[0043] In order to perform the DL NCJT for UE, CSI report for NCJT is designed in 5G, wherein Only 2 TRPs can be used. Accordingly in 6G, more than 2 TRPs can be used for NCJT. In this case, NCJT CSI corresponding to different number of TRPs can be reported for different NCJT schemes. However, the overhead of NCJT CSI for different NCJT schemes can be an issue if NCJT CSI is reported for each NCJT scheme.

[0044] In 5G specification, there are two modes for CSI report considering NCJT scheme where only two TRPs can support NCJT. The UE can be configured with two RS resource sets and a set of RS pairs for NCJT transmission. In Mode 1, the UE reports a total of X+1 CSI reports, where one report corresponds to NCJT CSI and the remaining X reports (where X = 0, 1, or 2) correspond to single TRP CSI. In Mode 2, the UE reports one CSI which is either NCJT CSI or single TRP CSI.

[0045] In 5G, one NCJT CSI may include a CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) , one channel quality indicator (CQI) , a rank combination of 2 rank indicators (RIs) , 2 Layer indicator (LIs) if configured to report, and 2 precoding matrix indicators (PMIs) . The valid rank combinations for NCJT in 5G includes (1, 1) , (1, 2) , (2, 1) and (2, 2) . 2 RIs indicates the number of layers from 2 TRPs, 2 PMIs correspond to 2 TRPs, and 2 LIs correspond to 2 phase tracking reference signals (PT-RSs) in NCJT DL transmission where each PT-RS corresponds to one of 2 TRPs.

[0046] For a rank combination (ν1, ν2) , the first LI indicates which column of the precoder matrix of the first reported PMI corresponds to the strongest of the first ν1 layers of the codeword and the second LI indicates which column of the precoder matrix of the second reported PMI corresponds to the strongest of the last ν2 layers of the codeword.

[0047] If 3-TRP NCJT or 4-TRP NCJT is supported in 6G, then for a 3-TRP scenario, one NCJT CSI may include one CQI for 1 transport block (TB) or two CQIs for 2 TBs, 3 RIs, 3 LIs (if reported) , 3 PMIs. 3 RIs indicate the number of layers from 3 TRPs. 3 PMIs correspond to 3 TRPs, and 3 LIs correspond to 3 PT-RSs in NCJT DL transmission where each PT-RS corresponds to one of 3 TRPs. For a 4-TRP scenario, one NCJT CSI may include one CQI for 1 TB or two CQIs for 2 TBs, 4 RIs, 4 LIs (if reported) , 4 PMIs. 4 RIs indicate the number of layers from 4 TRPs. 4 PMIs correspond to 4 TRPs, and 4 LI correspond to 4 PT-RSs in NCJT DL transmission where each PT-RS corresponds to one of 4 TRPs.

[0048] If extending CSI report Mode 1 in 5G, then for 4-TRP scenario, one NCJT CSI with 2 TRPs, one NCJT CSI with 3 TRPs and one NCJT CSI with 4 TRPs and X (X=0, 1, 2, 3, 4) CSI with single TRP will be reported. Obviously, the overhead is much larger compared to 5G.

[0049] If extending CSI report Mode 2 in 5G, then for 4-TRP scenario, one CSI which can be any of one NCJT CSI with 2 TRPs, one NCJT CSI with 3 TRPs, one NCJT CSI with 4 TRPs and one CSI with single TRP which is determined by UE will be reported. Although the overhead of Mode 2 is not remarkable, however, the performance may be decreased significantly since only one CSI is reported for 4 potential transmission schemes.

[0050] In this disclosure, solutions to report NCJT CSI for different NCJT schemes with reduced overhead are proposed. UE may report NCJT CSI by reporting a whole NCJT CSI corresponding to a number M of TRPs and parts of NCJT CSI corresponding to 2 to M-1 TRPs where the network (NW) can reconstruct one NCJT CSI corresponding to 2 to M-1 TRPs. Therefore, a tradeoff between performance and overhead can be achieved.

[0051] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system. FIG. 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more network entities 102 (also referred to as network equipment (NE) ) , one or more UEs 104, a core network 106, and a packet data network 108. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 5G network, such as an NR network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0054] The one or more UEs 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a remote unit, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples. In some implementations, a UE 104 may be stationary in the wireless communications system 100. In some other implementations, a UE 104 may be mobile in the wireless communications system 100. In some other implementations, a UE 104 may be a UAV UE and may communicate with one or more network entities 102 while flying.

[0055] The one or more UEs 104 may be devices in different forms or having different capabilities. Some examples of UEs 104 are illustrated in FIG. 1. A UE 104 may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as the network entities 102, other UEs 104, or network equipment (e.g., the core network 106, the packet data network 108, a relay device, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, or another network equipment) , as shown in FIG. 1. Additionally, or alternatively, a UE 104 may support communication with other network entities 102 or UEs 104, which may act as relays in the wireless communications system 100.

[0056] A UE 104 may also be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link 114. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0057] A network entity 102 may support communications with the core network 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the core network 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or TRPs.

[0058] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.

[0059] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0060] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160.

[0061] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0062] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0063] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0064] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0065] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0066] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0067] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0068] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0069] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (310 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0070] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0071] FIG. 2 illustrates an example of a process flow for NCJT CSI reporting in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process flow 200 may involve a UE 201 and a network entity (e.g. a TRP, or a base station including one or more TRPs) 202. The process flow 200 may be applied to the wireless communications system 100 with reference to FIG. 1, for example, the UE 201 may be any of UEs 104, and the network entity 202 may be any of the network entities 102. It would be appreciated that the process flow 200 may be applied to other communication scenarios.

[0072] At 210, the network entity 202 transmits, to the UE 201, configuration information 215 indicating a CSI-RS resource group, wherein the CSI-RS resource group includes multiple subsets of RS resources and each subset includes at least two RS resources. Correspondingly, at 220, the UE 201 receives the configuration information 215 from the network entity 202. In some embodiments, the configuration information 215 may be comprised in a CSI report configuration, separated from the CSI report configuration, or related to the CSI report configuration, which are not limited in the present disclosure.

[0073] For a UE supporting A (A>2) TRP NCJT scheme, it is assumed that the UE also supports 2, 3, …, A-1 TRP NCJT schemes. A CSI report configuration may indicate a group of RS resources which includes K subsets, where each subset includes M (2≤ M ≤ A) RS resources. Each RS resource in each subset corresponds to one TRP of the A TRPs and different RS resources in each subset correspond to different TRPs. And the number of RS resources in different subsets can be same or different.

[0074] At 230, the UE 201 transmits a NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs 235 to the network entity 202. Correspondingly, at 240, the network entity 202 receives the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs 235 from the UE 201.

[0075] When the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs is reported, it may include one CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) indicating one of the K subsets including M RS resources, one or two CQIs where the number of CQIs depends on the number of total reported layers (i.e. ranks) , a rank combination comprising M rank indicators (RIs) , M layer indicators (LIs) if it configured to be reported, and M PMIs, where each of M RIs, LIs and PMIs corresponds to one RS resource of the indicated subset with one to one mapping.

[0076] Regarding to number of CQI determined for in the NCJT CSI, there could be two options. In a first option, if the total rank (layer) number is larger than 4, then two CQIs are determined; otherwise, one CQI is determined. In this option, one CQI corresponds to one TB which can be mapped to up to 4 layers. In a second option, if the total rank (layer) number is larger than 8, then two CQIs are determined; otherwise, one CQI is determined. In this option, one CQI corresponds to one TB which can be mapped to up to 8 layers.

[0077] In some embodiments, the UE 201 may indicate the rank combination of TRPs from valid rank combinations, for example, using an index of the rank combination. For one NCJT CSI corresponding to no more than M TRPs, all the valid rank combinations may be predefined or RRC configured. For example without limitation, the valid rank combinations of 2 RIs can be (1, 1) , (1, 2) , (2, 1) , (2, 2) . The valid rank combination of 3 RIs can be (1, 1, 1) , (1, 1, 2) , (1, 2, 1) , (2, 1, 1) , (1, 2, 2) , (2, 1, 2) , (2, 2, 1) , (2, 2, 2) , (2, 2, 3) , (2, 3, 2) , (3, 2, 2) , (2, 3, 3) , (3, 2, 3) , (3, 3, 2) . The valid rank combination of 4 RIs can be (1, 1, 1, 1) , (1, 1, 1, 2) , (1, 1, 2, 1) , (1, 2, 1, 1) , (2, 1, 1, 1) , (1, 1, 2, 2) , (1, 2, 1, 2) , (2, 1, 2, 1) , (2, 2, 1, 1) , (1, 2, 2, 2) , (2, 1, 2, 2) , (2, 2, 1, 2) , (2, 2, 2, 1) , (2, 2, 2, 2) .

[0078] At 250, the UE 201 transmits at least one NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRP 255 to the network entity 202, where L is an integer having multiple values within a range from 2 to M-1 (i.e. 2 ≤ L ≤ M-1) , and wherein each NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRP includes at least one CQI corresponding to L RS resources from the M RS resources. Correspondingly, at 260, the network entity 202 receives the NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs 255 from the UE 201.

[0079] In addition to the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs 235, the UE may further feedback NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs 255 without increasing remarkable overhead. The at least one NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs 255 and the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs 235 can be reported together or separately, and the reporting order is not limited, e.g. differ from that shown in FIG. 2.

[0080] In this disclosure, the report content for NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs may be referred to as NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs. Besides, all the candidate values of L for NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs can be predefined which is from 2 to M-1, or RRC configured which is subset of 2 to M-1 for further overhead reduction.

[0081] In some embodiments, the NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs 255 may include one or more TRP combination indicators each indicating L RS resources selected from the M RS resources of the subset indicated by the NCJT CSI 235. Each TRP combination indicator may represent a valid TRP combination of L TRPs. The NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs further include CQI (s) corresponding the indicated L RS resources.

[0082] For each value of L, the UE may determine valid TRP combinations of L TRPs from the M TRPs based on valid rank combinations of L RIs which is predefined or RRC configured. Alternatively, the UE may determine the valid TRP combinations of L TRPs from the M TRPs based on TRP combination candidates of L TRPs which is predefined or RRC configured.

[0083] Several alternatives for the NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs are provided, corresponding to different NCJT schemes based on the value of L.

[0084] In the first alternative (Alt1) , for each value of L, the UE may determine and report one NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs.

[0085] A TRP combination indicator can be included in the NCJT part CSI to indicate L RS resources from the M RS resources. Since M RS resources in the subset indicated by CRI are mapped to the M TRPs, the TRP combination indicator also indicates L TRPs and their L RIs from the reported M RIs in the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs. The candidates of valid TRP combinations with L TRPs can be RRC configured to further reduce the complexity.

[0086] Besides, the TRP combination indicator can only indicate one valid rank combination of L RIs. Therefore, the indicator has at most states. Accordingly, the L LIs of M LIs reported in the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs associated with the indicated L RS resources and L PMIs of M PMIs reported in the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs associated with the indicated L RS resources can be used as L LIs and L PMIs the NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs respectively.

[0087] In some embodiments, the UE may calculate CQI (s) corresponding to the L RS resources based on the L RIs and the L PMIs. One CQI or two CQIs may be reported which is according to the total number of layers indicated by the TRP combination indicator. For example, if 2 TBs are used for more than 4 layers, then two CQIs are reported for the total layer number larger than 4, and one CQI is reported for the total layer number smaller or equal to 4. If one TB is used for no more than 8 layers, then one CQI is reported.

[0088] For NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs, one TRP combination indicator indicating L resources and one or two CQIs are reported, while L RIs, L LIs and L PMIs may be determined from the reported M RIs, LIs and M PMIs for NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs according to the TRP combination indicator. The network may reconstruct a whole NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs indicated by the TRP combination indicator based on the reported one or two CQIs and the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs.

[0089] As an example of Alt1, assume the UE supports up to M=4 TRPs NCJT and reports NCJT CSI corresponding to 4 TRPs including 1 CQI, 1 rank combination (RI1, RI2, RI3, RI4) , 4 LIs (LI1, LI2, LI3, LI4) , and 4 PMIs (PMI1, PMI2, PMI3, PMI4) . Thus, the matrices (RI, LI, PMI) with index 1 corresponds to TRP1, with index 2 corresponds to TRP2 and so on. Besides, assume the rank combination (RI1, RI2, RI3, RI4) is (1, 1, 1, 1) .

[0090] For NCJT part CSI corresponding to L=2 TRPs, the TRP combination indicator includes states. Assume the 6 states are ordered as the following indexes: (TRP1, TRP2) , (TRP1, TRP3) , (TRP1, TRP4) , (TRP2, TRP3) , (TRP2, TRP4) , (TRP3, TRP4) , and the corresponding rank combinations of the 6 alternatives are all valid. Therefore, the UE can report any of the 6 alternatives as a TRP combination indicator which has 3 bits. Assume TRP combination indicator indicates (TRP2, TRP4) , then (RI2, RI4) , (LI2, LI4) , (PMI2, PMI4) correspond to the NCJT CSI corresponding to the selected 2 TRPs. One or two CQIs according to (RI2, RI4) , (PMI2, PMI4) can be calculated and reported as one part of NCJT part CSI corresponding to 2 TRPs.

[0091] For NCJT part CSI corresponding to L=3 TRPs, the TRP combination indicator includes states. Assume the 4 states are ordered as the following indexes: (TRP1, TRP2, TRP3) , (TRP1, TRP2, TRP4) , (TRP1, TRP3, TRP4) , (TRP2, TRP3, TRP4) , and the corresponding rank combinations of the 4 alternatives are all valid. Therefore, the UE can report any of the 4 alternatives as a TRP combination indicator which has 2 bits. Assume TRP combination indicator indicates (TRP1, TRP2, TRP3) , then (RI1, RI2, RI3) , (LI1, LI2, LI3) , (PMI1, PMI2, PMI3) correspond to the NCJT CSI corresponding to the selected 3 TRPs. One or two CQIs according to (RI1, RI2, RI3) , (PMI1, PMI2, PMI3) can be calculated and reported as one part of NCJT part CSI corresponding to 3 TRPs.

[0092] Therefore, one NCJT part CSI corresponding to L=2 TRPs includes one TRP combination indicator and one CQI, and one NCJT part CSI corresponding to L=3 TRPs includes one TRP combination indicator and one CQI. This is the whole NCJT part CSI when UE reports one NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs for each value of L.

[0093] In the second alternative (Alt2) , for each value of L, the UE may determine and report multiple NCJT part CSIs corresponding to L TRPs.

[0094] For each of all valid TRP combination with L TRPs from M TRPs, one CQI or two CQIs may be reported. The number of CQIs is based on the total number of layers (ranks) which is indicated by L RIs from the M RIs of NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs according to the TRP combination. Candidates of valid TRP combinations with L TRPs can be RRC configured to further reduce the complexity. Furthermore, a valid TRP combination should satisfy the condition that L RIs of the L TRPs selected from the M RIs of the M TRPs according to the TRP combination is a valid rank combination for L TRPs.

[0095] For each value of L, the UE may determine a number of NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs based on a number of valid TRP combinations of L TRPs from the M TRPs. The UE then reports multiple NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs, where each NCJT part CSI corresponding to the L TRPs includes at least one CQI for the valid TRP combination.

[0096] In some embodiments, the valid TRP combination of the L TRPs from the M TRPs may indicate the L RS resources from the M RS resources. L RIs from the M RIs and L PMIs from the M PMIs may be determined according to the L RS resources respectively. For one valid TRP combination of the L TRPs from the M TRPs, the UE may calculate at least one CQI based on the L RIs and L PMIs corresponding to the valid TRP combination.

[0097] For NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs, if there are G valid TRP combinations of L TRPs, then one or two CQIs are reported for each of the G valid TRP combinations while L LIs and L PMIs are determined from the reported M LIs and M PMIs for NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs according to the L selected TRPs of the valid TRP combination. In this embodiment, a whole NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs of each of the G valid TRP combinations with L TRPs can be reconstructed based on the one or two CQIs associated with the valid TRP combinations with L TPRs and the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs.

[0098] As an example of Alt2, assume UE supports up to M=4 TRPs NCJT and reports a NCJT CSI corresponding to 4 TRPs including 1 CQI, 1 rank combination (RI1, RI2, RI3, RI4) , 4 LIs (LI1, LI2, LI3, LI4) , and 4 PMIs (PMI1, PMI2, PMI3, PMI4) . Then, the matrices (RI, LI, PMI) with index 1 corresponds to TRP1, with index 2 corresponds to TRP2 and so on. Besides, assume the rank combination (RI1, RI2, RI3, RI4) is (1, 1, 1, 1) .

[0099] For NCJT part CSI corresponding to L=2 TRPs, two TRP selection from 4 TRPs includes combinations. Assume the 6 combinations are ordered with the following indexes: (TRP1, TRP2) , (TRP1, TRP3) , (TRP1, TRP4) , (TRP2, TRP3) , (TRP2, TRP4) , (TRP3, TRP4) , and the corresponding rank combinations of the 6 combinations are all valid. Therefore, UE can report one CQI for each TRP combination. For (TRP1, TRP2) , a first CQI is calculated and reported as one part of NCJT part CSI corresponding to the first TRP combination according to (RI1, RI2) , (PMI1, PMI2) . For (TRP1, TRP3) , a second CQI is calculated and reported as one part of NCJT part CSI corresponding to the second TRP combination according to (RI1, RI3) , (PMI1, PMI3) , and so on. Since there are 6 valid combinations, 6 CQIs are reported as NCJT part CSI corresponding to 2 TRPs.

[0100] For NCJT part CSI corresponding to L=3 TRPs, three TRP selection from 4 TRPs includes combinations. Assume the 4 states are ordered as the following indexes: (TRP1, TRP2, TRP3) , (TRP1, TRP2, TRP4) , (TRP1, TRP3, TRP4) , (TRP2, TRP3, TRP4) , and the corresponding rank combinations of the 4 TRP combinations are all valid. Therefore, UE can report one CQI for each valid combination. For (TRP1, TRP2, TRP3) , a first CQI is calculated and reported as one part of NCJT part CSI corresponding to the first TRP combination according to (RI1, RI2, RI3) , (PMI1, PMI2, PMI3) . For (TRP1, TRP2, TRP4) , a second CQI is calculated and reported as one part of NCJT part CSI corresponding to the second TRP combination according to (RI1, RI2, RI4) , (PMI1, PMI2, PMI4) , and so on. Since there are 4 valid combinations, 4 CQIs are reported as NCJT part CSI corresponding to 3 TRPs.

[0101] Therefore, one NCJT part CSI corresponding to L=2 TRPs includes 6 CQIs for 6 TRP combinations, and one NCJT part CSI corresponding to L=3 TRPs includes 4 CQIs for 4 TRP combinations. For Alt2, this is the whole NCJT part CSI when UE reports multiple NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs for each value of L. Note that the candidate values of L may be selected as a subset of 2 to M-1 to further reduce overhead.

[0102] In the third alternative (Alt3) , the UE may determine and report one or more NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs for all candidate values of L. The number of NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs can be predefined or RRC configured.

[0103] The NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs may include one or more TRP selection indicators, wherein each of the TRP selection indicators indicates one TRP combination from all valid TRP combinations with all values of L. The TRP selection indicator may also indicate the L RS resources from the M RS resources. Thus, L RIs, L LIs and L PMIs from the M RIs, M LIs, and the M PMIs can be determined according to the L RS resources respectively.

[0104] Assume the number of candidate values of L is B, and the candidate values of L is ordered from smallest to largest is l1 , l2, …, lB. There are TRP combinations when selecting li (i=1, 2, …, B) TRPs from M TRPs. Besides, each TRP combination can indicate one rank combination of li RIs from the M RIs in the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs, therefore, one TRP combination is valid only when its corresponding rank combination is valid and it should be included in the candidates of TRP combinations if candidates of TRP combinations are configured by RRC. Assume the number of valid TRP combinations with li is whose maximal number is Therefore, there are  different TRP combinations for all candidate values of L.

[0105] In this embodiment, one TRP selection indicator may indicate one TRP combination from candidates. Therefore, the bit width of the TRP selection indicator is The TRP selection indicator indicates the number of selected TRPs which is L and the corresponding TRP combination. Therefore, the corresponding L RIs, L LIs and L PMIs can be determined according to the M RIs, M LIs and M PMIs in the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs according to the indicated TRP combination.

[0106] Besides, one CQI or two CQIs may be reported for each TRP combination, which is based on the total number of layers indicated by the TRP selection indicator. For example, if two TBs are used for more than 4 layers, two CQIs are reported for the total layer number larger than 4 and one CQI is reported for the total layer number smaller or equal to 4. If one TB is used for no more than 8 layers, then one CQI is reported. The reported CQI (s) can be calculated according to the indicated L RIs and L PMIs.

[0107] For NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs with all candidate values of L, each TRP selection indicator indicates a value of L and the corresponding TRP combination, and one or two CQIs are reported while L RIs, L LIs and L PMIs can be determined from the reported M RIs, M LIs and M PMIs for NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs according to the TRP selection indicator. According to Alt3, a whole NCJT CSI corresponding to L TRPs indicated by the TRP selection indicator can be reconstructed by the one or two CQIs and the NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs. The number of TRP selection indicators can be configured by RRC or predefined. If more than one TRP selection indicators are reported, then the indicated TRP combinations by the more than one TRP selection indicators must be different.

[0108] As an example of Alt3, assume UE supports up to M=4 TRPs NCJT and reports one NCJT CSI corresponding to 4 TRPs including 1 CQI, 1 rank combination (RI1, RI2, RI3, RI4) , 4 LIs (LI1, LI2, LI3, LI4) , 4 PMIs (PMI1, PMI2, PMI3, PMI4) . Then, the matrices (RI, LI, PMI) with index 1 corresponds to TRP1, with index 2 corresponds to TRP2 and so on. Besides, assume the rank combination (RI1, RI2, RI3, RI4) is (1, 1, 1, 1) .

[0109] There are 6+4 valid TRP combinations for L=2 and 3, and all the TRP combinations may be ordered as following indexes: (TRP1, TRP2) , (TRP1, TRP3) , (TRP1, TRP4) , (TRP2, TRP3) , (TRP2, TRP4) , (TRP3, TRP4) , (TRP1, TRP2, TRP3) , (TRP1, TRP2, TRP4) , (TRP1, TRP3, TRP4) , (TRP2, TRP3, TRP4) . Thus, the TRP selection indicator includes 10 states which needs 4 bits. Assume only TRP selection indicator is reported and it indicates (TRP2, TRP3, TRP4) , then (RI2, RI3, RI4) , (LI2, LI3, LI4) , (PMI2, PMI3, PMI4) correspond to the NCJT CSI corresponding to the selected 3 TRPs. The CQI (s) according to (RI2, RI3, RI4) and (PMI2, PMI3, PMI4) can be calculated and reported as one part of NCJT part CSI corresponding to 3 TRPs.

[0110] Therefore, one NCJT part CSI includes one TRP selection indicator and one CQI. It can be seen that the TRP selection indicator indicates 3 TRPs are selected, therefore, the NCJT part CSI is NCJT part CSI corresponding to 3 TRPs.

[0111] It is understood that the UE may report multiple NCJT part CSIs by indicating more than one TRP selection indicator, along with corresponding CQI (s) for each TRP selection indicator. The difference between Alt3 and Alt1 or Alt2 lies in that, Alt3 does not require reporting for every possible value of L; instead, it allows selective reporting, i.e., the UE may only report the NCJT part CSI for only one or a limited set of L values.

[0112] Note that the UE may support all alternatives, with an RRC parameter indicating which alternative is applied and whether the feature is enabled. Alternatively, Alt1, Alt2, or Alt3 may be applied as predefined options.

[0113] Accordingly, two modes for CSI report are proposed, which are similar with Mode 1 and Mode 2 in 5G which can be named as Mode A and Mode B respectively. Assume A is the total number of TRPs configured for CSI report. The CSI reporting configuration and report content for Mode A and Mode B are as follows.

[0114] In Mode A, RSs are configured for both single TRP CSI and NCJT CSI. For the single TRP CSI configuration, there are two options. In Option 1, a single RS set is configured, containing multiple RSs, each corresponding to one of the A TRPs. In Option 2, A RS sets are configured, where each RS in each of the A RS sets corresponds to one of the A TRPs. For the NCJT CSI configuration, one RS group is configured, which includes K subsets. Each subset includes M RS resources (where 2 ≤ M ≤ A) , corresponding to M TRPs. The value of M can vary across different subsets.

[0115] In Mode A, the CSI report content includes X single TRP CSI + 1 NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs+ Y NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs (Alt1 or Alt2) (L=2, …, M-1 or subset of 2, …, M-1) or 1 NCJT part CSI corresponding to one value of L TRPs (Alt3, if only one NCJT part CSI is reported) . The value of X can be configured by RRC which can be 0, 1, 2, …, M. Y is either 1 for Alt1 or the number determined according to the L valid TRP combination selected from M TRPs for Alt2.

[0116] If Option 1 is applied for the single TRP CSI RS configuration, the selected X single TRP CSI can be same TRPs or different TRPs. If Option 2 is applied for RS configuration for single TRP CSI, the selected X single TRP CSI can always correspond to X different TRPs.

[0117] In Mode B CSI reporting configuration, RSs are also configured for both single TRP CSI and NCJT CSI. For single TRP CSI, two options are considered. In Option 1, a single RS set is configured, containing multiple RSs, where each RS corresponds to one of the A TRPs. In Option 2, A RS sets are configured, with each RS in each of the A RS sets corresponding to one of the A TRPs. For NCJT CSI, a RS group is configured, which includes K subsets. Each subset contains M RS resources (where 2 ≤ M ≤ A) , and each RS corresponds to one of the M TRPs. The value of M can vary across different subsets.

[0118] In Mode B, the report content includes either a single TRP CSI or a NCJT CSI corresponding to M TRPs + Y NCJT part CSI corresponding to L TRPs (Alt1 or Alt2) (L=2, …, M-1 or subset of 2, …, M-1) or one NCJT part CSI corresponding to one value of L TRPs (Alt3, if only one NCJT part CSI is reported) . Y is either 1 for Alt 1 or the number determined according to the L valid TRP combination selected from M TRPs for Alt2.
