AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing guidewire systems face challenges in accurately determining the position and orientation within blood vessels, leading to risks such as vascular wall dissection when the guidewire passes through a false lumen, due to their large-scale device configurations.

Method used

A guidewire equipped with an ultrasonic sensor mounted to face the outer periphery, allowing for accurate generation of cross-sectional images to determine the guidewire's position and orientation within the blood vessel, and a torquer for elongated medical devices that measures the rotation angle of the guidewire with high precision.

Benefits of technology

Enables accurate determination of the guidewire's position and orientation within the blood vessel using a simpler device configuration, reducing the risk of vascular dissection by ensuring the guidewire remains in the true lumen.

Abstract

This guide wire includes a body and an ultrasonic sensor. The body is elongated and has a distal end portion that bends at a bending point, which is the proximal end of the distal end portion. The ultrasonic sensor is securely mounted on the body so that an ultrasonic transmission / reception surface faces the outer circumference in a cross section of the body. The ultrasonic sensor is positioned in the vicinity of the bending point in the body and at a bending base portion that is closer to the proximal end side than the bending point. In a cross section of the body, the ultrasonic sensor is positioned so that the bending direction of the distal end portion is present in a position range where the sound pressure of an ultrasonic wave transmitted from the ultrasonic sensor is equal to or higher than the half value of the maximum value.
