Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates generally to lighting devices and more particularly to lighting devices for producing white mixed light having controllable spectral characteristics. Background Art

[0002] Lighting devices or light sources for producing white light are known. Lighting devices with LEDs (light emitting diodes) are also known, in which case several LEDs are combined to obtain white light with desired or preferred spectral characteristics. Due to the interdependencies between the different spectral characteristics, a satisfactory adjustment of the spectral characteristics of a lighting device is often not easy to achieve. Furthermore, it is often not clear how to describe the spectral characteristics of white light. Summary of the invention

[0003] One object of the present invention is to provide a lighting device for generating white mixed light with controllable spectral properties, which device makes it possible to control the spectral properties of the white mixed light in a simple and reliable manner.

[0004] In order to solve this problem, a lighting device for generating white mixed light with controllable spectral characteristics is proposed. The lighting device includes a plurality of white light sources, each of which contributes by generating white light with a spectral expression that can be quantitatively described or with unique spectral characteristics, so that the white light generated by the white light sources can form a corner point of a target range for the generated mixed light in the spectral light parameter space.

[0005] The lighting device further includes control electronics for controlling a proportional contribution of the white light source so that a position corresponding to the generated white mixed light can be varied substantially within a target range spanned by a corner point of the spectral light parameter space.

[0006] The spectral features or spectral properties which can be described quantitatively may in particular be properties of white light which are particularly preferred by the user, in particular in general or depending on the situation or in certain applications.

[0007] The spectral parameter space can basically be a multidimensional space where different spectral parameters are plotted on coordinate axes to describe the white light spectrum according to a scale. For the quantitative description of spectral characteristics, different spectral parameters or different metrics can be used in the spectral light parameter space.

[0008] By providing a target space between the corner points of the spectral light parameter space, a light design space is provided, in which the spectral characteristics of the white light mixture can be modified or adjusted to suit a specific application by changing the proportional contribution of the white light source.

[0009] The lighting device thus provides a range of designs or lighting design spaces where a user or lighting designer can implement different white light recipes or combinations of white lights with different spectral characteristics.

[0010] In particular, a standardized metric can be used as a metric in the light parameter space. Using a standardized metric can facilitate high reproducibility and precise tuning of the spectral properties of the generated mixed light.

[0011] The white light source may in particular comprise a single LED and / or a group of LEDs and be designed in such a way that the spectral characteristics of the white light source emphasize certain important aspects of the white light or aspects of the white light that are preferred by the user.

[0012] In particular, one of the white light sources can be designed to produce white light with a slightly oversaturated color spectrum or with a high color gamut Rg or color gamut. White light with such spectral characteristics is often considered by users to be particularly attractive. Such light is also referred to as "attractive light" hereinafter.

[0013] Another white light source can be specially designed to produce white light with particularly good color rendering or color fidelity. Such light, similar to black body radiation or sunlight or incandescent light, is favored by users in many applications. For example, a white light source can include one or more LEDs, which together produce a white light spectrum with a color rendering Rf of almost 100, which corresponds to the maximum value of the color rendering. This light is also referred to as "natural light" hereinafter.

[0014] One of the white light sources can further be designed to produce particularly energy-efficient white light, at the expense of a reduction in the attractiveness and naturalness of the light. For example, the spectrum of an LED white light source may have lower color rendering and color gamut values, but the highest energy efficiency. This light is also referred to as "effective light" in the following text.

[0015] By changing the proportion of white light generated by different light sources in the generated white mixed light, the spectral characteristics of the generated white light can be flexibly adjusted as needed. For example, if the user attaches great importance to economy, the proportion of effective light can be increased, especially compared with natural light and attractive light. On the other hand, if color rendering is very important, the proportion of natural light can be increased, but at the cost of a decrease in attractiveness and efficiency.

[0016] Controlled mixing of lights with different spectral properties, in particular attractiveness, naturalness and efficiency, so that different "lighting recipes" can be achieved as required.

[0017] The light parameter space can have color rendering Rf, color gamut Rg, especially according to the TM30 index, and color temperature CCT as coordinates. The TM30 index is a standardized index for describing color rendering Rf and color gamut Rg. Color temperature or CCT (correlated color temperature) is used for the spectral characteristics of white light. In the TM-30 index, the color gamut Rg is normalized to 100 as a reference, where Rg<100 for an unsaturated white light spectrum and Rg>100 for an oversaturated white light spectrum. In such an Rf-Rg-CCT space, for example, Rf can be plotted on the x-axis, Rg on the y-axis, and CCT on the z-axis. The light parameter space defined in this way can be used as a reference system for reliable and repeatable adjustments of the spectral characteristics of white light.

[0018] The number of white light sources may include a group of white light sources, each of which is used to generate white light having a first color temperature CCT1. Since the color temperatures CCT1 of the white light sources are equal, the points corresponding to the individual lights may be represented on the Rf-Rg plane. By changing the proportional contribution of the group of white light sources, the spectral characteristics of the generated light, such as color rendering and / or color gamut, may be changed without changing the color temperature of the generated mixed light.

[0019] The group of white light sources may in particular include a first, a second and a third white light source for generating a first, a second and a third white light, respectively, wherein the first white light, the second white light and the third white light define a first point, a second point and a third point, respectively, in the light parameter space as vertices of a triangular target area in the Rf-Rg plane. By changing the proportional contribution of the first light, the second light and the third light, the point in the light parameter space corresponding to the generated white mixed light can in principle be positioned anywhere within the triangle. Therefore, the triangle on the Rf-Rg plane represents a target area, and a user or lighting designer can easily achieve different white light combinations without having to change the color temperature of the generated mixed light.

[0020] The first white light source can be designed to produce attractive light, the second white light source can be designed to produce natural light, and the third white light source can be designed to produce efficient light. By changing the proportional contribution of the first, second, and third lights, the position of the point in the triangle corresponding to the generated mixed white light can be changed. The naturalness, attractiveness, and efficiency of the resulting mixed light can be adjusted as desired.

[0021] The white light source can be designed such that the color rendering property Rf1 or the color gamut Rg1 of the attractive light can be particularly in the range of 85 < Rf1 < 100 or 102 < Rg1 < 115, and the color rendering property Rf2 or Rg1 < 115. The color gamut Rg2 of natural light is in the range of 90 < Rf2 < 100 or 90 < Rg2 < 100, while the color rendering property Rf3 and the color gamut Rg3 of the effective light are in the range of Rf3 < 85 or Rg3 < 100. These parameter ranges are well-suited to define a relatively large target range in the parameter space within which the spectral characteristics of the white mixed light can be varied.

[0022] In particular, the white light source can be designed such that the following relationships apply to the color rendering properties or color gamuts of the three white light sources. Rf3 < Rf1 < Rf2 and Rg3 < Rg2 < Rg1. The color rendering property or color gamut of the resulting mixed light is determined by the proportion in which the three white lights are mixed together, which can be specifically influenced by controlling the white light sources.

[0023] The control electronic device can be designed to control the first white light source, the second white light source, and the third white light source in such a way that at most two of the three light sources are activated simultaneously. For example, the composition of the resulting light or light recipe can represent a compromise between the attractive light and the natural light, and thus only the corresponding two light sources are represented in the recipe. The efficient light can remain off. Similarly, the light recipe can be a mixture of natural light and efficient light, or a mixture of attractive light and efficient light. Then, the resulting spectrum will follow the connecting line of the three vertices in the TM30 diagram. By restricting the light recipe to the perimeter of the triangle, the total adjustment possibilities of the lighting device can be reduced to a manageable subset, which can simplify the targeted adjustment of the lighting characteristics of the lighting device by the user and / or the light recipe designer.

[0024] In some embodiments, the lighting device further includes a second group of white light sources, each having spectral characteristics, wherein the second group of white light sources is adapted to produce white light having a second color temperature (CCT2) different from the first color temperature (CCT1). Due to the different color temperatures, the white light sources of the first group and the second group together form a three-dimensional target region in the Rf-Rg-CCT space or the light parameter space, within which the position of the target point for adjusting the spectral characteristics can be changed by controlling the individual white light sources. In principle, the number of light sources in the first group or the second group can be any natural number, just like their positioning in the parameter space, depending on which light recipes are to be achieved.

[0025] In some embodiments, the first group includes two white light sources and the second group includes one white light source. The white light produced by the single white light source of the second group may have a certain attractiveness or naturalness in particular and can be represented as a point in the TM30 diagram or in the Rf-Rg plane. The light of the second group of light sources may contain a higher blue light component in particular and may also have a color temperature higher than the color temperature CCT1 of the first group of light sources. White light with a higher blue light component or a higher color temperature generally has an activating effect on the human body and can be used specifically for this purpose. Therefore, a triangle can be drawn in the light parameter space as a target area, in which the white point can be located. This constellation with three white light sources is easy to implement and is particularly suitable for simple lighting solutions.

[0026] In some embodiments, the first group includes three white light sources and the second group includes one white light source, so that four corner points can be defined in the light parameter space to span a pyramid. Therefore, the pyramid represents a design space in the light parameter space in which the spectral characteristics of the generated mixed light can be varied.

[0027] In some embodiments, each group includes three white light sources. In particular, the three white light sources of the second group can be designed similarly to the white light sources of the first group so that each produces white light with a predetermined attractiveness, naturalness and efficiency, in particular with a higher color temperature. The light produced by the white light sources of the second group can be represented as the corner points of a triangle in the light parameter space. The projections of these corner points on the Rf-Rg plane or the TM30 plane can be fundamentally different from the positions of the corresponding corner points of the first group. Therefore, by mixing attractive, natural, effective and activated light, a light recipe can be created as needed, based on which the position of the white point corresponding to the generated mixed light can be selected or adjusted within the triangular prism defined by the corner points.

[0028] The control unit may be designed to control the white light source in such a way that the point corresponding to the generated mixed light describes an adjustable or predetermined trajectory within the target area. In particular, the trajectory of the target point may be selected according to user preferences so that certain areas within the target area are avoided or preferred when changing the position of the white point.

[0029] In particular, the control electronics can be designed to move the trajectory of the point corresponding to the generated mixed light from a starting point to an end point in the target area in a circadian rhythm. Since the point corresponding to the generated mixed light or the target point moves along the trajectory of the circadian rhythm, the spectral characteristics of the lighting device can be automatically adapted according to the user's preferences and at different times of the day.

[0030] For example, the spectrum of the generated white mixed light can be varied during the day so that the generated white light corresponds to cool attracting light in the morning and to warm natural light in the evening, with the daytime variation being mainly along the "efficiency edge". Thus, any user preferred expression can be satisfied over the course of the day. With the help of a predetermined trajectory of the white point within the target area, dynamic or time-varying lighting schemes can be implemented, in particular for HCL (Human Centric Lighting).

[0031] The at least one white light source may include a number of LEDs or LED light sources for generating respective white light with respective color temperatures and respective predetermined spectral characteristics. The LED light source may in particular include one or more LEDs, in particular a combination of LEDs. By combining LEDs, the spectral characteristics of the white light source may be influenced in a targeted manner, so that essentially any spectral characteristics of the white light source may be achieved.

[0032] The lighting device may include a user interface with a display device for displaying the target area in the light parameter space so as to control the position in the target area corresponding to the generated white mixed light through the display device.

[0033] In some embodiments, the control electronic device has a communication interface for wireless and / or wired communication between the control electronic device and the user interface. For example, the user interface can be implemented as a touch screen on a portable device, such as a smart phone, a tablet computer or a similar device, and has corresponding application software or applications. In particular, on a display device, the target area in the light parameter space can be intuitively displayed as a triangle, a rectangle, a triangular prism, etc. according to the embodiment, so that the user can compose a white light recipe in an intuitive and simple way by selecting the position of the target point. The settings selected by the user can be transmitted from the user interface to the control electronic device via the communication interface, so that each white light source can be controlled according to the user's settings. [0050] Figure 1 An Rf-Rg diagram is shown for describing the spectrum of white light according to an example. Figure 1 In the Rf-Rg index shown, the color rendering index Rf and the color gamut index Rg according to the international standard TM30 are used to describe the white light spectrum. Figure 1 In , the color rendering index Rf is plotted on the X-axis and the color gamut Rg is plotted on the Y-axis. Figure 1 In the Rf-Rg diagram shown, each white light with a certain color rendering and a certain color gamut can be assigned a point. Figure 1 The three points 1, 2 and 3 shown in FIG. 1 correspond to three white light sources with different spectral characteristics.

[0051] Figure 1The shown Rf-Rg diagram is divided into several regions. The shaded triangular regions in the upper right and lower right areas illustrate the so-called "forbidden zones", which are actually inaccessible according to the definition of the TM30 metric. In addition, the Rf-Rg diagram shows a first region 4 delimited by a dashed line, in which a first point 1 corresponding to a first white light source is located. The first region 4 is characterized by a relatively high value of the color rendering property Rf and a relatively high value of the color gamut Rg. In the shown embodiment, the first region 4 is within the parameter range of 85 < Rf < 100 or 102 < Rg < 115. Therefore, the first region 4 defines a parameter range for white light with oversaturated colors or a high color gamut and has relatively good color rendering. Such white light is often considered particularly attractive. Therefore, the first region 4 corresponds to a parameter range of attractive white light. Therefore, the white light corresponding to point 1 can also be described as "attractive light".

[0052] The Rf-Rg diagram also shows a second region 5 delimited by a dashed line, in which a second point corresponding to a second white light source is located. The second region 5 is characterized by a high value of the color rendering property Rf and a relatively low value of the color gamut Rg. In the shown embodiment, the second region is within the parameter range of 90 < Rf < 100 or 90 < Rg < 98. Due to the high color rendering or color fidelity, the white light corresponding to the second point 2 can also be referred to as "natural light".

[0053] The Rf-Rg diagram also shows a third region 6 delimited by a dashed line, in which a third point corresponding to a third white light source is located. The third region 6 is characterized by a low value of the color rendering property Rf and a low value of the color gamut Rg. In the shown embodiment, the third region 6 is within the parameter range of 80 < Rf < 85 or 80 < Rg < 98.

[0054] The white light assigned to the third region can especially be produced by a white light source that is designed to produce white light in a particularly energy-efficient manner, especially by accepting a deterioration in the attractiveness or naturalness of the light. For example, the spectral characteristics of the light source can be selected in such a way that the maximum energy efficiency is achieved with a minimum color rendering property and a minimum color gamut when necessary. Such light is also referred to as "efficient light" hereinafter.

[0055] Figure 2 Shows the spectral distribution of "natural" white light according to an embodiment. In particular, Figure 2 Shows a comparison of the spectral distribution of natural white light with a reference light (shown in rectified form). The spectrum of the reference light basically corresponds to the spectrum of blackbody radiation. As can be seen from Figure 2 the spectral curve of the "natural light" largely follows the spectral curve of the reference light. The color rendering property Rf and the color gamut Rg of the "natural light" are approximately 100.

[0056] Figure 3 The spectral distribution of "attractive" white light according to one embodiment is shown. Figure 3 The color spectrum shown is similar to Figure 2 The color spectra are different, especially the spectral weights in the red and green spectral ranges are high, while the spectral weight in the yellow spectral range with a wavelength of about 580 nanometers is insufficient. Figure 3 The spectrum shown corresponds to a color gamut Rg of 105, which people find particularly attractive due to the slight oversaturation of the colors.

[0057] Figure 4 Shown is the spectral distribution of "high efficiency" white light according to an example. Figure 4 The color spectrum shown is similar to Figure 2 The color spectrum is different, in particular the spectral weight in the yellow-orange-orange-yellow color range from 580 to 615 nanometers is too high, the spectral weight in the red spectral range from about 620 to 650 nanometers is too low, and the spectral weight in the green spectral range from 510 to 530 nanometers is too high. The 4 spectrum shown in the figure corresponds to "high-efficiency" light with a color rendering index Rf of 85. This white light can be generated in a particularly energy-saving manner, in particular by LED light sources.

[0058] Figure 5 FIG. 1 shows a target area defined by three white light sources in light parameter space according to one embodiment. Figure 5 In the light parameter space, color rendering Rf, color gamut Rg and color temperature (CCT) are plotted as parameters on the coordinate axes. Figure 5 Three points in the Rf-Rg plane are shown. Figure 1 Similarly, these three points correspond to attractive light, natural light, and effective light. Figure 5 In the example, the three white lamps have the same color temperature. When these white light sources are used in a lighting device to produce a white mixed light, the produced white mixed light will also have the same color temperature. Therefore, the point corresponding to the produced mixed light will also be located in the Rf-Rg plane, within the triangle defined by the three points 1, 2 and 3. By changing the proportional contribution of the individual white light sources, for example by the control electronics of the lighting device, the position of the triangle corresponding to the mixed light in the light parameter space can be changed.

[0059] Therefore, the three types of white light, ATTRACTIVE, NATURAL and EFFICIENT, define a triangular target area or design space in the lighting parameter space, where users or lighting designers can implement different lighting recipes or spectral combinations for white mixed light.

[0060] Figure 6shows the lighting design space according to an example. Figure 5 , the lighting design space shown can be realized by three white light sources. In this case, the lighting design space is limited to Figure 6 The perimeter of triangle 5 is Figure 6 This design space corresponds to an operating mode of the lighting device, i.e., at most two of the three white light sources are activated at the same time, so at most two of the three white lights are reflected in the white mixed light. By excluding one of the three white lights, the user can simplify the adjustment of the spectral characteristics of the generated white light.

[0061] Figure 7 A lighting design space according to another example is shown. In this embodiment, the design space corresponds to the entire target area, which is defined by the triangle spanned by the three corner points. In particular, the control electronics can be configured such that the positions within the triangle corresponding to the generated mixed light can be changed as desired. In this case, the user can implement more complex recipes or more refined mixtures to achieve attractive, natural and efficient light.

[0062] Figure 8 A lighting design space according to another design example is shown. Figure 8 The lighting design space shown is realized by six white light sources, among which Figure 5 Three additional white light sources with higher color temperatures are added to the three white light sources in the original image. The light produced by the three additional white light sources is also represented as points in the light parameter space, which lie in a plane of higher CCT parallel to the Rf-Rg plane. The three additional white light sources are comparable to the original image in terms of attractiveness, naturalness, and efficiency. Figure 5 The three white light sources correspond to each other, so the projections of the corresponding points 1', 2' and 3' on the Rf-RG plane correspond to points 1, 2 and 3. White light with a higher color temperature usually has an activating effect on the human body. This is why Figure 8 Points 1', 2' and 3' in are marked as ACTIVATING. The six white light sources thus provide a three-dimensional target area in the form of a triangular prism for locating the generated white light point in the light parameter space. The user or lighting designer can adjust the spectral characteristics of the generated light within the triangular prism according to their preferences, i.e. attractiveness, naturalness, efficiency and activation effect, as necessary and as the case may be. For example, by increasing the proportional intensity of the white light source with a higher color temperature, the user can move the generated white point upwards to white point 1', 2' or 3' to increase the activation effect of the generated white light.

[0063] Fig. 9 A lighting design space according to another example is shown. Fig. 9 Lighting design space and Figure 8The lighting design space is essentially the same, but the attractiveness, naturalness and efficiency of white light spots 1', 2' and 3' do not match. In particular, the projection of the triangle formed by white spots 1', 2' and 3' on the Rf-Rg plane does not coincide with the triangle formed by white spots 1, 2 and 3. This example is for special illustration, and the lighting design space can in principle also have a curved or distorted shape, depending on the design.

[0064] Fig.10 A lighting design space according to another embodiment is shown. In this example, four white light sources are used, represented by corresponding white light points in the light parameter space. Fig.10 Lighting design space and Fig. 9 The lighting design space is basically the same, but instead of a second set of white light sources, only a single white light source with a higher color temperature is used as the fourth white light source. The corresponding white point 10 together with the first three white points 1, 2, 3 constitutes a target area or lighting design space in the form of a possibly tilted pyramid in the lighting parameter space, in which the user or lighting designer can position the white point as needed. For example, by increasing the proportional intensity of the fourth light, the user can move the resulting white point upward or towards the white point 10 to increase the activation effect of the resulting mixed light.

[0065] Fig.11 A lighting design space according to another embodiment is shown. In this example, the lighting design space is defined by a first set of two white light sources with corresponding white points 2 and 3 at lower color temperatures and a second set of two white light sources with corresponding white points 2' and 3' at higher color temperatures. White points 2, 3, 2' and 3' thus define a rectangular area as a lighting design space or target area. In the embodiment shown, only attractive, efficient white light sources are used. In other embodiments, other combinations of white light sources are used, such as natural and efficient or natural and attractive, depending on the user's preferences.

[0066] Fig.12 FIG. 1 shows a lighting design space according to another embodiment. In this example, the lighting design space is defined by two white light sources of the first group, with corresponding white points 2 and 3 at low color temperature, and by one white light source of the second group, with corresponding white point 20 at high color temperature. Therefore, white points 2, 3, and 20 define a two-dimensional triangular area as the lighting design space or target area. According to FIG. Fig.12 The lighting design of the space can be provided in a relatively simple way, using three white light sources. In the example shown, the main focus is on the efficiency of the light and the attractiveness or activation effect, but other combinations of white light sources can also be adopted according to the user's preference.

[0067] Fig.13 Shows the Figure 8 A dynamic white light curve of an embodiment within a lighting design space of FIG. The dynamic white light curve 40 is shown as a solid line extending between a first end near a white point 1 of low color temperature and a second end near a white point 2' of high color temperature. The dynamic white light curve 40 describes the trajectory of the position of a target point or a white light point corresponding to the generated mixed light through the light parameter space within the target area during a day. Fig.13 , the time of day is also indicated to illustrate that the target point at 6 a.m. starts approximately at white point 2', which corresponds to attractive white light with an activation effect. Such light can provide both rapid activation and a positive mood upon waking up. During the day, especially between 11:00 and 16:00, the dynamic white light curve 40 runs primarily along the longitudinal edges of the triangular prism between white points 3' and 3, corresponding to effective light with gradually decreasing color temperature. At around 9 p.m., the curve ends near white point 1 in the Rf-Rg plane with a lower color temperature, corresponding to comfortable natural light. Therefore, Fig.14 The Dynamic White Light Curve 40 enables users to start their day with an attractive activation light and end it with a natural warm light, saving electrical energy during the day.

[0068] Fig.14 The user interface of a lighting device according to an embodiment is shown. In this embodiment, the user interface 50 has a display device 60 in the form of a touch screen. The user interface 50 can be implemented in particular on a smartphone, a tablet or a similar device with corresponding application software or an application. The user interface 50 is designed to display an image 80 of a target area and an image 90 of a target point or a white light point corresponding to the white mixed light to be generated. Fig.14 As an example, the Figure 5 In principle, a triangular prism or other target areas can also be visualized by the display device 60.

[0069] Fig.15 A lighting device for generating white mixed light according to an embodiment is schematically shown. The lighting device 100 comprises a number of white light sources 150. In the present embodiment, the white light sources 150 are designed as LED light sources. The LED light sources can each have an LED combination for generating respective white light with respective spectral characteristics which can be quantitatively described. The LEDs of the different white light sources can in particular be mounted on a common circuit board or can also be mounted separately.
