Abstract
Disclosed is a copolyester that is suitable, inter alia, as a recyclable alternative to LDPE sealing films. The copolyester is obtainable via a process involving melt-mixing constituent polyesters, followed by a viscosity increasing step of melt polymerization or solid state post-condensation. The constituent polyesters are generally isophthalic acid-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PET-IPA) and a copolyester of at least one aliphatic alpha, omega dicarboxylic acid satisfying the structural formula HO2C(CH2)nCO2H with n being an integer of from 2 to 8 and ethylene glycol,1,3-propanediol or 1,4-butylene glycol, with or without further terephthalic acid. This refers, e.g., to polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT). The copolyester can also be prepared via other routes, such as in connection with PET recycling.
