Image luminance dynamic range conversion method and apparatus

Abstract

This application relates to a method and apparatus for image brightness dynamic range conversion. The method includes the following steps: extracting brightness statistics about at least a portion of pixels in a frame to be processed, wherein the frame to be processed has an original brightness dynamic range; based on the brightness statistics of the at least a portion of pixels, clustering the at least a portion of pixels into multiple pixel groups separated by multiple marker brightness values, wherein each of the multiple pixel groups has a predetermined number of pixels, and pixels in every two adjacent pixel groups are separated by one of the multiple marker brightness values; and generating a conversion mapping relationship according to the multiple marker brightness values, such that the frame to be processed can be converted into a target frame having a target brightness dynamic range at least partially based on the conversion mapping relationship, wherein the conversion mapping relationship indicates the mapping value of each brightness value in the original brightness dynamic range in the target brightness dynamic range.
