System and method for least squares channel estimation using sliding OCC based channel estimates

The system addresses the inaccuracies in conventional LS channel estimation by using sliding OCC-based estimates to generate multiple OCC groups, reducing noise variance and improving channel estimation accuracy in MIMO systems with large delay spreads.

Abstract

The present disclosure provides a system (108) and a method (600) for least squares channel estimation using sliding OCC based channel estimates. The system (108) receives one or more Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS) subcarriers from a terminal through a Code- Division Multiplexing (CDM) group, where one or more DMRS antenna ports of the CDM group are multiplexed using one or more Orthogonal Cover Codes (OCC). Pairing of the one or more DMRS subcarriers on the one or more DMRS antenna ports generates a plurality of OCC groups. The system (108) subsequently de-spreads the plurality of OCC groups to generate a primary set of least square (LS) estimates. The system (108) redefines the plurality of OCC groups and de-spread the redefined OCC groups to generate a secondary set of LS estimates. The system (108) utilizes the primary set of LS estimates and the secondary set of LS estimates to provide channel estimation.
