Abstract
Description
[0001] Applicator for a pressure container comprising a composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam or adhesive
[0002] Technical field
[0003] The subject of the invention is an applicator for a pressure container comprising a composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane (PU) foam or adhesive. The applicator is particularly suitable for dispensing / distributing high-viscosity compositions suitable for forming sealing paste, polyurethane (PU) foam, in particular assembly foam, adhesive or other compositions. The applicator is designed to work with pressure containers, in particular, those with a maletype valve.
[0004] State of the art
[0005] Compositions for forming sealing paste, polyurethane (PU) foam or adhesive are usually reactive or curable. They usually contain at least one active ingredient and are intended for use in, for example, sealing (e.g. sealing paste), filling (e.g. polyurethane foam) or bonding (e.g. single- or two-component adhesive). These compositions are usually cured by contact with moisture or its evaporation.
[0006] These compositions are usually dispensed using various types of applicators.
[0007] The prior art discloses hand-held applicators, usually disposable, which are screwed onto the valve stem of a pressure container and contain a tube / straw through which the composition is delivered to the target location. Such applicators also usually contain a tilting lever that activates the flow of the composition. The container valves for such handheld applicators comprise a threaded stem onto which the applicator is screwed and are referred to as "straw valves". These applicators act on a valve mounted in a pressure container comprising the composition, opening the flow of the composition through the straw valve as a result of tilting the lever.
[0008] Document EP2977333B1 discloses an applicator for dispensing foam contained in a pressure container. The applicator is adapted for connecting with valve stem of the pressure container. The applicator comprises a tubular main body, a part connecting the stem to the applicator body, a straw extending from the connecting part, and a two-part lever consisting of a stationary element attached to the connecting part and a movable element movably connected to the stationary part. The movable part is adapted for connecting to the straw and closing it after the first use of the applicator to protect the applicator from the hardening of foam inside the straw. The applicator can be operated with one hand. However, the disadvantage of this solution is the lack of ergonomics in dispensing such assembly foam.
[0009] Document EP4405274A1 discloses a hand-held applicator for dispensing a composition contained in a pressure container, consisting of a tilting body for mounting on the stem of a tilting valve, wherein said body has a lever surface for actuation by a fingertip and is adapted to open the container valve by pressing the container valve stem into the container by a tilting movement relative to the axis of symmetry of the valve stem as a result of actuation.
[0010] In turn, document EP4310121A1 discloses another mechanical applicator configured for use with a pressure container equipped with a straw valve. The applicator comprises a body comprising a connector for connecting to the pressure container valve assembly, an internal foam path connected to the valve connector, an outlet nozzle connected to the internal foam path, and an actuator for controlling the pressure container valve assembly between the closed and open positions. The outlet nozzle comprises an adjustment rod for precise control of the foam flow.
[0011] Specialised dispensing guns for dispensing the afore-mentioned compositions are also known. Such guns are usually connected to a pressure container by means of a snap-on connection or by screwing the gun onto the thread of an adapter attached to the pressure container valve. Pressure containers designed for use with dispensing guns are equipped with gun valves. Dispensing guns typically feature a needle valve located at the end of the gun barrel, which enablong precise dispensing of the composition. The use of a needle valve also allows the flow of the composition to be shut off, limiting its exposure to the external environment (external atmosphere). This ensures that the composition in the gun barrel remains liquid, extending the usability of the composition after its first use. In the case of a solution using a dispensing gun, the pressure container valve is opened when the gun is connected to the container. The composition itself is dispensed by regulating its flow with the needle valve of the dispensing gun. Users who wish to use this solution and carry out finishing work themselves, such as "do-it-yourself" projects, need to purchase the gun itself, which entails additional costs. There is also a risk that the purchased gun may not fit the pressure containers with the composition, which will prevent them from connecting properly and thus opening the pressure container valve. In addition, the wish to use this solution, requires purchasing not only the gun, but also a cleaner for cleaning the gun when changing pressure containers with the composition, as well as after prolonged non-use of the composition from the pressure container screwed onto the gun. The need to use a cleaner is an additional cost for the user and additional labour associated with the use of specialised spray guns due to the time needed for cleaning, purchasing, and storing them. One must also not forget about the problems associated with the disposal of cleaner packaging and the additional greenhouse gas emissions that increase the carbon footprint.
[0012] There are also applicators that are attached directly to the valves of pressure containers, which are equipped with a tube or straw, similar to the hand-held applicators mentioned above. Such products are ready to use without the need to screw it on the applicator or connect it to the valve in any other way.
[0013] EP3173151B1 discloses a hand-held applicator suitable for containers with a gun valve. The hand-held applicator is adapted for applying the contents of a pressure container and comprises a stationary part for attachment to the pressure container, comprising a composition suitable for forming silicone paste, polyurethane (PU) foam, or adhesive. The stationary part comprises a gripping surface designed to come into contact with the hand and provides a handle for the applicator. The hand-held applicator also comprises an integrated movable part that provides an operating surface enabling at least one finger of the same hand to perform the operation. The movable part, through its movement, provides coupling with the container valve and opening the container valve under the action of pushing down the stem of the container valve into the interior of the container. Additionally, the handheld applicator comprises a cavity for placing an accessory item and a security seal in the form of a cover for closing the cavity for the accessory item. The security seal is broken beforethe first use of the applicator. Document EP3173151B1 also discloses that the hand-held applicator comprises a foam dispensing tube which may be equipped with a closure element for closing the open end of the tube or straw. The securing element can be placed on the straw after the first use of the applicator, allowing the applicator to be reused up to 48 hours after the first use. The drawback of this solution is the inability to change the orientation of the dispensing container, which can be cumbersome when applying the product in hard-to-reach places, as well as adjusting of the flow by pressing a button.
[0014] Similarly, document EP4015411A1 discloses an applicator for a pressure container equipped with a gun valve. The applicator comprises a cap for mounting onto the pressure container above the container valve, wherein the cap comprises an opening for placing a nozzle and a body located around the opening on the first side of the cap. The applicator also comprises a handle for a user. The handle comprises a first and a second handle portion connected to the cap and extending from the opening to the opposite side of the cap. The handle portions are spaced apart and located on opposite sides of the opening on opposite sides of the cap. The first part of the handle is movably connected to the cap for operating the container valve, and the second part of the handle has a substantially fixed position relative to the cap. Between the first and second parts of the handle, there is a lock connected to at least one part of the handle and extending through the space between the parts of the handle to prevent movement of the first part of the handle towards the second part of the handle. The lock is detachable from the first part of the handle and / or the second part of the handle to allow movement of the first part of the handle to operate the container valve during use.
[0015] Document WO2024011282A1 discloses a spray container actuator, and in particular an actuator comprising a lever arm which, when pressed, activates the spray container valve. In the disclosed solution, the actuator requires less force to achieve a specific flow rate of liquid through the spray container nozzle compared to pressing the nozzle directly. The actuator is configured to work with both male and female threaded containers, as well as male and female threaded nozzles. The nozzle actuator comprises a lever arm that extends substantially rearward from the nozzle, wherein the lever arm is configured such that when force is applied to the lever arm in the direction of nozzle pressure, the nozzle is moved inthe same direction as the lever arm, whereby the lever arm thereby provides an elongated surface to which force can be applied. Less force is required to move the nozzle to achieve a specific liquid flow rate when the force is applied via the nozzle actuator than when the force is applied directly to the nozzle. Furthermore, by using a lever arm that can actuate the container nozzle from a location remote from the nozzle, more precise control is possible as the nozzle can be operated using the lever rather than directly with force.
[0016] Document JP2016117519A discloses an injection mechanism enabling continuous injection or fixed-amount injection involving the use of two actuating elements. The injection mechanism disclosed in JP2016117519 comprises a main body, the lower end of which is attached to an aerosol container Y, a spray nozzle, the lower end of which is connected to the outlet of the valve stem, and the tip of which forms a spray nozzle, a first actuating member comprising a button for pressing said spray nozzle, and a second actuating member located behind the first actuating member, of the button-lever type. The second actuating element comprises two extension arms at the front end mounted axially to the main part located on both sides of the nozzle.
[0017] Document JP2OO33O539OA discloses an aerosol product comprising a front wall that rises in a curved manner from the front end of an annular support part. The front wall comprises a hinge part located at the upper end of said front wall. This hinge part is located slightly forward of the centre of the container body. The front end of the working member is pivotally connected to the hinge portion, and the rear end is curved downward to form a trigger. In addition, an auxiliary lever is detachably attached to the trigger, extending downward along the body of the container.
[0018] The solutions described address the issue of ensuring ergonomic application of a composition from a pressure container comprising a composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam or adhesive, however, they do not offer a comprehensive solution ensuring ergonomic operation both when the applicator is used with the valve facing downward and upward. Therefore, there is a need for an applicator for pressure containers, with a valve, with improved ergonomics in the operation of the applicator, which allows operation in any position, including, in particular, the valve facing downwards and upwards. The aim of the invention is to solve the technical problem of providing an ergonomic and ready-to-use applicator for pressure containers, particularly those comprising assembly foams or silicone pastes, enabling the dispensing of compressed liquids at any angle and in any position.
[0019] Brief summary of the invention
[0020] The subject of the invention is an applicator for mounting on a pressure container comprising a composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam adhesive or other composition, and comprising a body adapted to be connected to a pressure container equipped with a valve, wherein the body comprises a support surface for the inner side of the user's hand in the area where the wrist joins the metacarpus.
[0021] The essence of the invention is that the afore-mentioned applicator comprises a first rotarytilting movable part mounted in the body, which comprises a contact surface with the index finger, middle finger, ring finger and / or little finger of the same hand of the user. The first rotatable-tilting movable part is adapted for coupling with the valve of the pressure container and pushing the valve stem into the interior of the pressure container in order to open the valve of the pressure container as a result of rotary-tilting movement of the first rotatable-tilting movable part around the X-axis. The applicator also comprises a second rotary-tilting movable part mounted in the body for coupling with the first rotary-tilting movable part, wherein the second rotary-tilting movable part comprises a contact surface with the thumb or index finger of the same hand of the user.
[0022] Furthermore, the applicator is configured so that acting only on the first rotary-tilting movable part causes only the valve stem of the pressure container to be pushed into the interior of the pressure container, causing the valve to open. In turn, acting on the second rotary-tilting movable part causes it to rotate and tilt around the / -axis, as a result of which the second rotary-tilting movable part acts on the first rotary-tilting movable part, so that the first rotarytilting movable part pushes the valve stem into the pressure container, causing the pressure container valve to open.Preferably, the first rotary-tilting movable part comprises a nozzle for dispensing the composition from the pressure container.
[0023] Preferably, the first rotary-tilting movable part comprises at least one arm which is connected at its distal end to a support element, and the second rotary-tilting movable part comprises at least one support element for resting on at least one arm and / or support element of the first rotary-tilting movable part.
[0024] The applicator preferably comprises a straw for dispensing the composition from the pressure container.
[0025] Preferably, the contact surface with the thumb or index finger of the same hand of the user, of the second rotary-tilting movable part, is substantially located in the upper part of the applicator. This position is more ergonomic and ensures more comfortable operation with the thumb or index finger.
[0026] Preferably, the contact surface with at least one finger of the same hand of the user, the first rotary-tilting movable part, is substantially located opposite the support surface for the inner side of the user's hand. This location ensures a secure grip on the applicator.
[0027] Preferably, the applicator comprises a first lock for protecting against accidental activation of the first rotary-tilting movable part resulting in uncontrolled opening of the valve.
[0028] Preferably, the first lock comprises an opening for receiving a bent section of the straw. Inserting the bent section of the straw in this opening allows for limiting the contact of the composition with the external environment (external atmosphere). This extends the shelf life of the composition contained in the pressure container by up to 2-3 days.
[0029] Preferably, the applicator according to the invention comprises a second lock for protecting against accidental activation of the second rotary-tilting movable part resulting in uncontrolled opening of the valve.
[0030] Preferably, the body comprises a centring sleeve for mounting on the edge of the pressure container. The invention also relates to a pressure container comprising a composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam, adhesive or other composition, comprising a valve and the applicator according to the first aspect of the invention.
[0031] Preferably, the pressure container is equipped with a male-type valve.
[0032] The invention also relates to the use of the applicator according to the first aspect of the invention or the pressure container according to the second aspect of the invention for manually dispensing the composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam, adhesive or other composition from the pressure container. The applicator is suitable for manually dispensing the composition, for example, to fill cavities and cracks, bond materials, create seals, provide thermal and / or acoustic insulation, and / or assemble objects or the like.
[0033] Advantages of the invention
[0034] By using two movable parts, the applicator according to the invention provides high, unprecedented ergonomics of use in various positions, particularly when the applicator is operated with the valve facing downwards or upwards. Depending on the user's preferences, it is possible to dispense foam using the first or second rotary-tilting movable part.
[0035] Positioning of the contact surface with at least one finger of the same hand of the user, located on the first movable part in the upper part of the applicator, is particularly important when the applicator is operated with the valve facing upwards, thus enabling easy and precise application of foams, pastes, adhesives or other compositions in hard-to-reach places, e.g. under the ceiling.
[0036] When the applicator is permanently connected to the valve and the pressure container, the product is ready for use without the need to screw on the applicator or connect it to the valve in any other way. At the same time, the permanent connection of the applicator to the valve further increases the tightness of the product.Description of the drawing figures

[0051] First embodiment of the invention
[0052] An applicator 1 for being attached to a pressure container 30 comprising a composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam, adhesive or other composition.
[0053] The applicator 1 comprises a body 2 which is adapted to be connected to a pressure container 30 equipped with a gun valve 31, wherein the body 2 preferably comprises a centring sleeve 3 for mounting on the rim of the pressure container 31. The body comprises a support surface 4 for the inner side of the user's hand in the area where the wrist joins the metacarpus.
[0054] The applicator 1 comprises a first rotary-tilting movable part 5 mounted in the body 2, which comprises a contact surface 6 with the index finger, middle finger, ring finger and / or little finger of the same hand of the user. The contact surface 6 with the index finger, middle finger, ring finger and / or little finger is substantially located opposite the support surface 4 for the inner side of the user's hand. In other examples, it may be located in another part of the applicator 1, provided that the functionality of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 is maintained.
[0055] The first rotary-tilting movable part 5 is adapted for coupling with valve 31 of pressure container 30 and pushing the valve stem into the interior of pressure container 30 in order to open the pressure container valve as a result of the rotary-tilting movement of the first rotarytilting movable part 5 around axis X. The first rotary-tilting movable part 5 also comprises nozzle 7 for dispensing the composition from container 1. -tilting movable part 5 around the X axis. The first rotary-tilting movable part 5 also comprises a nozzle 7 for dispensing the composition from the pressure container 30, connected to a socket 8 for connecting the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 to the valve 31 of the pressure container 30. The first movable part 5 also comprises arms 9a, 9b, which are connected at their distal end to a support element 10 of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5, below which the socket 8 is located. The arms 9a, 9b are arranged so that the nozzle 7 for dispensing the composition from the pressure container 30 is located between them. In other embodiments ofthe invention, there may be a different number of arms 9a, 9b, including only one arm 9a, 9b. The axis of rotation X of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 is located between the contact surface 6 and the socket 8.
[0056] The applicator 1 also comprises a second rotary-tilting movable part 11 mounted in the body 2 and coupled to the first rotary-tilting movable part 5, wherein the second rotary-tilting movable part 11 comprises a contact surface 12 with the thumb or index finger of the same hand of the user. In this embodiment, surface 12 is located in the upper part of the applicator. In other embodiments, it may be located in another part of the applicator 1, provided that the functionality of the second rotary-tilting movable part 11 is maintained. The second rotary-tilting movable part 11 comprises a support element 13 connected to arms 14a, 14b. The arms 14a, 14b are arranged so that the arms 9a, 9b are located between them, and the support element 10 of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 is located under the support element 13 of the second rotary-tilting movable part 11. The / -axis of rotation of the second rotary-tilting movable part 11 is substantially located at the distal ends of arms 14a, 14b. The rotatable-tiltable movable parts 5, 11 are connected to the body 2 by means of a rotatable-tiltable joint, e.g. in the form of coaxial pins 15, 16, coaxial with the X and Y axes, respectively. In other embodiments, the joint may be made as a perforation, a ribbed structure, a thinning or a flexible material.
[0057] The applicator 1 also comprises a straw 17 for dispensing the composition from the pressure container 30, connected to the nozzle 7 of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5, which can be plugged into the straw holder 18 in the body 2.
[0058] After attaching the applicator 1 to the pressure container 30, with a composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam adhesive or other composition, equipped with a valve 31, preferably a male valve, the first rotary-tilting part of the movable part 5 is coupled to the stem of the valve 31 via the socket 8.
[0059] In order to apply the foam through straw 17 connected to nozzle 7, the user places the applicator 1 together with pressure container 30 in his hand so that that the inner part oftheir hand, located essentially in the area of the connection between the wrist and metacarpal bones, contacts the support surface 4 of the body 2 of the applicator 1, the thumb or index finger substantially lies on the contact surface 12 of the second rotary-tilting movable part 11, and at least one of the other fingers of the same hand of the user is located on the contact surface 6 of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5. Then, in order to dispense the composition from the pressure container, the user must act on the first 5 and / or second rotary-tilting movable part 11.
[0060] When only the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 is actuated by pressing it with the index finger, middle finger, ring finger and / or little finger at the contact surface 6, the movement of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 causes the stem of the valve 31 to be pushed into the interior of the pressure container 30, causing the valve 31 of the pressure container 30 to open and dispensing the composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam, adhesive or other composition from the pressure container 30 through the nozzle 7.
[0061] In turn, when operating the second rotary-tilting movable part 11 by pressing the contact surface 12 of the second rotary-tilting movable part 11 with the thumb or index finger, the rotary-tilting movable parts 5 and 11 are coupled. The rotary-tilting movement of the second rotary-tilting movable part 11 causes the support element 13 of the second rotarytilting movable part 11 to press against the support element 10 and / or the arms 9a, 9b of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5, causing rotary-tilting movement of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5, as a result of which the stem of the valve 31 is pushed into the interior of the pressure container 30, causing the valve 31 of the pressure container 30 to open and dispensing composition for forming a sealing paste, polyurethane foam, adhesive or other composition from the pressure container 30 through the nozzle 7.
[0062] After dispensing the foam, the user releases the first and / or second rotary-tilting movable part, causing the stem of the valve 31 to return to its initial position, which results in the closure of the valve 31.The described solution, according to the invention, increases the comfort and ergonomics of use of the applicator. Furthermore, it allows the foam to be applied with the valve facing upwards or downwards.
[0063] It is also possible to apply simultaneous pressure to both rotary-tilting movable parts, which facilitates foam dispensing in situations where it is difficult for the user to press one of the movable parts, for example due to weak fingers or a smaller hand.
[0064] Second embodiment of the invention
[0065] The applicator 1 as in the first embodiment, with the difference that it comprises a first lock 19 for protecting against accidental activation of the first rotary-tilting movable part 5, resulting in uncontrolled opening of the valve 31. The first lock 19 is in the form of a detachable stop attached to the first rotary-tilting movable part 5. The stop comprises a base 20 connected to the first rotary-tilting movable part 5. The base 20 prevents the movement of the first rotarytilting movable part 5 into the interior of the applicator 1. A thinning is used at the connection of the first lock 19 and the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 for allowing the stop to be teared off the first rotary-tilting movable part 5. It is possible to use other elements allowing for tearing off the stop from the first rotary-tilting movable part 5, such as perforation. It is also possible to connect the first lock to the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 in a detachable manner, allowing the first rotary-tilting movable part 5 to be secured again against uncontrolled operation. The stop also comprises an arm 21, which acts as a lever to facilitate its detachment.
[0066] In other embodiments, the first lock 19 may be equipped with a plug for the straw 17.
[0067] Third embodiment of the invention
[0068] Applicator 1 as in the second embodiment, with the difference that the first lock 19, in the form of a detachable stop attached to the first rotary-tilting movable part 5, comprises an opening 22 which is adapted to receive a bent section of the straw 17. Inserting the bent section of the straw 17 into the opening 22 allows for limiting the contact of the composition with the external environment (external atmosphere). This extends the shelf life ofthe composition contained in the pressure container 30 by up to 2-3 days. In this embodiment, the opening 22 is located in the arm 21 of the detachable stop. In another embodiment, it may be located in another part of the stop, for example in the base 20.
[0069] Fourth embodiment of the invention
[0070] Applicator 1 as in the previous embodiments, with the difference that it comprises a second lock 23 for protecting against accidental activation of the second rotary-tilting movable part 11, resulting in uncontrolled opening of the valve 31. The second lock 2323 for protecting against accidental opening of valve 31 takes the form of a cover located in body 2, covering the second rotary-tilting movable part 11 from the side of the contact surface 12.
