[0046] In some example embodiments, a link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the network device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the terminal device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the  network device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0047] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0048] The terminal devices 110 and networks 120 in the communication environment 100 may be operated as a radio access network (RAN) , and the communication environment 100 may also involve a core network (CN) which includes one or more core network functions including but are not limited to, a location management function (LMF) .

[0049] Supporting various positioning methods for providing reliable and accurate UE location has always been one of the key features of the communication systems. It has been agreed to investigate the potential for AI / ML in air interface to enhance comprehensive performance in 5G-advanced. An AI / ML-based mechanism to improve the positioning accuracy is one of the use cases to apply AI / ML in air interface.

[0050] The process of collecting data for model training and monitoring is a crucial step in supporting AI / ML-based positioning. Moreover, reliability of collected ground-truth label highly impacts the accuracy of model inference, such as UE location, timing estimation, or non-line of slight (NLOS)  / line of sight (LOS) . Having accurate ground truth labels is crucial for training AI / ML models effectively. Errors or inaccuracies in the ground truth labels can lead to the model learning incorrect patterns and making inaccurate predictions. Therefore, creating a high-quality labeled dataset with reliable ground truth labels is a fundamental step in the model training stage. Furthermore, the choice of measurement type is also critical for model inference. If the quality of the ground-truth label can be indicated by the label generating entity, the performance of model training and model monitoring can be significantly improved.

[0051] In some embodiments, the AI / ML-based positioning accuracy enhancement may include direct AI / ML positioning and AI / ML assisted positioning. Thus, an AI / ML model for positioning of a terminal device may be a direct AI / ML positioning model or an AI / ML assisted positioning model. The former requires the input from the measurement of both multiple network devices and single network device, while the latter only requires the input from the measurement of multiple network devices. FIG. 2A and FIG. 2B illustrates examples of application of an AI / ML model for positioning of a terminal device. In the example of FIG. 2A, the measurement of a single network device 120-1 is input to an AI / ML model 210 for assisted positioning, and the output of the AI / ML model 210 is an intermediate measurement for determining a location of a terminal device. In the example of FIG. 2B, measurements collected from multiple network devices 120-1, 120-2, 120-3 can be input to an AI / ML model 220 which is either configured to output an intermediate measurement or a location of a terminal device. An input to the AI / ML model may include a measurement collected by a terminal device, or related information processed from the collected measurement. The input may be collected by transmitting a reference signal, such as a positioning reference signal (PRS) , a sounding reference signal (SRS) , or a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) over the channel between the terminal device and the network device.

[0052] In some embodiments, an input to the direct AI / ML positioning model may comprise measurement information related to a channel between a terminal device and a network device, such as Channel Impulse Response (CIR) , power and delay (timing) of (PDP) , delay timing of path (DP) , reference signal reference power (RSRP) , PRSR path (RSRPP) , reference signal time difference (RSTD) , etc. The type of measurement (s) as model inference input may be based on the performance impact and associated signaling overhead. An output of the direct AI / ML positioning model may comprise a location of the terminal device.

[0053] In some embodiments, an input to the AI / ML assisted positioning model may be similar to or different from that of the direct AI / ML positioning model. The AI / ML assisted positioning may include UE-assisted positioning and / or network assisted positioning, such as NG-RAN node assisted positioning. In some embodiments, the input to the AI / ML assisted positioning model may include time of arrival (TOA) , the path loss, RSTD, NLOS / LOS indicator of a channel, RSRPP, soft information or high resolution of RSTD, etc. An output of the AI / ML assisted positioning model may comprise an  intermediate measurement which can be used to determine or assisted in determining a location of a terminal device 110. For assisted AI / ML positioning with UE-assisted and NG-RAN node assisted positioning, at least the following types of model inference output are identified, including the NLOS / LOS indicator, and time estimation information such as a time difference relative to a reference time, soft information report, DL time difference of arrival (DL-TDOA) , round-trip-time (RTT) between the terminal device and the network device, and UL relative time of arrival (UL-RTOA) .

[0054] Data collection is a critical process to train an AI / ML model using for positioning accuracy. The collected data includes channel observations such as CIR, PDP, DP along with their corresponding ground-truth labels. The channel observations is a measurement via UL / DL positioning reference signaling. The ground-truth is collected using the UE with known locations (e.g., PRU) or other radio access technology (RAT) -dependent or RAT-independent methods. The measurements corresponding to the model input are reported by one or more measurement data generation entity, which may be one or more of terminal devices, positioning reference units (PRU) , transmission-reception points (TRPs) , or other devices.

[0055] Ground-truth labels for the collected measurements are also generated and reported, in order to train, fine-tune, or monitor the positioning-based AI / ML models. A ground-truth label for a measurement to an AI / ML model has a same type of a model output of the AI / ML model, to indicate a ground-truth output that the model should generate for the measurement. For example, for the AI / ML assisted positioning model, a ground-truth label may indicate a ground-truth intermediate measurement, such as a NLOS / LOS indicator, or time estimation information. For direct AI / ML positioning, a ground-truth label may indicate a ground-truth location of a terminal device. The ground-truth labels are reported by one or more label data generation entities, which may be one or more of terminal devices, PRU, TRPs, or other devices. A label data generation entity may also be a measurement data generation entity, or the label data generation entities and the measurement data generation entities may be different.

[0056] For both of the sub use cases of AI / ML assisted positioning and direct AI / ML positioning, the reliability of ground-truth label has a significant impact on training and monitoring the model. Ground-truth label with error can impact the positioning accuracy of AI / ML model. If the ground-truth labels are not accurately labeled, the AI / ML model trained based on that dataset may produce the results, but their reliability is doubtful. The  quality indicator can help evaluate the quality of training data, giving model developers the flexibility to choose the data that meets specific requirements for training the target AI / ML model. Further, using unreliably ground-truth labels, the AI / ML model monitoring based on the dataset is doubtful. The quality indicator can be used to accurately to monitor and flag the model’s performance, and if necessary, send this information to the lifecycle management (LCM) entity of the AI / ML models if necessary. Based on this information, the LCM entity can make better monitoring decisions.

[0057] To enhance the quality of ground-truth labels, it is necessary to indicate UE to report label quality indicators. Optionally, indicating the criteria for label filtering to discard the training samples with low-confidence labels can be beneficial. However, there lacks the quality indicator of label configuration, report, and determination mechanism in the current AI / ML based positioning procedure.

[0058] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, there is proposed a solution for label quality indication. In this solution, a first communication device, which is configured for ground-truth label generation, determines a set of quality indicators for the set of ground-truth labels, a quality indicator corresponding to at least one of the set of ground-truth labels and indicating a reliability of the at least one ground-truth label. The first communication device transmits, to a second communication device, the set of ground-truth labels and at least one quality indicator within the set of quality indicators.

[0059] Through this solution, by indicating the quality of the generated ground-truth labels, the entity which utilizes the ground-truth labels can decide whether and / or how to use the ground-truth labels in an appropriate way. As a result, the results of model training, fine-tuning and / or monitoring of an AI / ML model can be guaranteed with high quality ground-truth labels, and the AI / ML model-based positioning accuracy can thus be improved.

[0060] Reference is made to FIG. 3, which illustrates a signaling flow 300 of communications in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 300 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using a first communication device 301 and a second communication device 302.

[0061] In the signaling flow 300, it is assumed that the first communication device 301 is an entity responsible for ground-truth label generation, and the second communication device 302 is an entity responsible for data collection (e.g., collecting ground-truth labels and / or  measurements for AI / ML models) . In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 may comprise a first terminal device (e.g., a terminal device 110 in FIG. 1) or a positioning reference unit (PRU) . In some embodiments, the second communication device 302 may comprise a second terminal device (e.g., a terminal device 110 in FIG. 1) or a network device in the RAN (e.g., a network device 120 in FIG. 1) or in CN (e.g., LMF) . It would be appreciate that although one first communication device 301 is illustrated in FIG. 3, there may be more than one first communication devices in a communication environment which operate in similar way as will be discussed below with reference to the first communication device 301. Although one second communication device 302 is illustrated in FIG. 3, there may be more than one second communication devices in a communication environment which operate in similar way as will be discussed below with reference to the second communication device 302.

[0062] In the signalling flow 300, the first communication device 301 determines (315) a set of ground-truth labels for a set of measurements. A measurement or related information processed from the measurement is used as an input to an artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI / ML) model that is configured for direct positioning or assisted positioning of a terminal device. An AI / ML model for direct positioning is also referred to as a direct AI / ML positioning model. An AI / ML model for assisted positioning is also referred to as an AI / ML assisted positioning model. A ground-truth label for a measurement is in a form of an output of the AI / ML model, to indicate the ground-truth output that the AI / ML model is supposed to generate for the corresponding measurement. Thus, for a direct AI / ML positioning model, the ground-truth label indicates a location of a terminal device, and for an AI / ML assisted positioning model, the ground-truth label indicates an intermediate measurement which can be used to determine or assisted in determining a location of a terminal device.

[0063] Further, the first communication device 301 determines (320) a set of quality indicators for the set of ground-truth labels, a quality indicator corresponding to at least one of the set of ground-truth labels and indicating a reliability of the at least one ground-truth label. The quality indicators can thus be used to indicate qualities of the reported ground-truth labels.

[0064] In some embodiments, the second communication device 302 may transmit (305) a request for ground-truth generation and / or signaling related to quality indicator generation to the first communication device 301. The signaling related to quality indicator generation (represented as “InitiateLabelGeneration” ) indicates whether quality indicator generation is enabled or disabled. The request may be transmitted in a same message with the signaling, or the request and the signaling may be transmitted in separate messages.

[0065] In some embodiments, upon receiving (310) of the request for ground-truth generation from the second communication device 302, the first communication device 301 then determines the set of ground-truth labels for the set of measurements. In some embodiments, upon receiving (310) of the signaling related to quality indicator generation, the first communication device 301 may determine whether signaling indicates that the quality indicator generation is enabled is disabled. If the signaling indicates that the quality indicator generation is enabled, the first communication device 301 may determine the set of quality indicators for the set of ground-truth labels. If the signaling indicates that the quality indicator generation is disabled, the first communication device 301 may not generate the set of quality indicators.

[0066] For direct AI / ML positioning, the ground-truth label indicates a location of a terminal device. In some embodiments, if the ground-truth label is generated at a terminal device side (e.g., the first communication device 301 is a terminal device) , the quality indicator is identified at the terminal device side and may be requested from a different entity, e.g., the data collection entity. In some embodiments, as an alternative, if the ground-truth label is generated at the network device side (e.g., the first communication device 301 is a network device) , the quality indicator may be identified by a LMF side and requested from a different entity rather than the LMF, e.g., the data collection entity.

[0067] For AI / ML assisted positioning, the ground-truth label may at least contain timing estimation and the LOS / NLOS indicator. In some embodiments, if the ground-truth label is generated at UE side, the quality indicator is identified at the UE side and may be requested from a different entity, e.g., the data collection entity. In some embodiments, as an alternative, if the ground-truth label is generated at the network side, the quality indicator is identified at the LMF side and may be requested from different entity rather than the LMF, e.g., the data collection entity.

[0068] In some embodiments, a network device may configure different quality indicator parameters for the model training and model monitoring.

[0069] The first communication device 301 transmits (325) , to a second communication device 302, the set of ground-truth labels and at least one quality indicator within the set of quality indicators. The second communication device 302 receives (330) the set of ground-truth labels and at least one quality indicator within the set of quality indicators.

[0070] In some embodiments, there is a one-to-one mapping between the ground-truth  labels and the quality indicators. That is, the first communication device 301 may generate a quality indicator for each corresponding collected ground-truth label, i.e., either UE positioning for direct AI / ML positioning or timing estimation or LOS / NLOS indicator for AI / ML assisted positioning. Each quality indicator to be reported corresponds to one ground-truth label within the set of collected ground-truth labels.

[0071] In some embodiments, a quality indicator is determined as a value within a predetermined range, the predetermined range being divided by a uniform step size. For example, the quality indicator is provided in the range between 0 and 1 with a resolution of 0.1. The value ‘0’ indicates the corresponding ground-truth label is fully unreliable and the value ‘1’ indicates the corresponding ground-truth label is fully reliable. Two examples of quality indicators generated in this way are provided below in Table 1 and Table 2, one for directed positioning and the other one for assisted positioning. Thus the ground-truth label in Table 1 indicates a location of a terminal device by indicating the latitude, longitude, altitude of the location, and the ground-truth label in Table 2 indicate timing estimation information e.g., RSTD.

[0072] Table 1

[0073] Table 2

[0074] To report the quality indicators in the one-to-one mapping by mapping the e quality indicators into the range with uniform steps, this is a simple way to identify the quality indictors and the corresponding ground-truth label in the reception device, i.e., the second communication device 302.

[0075] In some embodiments, in order to reduce the data overhead (when the number of ground-truth labels is large) caused in the way above, it is proposed to determine, from the set of quality indicators, at least one quality indicator that indicates a reliability exceeding a reliability threshold. The first communication device 301 transmits, to the second communication device 302, the at least one quality indicator with reliability exceeding a reliability threshold and at least one corresponding ground-truth label. In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 may map the at least one determined quality indicator into at least one bit value with a predetermined bitlength; and then transmit the at least one bit value to the second communication device 302.

[0076] The reliability threshold represents a lower bound reliability of reported ground-truth labels and the predetermined bitlength represents the granularity of quality indicators for the ground-truth reported label. In other words, the reliability threshold represents a threshold that only if the reliability of a ground-truth label is higher than the threshold, the first communication device 301 will transfer the ground-truth label to the other entity; otherwise the first communication device 301 does not transfer the ground-truth label. In this way, a limited number of ground-truth labels and quality indicators are communicated, reducing the data overhead.

[0077] In some embodiments, the reliability threshold (represented as “level” ) and / or the predetermined bitlength (represented as “bitlength” ) may be configured by the second communication device 302. For example, for the case where a network device is responsible for data collection and a terminal device is responsible for generation of label (the second communication device 302 is a network device and the first communication device 301 is a terminal device) , the network device may optionally configure the  parameters level and / or bitlength to the terminal device. The configuration may be configured in the request for ground-truth label generation and / or the signaling related to quality indicator generation. In some other embodiments, the reliability threshold and / or the predetermined bitlength may be prespecified at the first communication device 301 or may be indicated to the first communication device 301 in other suitable ways.

[0078] For example, if a total of four levels of reliability (represented as level-1, level-2, level-3, level-3) for quality indicators are supported and the network device configures a parameter indicating level-3 and a bitlength of 2 for quality indicators, the reliability lower than level-3 will not be transferred to the network device side, and the bit value can be regarding as an index that represent different reliability range with the bitlength of 2. A specific bit value represents a quality indicator of a reported ground-truth label. Table 3 shows the definition of the four levels of reliability for quality indicators. If level-3 and a bitlength of 2 are configured by the network device, the mapping between all the four bit values (00, 01, 10, 11) and the reliabilities indicated by the quality indicators is provided in Table 4. In Table 3 and Table 4, a reliability of “0%” indicates the corresponding ground-truth label is fully unreliable and a reliability of ‘100%’ indicates the corresponding ground-truth label is fully reliable.

[0079] Table 3

[0080] Table 4

[0081] By reporting ground-truth labels and quality indicators with reliabilities higher than the threshold, the ground-truth e label with low reliability will be discarded at the first communication device side, to avoid useless transmission to the second communication device side. Moreover, precise quality indicators can be provided by a large bitlength.

[0082] In some embodiments, there is a one-to-multiple mapping between the ground-truth labels and the quality indicators. Each quality indicator to be reported corresponds to a plurality of ground-truth labels within the set of ground-truth labels. The first communication device 301 may thus determine or generate a quality indicator for several corresponding collected ground-truth labels. The quality indicator may be identified and represented in either of the two ways as discussed above, e.g., by mapping a quality indicator as a value from a range with uniform steps, or by configuring the reliability threshold and the bitlength to instruct the first communication device 301 to drop the ground-truth labels with reliabilities lower than the configured threshold.

[0083] FIG. 4 illustrates an example of time-window-based quality indicator reporting in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, locations of a terminal device 110 change from Point 1, to Point 2, and then Point 3. At the three points, the terminal device 110 determines three ground-truth labels at SRS Instance 1, SRS Instance 2, and SRS Instance 3, respectively, within a time window 402. In this example, the terminal device 110 generates one quality indicator for the ground-truth labels within the time window 402.

[0084] Since a quality indicator corresponds to a plurality of corresponding collected ground-truth labels, the mapping relationship between the quality indicator and the several ground-truth labels. In some embodiments related to the one-to-multiple mapping, the plurality of ground-truth labels for each quality indicator are determined within the same time window. Since the locations calculated at UE / LMF side or the timing / LOS / NLOS estimated at UE / network device side within a timing duration are similar, it is reasonable to combine the labels within the time duration to a same quality indicator. Thus, the  UE / network device can map the one quality indicator to several ground-truth labels within the same time window.

[0085] In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 may receive, from the second communication device 302 (e.g., the network device) , first information indicating at least one time window for determining the at least one quality indicator. One quality indicator may be generated for one time window. In some embodiments, the time window (s) may be indicated by the second communication device 302 in association with the request for ground-truth label generation and / or the signaling related to quality indicator generation. In some embodiments, a time window may be configured in a way with a first subframe number as a start point and a second subframe number as end point relative to a predetermined system frame number (e.g., SFN 0) . In some embodiments, a time window may be configured with a start point and a time duration.

[0086] Two examples of quality indicators reported in this way are provided below in Table 5 and Table 6, one for directed positioning and the other one for assisted positioning. In this way, although with the precision of quality indicators for some individual labels, signaling overhead of quality indicator will be overcame by combining multiple ground-truth labels to a single quality indicator.

[0087] Table 5

[0088] Table 6

[0089] In the examples of Table 5 and Table 6, the timestamps of label-1 and label-2 are in a same time windows, the timestamps of label-3, label-4 and label-5 are in a same time windows, and the last quality indicator represents the quality of individual label-n.

[0090] In some embodiments related to the one-to-multiple mapping, the first communication device 301 may map the one quality indicator to one or more fixed quantities for the ground-truth labels, where the quantity is indicated by the network device in association with the request for ground-truth label generation and / or the signaling related to quality indicator generation. In such a way, each quality indicator corresponds to a fixed quantity (number) of ground-truth labels. The first communication device 301 may map the fixed quantity of ground-truth labels to a quality indicator in an order of time when the ground-truth labels are collected. In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 may receive, from the second communication device 302 (e.g., the network device) , second information indicating the fixed quantity to be reported by the first communication device 301.

[0091] Two examples of quality indicators reported in this way are provided below in Table 7 and Table 8, one for directed positioning and the other one for assisted positioning. In the examples, the fixed quantity is three, and the ground-truth labels label-1, label-2, label-3, …, label-n are collected sequentially in time.

[0092] Table 7

[0093] Table 8

[0094] In this way, although with the precision of quality indicators for some individual labels, the signaling overhead of quality indicators can be overcame by combining multiple ground-truth labels to a single quality indicator. Moreover, it is sample from the signaling and implementation perspective.

[0095] In some embodiments, the label generation entity (the first communication device 301) can transfer the ground-truth labels and associating quality indicator at the occasions configured by the network device. The first communication device 301 may transmit, to the second communication device 302, the at least one quality indicator and the set of ground-truth labels at an occasion configured by a network device. In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 may trigger the transferring in the  allocated resource once the quality indicator meets the requirement, e.g., with a reliability higher than a threshold.

[0096] In some cases, the determination of ground-truth label may be implemented by the label generation entity, e.g., the terminal device / network device / LMF. However, the quality determination is a relatively complex and multidimensional concepts comparing with LOS / NLOS indicator. For example, the determination of label quality is impacted by the collected type of location. If the different terminal devices from different terminal vendors use different mechanism to determine the quality of a label, the high reliability AI / ML model for positioning is no easy to train in network device side when the training data source from multiple terminal devices. This, for AI / ML assisted positioning, to determine the quality indicator, it may be specified how to determine the actual timing estimation information if the terminal device is not capability with UE based positioning. For direct AI / ML positioning, to determine the quality indicator, it needs to specific whether the actual location using for determining the quality of label is provided by PRU or non PRU, or whether the actual location of the terminal device contain altitude or not.

[0097] In some embodiments, for AI / ML assisted positioning, if the AI / ML model is to estimate TDOA, a quality indicator for a ground-truth label may be determined by comparing the measured TOA and timing advance (TA) once the TA is updated by the network device. For a terminal device without capability of calculation its positioning (UE based positioning) , it may be difficult to quantify the quality indicator by comparing the collecting label and the actual value. Still, the TA difference from two cells can be used to assist the terminal device to determine the actual TDOA (which is also represented by RSTD) .

[0098] As shown in an example 500 of FIG. 5, it is supposed that a terminal device 110-1 at point 1 in cell 102-1 receives a timing advance command (TAC) , through radon access response (RAR) TAC or medium access control (MAC) CE, and adjusts the TA to a value TA1. After the terminal device 110-1 moves to point 2 in cell 102-2, it may adjusts TA to a value TA2 based on TAC received in cell 102-2. In this case, if a ground-truth label in the set of ground-truth labels at least indicates TDOA between a first cell (e.g., cell 102-1) and a second cell (e.g., cell 102-2) , the first communication device 301 may determine a first TA (e.g., TA1) for the first communication device 301 at a first positioning point (e.g., point 1) within the first cell and a second TA (e.g., TA2) for the first communication device 301 at a second positioning point (e.g., point 2) within the second cell, the first  communication device 301 switching from the first cell to the second cell. The first communication device 301 may further determine an actual TDOA based on a different between the second TA and the first TA and a compensation time. In some embodiments, determine the actual TDOA as a half of a result of the second TA minus the first TA minus the compensation time, which may be formulated as follows:

[0099] where e is the compensated time between point 1 and point 2.

[0100] In some embodiments, the compensation time may be determined based on a distance between the first positioning point and the second positioning point. In an example, a simple way to identify the e is light propagation time from point 1 to point 2. The closer the distance between point 1 and point 2 is, the smaller the error of e is. In order to accurately identify the value of e, in some embodiments, the first positioning point is a last positioning point within the first cell where the first communication device 301 receives information for determining the first TA, and the second positioning point is the first positioning point within the second cell where the first communication device 301 receives information for determining the second TA. That is, the point 1 may be the last point within cell 102-1 receiving TAC (by MAC CE) and the point 2 should be the first point receiving TAC (by RAR TAC) within cell 102-2.

[0101] With the actual TDOA determined, the first communication device 301 may determine a first quality indicator for a first ground-truth label by comparing the actual TDOA and a TDOA indicated by the first ground-truth label, the first ground-truth label being determined for the second positioning point. For example, if a difference between the TDOA indicated by the first ground-truth label and the actual TDOA is relatively large, then the first quality indicator may be determined to indicate that the reliability of the first ground-truth label is low. For each of the ground-truth labels indicating TDOA, the quality indicators may be determined in a similar way.

[0102] In some embodiments, for AI / ML assisted positioning, if the AI / ML model is to estimate TOA, a ground-truth label in the set of ground-truth labels at least indicates TOA for the first communication device 301 within a second cell (e.g., cell 102-2 in FIG. 5) . In this case, the first communication device 301 may determine a second TA (TA2) for the first communication device 301 within the second cell, and then determine, based on  the second TA, an actual TOA for the first communication device 301 within the second cell. In some examples, the first communication device 301 may determine the actual TOA as a half of on the second TA, which may be formulated as follows:

[0103] With the actual TOA determined, the first communication device 301 may further determine a second quality indicator for the second ground-truth label by comparing the actual TOA and a TOA indicated by the second ground-truth label, the second ground-truth label being determined for a positioning point of the first communication device 301 within the second cell. For example, if a difference between the TOA indicated by the second ground-truth label and the actual TOA is relatively large, then the second quality indicator may be determined to indicate that the reliability of the second ground-truth label is low. For each of the ground-truth labels indicating TOA, the quality indicators may be determined in a similar way.

[0104] In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 may receive, from the second communication device 302, at least one of the first TA and the second TA together with signaling indicating that quality indicator generation is enabled. For example, if the network device requests the terminal device (or even PRU) , to generate the ground-truth label with enabling the quality indicator by a specified signaling, e.g., InitiateLabelGeneration, the network device provide the TA value to the terminal device. In some embodiments, in accordance with a reception of signaling indicating that quality indicator generation is enabled from the second communication device 302, the first communication device 301 may transmit, to a network device, a request for updating a TA within at least one of the first cell and the second cell. For example, if a terminal device is requested to generate the ground-truth labels with attaching the quality indicators, the terminal device may reports an invalid TA indicator, regardless the TA timer and RSRP-change threshold conditions, by UL transmission to update the TA. In this way, the first communication device 301 can precisely and timely indicate the quality of the ground-truth labels.

[0105] In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 report the related information to assist the second communication device 302 to determine the quality of the ground-truth label. Specifically, the first communication device 301 may transmit, to the second communication device 302, the set of ground-truth labels and TA related  information if signaling from the second communication device 302 indicates that quality indicator generation is enabled. The TA related information at least indicates at least one of the first TA and the second TA, or indicates a timestamp for each of the set of ground-truth labels, the timestamp being used by the second communication device 302 to identify at least one of the first TA and the second TA. For example, if a terminal device is requested to generate the ground-truth labels with enabling the quality indicators, the terminal device may report the collected ground-truth labels with the corresponding TA, e.g., the ground-truth label set and a corresponding TAC. In this way, additional overhead or label report will be saved by mapping multiple labels to one TAC related information. In some other examples, the terminal device may report each timestamp of a ground-truth label to the network device.

[0106] A location of a terminal device may be indicated as a two-dimensional (2D) location, by indicating the latitude and longitude of the location, or may be indicated as a three-dimensional (3D) location, by indicating the latitude longitude, altitude of the location. In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 may report an indicator about whether the quality of the ground-truth label (s) is determined with considering the latitude of a terminal device. In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 may report an indicator about whether the quality of the ground-truth label (s) is determined based on a PRU device or non-PRU device.

[0107] In some embodiments, an additional one bit may be reported by the first communication device 301 in association with a quality indicator. For example, a bit value is ‘1’ represents the quality indicator is determined with respect to a 2D location, thus the corresponding ground-truth label (s) cannot be used to train or monitor an AI / ML model that is used to infer a 3D location of a terminal device.

[0108] In some embodiments, an additional one bit is reported by the first communication device 301 in association with a quality indicator. For example, a bit value is ‘1’ represents the quality indicator of the label with high priority, and thus the ground-truth label with a high quality is prioritized to train or monitor the AI / ML model. Conversely, a bit value is ‘0’ represents the quality indicator of the ground-truth label with low priority, and thus the label, even with the same quality comparing with the high priority quality, is deprioritized to train or monitor the AI / ML model. For example, in some cases, a location source from the PRU is most reliability than other methods like RAT-dependent or RAT-independent ways, thus the label with high quality determined  by quantifying between the label and the actual location from PRU should be prioritized to model training / monitoring.

[0109] In some embodiments, the AI / ML model is configured for assisted positioning, and the first communication device 301 may determine a quality indicator for a ground-truth label based on a difference between timing estimation information for a terminal device indicated by the ground-truth label and actual timing estimation information for the terminal device. As an example, for AI / ML assisted positioning with timing estimation as model output, the reliability r of collect ground-truth label may be identified as follows:

[0110] where collected label represents a collected ground-truth label, actual timing represents actual timing estimation information for the terminal device.

[0111] In some embodiments, the AI / ML model is configured for direct positioning, and the first communication device 301 may determine a quality indicator for a ground-truth label based on a distance between a location of a terminal device indicated by the ground-truth label and an actual location of the terminal device. In some examples, the quality indicator may be calculated by normalizing the distance by an allowed maximal error distance. The reliability r of collect ground-truth label may be identified as follows:

[0112] where collected label represents a collected ground-truth label, actual positioning represents the actual location of the terminal device, d (x, y) is a metric to judge the distance between location x and location y, like Euclidean metric, and maxAllowedErrorDis represents the allowed maximal error distance.

[0113] In some examples, the reliability r and the quality indicator Q can map as follows:

[0114] Table 9

[0115] In some cases, it is important to include other indications such as measurement type and format. Specifically, the measurement type indicates what kind of information should be measured for positioning, such as CIR or PDP. Measurement format indicates the number of time-domain samples of CIR, the arrangement of CIRs of different TRPs, and other possible pre-processing. The evaluation has shown that CIR as model input has better inference accuracy than PDP and DP for both direct AI / ML positioning and AI / ML assisted positioning, while more overhead will be caused when consider data transferring. Therefore, it is preferable to indicate the type of measurement from network device to UE when the measurement is collected at the terminal side. For example, for highly positioning reliable model, CIR is assigned as input for training / monitoring the model.

[0116] In some embodiments, it is assumed that the first communication device 301 is also configured to collect measurement. The second communication device 302 may transmit a measurement indicator indicating a type of measurements to be collected to the first communication device. For example, the second communication device 302 may requests the first communication device 301 to generate the measurements through specified signaling, e.g., InitiateMeasurementlGeneration, which contains the type of measurement e.g., TypeofMeasurement signaling. For example, TypeA represents CIP, TypeB represents PDP, and TypeC represents DP, and the like. Upon reception of the measurement indicator, the first communication device 301 may collect the set of measurements with the indicated type, and transmit the set of measurements to the second communication device 302.

[0117] FIG. 6 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 600 implemented at a first communication device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 600 will be described from the perspective of the first communication device 301 in FIG. 3.
