treating with a preformed reaction product of a catechol compound and a functionalized co-reactant compound

By using pre-formed reaction products of catechol compounds and co-reacting compounds to contact the surface of a metal substrate to form a sealing layer, the problem of slow polydopamine polymerization speed is solved, and the corrosion resistance of the metal substrate surface is rapidly improved.

Abstract

The corrosion resistance of converted coated metal substrate surfaces can be further improved by treating the surfaces with an aqueous mixture of a preformed reaction product obtained by reacting a catechol compound (e.g., dopamine or a salt of dopamine) with a functionalized co-reacting compound (e.g., polyethyleneimine).
