Abstract

The present invention relates to an antimicrobial composition for treating a foodborne illness comprising a combination of a polar extract of Jamaica (hibiscus) with a broad-spectrum antibiotic and at least one additive agent. Mixtures of the compounds in the formulations at specific concentrations exhibit an antimicrobial and protective effect against antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
