Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the hydrogenation of aromatic diamines having both amino groups directly bonded to either one or more aromatic cores wherein the aromatic diamines are brought into contact with a hydrogen agent in the presence of ammonia and a catalyst comprising ruthenium on a support material that comprises zirconium oxide, wherein the amount of ammonia is equal to or greater than 80 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the aromatic diamines.
