated base station architecture utilizes a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single radio access network (RAN) node. A disaggregated base station architecture utilizes a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more units (e.g., radio unit (RU) 106, distributed unit (DU) 108, central unit (CU) 110) . For example, a CU 110 is implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs 108 may be co-located with the CU 110, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed throughout one or multiple other RAN nodes. The DUs 108 may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs 106. Any of the RU 106, the DU 108 and the CU 110 can be implemented as virtual units, such as a virtual radio unit (VRU) , a virtual distributed unit (VDU) , or a virtual central unit (VCU) . The base station / network entity 104 (e.g., an aggregated base station or disaggregated units of the base station, such as the RU 106 or the DU 108) , may be referred to as a transmission reception point (TRP) .

[0024] Operations of the base station 104 and / or network designs may be based on aggregation characteristics of base station functionality. For example, disaggregated base station architectures are utilized in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open-radio access network (O-RAN) network, or a virtualized radio access  network (vRAN) , which may also be referred to a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) . Disaggregation may include distributing functionality across the two or more units at various physical locations, as well as distributing functionality for at least one unit virtually, which can enable flexibility in network designs. The various units of the disaggregated base station architecture, or the disaggregated RAN architecture, can be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit. For example, the base stations 104d, 104e and / or the RUs 106a, 106b, 106c, 106d may communicate with the UEs 102a, 102b, 102c, 102d, and / or 102s via one or more radio frequency (RF) access links based on a Uu interface. In examples, multiple RUs 106 and / or base stations 104 may simultaneously serve the UEs 102, such as by intra-cell and / or inter-cell access links between the UEs 102 and the RUs 106 / base stations 104.

[0025] The RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110 may include (or may be coupled to) one or more interfaces configured to transmit or receive information / signals via a wired or wireless transmission medium. For example, a wired interface can be configured to transmit or receive the information / signals over a wired transmission medium, such as via the fronthaul link 160 between the RU 106d and the baseband unit (BBU) 112 of the base station 104d associated with the cell 190d. The BBU 112 includes a DU 108 and a CU 110, which may also have a wired interface (e.g., midhaul link) configured between the DU 108 and the CU 110 to transmit or receive the information / signals between the DU 108 and the CU 110. In further examples, a wireless interface, which may include a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver, such as an RF transceiver, configured to transmit and / or receive the information / signals via the wireless transmission medium, such as for information communicated between the RU 106a of the cell 190a and the base station 104e of the cell 190e via cross-cell communication beams 136-138 of the RU 106a and the base station 104e.

[0026] The RUs 106 may be configured to implement lower layer functionality. For example, the RU 106 is controlled by the DU 108 and may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions, or lower layer PHY functionality, such as execution of fast Fourier transform (FFT) , inverse FFT (iFFT) , digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc. The functionality of the RU 106 may be based on the functional split, such as a functional split of lower layers.

[0027] The RUs 106 may transmit or receive over-the-air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 102. For example, the RU 106b of the cell 190b communicates with the UE 102b of the cell 190b via a first set of communication beams 132 of the RU 106b and a second set of communication beams 134b of the UE 102b, which may correspond to inter-cell communication beams or, in some examples, cross-cell communication beams. For instance, the UE 102b of the cell 190b may communicate with the RU 106a of the cell 190a via a third set of communication beams 134a of the UE 102b and a fourth set of communication beams 136 of the RU 106a. DUs 108 can control both real-time and non-real-time features of control plane and user plane communications of the RUs 106.

[0028] Any combination of the RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110, or reference thereto individually, may correspond to a base station 104. Thus, the base station 104 may include at least one of the RU 106, the DU 108, or the CU 110. The base stations 104 provide the UEs 102 with access to a core network. The base stations 104 may relay communications between the UEs 102 and the core network (not shown) . The base stations 104 may be associated with macrocells for higher-power cellular base stations and / or small cells for lower-power cellular base stations. For example, the cell 190e may correspond to a macrocell, whereas the cells 190a-190d may correspond to small cells. Small cells include femtocells, picocells, microcells, etc. A network that includes at least one macrocell and at least one small cell may be referred to as a “heterogeneous network. ”

[0029] Transmissions from a UE 102 to a base station 104 / RU 106 are referred to as uplink (UL) transmissions, whereas transmissions from the base station 104 / RU 106 to the UE 102 are referred to as downlink (DL) transmissions. Uplink transmissions may also be referred to as reverse link transmissions and downlink transmissions may also be referred to as forward link transmissions. For example, the RU 106d utilizes antennas of the base station 104d of cell 190d to transmit a downlink / forward link communication to the UE 102d or receive an uplink / reverse link communication from the UE 102d based on the Uu interface associated with the access link between the UE 102d and the base station 104d / RU 106d.

[0030] Communication links between the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may be based on multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. The communication links may be associated with one or more carriers. The UEs 102 and  the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may utilize a spectrum bandwidth of Y MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400, 800, 1600, 2000, etc. MHz) per carrier allocated in a carrier aggregation of up to a total of Yx MHz, where x component carriers (CCs) are used for communication in each of the uplink and downlink directions. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other along a frequency spectrum. In examples, uplink and downlink carriers may be allocated in an asymmetric manner, with more or fewer carriers allocated to either the uplink or the downlink. A primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers may be included in the component carriers. The primary component carrier may be associated with a primary cell (PCell) and a secondary component carrier may be associated with a secondary cell (SCell) .

[0031] Some UEs 102, such as the UEs 102a and 102s, may perform device-to-device (D2D) communications over sidelink. For example, a sidelink communication / D2D link utilizes a spectrum for a wireless wide area network (WWAN) associated with uplink and downlink communications. Such sidelink / D2D communication may be performed through various wireless communications systems, such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems, Bluetooth systems, Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, New Radio (NR) systems, etc.

[0032] The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may each include a plurality of antennas. The plurality of antennas may correspond to antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays that may facilitate beamforming operations. For example, the RU 106b transmits a downlink beamformed signal based on a first set of communication beams 132 to the UE 102b in one or more transmit directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may receive the downlink beamformed signal based on a second set of communication beams 134b from the RU 106b in one or more receive directions of the UE 102b. In a further example, the UE 102b may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal (e.g., sounding reference signal (SRS) ) to the RU 106b based on the second set of communication beams 134b in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102b. The RU 106b may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102b in one or more receive directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may perform beam training to determine the best receive and transmit directions for the beamformed signals. The transmit and receive directions for the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may or may not be the same.

[0033] In further examples, beamformed signals may be communicated between a first base station / RU 106a and a second base station 104e. For instance, the base station  104e of the cell 190e may transmit a beamformed signal to the RU 106a based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The RU 106a may receive the beamformed signal from the base station 104e of the cell 190e based on the RU communication beams 136 in one or more receive directions of the RU 106a. In further examples, the base station 104e transmits a downlink beamformed signal to the UE 102e based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The UE 102e receives the downlink beamformed signal from the base station 104e based on UE communication beams 130 in one or more receive directions of the UE 102e. The UE 102e may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal to the base station 104e based on the UE communication beams 130 in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102e, such that the base station 104e may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102e in one or more receive directions of the base station 104e.

[0034] The base station 104 may include and / or be referred to as a network entity. That is, “network entity” may refer to the base station 104 or at least one unit of the base station 104, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, and / or the CU 110. The base station 104 may also include and / or be referred to as a next generation evolved Node B (ng-eNB) , a next generation NB (gNB) , an evolved NB (eNB) , an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS) , an extended service set (ESS) , a TRP, a network node, network equipment, or other related terminology. The base station 104 or an entity at the base station 104 can be implemented as an IAB node, a relay node, a sidelink node, an aggregated (monolithic) base station, or a disaggregated base station including one or more RUs 106, DUs 108, and / or CUs 110. A set of aggregated or disaggregated base stations may be referred to as a next generation-radio access network (NG-RAN) . In some examples, the UE 102a operates in dual connectivity (DC) with the base station 104e and the base station / RU 106a. In such cases, the base station 104e can be a master node and the base station / RU 160a can be a secondary node.

[0035] Still referring to FIG. 1, in certain aspects, any of the UEs 102 may include a simultaneous transmission from multiple panels (STxMP) component 140 configured to receive, from a network entity, a configuration for STxMP, the configuration indicating multiple transmission configuration indication (TCI) states and a transmission scheme associated with the STxMP; receive, from the network entity,  downlink control information (DCI) scheduling an uplink transmission and indicating a precoder for each panel of the multiple panels based on a maximum number of layers for the uplink transmission; and transmit, to the network entity via the transmission scheme associated with the STxMP, the uplink transmission using the indicated precoders.

[0036] In certain aspects, any of the base stations 104 or a network entity of the base stations 104 may include an STxMP configuration component 150 configured to transmit, to a UE, a configuration for STxMP, the configuration indicating multiple TCI states and a transmission scheme associated with the STxMP; transmit, to the UE, DCI scheduling an uplink transmission and indicating a precoder for each panel of the multiple panels based on a maximum number of layers for the uplink transmission; and receive, from the UE via the transmission scheme associated with the STxMP, the uplink transmission using the indicated precoders.

[0037] Accordingly, FIG. 1 describes a wireless communication system that may be implemented in connection with aspects of one or more other figures described herein. Further, although the following description may be focused on 5G NR, the concepts described herein may be applicable to other similar areas, such as 5G-Advanced and future versions, LTE, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , and other wireless technologies, such as 6G.

[0038] FIGs. 2A-2B illustrates DCI scheduling for STxMP according to embodiments. In particular, the diagram 200 of FIG. 2A is of single DCI scheduling for STxMP, whereas the diagram 250 of FIG. 2B is of multi-DCI scheduling for STxMP.

[0039] A network entity may configure a UE to transmit an uplink signal, such as an SRS, a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) signal, or a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) signal, based on a single spatial domain filter. The single spatial domain filter corresponds to one beam from one UE panel. The network entity provides, to the UE, a beam indication (e.g., TCI or spatial relation information indication) for an uplink signal via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, medium access control-control element (MAC-CE) , or DCI 220. The UE determines the uplink beam and uplink power control parameters (e.g., P0 indicating a target Rx power, alpha indicating a pathloss compensation factor, pathloss reference signal (PLRS) , and closed-loop power control index) based on the indicated TCI or spatial relation information. The TCI for transmitting an uplink signal may be an uplink TCI or joint TCI.

[0040] The UE maintains a buffer to encode a transport block (TB) for a PUSCH. A size of the buffer is based on a reference TB size (TBS) for limited buffer rate matching (LBRM) (e.g., TBSLBRM) . In some implementations, the UE may receive a configuration to enable the LBRM, e.g., rateMatching is configured as limitedBufferRM. The TBSLBRM is based on a maximum number of layers, a maximum modulation order, a reference number of resource blocks (RBs) , a maximum coding rate, and a reference number of resource elements (REs) per RB. Output bits for low density parity check (LDPC) coding can be determined based on a number of reference bits Nref with LBRM. In an example where C indicates a number of code blocks.

[0041] A reference data rate for the frequency range is based on the UE capability and may correspond to:

[0042] where J is a number of aggregated component carriers in a band or band combination and Rmax = 948 / 1024. For the j-th component carrier (CC) ,  is a maximum number of supported layers indicated by maxNumberMIMO-LayersPDSCH for downlink and a maximum of maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH and maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH for uplink.  is the maximum supported modulation order indicated by supportedModulationOrderDL for downlink and supportedModulationOrderUL for uplink. f (j) is the scaling factor indicated by scalingFactor or scalingFactor-1024QAM-FR1 and may have values of 1, 0.8, 0.75, and 0.4. μ indicates the numerology and is the average orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol duration in a subframe for numerology μ(e.g.,  ) , assuming a normal cyclic prefix.  is the maximum RB allocation in bandwidth BW (j) with numerology μ, where BW (j) is the UE supported maximum bandwidth in a particular band or band combination. OH (j) is the overhead, which may include values of 0.14 for frequency range (FR) 1 for downlink, 0.18 for FR2 for downlink, 0.08 for FR1 for uplink, or 0.10 for FR2 for uplink.

[0043] The UE may not provide a PUSCH transmission for a frequency range in a slot sj in serving cell j if the condition is not satisfied, where J is the number of configured serving cells for the frequency range. For the j-th serving cell, M is the number of TB (s) transmitted in slot-sj. For PUSCH repetition Type B, each repetition is counted separately. Tslotμ (j) =10-3 / 2μ (j) , where μ (j) is the numerology for PUSCH (s) in slot sj of the j-th serving cell. For the m-th TB,  where A is the number of bits in the TB, C is the total number of code blocks for the TB, and C′ is the number of scheduled code blocks for the TB. The UE may not provide PUSCH transmissions for serving cell j in a slot if the condition is not satisfied, where L is the number of symbols for the PUSCH and M is the number of TBs in the PUSCH.  where μ is the numerology of the PUSCH. For the m-th TB,

[0044] A network entity may transmit DCI 220 to schedule the UE to (simultaneously) transmit an uplink transmission 230 from multiple panels. For example, the network entity may schedule a PUSCH / PUCCH transmission from two UE panels. The network entity may schedule STxMP based on a single DCI 220 or multiple DCIs (multi-DCI) 220a-220b. For STxMP, the network entity may indicate multiple TCI states (e.g., 2 TCI states) for the uplink transmission (s) 230 (e.g., PUSCH (s) ) . The uplink transmissions 230 are associated with multiple SRS resource sets (e.g., 2 SRS resource sets) configured for codebook-based transmission or non-codebook-based transmission.

[0045] The diagram 200 illustrates single DCI-based scheduling for a multi-panel uplink transmission 230a-230b (e.g., multi-panel PUSCH / PUCCH transmission) . In some implementations, the UE multiplexes the uplink transmissions 230a-230b from different panels based on spatial domain multiplexing (SDM) techniques. In other implementations, the UE transmits the uplink transmissions 230a-230b from the different panels based on single-frequency network (SFN) techniques. For example, the UE transmits a same PUSCH / PUCCH transmission in both panels using fully overlapped time domain and frequency domain resources. The network entity transmits the DCI 220 to the UE on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) or configures the DCI 220 via RRC signaling.

[0046] The diagram 250 illustrates multi-DCI-based scheduling for a multi-panel uplink transmission 230a-230b (e.g., multi-panel PUSCH / PUCCH transmission) . The network entity transmits two DCIs 220a-220b that independently schedule two uplink transmissions 230a-230b. For example, two PUSCH / PUCCH transmissions may fully overlap or partially overlap in time domain with fully / partially overlapped or non-overlapped frequency domain resources. The network entity transmits each DCI 220a-220b to the UE on a PDCCH or configures each DCI 220a-220b via RRC signaling.

[0047] The network entity may configure the UE, via RRC signaling, with a number of parameters based on the maximum number of layers for different transmission schemes. In some examples, the parameters may include a maximum number of layers per panel for a codebook-based SDM scheme (e.g., maxRankSdm or maxRankSdmDCI-0-2 for PUSCHs scheduled with DCI format 0_1 and DCI format 0_2, respectively) , or codebook-based SFN scheme (e.g., maxRankSfn or maxRankSfnDCI-0-2 for PUSCH scheduled by DCI format 0_1 and 0_2, respectively) . In further examples, the parameters may include a maximum number of layers per panel for a non-codebook based SDM scheme (e.g., maxMIMO-LayersforSdm or maxMIMO-LayersforSdmDCI-0-2 for PUSCHs scheduled with DCI format 0_1 and DCI format 0_2, respectively) or non-codebook-based SFN scheme (e.g., maxMIMO-LayersforSfm or maxMIMO-LayersforSfmDCI-0-2 for PUSCHs scheduled with DCI format 0_1 and DCI format 0_2, respectively) . The parameters may be for a maximum number of layers per PUSCH for the codebook-based transmission scheme or the non-codebook-based transmission scheme for single-panel transmission or multi-DCI-based multi-panel transmission. For the codebook-based transmission scheme, the parameters may include maxRank or maxRankDCI-0-2 for PUSCHs scheduled with DCI format 0_1 and DCI format 0_2, respectively. For the non-codebook-based transmission scheme, the parameters may include maxMIMO-Layers or maxMIMO-LayersDCI-0-2 for PUSCHs scheduled with DCI format 0_1 and DCI format 0_2, respectively.

[0048] The UE may report, to the network entity, a UE capability on a supported maximum number of layers for different transmission schemes. The UE may report a supported maximum number of layers per panel for the codebook-based SDM scheme (e.g., based on maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH) or the codebook-based SFN scheme (e.g., based on maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH) . The  UE may report a supported maximum number of layers per panel for the non-codebook-based SDM scheme (e.g., based on maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSdm-PUSCH) or the non-codebook based SFM scheme (e.g., based on maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH) . In some examples, the UE reports, to the network entity, a supported maximum number of layers per PUSCH for the codebook-based transmission scheme for single-panel transmission or multi-DCI-based multi-panel transmission (e.g., based on maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH) or the supported maximum number of layers per PUSCH for the non-codebook-based transmission scheme for single-panel transmission or multi-DCI-based multi-panel transmission (e.g., based on maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH) . The supported maximum number of layers per PUSCH for the codebook-based transmission scheme for multi-DCI-based multi-panel transmission may be indicated to the network entity based on maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBmDCI-PUSCH. The supported maximum number of layers per PUSCH for the non-codebook-based transmission scheme for multi-DCI-based multi-panel transmission may be indicated to the network entity based on maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBmDCI-PUSCH.

[0049] The UE may have to determine a buffer size for LBRM based on different UE capabilities and different configurations of the maximum number of layers for different transmission schemes. Further, the UE may have to determine the PUSCH transmission based on a condition of the data rate across CCs and / or the data rate per CC for the different UE capabilities and different transmission schemes. The UE may indicate the precoder for the PUSCH transmission for the different UE capabilities and different configurations of the maximum number of layers for the different transmission schemes as well as for dynamic switching of transmission schemes. The network entity determines the DCI field size and DCI field indication for the precoder indication (e.g., DCI field precoder information and number of layers for codebook-based transmission or DCI field SRS resource indicator for non-codebook-based transmission) based on the maximum number of layers for the uplink transmission. By implementing buffer management techniques for uplink STxMP based on different UE capabilities and different configurations of the maximum number of layers for different transmission schemes, the UE may determine a reference TB size for LBRM, an uplink transmission 230 (e.g., PUSCH transmission) based on a reference data rate, and / or a precoder indication for the uplink transmission 230 for dynamic transmission scheme switching.

[0050] FIG. 3 illustrates a signaling diagram 300 for an uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) based on STxMP. The UE 102 may transmit 302, to the network entity 104, a UE capability message indicating supported transmission schemes and configurations for STxMP. The UE 102 may further indicate 302, to the network entity 104, a UE capability for a supported reference TB size calculation scheme and / or a data set calculation scheme for STxMP.

[0051] The network entity 104 transmits 310, to the UE 102, RRC signaling (e.g., an RRCReconfiguration message) configuring the UE 102 with a transmission scheme for the uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) . The network entity 104 may optionally configure 310 the UE 102 with the reference TB size calculation scheme, the data rate calculation scheme, and / or the maximum number of layers for at least one transmission scheme for PUSCH transmission. The RRC signaling may indicate an RRC (re-) configuration message from the network entity 104 to the UE or a system information block (SIB) , where the SIB can be a predefined SIB (e.g., SIB1) or a different SIB (e.g., SIB J, where J corresponds to an integer greater than 21) .

[0052] The network entity 104 transmits 320, to the UE 102, DCI scheduling the PUSCH transmission (s) . In single-DCI examples, the network entity 104 schedules the PUSCH (s) from multiple panels by transmitting 320 a single DCI, which indicates the precoders for each panel based on at least one of the UE capabilities for a maximum number of layers and the configured maximum number of layers for one or more transmission schemes. In multi-DCI examples, the network entity 104 schedules the PUSCH transmission (s) from multiple panels by transmitting 320 multi-DCI (e.g., a first DCI schedules a first panel independent from a second DCI that schedules a second panel) . The scheduled PUSCH and the scheduling DCI are associated with one control resource set (CORESET) pool index configured by the network entity 104. For multi-DCI mode, in the non-limiting example of FIG. 3, the network entity 104 transmits 320, to the UE 102, the first DCI of the scheduling DCI indicating the first precoder for the first scheduled PUSCH and further transmits 320, to the UE 102, a second DCI of the scheduling DCI indicating a second precoder for a second scheduled PUSCH. Each of the first DCI and the second DCI indicates the precoder for the scheduled PUSCH based on at least one of the UE capabilities for the maximum number of layers and the configured maximum number of layers for the one or more transmission schemes.

[0053] After receiving 320 the DCI (s) , the UE 102 determines whether the scheduled PUSCH (s) satisfy a data rate condition across CCs and / or a data rate condition per CC. If the conditions are satisfied, the UE 102 transmits 330, to the network entity 104, the PUSCH transmission (s) based on the reference TB size for LBRM and the indicated precoders. The transmission 330 may be based on at least one of the UE capabilities for the maximum number of layers and the configured maximum number of layers for the one or more transmission schemes. Otherwise, the UE 102 may refrain from transmitting at least one of the PUSCH transmission (s) or may still transmit the PUSCH transmission (s) . In some implementations, the network entity 104 refrains from scheduling PUSCH (s) that cannot satisfy the conditions for the data rate across the CCs or the data rate per CC.

[0054] For a codebook-based transmission scheme, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 determine a bit-width, an indication of precoder information, and a number of layers indicated by the DCI. The determination may be based on a maximum number of layers configured for a single-panel or multi-panel transmission for the DCI format, the configured transmission scheme for STxMP (e.g., SDM or SFN) , the maximum number of layers per panel for the configured transmission scheme for STxMP, and / or a supported maximum number of layers per panel for the configured transmission scheme for STxMP (e.g., reported 302 via the UE capability message) .

[0055] If the maximum number of layers per panel for a transmission scheme is not configured, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the bit-width, the indication of the precoder information, and the number of layers based on at least the UE capability for the supported maximum number of layers per panel for the transmission scheme or based on the maximum number of layers configured for the single-panel based transmission scheme. Otherwise, the network entity 104 and UE 102 may determine the bit-width, the indication of precoder information, and the number of layers based on at least the configured maximum number of layers per panel for the transmission scheme. In some implementations, the UE 102 reports 302 a supported maximum number of layers for determining the bit-width, the indication of the precoder information, and the number of layers when at least one of the maximum number of layers for codebook based single-panel PUSCH or STxMP PUSCH is not configured by the network entity 104. The UE 102 may transmit 302 the information via the UE capability message.

[0056] For STxMP, the network entity 104 and the UE may determine the indication of the precoder information and the number of layers indicated by the DCI based on the DCI field precoding information and the number of layers. The number of bits for the DCI field precoding information and number of layers may correspond to: 0 bits if the higher layer parameter txConfig = nonCodeBook; 0 bits for 1 antenna port and if the higher layer parameter txConfig = codebook; 4, 5, or 6 bits according to predefined protocols for 4 antenna ports or 2 or 4 bits according to predefined protocols for 2 antenna ports , if txConfig = codebook, ul-FullPowerTransmission is not configured or configured to fullpowerMode2 or configured to fullpower or transform precoder is disabled. The number of bits may be based on a codebookSubset and at least one of: the higher layer parameters maxRank if multipanelScheme is not configured, max {maxRank, maxRankSfn} if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme and maxRank and maxRankSfn are configured, max{maxRank, maxRankSdm} if multipanelScheme = sdmScheme and maxRank and maxRankSdm are configured, max {maxRank, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH} or maxRank if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is configured and maxRankSfn is not configured, max {maxRank, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH} or maxRank if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is configured and maxRankSdm is not configured, max {maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxRankSfn} or maxRankSfn if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is not configured and maxRankSfn is configured, or max {maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxRankSdm} or maxRankSdm if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is not configured and maxRankSdm is configured.

[0057] In some examples, the number of bits for the DCI field precoding information and number of layers is 4 or 5 bits for 4 antenna ports if at least one of: txConfig =codebook, ul-FullPowerTransmission = fullpowerMode1, maxRank=2 if multipanelScheme is not configured, max {maxRank, maxRankSfn} = 2 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, max {maxRank, maxRankSdm} = 2 if multipanelScheme = sdmScheme, max {maxRank, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH} =2 or maxRank=2 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is configured and maxRankSfn is not configured, max {maxRank, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH} =2 or maxRank=2 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is configured and maxRankSdm is not configured, max {maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxRankSfn} =2 or maxRankSfn=2 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is not configured and maxRankSfn is configured, max{maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxRankSdm} =2 or maxRankSdm=2 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is not configured and maxRankSdm is configured, or transform precoder is disabled and, for 4 antenna ports, according to the values of the higher layer parameter codebookSubset. For 2 antenna panels, the number of bits may be 2 bits based on the above parameters and may also include codebookSubset=nonCoherent.

[0058] In other examples, the number of bits for the DCI field precoding information and number of layers is 4 or 6 bits for 4 antenna ports if at least one of: txConfig =codebook, ul-FullPowerTransmission = fullpowerMode1, maxRank=3 or 4, transform precoder is disabled, and according to the values of the higher layer parameter codebookSubset.

[0059] In further examples, the number of bits for the DCI field precoding information and number of layers is 2, 4, or 5 bits for 4 antenna ports, or 1 or 3 bits for 2 antenna ports, if at least one of: txConfig = codebook, ul-FullPowerTransmission is not configured or configured to fullpowerMode2 or configured to fullpower, and according to whether the transform precoder is enabled or disabled. In such examples, the number of bits is further based on a codebookSubset and at least one of: maxRank=1 if multipanelScheme is not configured, max {maxRank, maxRankSfn} =1 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, max {maxRank, maxRankSdm} = 1 if multipanelScheme = sdmScheme, max {maxRank, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH} =1 or maxRank=1 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is configured and maxRankSfn is not configured, max {maxRank, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH} =1 or maxRank=1 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is configured and maxRankSdm is not configured, max {maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxRankSfn} =1 or maxRankSfn=1 if multipanelScheme =sfnScheme, maxRank is not configured and maxRankSfn is configured, max{maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxRankSdm} =1 or maxRankSdm=1 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is not configured and maxRankSdm is configured.

[0060] In still further examples, the number of bits for the DCI field precoding information and number of layers is 3 or 4 bits for 4 antenna ports, or 2 bits for 2 antenna ports, based on the values of higher layer parameter codebookSubset and if at least one of: txConfig = codebook, ul-FullPowerTransmission = fullpowerMode1,  maxRank=1 if multipanelScheme is not configured, max {maxRank, maxRankSfn} =1 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, max {maxRank, maxRankSdm} = 1 if multipanelScheme = sdmScheme, max {maxRank, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH} =1 or maxRank=1 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is configured and maxRankSfn is not configured, max {maxRank, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH} =1 or maxRank=1 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is configured and maxRankSdm is not configured, max {maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxRankSfn} =1 or maxRankSfn=1 if multipanelScheme =sfnScheme, maxRank is not configured and maxRankSfn is configured, or max {maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxRankSdm} =1 or maxRankSdm=1 if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, maxRank is not configured and maxRankSdm is configured.

[0061] For a non-codebook-based transmission scheme, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 determine the bit-width and an indication of an SRS resource indicator indicated by the DCI (e.g., DCI field SRS resource indicator) based on a maximum number of layers configured for the single-panel or multi-DCI-based transmission for the DCI format, the configured transmission scheme for STxMP (e.g., SDM or SFN) , the maximum number of layers per panel configured for the configured transmission scheme for STxMP, and / or a supported maximum number of layers per panel for the configured transmission scheme for STxMP (e.g., reported 302 via the UE capability message) .

[0062] If the maximum number of layers per panel for a transmission scheme is not configured, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the bit-width and the indication of the SRS resource indicator (e.g., DCI field SRS resource indicator) based on at least the UE capability for the supported maximum number of layers per panel for the transmission scheme or based on the maximum number of layers configured for the single-panel transmission scheme. Otherwise, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the bit-width and the indication of the SRS resource indicator based on at least the configured maximum number of layers per panel for the transmission scheme.

[0063] If the maximum number of layers for single-panel transmission is not configured, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the bit-width and the indication of SRS resource indicator (e.g., DCI field SRS resource indicator) based on the supported maximum number of layers for the single-panel transmission scheme, the  configured maximum number of layers per-panel for the configured STxMP transmission scheme (e.g., SDM or SFN) if one STxMP transmission scheme is configured, the supported maximum number of layers per-panel for the configured STxMP transmission scheme if one STxMP transmission scheme is configured, and / or the supported maximum number of layers for multi-DCI based STxMP if multi-DCI based STxMP is configured.

[0064] The UE 102 may report 302 a supported maximum number of layers for determining the bit-width and the indication of the SRS resource indicator when at least one of the maximum number of layers for non-codebook-based single-panel PUSCH or STxMP PUSCH is not configured by the network entity 104. The UE 102 may transmit 302 the information to the network entity 104 via the UE capability message.

[0065] The network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the bit-width and the indication of the SRS resource indicator indicated by the DCI (e.g., DCI field SRS resource indicator) . For the SRS resource indicator, the number of bits may be based on: bits if the higher layer parameter txConfig =nonCodebook, where NSRS is the number of configured SRS resources in the SRS resource set indicated by the SRS resource set indicator field if present, NSRS is the number of configured SRS resources in the SRS resource set associated with the coresetPoolIndex value for the CORESET used for the PDCCH carrying the DCI format 0_1 if the UE 102 is not provided coresetPoolIndex or is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 0 for the first CORESETs and is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 1 for the second CORESETs and is provided enableSTx2PofmDCI. Otherwise, NSRS is the number of configured SRS resources in the SRS resource set configured by higher layer parameter srs-ResourceSetToAddModList and associated with the higher layer parameter usage of value 'nonCodeBook' .

[0066] If the UE 102 supports operations with maxMIMO-Layers and the higher layer parameter maxMIMO-Layers of PUSCH-ServingCellConfig of the serving cell is configured, the number of bits may also be based on Lmax where Lmax corresponds to at least one of: max {maxMIMO-Layers, maxMIMO-LayersforSdm} if maxMIMO-LayersforSdm is configured, max {maxMIMO-Layers, maxNumberMIMO- LayersNonCBSdm-PUSCH} or maxMIMO-Layers if maxMIMO-LayersforSdm is not configured, max {maxMIMO-Layers, maxMIMO-LayersforSfn} if maxMIMO-LayersforSfn is configured, max {maxMIMO-Layers, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSfn-PUSCH} if maxMIMO-LayersforSfn is configured, maxMIMO-Layers otherwise. Otherwise, Lmax corresponds to the maximum number of layers for PUSCH supported by the UE 102 for the serving cell for non-codebook-based operations. In such cases, Lmax may correspond to at least one of: max{maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH, maxMIMO-LayersforSdm} or maxMIMO-LayersforSdm or maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH if maxMIMO-LayersforSdm is configured, max {maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSdm-PUSCH} or maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH or maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSdm-PUSCH if maxMIMO-LayersforSdm is not configured and if multipanelScheme = sdmScheme, max{maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH, maxMIMO-LayersforSfn} or maxMIMO-LayersforSfn or maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH if maxMIMO-LayersforSfn is configured, max {maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSfn-PUSCH} , or maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH or maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSfn-PUSCH if maxMIMO-LayersforSfn is not configured and if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme or maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBmDCI-PUSCH if the UE 102 is not provided coresetPoolIndex or is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 0 for the first CORESETs and is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 1 for the second CORESETs and is provided enableSTx2PofmDCI.

[0067] The network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the uplink data rate across CCs and data rate per CC based on at least one of the supported maximum number of layers for each CC for single-panel operation, the supported maximum number of layers per panel for one of the STxMP transmission schemes (e.g. SDM or SFN) and STxMP mode (e.g., single-DCI or multi-DCI) , the configured STxMP transmission scheme and STxMP mode, the number of configured CCs (e.g., for data rate across CC) , the maximum supported modulation order, a configured scaling factor, a numerology for the uplink transmission, an OFDM symbol duration, a maximum RB allocation, and / or additional overhead.

[0068] In a first example, the maximum number of layers equals the maximum number of layers for the configuration / UE capability for the STxMP transmission scheme.  The network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the uplink data rate across CCs and the data rate per CC based on the supported maximum number of layers per panel for the configured STxMP transmission scheme and STxMP mode if one STxMP transmission scheme and STxMP mode is configured. Otherwise, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the uplink data rate across CCs and the data rate per CC based on the supported maximum number of layers for single-panel transmission. The value is the maximum number of supported layers given by maxNumberMIMO-LayersPDSCH for downlink. For uplink,  is the maximum of 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH and 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSdm-PUSCH if multipanelScheme =sdmScheme, the maximum of 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH and 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSfn-PUSCH if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme, the maximum of 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBmDCI-PUSCH and 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBmDCI-PUSCH if the UE 102 is not provided coresetPoolIndex or is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 0 for the first CORESETs and is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 1 for the second CORESETs and is provided enableSTx2PofmDCI, or otherwise is the maximum of maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH and maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH.

[0069] In a second example, the maximum number of layers equals max {max number of layers for configuration / UE capability for the STxMP transmission scheme, max number of layers for single-panel transmission} . The network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the uplink data rate across CCs and the data rate per CC based on the maximum or minimum value of the Y multiplied by the supported maximum number of layers per panel for the configured STxMP transmission scheme and the supported maximum number of layers for single-panel transmission if one STxMP transmission scheme is configured. Otherwise, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the uplink data rate across CCs and the data rate per CC based on the supported maximum number of layers for single-panel transmission. Y corresponds to 1 for an SFN scheme and number of panels for SDM scheme or multi-DCI based STxMP. The value is the maximum number of supported layers given by maxNumberMIMO-LayersPDSCH for downlink. For uplink,  is the  maximum of maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH, 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH and 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSdm-PUSCH, if multipanelScheme =sdmScheme; maximum of maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH and maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSfn-PUSCH, if multipanelScheme =sfnScheme; maximum of 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBmDCI-PUSCH and 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBmDCI-PUSCH, if the UE 102 is not provided coresetPoolIndex or is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 0 for the first CORESETs, and is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 1 for the second CORESETs, and is provided enableSTx2PofmDCI; or otherwise is the maximum of maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH and maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH.

[0070] In some implementations,  is the maximum number of supported layers given by maxNumberMIMO-LayersPDSCH for downlink and for uplink is the minimum of max (maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH) , and max (2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH, 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSdm-PUSCH) , if multipanelScheme =sdmScheme; maximum of max (maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH) , and max (maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSfn-PUSCH) , if multipanelScheme = sfnScheme; maximum of 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBmDCI-PUSCH and 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBmDCI-PUSCH, if the UE 102 is not provided coresetPoolIndex or is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 0 for the first CORESETs, and is provided coresetPoolIndex with value 1 for the second CORESETs, and is provided enableSTx2PofmDCI; or is otherwise the maximum of maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH and maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH.

[0071] In a third example, the maximum number of layers equals the maximum number of layers for all supported STxMP transmission scheme / mode and single-panel transmission scheme. The network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the uplink data rate across CCs and the data rate per CC based on the maximum or minimum value of Y multiplied by the supported maximum number of layers per  panel for the supported STxMP transmission scheme (s) , STxMP mode (s) , and the supported maximum number of layers for single-panel transmission. The value of Y corresponds to 1 for an SFN scheme and number of panels for SDM scheme or multi-DCI based STxMP. The value is the maximum number of supported layers given by maxNumberMIMO-LayersPDSCH for downlink and for uplink the value  is the maximum of maxNumberMIMO-LayersCB-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCB-PUSCH, 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSdm-PUSCH, 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSdm-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBSfn-PUSCH, maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBSfn-PUSCH, 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersCBmDCI-PUSCH and 2*maxNumberMIMO-LayersNonCBmDCI-PUSCH.

[0072] For multi-DCI-based STxMP, the network entity 104 and the UE 102 determine the uplink data rate condition based on the PUSCHs scheduled by multiple DCIs in one CC, where the PUSCHs are in the same slot. The condition for the data rate for PUSCH transmission in a slot for a serving cell j is corresponds to:

[0073] where L is the total number of symbols assigned to the PUSCH (s) , M is the total number of TBs in the PUSCH (s) , and where μ is the numerology of the PUSCH and where is the number of symbols per slot. For the m-th TB,  Ais the number of bits in the transport block, C is the total number of code blocks for the transport block, and C′ is the number of scheduled code blocks for the transport block.

[0074] The network entity 104 and the UE 102 may determine the total number of symbols assigned to the PUSCH (s) by calculating the overlapped symbol (s) for the PUSCHs once. If the first PUSCH occurs from symbol x+1 to symbol x+L1 and the second PUSCH occurs from symbol y+1 to symbol y+L2, and the number of overlapped symbols is L0, the total number of symbols assigned to the PUSCH (s) is L1+L2-L0.

[0075] The data rate per CC may also be defined per panel. The network entity 104 and the UE 102 determine the uplink data rate condition based on the PUSCH from one panel in a CC, where the PUSCHs are in the same slot. The network entity 104 and  the UE 102 may determine the reference data rate per panel for a CC based on the maximum number of layers per panel. The condition for the data rate per panel for PUSCH transmission associated with a TCI state in a slot for a serving cell j may correspond to:

[0076] where L is the number of symbols assigned to the PUSCH from one TCI state, M is the number of TBs in the PUSCH, and where μ is the numerology of the PUSCH and where is the number of symbols per slot. For the m-th TB,  Ais the number of bits in the transport block, C is the total number of code blocks for the transport block, and C′ is the number of scheduled code blocks for the transport block.

[0077] FIG. 4 illustrates a diagram 400 of a maximum shared buffer size for both a single-panel and multi-panel uplink transmission according to an embodiment. In some examples, the UE maintains a shared buffer 413 for a single-panel uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) and a simultaneous uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) from multiple panels. The network entity and / or the UE determine a reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum or minimum value of the maximum number of layers configured by the network entity or reported by the UE for single-panel transmission and the maximum number of layers configured by the network entity or reported by the UE for the configured STxMP transmission scheme. In the non-limiting example of FIG. 4, a two layer buffer 411 for a single-panel PUSCH transmission is shared with a four layer buffer 412 for multi-panel PUSCH transmission, and the size of the shared buffer 413 is maximized for performance and channel coding. For example, the size of the shared buffer 413 may be equal to the size of the four layer buffer 412.

[0078] FIG. 5 illustrates a diagram 500 of a minimum shared buffer size for both a single-panel and multi-panel uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) according to an embodiment. In some examples, the UE maintains a shared buffer 514 for the single-panel uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) and a simultaneous uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) from multiple panels. In the non-limiting example of FIG. 5, a two layer buffer 411 for a single-panel PUSCH  transmission is shared with a four layer buffer 412 for multi-panel PUSCH transmission and the size of the shared buffer 514 is based on a minimum buffer size in order to reduce the complexity of the UE. For example, the size of the shared buffer 514 may be equal to the size of the two layer buffer 411.

[0079] FIG. 6 illustrates a diagram 600 of separate buffers for single-panel and multi-panel uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) according to an embodiment. In some examples, the UE maintains a single-panel buffer 615 for a single-panel uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) and a separate multi-panel buffer 616 for simultaneous uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission) from multiple panels. In the non-limiting example of FIG. 6, a two layer buffer 411 for a single-panel PUSCH is allocated to the single-panel buffer 615 separately from a four layer buffer 412 for multi-panel PUSCH allocated to the multi-panel buffer 616. The size of the separate buffers 615 and 616 is based on a maximum buffer size of the two layer buffer 411 and the four layer buffer 412, respectively, in order to simplify the UE complexity for buffer management. For single-panel based uplink transmission, the network entity and / or UE may determine the reference TB size for LBRM based on the value of the maximum number of layers configured by the network entity or reported by the UE for single-panel transmission. For STxMP, the network entity and / or UE may determine the reference TB size for LBRM based on the value of the maximum number of layers configured by the network entity or reported by the UE for the configured STxMP transmission scheme.

[0080] In some aspects, the UE may report the UE capability indicating whether it supports determining the reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum or minimum value of the maximum number of layers for single-panel PUSCH and STxMP PUSCH. In some other aspects, the network entity may configure whether the UE should determine the reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum or minimum value of the maximum number of layers for single-panel PUSCH and STxMP PUSCH.

[0081] Tables 1, 2, and 3 illustrate examples for determining the maximum number of layers for the reference TB size (e.g., TBSLBRM) for LBRM calculation for an SFN scheme, an SDM scheme, and multi-DCI based STxMP, respectively, where the number of panels may be pre-defined (e.g., 2) , reported by the UE capability, or configured by the network entity. The network entity may separately configure the maximum number of layers for codebook-based and non-codebook-based  transmission. The UE may report the supported maximum number of layers for codebook-based and non-codebook-based transmission by separate UE capabilities. Tables 1, 2, and 3 may be separately applied for codebook-based and non-codebook-based transmission.

[0082] Table 1 provides for determination of a maximum number of layers X for reference TB size calculation for LBRM for an SFN scheme:

[0083] Table 2 provides for determination of a maximum number of layers X for reference TB size calculation for LBRM for an SDM scheme:

[0084] Table 3 provides for determination of a maximum number of layers X for reference TB size calculation for LBRM for a multi-DCI based transmission scheme:

[0085] The network entity and the UE may determine the reference TB size for LBRM based on at least one of a first reference TB size determined for single-panel PUSCH and a second reference TB size for STxMP PUSCH. For example, the reference TB size is determined as TBSLBRM = a*TBSLBRM, 1 + b*TBSLBRM, 2 , where a and b may be pre-defined, reported by the UE capability, and / or configured by the network entity. TBSLBRM, 1 indicates the reference TB size for LBRM determined for single-panel PUSCH. TBSLBRM, 2 indicates the reference TB size for LBRM determined for STxMP PUSCH.

[0086] If the UE is scheduled with a PUSCH transmission using a certain transmission scheme, such as single-panel PUSCH, SFN based PUSCH, or SDM based PUSCH, the network entity and / or the UE determines the reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum number of layers configured or reported for the transmission scheme. For single-panel PUSCH with codebook-based or non-codebook-based transmission, the network entity and / or the UE determines the reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum number of layers configured or reported for the codebook-based or non-codebook-based transmission for the single-panel PUSCH transmission, respectively. For SFN-based PUSCH with codebook-based or non-codebook-based transmission, the network entity and / or the UE determines the reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum number of layers configured or reported for the codebook-based or non-codebook-based transmission for the SFN scheme, respectively. For SDM based PUSCH with codebook-based or non-codebook-based transmission, the network entity and / or the UE determines the reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum number of layers configured or reported for the codebook-based or non-codebook-based transmission for the SDM scheme, respectively, and the number of panels. The number of panels may be  predefined (e.g., 2) , reported by the UE capability, or configured by the network entity.

[0087] In examples, the maximum number of layers for one TB for uplink scheduling is indicated by X, which can correspond to different scenarios. For example, if the higher layer parameter maxMIMO-Layers of PUSCH-ServingCellConfig of the serving cell is configured, X is indicated by the higher layer parameter maxMIMO-Layers. If the higher layer parameter maxRank of pusch-Config of the serving cell is configured, X is indicated by the maximum value of maxRank across all BWPs of the serving cell. If the higher layer parameter maxMIMO-LayersForSfn of PUSCH-ServingCellConfig of the serving cell is configured, X is indicated by the higher layer parameter maxMIMO-LayersForSfn. If the higher layer parameter maxMIMO-LayersForSdm of PUSCH-ServingCellConfig of the serving cell is configured, X is indicated by 2*maxMIMO-LayersForSdm. If the higher layer parameter maxRankSfn of pusch-Config of the serving cell is configured, X is indicated by the maximum value of maxRankSfn across all BWPs of the serving cell. If the higher layer parameter maxRankSdm of pusch-Config of the serving cell is configured, X is indicated by the maximum value of 2*maxRankSdm across all BWPs of the serving cell. Otherwise, X is indicated by the maximum number of layers for PUSCH supported by the UE for the serving cell for the configured STxMP transmission scheme and transmission mode.

[0088] The UE may report a UE capability indicating whether the UE supports the maximum shared buffer 413, the minimum shared buffer 514, and / or separate buffers 615-616 for single-panel transmission and STxMP. In some examples, the UE reports the UE capability indicating whether the UE determines the reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum number of layers for STxMP transmission, the minimum number of layers for STxMP transmission, the maximum number of layers for single-panel transmission multiplied by Y, or the minimum number of layers for STxMP transmission multiplied by Y, where Y is 1 for an SFN scheme or multi-DCI based STxMP, and number of panels for an SDM scheme. The UE may also report a UE capability indicating the maximum number of layers to determine the reference TB size for LBRM.

[0089] The network entity may configure the transmission scheme used to determine the reference TB size for LBRM based on the maximum number of layers for STxMP transmission, the minimum number of layers for STxMP transmission, the maximum  number of layers for single-panel transmission multiplied by Y, or the minimum number of layers for STxMP transmission multiplied by Y. The network entity may also configure the maximum number of layers to determine the reference TB size for LBRM.

[0110] The specific order or hierarchy of blocks in the processes and flowcharts disclosed herein is an illustration of example approaches. Hence, the specific order or hierarchy of blocks in the processes and flowcharts may be rearranged. Some blocks may also be combined or deleted. Dashed lines may indicate optional elements of the diagrams. The accompanying method claims present elements of the various blocks in an example order, and are not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented in the claims, processes, and flowcharts.

[0111] The detailed description set forth herein describes various configurations in connection with the drawings and does not represent the only configurations in which the concepts described herein may be practiced. The detailed description includes specific details for the purpose of providing a thorough explanation of various concepts. However, these concepts may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid obscuring such concepts.

[0112] Aspects of wireless communication systems, such as telecommunication systems, are presented with reference to various apparatuses and methods. These apparatuses and methods are described in the following detailed description and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, components, circuits, processes, call flows, systems, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as “elements” ) . These elements may be implemented using electronic hardware, computer software, or combinations thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or  software depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0113] An element, or any portion of an element, or any combination of elements may be implemented as a “processing system” that includes one or more processors. Examples of processors include microprocessors, microcontrollers, graphics processing units (GPUs) , central processing units (CPUs) , application processors, digital signal processors (DSPs) , reduced instruction set computing (RISC) processors, systems-on-chip (SoC) , baseband processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) , programmable logic devices (PLDs) , state machines, gated logic, discrete hardware circuits, and other similar hardware configured to perform the various functionality described throughout this disclosure. One or more processors in the processing system may execute software, which may be referred to as software, firmware, middleware, microcode, hardware description language, or otherwise. Software shall be construed broadly to mean instructions, instruction sets, code, code segments, program code, programs, subprograms, software components, applications, software applications, software packages, routines, subroutines, objects, executables, threads of execution, procedures, functions, or any combination thereof.

[0114] If the functionality described herein is implemented in software, the functions may be stored on, or encoded as, one or more instructions or code on a computer-readable medium, such as a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium. Computer-readable media includes computer storage media and can include a random-access memory (RAM) , a read-only memory (ROM) , an electrically erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM) , optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage, other magnetic storage devices, combinations of these types of computer-readable media, or any other medium that can be used to store computer executable code in the form of instructions or data structures that can be accessed by a computer. Storage media may be any available media that can be accessed by a computer.

[0115] Aspects, implementations, and / or use cases described herein may be implemented across many differing platform types, devices, systems, shapes, sizes, and packaging arrangements. For example, the aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may come about via integrated chip implementations and other non-module-component based devices, such as end-user devices, vehicles, communication devices, computing devices, industrial equipment, retail / purchasing devices, medical devices, artificial intelligence (AI) -enabled devices, machine learning (ML) -enabled devices, etc. The  aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may range from chip-level or modular components to non-modular or non-chip-level implementations, and further to aggregate, distributed, or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices or systems incorporating one or more techniques described herein.

[0116] Devices incorporating the aspects and features described herein may also include additional components and features for the implementation and practice of the claimed and described aspects and features. For example, transmission and reception of wireless signals necessarily includes a number of components for analog and digital purposes, such as hardware components, antennas, RF-chains, power amplifiers, modulators, buffers, processor (s) , interleavers, adders / summers, etc. Techniques described herein may be practiced in a wide variety of devices, chip-level components, systems, distributed arrangements, aggregated or disaggregated components, end-user devices, etc., of varying configurations.

[0117] The description herein is provided to enable a person skilled in the art to practice the various aspects described herein. Various modifications to these aspects will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the generic principles defined herein may be applied to other aspects. Thus, the claims are not limited to the aspects described herein, but are to be interpreted in view of the full scope of the present disclosure consistent with the language of the claims.

[0118] Reference to an element in the singular does not mean “one and only one” unless specifically stated, but rather “one or more. ” Terms such as “if, ” “when, ” and “while” do not imply an immediate temporal relationship or reaction. That is, these phrases, e.g., “when, ” do not imply an immediate action in response to or during the occurrence of an action, but simply imply that if a condition is met then an action will occur, but without requiring a specific or immediate time constraint for the action to occur. The terms “may” , “might” , and “can” , as used in this disclosure, often carry certain connotations. For example, “may” refers to a permissible feature that may or may not occur, “might” refers to a feature that probably occurs, and “can” refers to a capability (e.g., capable of) . The phrase “For example” often carries a similar connotation to “may” and, therefore, “may” is sometimes excluded from sentences that include “for example” or other similar phrases.

[0119] Unless specifically stated otherwise, the term “some” refers to one or more. Combinations such as “at least one of A, B, or C” or “one or more of A, B, or C”include any combination of A, B, and / or C, such as A and B, A and C, B and C,  or A and B and C, and may include multiples of A, multiples of B, and / or multiples of C, or may include A only, B only, or C only. Sets should be interpreted as a set of elements where the elements number one or more. Terms or articles such as “a” , “an” , and / or “the” may refer to one of an item, feature, element, etc., that the term or article precedes, or may refer to more than one of said item, feature, element, etc. that the term or article precedes. For example, the recitation “awidget” does not preclude reference to multiples of said widget, as “multiple widgets” necessarily includes “awidget” . Hence, the recitation “awidget” may be interpreted as “at least one widget” or, similarly, interpreted as “one or more widgets” .

[0120] Unless otherwise specifically indicated, ordinal terms such as “first” and “second” do not necessarily imply an order in time, sequence, numerical value, etc., but are used to distinguish between different instances of a term or phrase that follows each ordinal term.

[0121] Reference numbers, as used in the specification and figures, are sometimes cross-referenced among drawings to denote same or similar features. A feature that is exactly the same in multiple drawings may be labeled with the same reference number in the multiple drawings. A feature that is similar among the multiple drawings, but not exactly the same, may be labeled with reference numbers that have different leading numbers but have one or more of the same trailing numbers (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc., may refer to similar features in the drawings) . Hence, like numbers may refer to like actions.
