Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the Chinese patent application with application number No. 202080074736.7, filed on October 27, 2020, and invention name “Uplink communication timeline problem with extended cyclic prefix”.

[0002] Cross-references

[0003] This patent application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 201941044022, entitled “PUSCH TIMELINEISSUES WITH EXTENDED CP,” filed by BHATTAD et al. on October 30, 2019, which is assigned to the assignee of this application. Background Art

[0004] The following relates generally to wireless communications and, more particularly, to uplink channel timelines with extended cyclic prefixes.

[0005] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, etc. These systems may be able to support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems (such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, advanced LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems), and fifth generation (5G) systems that may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems. These systems may use various technologies, such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include several base stations or network access nodes, each of which simultaneously supports the communication of multiple communication devices, which may be referred to as user equipment (UE).

[0006] Transmissions in wireless communication systems (such as LTE and NR systems) can use a cyclic prefix (CP) to provide a protection period at the beginning of a symbol (e.g., an OFDMA symbol) that provides protection against multipath delay spread. The CP can be generated by copying the end of the body of the symbol to the beginning of the symbol so that the frequency domain representation of each delay spread component within the fast Fourier transform (FFT) processing window is the same. Both normal CP (NCP) and extended CP (ECP) lengths can be specified in the system, where NCP is intended to be sufficient for most scenarios and ECP is intended for scenarios with relatively high delay spread. It is expected that efficient techniques for using ECP will help enhance system efficiency.

[0007] Overview

[0008] The described technology relates to an improved method, system, device and apparatus for supporting an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix. In general, the described technology provides for a user equipment (UE) supporting an extended cyclic prefix (ECP) to identify or determine the duration of the ECP and transmit the ECP followed by an uplink message (e.g., on the first symbol in one or more symbols of the uplink message), wherein the ECP is based on when the uplink message is transmitted. For example, the UE may transmit an indication of the UE capability to support the ECP, wherein the ECP is transmitted based on the UE capability. Additionally, the UE may identify or determine the duration of the ECP based on an uplink grant of a scheduled uplink message and / or the ECP received from a base station. In some cases, the uplink grant may include an explicit indication of the duration of the ECP, an implicit indication of the duration of the ECP (e.g., via a plurality of transmission parameters used by the UE to derive the duration of the ECP), a start symbol for transmitting an uplink message followed by an uplink message used by the UE to begin transmitting the ECP, or a combination thereof. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may determine the ECP duration based on a set of offsets and UE capabilities, where the set of offsets is configured in part by the base station.

[0009] In some cases, the UE may also identify uplink control information (UCI) to be transmitted that at least partially overlaps with an uplink message, and may determine how to multiplex the UCI with the uplink message based on the ECP. For example, the UE may determine the symbol of the uplink message to be multiplexed with the UCI or whether to multiplex the UCI based on the UE's timeline capability between identifying a trigger for transmitting the UCI and transmitting the UCI, wherein the timeline capability is based on the UE's minimum number of symbols required between the event trigger and the start of an uplink channel for transmitting the UCI, the ECP, a timing advance (TA), or a combination thereof. Additionally or alternatively, when an indication of the ECP is received in an uplink grant, the UE may determine whether to transmit the uplink message indicated by the uplink grant based on a similar UE's timeline capability. For example, the timeline capability may be based on the UE's minimum number of symbols required between the uplink grant and the start of an uplink channel for transmitting the uplink message, the ECP, the TA, or a combination thereof. Additionally, when transmitting ECP and uplink message, both ECP and uplink message may be transmitted in the same time slot (eg, based on buffer limitations / UE capabilities, neither ECP nor the uplink channel carrying the uplink message may cross time slot boundaries).

[0010] A method of wireless communication at a UE is described. The method may include transmitting an indication of a UE capability to support ECP, determining to transmit an uplink message on resources of an uplink channel, performing a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure based on the determination to transmit the uplink message, determining a duration of the ECP associated with the resources of the uplink channel, and transmitting the ECP on the resources of the uplink channel according to the determined duration followed by a first symbol of one or more symbols of the uplink message, the ECP being based on the first symbol.

[0082] Detailed Description

[0083] In some wireless communication systems, a user equipment (UE) may use a cyclic prefix (CP) to provide a guard period at the beginning of a symbol (e.g., an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol) that provides protection against multipath delay spread. For example, the CP may be generated by copying the end of the body of the symbol to the beginning of the symbol so that the frequency domain representation of each delay spread component within a fast Fourier transform (FFT) processing window is the same.

[0084] As described herein, in some cases, a UE may use an extended CP (ECP) length for different scenarios (e.g., high delay spread scenarios). For example, the ECP may be used to create a gap of a specific duration (e.g., 16 microseconds (μs), 25 μs, etc.) to meet regulatory or specification requirements for gaps between base station and UE transmissions and / or to create a listen-before-talk (LBT) gap for the UE prior to its transmission. However, based on the use of the ECP, different issues may arise, such as the UE may have limitations on ECP duration support that the network is not aware of, the UE may be expected to transmit an uplink channel at a time that the ECP cannot achieve, or the UE may be expected to transmit and / or multiplex uplink control information (UCI) in an uplink channel when the timeline becomes more tight with the ECP.

[0085] As described herein, new UE capabilities may be introduced for the UE to indicate support for ECP and / or the amount of ECP supported (e.g., ECP duration). In some cases, the base station may configure the offset based on these capabilities, or the UE may select an offset from a set of available offsets based on these capabilities. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may receive an uplink grant for transmitting an uplink message at symbol N with an indication of the ECP, and the UE may determine whether to comply with the uplink grant based on a timeline of symbols prior to symbol N, wherein the timeline is based on the minimum number of symbols required by the UE between receiving the uplink grant and symbol N (e.g., N2 symbols), the ECP, and timing advance (TA). In some cases, the UE may shorten the indicated ECP based on the timeline to transmit both the ECP and the uplink message. Additionally or alternatively, the uplink channel allocation indicated in the uplink grant may include a starting point in the allocation containing the ECP so that the UE starts transmitting the ECP at the indicated start of the allocation. In some cases, the ECP and the uplink channel may be within one time slot.

[0086] Additionally, the UE may be expected to multiplex UCI in the uplink channel based on the UE capability of the minimum number of symbols (e.g., Z symbols) required between an event that triggers uplink control information (UCI) (e.g., a triggering event) and the time at which the uplink channel starts. In some cases, the UE may determine which symbol in the uplink channel to multiplex with UCI based on a timeline (e.g., Z'), which is further based on the minimum number of symbols (Z), ECP, and TA. Additionally or alternatively, if a triggering event is identified several symbols before the start of the uplink channel based on the timeline (Z'), the UE may determine that UCI is to be multiplexed. In some cases, the UE may discard one of the uplink channel carrying the uplink message or the uplink channel carrying UCI based on a priority rule, or may not expect to receive an uplink grant or triggering event so that processing both simultaneously will affect the UE's ability to multiplex uplink messages and UCI.

[0087] Various aspects of the present disclosure are initially described in the context of a wireless communication system. Additionally, various aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated by additional wireless communication systems, ECP durations, uplink channel scheduling timelines, uplink channel allocations, UCI multiplexing timelines, and process flows. Various aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described by and with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow charts related to an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix.

[0088] Figure 1An example of a wireless communication system 100 supporting an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix according to various aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 100 includes a base station 105, a UE 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, an advanced LTE (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, or a new radio (NR) network. In some cases, the wireless communication system 100 may support enhanced broadband communications, ultra-reliable (e.g., mission-critical) communications, low latency communications, or communications with low-cost and low-complexity devices.

[0089] The base station 105 may communicate wirelessly with the UE 115 via one or more base station antennas. The base station 105 described herein may include or may be referred to by those skilled in the art as a base transceiver station, a radio base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a Node B, an evolved Node B (eNB), a next generation Node B, or a Gigabit Node B (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a Home Node B, a Home Evolved Node B, or some other suitable terminology. The wireless communication system 100 may include different types of base stations 105 (e.g., macro cell base stations or small cell base stations). The UE 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of base stations 105 and network equipment (including macro eNBs, small cell eNBs, gNBs, relay base stations, etc.).

[0090] Each base station 105 may be associated with a particular geographic coverage area 110 in which it supports communications with various UEs 115. Each base station 105 may provide communications coverage for a respective geographic coverage area 110 via a communications link 125, and the communications link 125 between the base station 105 and the UE 115 may utilize one or more carriers. The communications link 125 shown in the wireless communication system 100 may include an uplink transmission from the UE 115 to the base station 105, or a downlink transmission from the base station 105 to the UE 115. Downlink transmissions may also be referred to as forward link transmissions, and uplink transmissions may also be referred to as reverse link transmissions.

[0091] The geographic coverage area 110 of the base station 105 may be divided into sectors that constitute a portion of the geographic coverage area 110, and each sector may be associated with a cellular cell. For example, each base station 105 may provide communication coverage for a macrocellular cell, a small cellular cell, a hotspot, or other types of cellular cells, or various combinations thereof. In some examples, the base station 105 may be mobile and therefore provide communication coverage for a mobile geographic coverage area 110. In some examples, different geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, and the overlapping geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by the same base station 105 or different base stations 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous LTE / LTE-A / LTE-A Pro or NR network, in which different types of base stations 105 provide coverage for various geographic coverage areas 110.

[0092] The term "cell" refers to a logical communication entity used to communicate with base station 105 (e.g., on a carrier), and may be associated with an identifier to distinguish adjacent cells operating via the same or different carriers (e.g., physical cell identifier (PCID), virtual cell identifier (VCID)). In some examples, a carrier may support multiple cells, and different cells may be configured according to different protocol types that may provide access to different types of devices (e.g., machine type communication (MTC), narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), or others). In some cases, the term "cell" may refer to a portion (e.g., a sector) of a geographic coverage area 110 on which the logical entity operates.

[0093] Each UE 115 can be dispersed throughout the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 can be stationary or mobile. UE 115 can also be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable term, wherein "device" can also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client. UE 115 can be a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 can also refer to a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or an MTC device, etc., which can be implemented in various items (such as electrical appliances, vehicles, meters, etc.).

[0094] Some UEs 115, such as MTC or IoT devices, may be low-cost or low-complexity devices and may provide automated communication between machines (e.g., via machine-to-machine (M2M) communication). M2M communication or MTC may refer to data communication technology that allows devices to communicate with each other or with a base station 105 without human intervention. In some examples, M2M communication or MTC may include communications from devices that integrate sensors or meters to measure or capture information and relay the information to a central server or application, which may utilize the information or present the information to a person interacting with the program or application. Some UEs 115 may be designed to collect information or implement automated behavior of machines. Examples of applications for MTC devices include: smart metering, inventory monitoring, water level monitoring, equipment monitoring, health care monitoring, field survival monitoring, weather and geographic event monitoring, queue management and tracking, remote security sensing, physical access control, and transaction-based commercial charging.

[0095] Some UEs 115 may be configured to employ a reduced power consumption mode of operation, such as half-duplex communication (e.g., a mode that supports unidirectional communication via transmission or reception but not simultaneous transmission and reception). In some examples, half-duplex communication may be performed with a reduced peak rate. Other power saving techniques for UE 115 include entering a power saving "deep sleep" mode when not engaged in active communications, or operating over a limited bandwidth (e.g., in accordance with narrowband communications). In some cases, UE 115 may be designed to support critical functions (e.g., mission critical functions), and the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to provide ultra-reliable communications for these functions.

[0096] In some cases, UE 115 may also be able to communicate directly with other UE 115 (e.g., using a peer-to-peer (P2P) or device-to-device (D2D) protocol). One or more UEs in a group of UEs 115 utilizing D2D communication may be within the geographic coverage area 110 of the base station 105. Other UEs 115 in such a group may be outside the geographic coverage area 110 of the base station 105, or may not be able to receive transmissions from the base station 105 for other reasons. In some cases, each group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may utilize a one-to-many (1:M) system, in which each UE 115 transmits to each other UE 115 in the group. In some cases, the base station 105 facilitates the scheduling of resources for D2D communication. In other cases, D2D communication is performed between each UE 115 without involving the base station 105.

[0097] The base stations 105 may communicate with the core network 130 and with each other. For example, the base stations 105 may interface with the core network 130 via a backhaul link 132 (e.g., via S1, N2, N3, or other interfaces). The base stations 105 may communicate with each other over a backhaul link 134 (e.g., via X2, Xn, or other interfaces) directly (e.g., directly between the base stations 105) or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130).

[0098] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC), which may include at least one mobility management entity (MME), at least one serving gateway (S-GW), and at least one packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW). The MME may manage non-access layer (e.g., control plane) functions such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management of UEs 115 served by base stations 105 associated with the EPC. User IP packets may be delivered through the S-GW, which itself may be connected to the P-GW. The P-GW may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The P-GW may be connected to network operator IP services. Operator IP services may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), or packet switched (PS) streaming services.

[0099] At least some network devices (such as base stations 105) may include subcomponents, such as access network entities, which may be examples of access node controllers (ANCs). Each access network entity may communicate with each UE 115 through a number of other access network transport entities, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission / reception points (TRPs). In some configurations, the various functions of each access network entity or base station 105 may be distributed across various network devices (e.g., radio heads and access network controllers) or merged into a single network device (e.g., base station 105).

[0100] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands, typically in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). In general, the 300 MHz to 3 GHz region is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelengths are in the range of from about 1 decimeter to 1 meter long. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features. However, these waves may penetrate various structures sufficiently for macro cells to provide services to UEs 115 located indoors. Transmission of UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 km) compared to transmission using lower frequencies and longer waves in the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portion of the spectrum below 300 MHz.

[0101] The wireless communication system 100 may also operate in the Super High Frequency (SHF) region using frequency bands from 3 GHz to 30 GHz, also known as centimeter bands. The SHF region includes frequency bands that may be opportunistically used by devices that may be able to tolerate interference from other users, such as the 5 GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band.

[0102] The wireless communication system 100 may also operate in the extremely high frequency (EHF) division of the spectrum (e.g., from 30 GHz to 300 GHz), which is also referred to as the millimeter band. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support millimeter wave (mmW) communications between the UE 115 and the base station 105, and the EHF antenna of the corresponding device may be even smaller and more closely spaced than the UHF antenna. In some cases, this may facilitate the use of antenna arrays within the UE 115. However, the propagation of EHF transmissions may be subject to even greater atmospheric attenuation and shorter range than SHF or UHF transmissions. The technology disclosed herein may be adopted across transmissions using one or more different frequency divisions, and the use of frequency bands specified across these frequency divisions may differ by country or regulatory agency.

[0103] In some cases, the wireless communication system 100 may utilize both licensed and unlicensed radio frequency spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may employ license assisted access (LAA), LTE unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology in an unlicensed band (such as a 5 GHz ISM band). When operating in an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, wireless devices (such as base stations 105 and UE 115) may employ a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure to ensure that the frequency channel is clear before transmitting data. In some cases, operations in unlicensed bands may be based on carrier aggregation configuration (e.g., LAA) in coordination with component carriers operating in licensed bands. Operations in unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, peer-to-peer transmissions, or a combination of these. Duplexing in unlicensed spectrum may be based on frequency division duplexing (FDD), time division duplexing (TDD), or a combination of the two.

[0104] In some examples, the base station 105 or the UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which may be used to employ techniques such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication, or beamforming. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may use a transmission scheme between a transmitting device (e.g., the base station 105) and a receiving device (e.g., the UE 115), wherein the transmitting device is equipped with multiple antennas and the receiving device is equipped with one or more antennas. MIMO communication may employ multipath signal propagation to increase spectral efficiency by transmitting or receiving multiple signals via different spatial layers, which may be referred to as spatial multiplexing. For example, the transmitting device may transmit multiple signals via different antennas or different antenna combinations. Similarly, the receiving device may receive multiple signals via different antennas or different antenna combinations. Each of these multiple signals may be referred to as a separate spatial stream and may carry bits associated with the same data stream (e.g., the same codeword) or different data streams. Different spatial layers may be associated with different antenna ports for channel measurement and reporting. MIMO technology includes single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are transmitted to the same receiving device, and multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are transmitted to multiple devices.

[0105] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a base station 105 or a UE 115) to shape or direct an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam or a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals communicated via antenna elements of an antenna array so that signals propagating at a particular orientation relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals communicated via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying a particular amplitude and phase shift to the signal carried via each antenna element associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each antenna element may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular orientation (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device, or relative to some other orientation).

[0106] In one example, the base station 105 may use multiple antennas or antenna arrays to perform beamforming operations for directional communication with the UE 115. For example, some signals (e.g., synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) may be transmitted multiple times by the base station 105 in different directions, which may include a signal being transmitted according to different beamforming weight sets associated with different transmission directions. The transmissions in different beam directions may be used (e.g., by the base station 105 or a receiving device, such as the UE 115) to identify the beam direction used by the base station 105 for subsequent transmission and / or reception.

[0107] Some signals, such as data signals associated with a particular recipient device, may be transmitted by base station 105 in a single beam direction (e.g., a direction associated with a recipient device, such as UE 115). In some examples, a beam direction associated with transmissions along a single beam direction may be determined based at least in part on signals transmitted in different beam directions. For example, UE 115 may receive one or more signals transmitted by base station 105 in different directions, and UE 115 may report to base station 105 an indication of the signals received by it with the highest signal quality or other acceptable signal quality. Although these techniques are described with reference to signals transmitted by base station 105 in one or more directions, UE 115 may use similar techniques for transmitting signals multiple times in different directions (e.g., for identifying a beam direction used by UE 115 for subsequent transmission or reception) or for transmitting signals in a single direction (e.g., for transmitting data to a recipient device).

[0108] A receiving device (e.g., UE 115, which may be an example of a mmW receiving device) may try multiple receive beams when receiving various signals (such as synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) from base station 105. For example, the receiving device may try multiple receive directions by receiving via different antenna subarrays, processing received signals according to different antenna subarrays, receiving according to different receive beamforming weight sets applied to signals received at a set of antenna elements of an antenna array, or processing received signals according to different receive beamforming weight sets applied to signals received at a set of antenna elements of an antenna array, any of which may be referred to as "listening" according to different receive beams or receive directions. In some examples, the receiving device may use a single receive beam to receive along a single beam direction (e.g., when receiving a data signal). The single receive beam may be aligned on a beam direction determined based on listening according to different receive beam directions (e.g., a beam direction determined to have the highest signal strength, the highest signal-to-noise ratio, or other acceptable signal quality based on listening according to multiple beam directions).

[0109] In some cases, the antennas of a base station 105 or a UE 115 may be located within one or more antenna arrays that may support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly, such as an antenna tower. In some cases, the antennas or antenna arrays associated with a base station 105 may be located at different geographic locations. A base station 105 may have an antenna array having several rows and columns of antenna ports that the base station 105 may use to support beamforming for communications with a UE 115. Similarly, a UE 115 may have one or more antenna arrays that may support various MIMO or beamforming operations.

[0110] In some cases, the wireless communication system 100 may be a packet-based network that operates according to a layered protocol stack. In the user plane, the communication of the bearer or packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer may be IP-based. The radio link control (RLC) layer may perform packet segmentation and reassembly to communicate on a logical channel. The media access control (MAC) layer may perform priority handling and multiplex logical channels into transport channels. The MAC layer may also use a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) to provide retransmission of the MAC layer, thereby improving link efficiency. In the control plane, the radio resource control (RRC) protocol layer may provide the establishment, configuration and maintenance of an RRC connection for a radio bearer that supports user plane data between UE115 and base station 105 or core network 130. At the physical layer, transport channels may be mapped to physical channels.

[0111] In some cases, UE 115 and base station 105 may support retransmission of data to increase the likelihood that the data is successfully received. HARQ feedback is a technique that increases the likelihood of correctly receiving data on communication link 125. HARQ may include a combination of error detection (e.g., using cyclic redundancy check (CRC)), forward error correction (FEC), and retransmission (e.g., automatic repeat request (ARQ)). HARQ can improve the throughput of the MAC layer in poor radio conditions (e.g., signal-to-noise ratio conditions). In some cases, a wireless device may support simultaneous slot HARQ feedback, where the device may provide HARQ feedback in a specific time slot for data received in a previous symbol in the time slot. In other cases, the device may provide HARQ feedback in a subsequent time slot or according to some other time interval.

[0112] The time interval in LTE or NR can be represented by a basic time unit (which may refer to a sampling period T for example). s =1 / 30,720,000 seconds). The time intervals of the communication resources may be organized according to radio frames each having a duration of 10 milliseconds (ms), where the frame period may be expressed as T f =307,200T s . A radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) ranging from 0 to 1023. Each frame may include 10 subframes numbered from 0 to 9, and each subframe may have a duration of 1 ms. A subframe may be further divided into 2 time slots, each having a duration of 0.5 ms, and each time slot may contain 6 or 7 modulation codeword periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix added before each codeword period). Excluding the cyclic prefix, each codeword period may contain 2048 sampling periods. In some cases, a subframe may be the minimum scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In other cases, the minimum scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be shorter than a subframe or may be dynamically selected (e.g., in a burst of a shortened TTI (sTTI) or in a selected component carrier using sTTI).

[0113] In some wireless communication systems, a time slot may be further divided into a plurality of mini-slots containing one or more symbols. In some instances, a symbol of a mini-slot or a mini-slot may be the minimum scheduling unit. For example, each symbol may vary in duration depending on the subcarrier spacing or the operating frequency band. Further, some wireless communication systems may implement time slot aggregation, wherein a plurality of time slots or mini-slots are aggregated together and used for communication between UE 115 and base station 105.

[0114] The term "carrier" refers to a set of radio frequency spectrum resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting communications on the communication link 125. For example, a carrier of the communication link 125 may include a portion of a radio frequency spectrum band that operates according to a physical layer channel for a given radio access technology. Each physical layer channel may carry user data, control information, or other signaling. A carrier may be associated with a predefined frequency channel (e.g., an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number (EARFCN)) and may be located according to a channel grid for discovery by a UE 115. A carrier may be downlink or uplink (e.g., in FDD mode), or configured to carry downlink communications and uplink communications (e.g., in TDD mode). In some examples, a signal waveform transmitted on a carrier may include multiple subcarriers (e.g., using a multi-carrier modulation (MCM) technique such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)).

[0115] For different radio access technologies (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR), the organizational structure of the carrier can be different. For example, the communication on the carrier can be organized according to TTIs or time slots, each of which can include user data and control information or signaling to support decoding of the user data. The carrier can also include dedicated acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals or system information, etc.) and control signaling to coordinate the operation of the carrier. In some examples (e.g., in a carrier aggregation configuration), the carrier may also have acquisition signaling or control signaling to coordinate the operation of other carriers.

[0116] Physical channels may be multiplexed on a carrier according to various techniques. Physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed on a downlink carrier, for example, using a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. In some examples, control information transmitted in a physical control channel may be distributed in a cascaded manner between different control regions (e.g., between a common control region or a common search space and one or more UE-specific control regions or UE-specific search spaces).

[0117] A carrier may be associated with a particular bandwidth of the radio frequency spectrum, and in some examples, the carrier bandwidth may be referred to as the "system bandwidth" of the carrier or wireless communication system 100. For example, the carrier bandwidth may be one of a plurality of predetermined bandwidths of a carrier for a particular radio access technology (e.g., 1.4, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 40, or 80 MHz). In some examples, each served UE 115 may be configured to operate on part or all of the carrier bandwidth. In other examples, some UEs 115 may be configured to operate using a narrowband protocol type associated with a predefined portion or range (e.g., a set of subcarriers or RBs) within a carrier (e.g., an "in-band" deployment of a narrowband protocol type).

[0118] In a system using MCM technology, a resource element may include a symbol period (e.g., the duration of a modulation symbol) and a subcarrier, where the symbol period and the subcarrier spacing are inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme). Thus, the more resource elements received by UE 115 and the higher the order of the modulation scheme, the higher the data rate of UE 115 can be. In a MIMO system, wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of radio frequency spectrum resources, time resources, and space resources (e.g., space layers), and the use of multiple space layers may further increase the data rate of communication with UE 115.

[0119] A device (e.g., base station 105 or UE 115) of wireless communication system 100 may have a hardware configuration that supports communication on a particular carrier bandwidth, or may be configurable to support communication on one of a set of carrier bandwidths. In some examples, wireless communication system 100 may include base stations 105 and / or UEs 115 that support simultaneous communication via carriers associated with more than one different carrier bandwidths.

[0120] The wireless communication system 100 may support communication with the UE 115 on multiple cells or carriers, a feature that may be referred to as carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. The UE 115 may be configured with multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers according to a carrier aggregation configuration. Carrier aggregation may be used with both FDD and TDD component carriers.

[0121] In some cases, the wireless communication system 100 may utilize an enhanced component carrier (eCC). An eCC may be characterized by one or more features including a wider carrier or frequency channel bandwidth, a shorter symbol duration, a shorter TTI duration, or a modified control channel configuration. In some cases, an eCC may be associated with a carrier aggregation configuration or a dual connectivity configuration (e.g., when multiple serving cells have suboptimal or non-ideal backhaul links). An eCC may also be configured for use in an unlicensed spectrum or a shared spectrum (e.g., where more than one operator is allowed to use the spectrum). An eCC characterized by a wide carrier bandwidth may include one or more segments that may be utilized by a UE 115 that is not capable of monitoring the entire carrier bandwidth or is otherwise configured to use a limited carrier bandwidth (e.g., to save power).

[0122] In some cases, an eCC may utilize a different symbol duration than other component carriers, which may include using a reduced symbol duration compared to the symbol duration of other component carriers. A shorter symbol duration may be associated with an increased spacing between adjacent subcarriers. A device utilizing an eCC (such as a UE 115 or a base station 105) may transmit a wideband signal (e.g., according to a frequency channel or carrier bandwidth of 20, 40, 60, 80 MHz, etc.) with a reduced symbol duration (e.g., 16.67 microseconds). A TTI in an eCC may include one or more symbol periods. In some cases, the TTI duration (i.e., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable.

[0123] The wireless communication system 100 may be an NR system that may utilize any combination of licensed, shared, and unlicensed spectrum bands, etc. The flexibility of eCC symbol duration and subcarrier spacing may allow eCC to be used across multiple spectrums. In some examples, NR shared spectrum may improve spectrum utilization and spectrum efficiency, particularly through dynamic vertical (e.g., across frequency domain) and horizontal (e.g., across time domain) sharing of resources.

[0124] Additionally, as described herein, the wireless communication system 100 can use CP to provide a protection period at the beginning of each OFDMA symbol, which provides protection against multipath delay spread. The CP can be generated by copying the end of the body of the OFDMA symbol to the beginning of the OFDMA symbol so that the frequency domain representation of each delay spread component within the FFT processing window is the same. Both the normal CP (NCP) length and the ECP length can be specified in the system. In some cases, the NCP may be intended to be sufficient for most scenarios, and the ECP may be intended to be sufficient for scenarios with relatively high delay spread.

[0125] In some wireless communication systems (e.g., NR unlicensed (NR-U) communications), ECP may be used to create a gap of a specific duration (e.g., 16 μs, 25 μs, etc.) to meet regulatory or specification requirements for gaps between base station 105 and UE 115 transmissions and / or to create a listen-before-talk (LBT) gap for UE 115 prior to a transmission by UE 115. For example, UE 115 may transmit an ECP for a first allocated physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) symbol (e.g., an uplink channel symbol, a first symbol of one or more symbols of an uplink channel, an OFDMA symbol, etc.). For a scheduled PUSCH (e.g., a scheduled uplink (SUL)), an ECP amount (e.g., an ECP duration) may be indicated in an uplink grant for the scheduled PUSCH. In some cases, the ECP amount may also depend on a TA at UE 115 (e.g., the base station 105 may not be aware of the TA).

[0126] Additionally or alternatively, for a configured grant PUSCH (CG-PUSCH) (e.g., for resource overload), a specific starting offset or a starting offset set (e.g., from which the UE 115 randomly selects the starting offset to be used) may be provided to the UE 115, which provides a starting point / pilot starting symbol before normal PUSCH data. In some cases, the ECP of the first symbol may be used to transmit between the starting point offset to the first symbol of the PUSCH. In this way, multiple UEs 115 that transmit occasionally (e.g., based on corresponding configured grants) may be assigned the same resources. For example, conflicts when two UEs 115 attempt to transmit on the same resource may be avoided by having different starting offsets for the two UEs 115 (e.g., in combination with an LBT procedure). In some cases, a UE 115 having an earlier starting point for transmission may cause a LBT failure for a UE 115 having a later starting point, and conflicts may therefore be reduced.

[0127] In some cases, for the ECP at least prior to a dynamically scheduled PUSCH transmission, the ECP may be located in one or more symbols immediately prior to the PUSCH allocation (e.g., as indicated by a start and length indicator value (SLIV)). The ECP duration supported at UE 115 may be zero (0) (e.g., no extension of the CP is supported), C1*symbol length–25 μs; C2*symbol length–16 μs–TA, or C3*symbol length–25 μs–TA. Accordingly, C1 may be equal to one (1) for a 15 kHz subcarrier spacing (SCS) and for a 30 kHz SCS, or two (2) for a 60 kHz SCS. Additionally, C2 and / or C3 may be fixed constants or may be implicitly derived based on the TA for each SCS. In some cases, the timeline indicating the minimum number of symbols between uplink grants to the indicated PUSCH (e.g., N2 timeline, N2 symbols, uplink grant to physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) delay, etc.) may be relaxed to account for the ECP. In some cases, for a given SCS, the restriction defining the resulting ECP may be less than or equal to one (1) symbol, or may be relaxed (e.g., greater than one (1) symbol). Additionally, the ECP may be used for other uplink transmissions. In some cases, the number of durations of the ECP that the UE 115 may use may be dynamically signaled or may be configurable.

[0128] However, based on the use of the ECP, different issues may arise, such as the UE 115 may have limitations on ECP duration support that are unknown to the network (e.g., base station 105), the UE 115 may be expected to transmit an uplink channel at a time that is not achievable with the ECP, and / or the UE 115 may be expected to transmit and / or multiplex UCI in an uplink channel as the timeline becomes more tight with the ECP.

[0129] The wireless communication system 100 can support efficient techniques for using ECP. For example, a new UE capability can be introduced for UE 115 to indicate support for ECP, wherein the duration of the ECP or the determination to transmit the ECP is based on the UE capability. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 115 can receive an uplink grant for transmitting an uplink message at symbol N with an indication of the ECP, and the UE 115 can determine whether to comply with the uplink grant based on a timeline of symbols before symbol N, wherein the timeline is based on the minimum number of symbols required by the UE 115 between receiving the uplink grant and symbol N (e.g., N2 symbols), the ECP, and the TA. Additionally or alternatively, the uplink channel allocation indicated in the uplink grant can include a starting point in the allocation containing the ECP so that the UE 115 starts transmitting the ECP at the start indicated by the allocation. In some cases, UE 115 may multiplex UCI in an uplink channel based on a timeline (e.g., Z') that is further based on the minimum number of symbols (Z), ECP, and TA required between receipt of a triggering event for the UCI and the start of the uplink channel for transmitting the UCI.

[0130] Figure 2 An example of a wireless communication system 200 that supports uplink channel timelines with extended cyclic prefixes according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. The wireless communication system 200 can include a base station 105-a and a UE 115-a, which can be respectively described above with reference to Figure 1 The examples of corresponding base stations 105 and UEs 115 are described. In some cases, the base station 105-a and the UE 115-a may communicate on resources of the carrier 205. Additionally, the carrier 205 may include resources in an unlicensed band (e.g., NR-U communications).

[0131] As described herein, the UE 115-a may transmit an indication of an ECP capability 210 (e.g., UE capabilities to support ECP) to the base station 105-a. For example, the UE 115-a may have a limit on how many ECPs the UE 115-a may support and may indicate the limit in the ECP capability 210. Accordingly, the ECP capability 210 may include the UE capability of the amount of ECP supported (e.g., ECP duration). For example, the amount of ECP supported may be an absolute time unit (e.g., seconds), a number of symbols (e.g., one (1) symbol, two (2) symbols, etc.), or a combination thereof. Additionally, the capabilities of the amount of ECP supported may be different for different SCSs (e.g., the same duration in time but different numbers of OFDM symbols for different SCSs) or may be the same for all SCSs. For example, for any SCS, the amount of ECP supported may be one (1) codeword, or for a 15kHz SCS, the amount of ECP supported may be one (1) codeword, for a 30kHz SCS, the amount of ECP supported may be two (2) codewords, and so on.

[0132] Additionally or alternatively, the base station 105-a may configure (e.g., via RRC signaling) a set of offsets that are within the limits indicated by the ECP capabilities 210. For example, the base station 105-a may configure a set of offsets that are lower than the ECP duration limit indicated by the ECP capabilities 210 (e.g., UE capabilities), and the UE 115-a may use one of these offsets or the indicated offset when transmitting an ECP followed by an uplink signal. In some cases, the set of offsets may be configured or available to the UE 115-a (e.g., via RRC signaling from the base station 105-a) without taking into account the ECP capabilities 210, and the UE 115-a may select an ECP duration from a subset of the set of offsets, where the subset is also within the ECP capabilities 210. For example, the full set of available offsets may be 0, 9, 18, ..., 72 μs (eg, in 9 μs increments up to 72 μs), but the UE 115 - a may randomly select from 0 to 36 μs based on the ECP capabilities 210 including a 36 μs limit on the ECP duration.

[0133] like Figure 2As shown in , after the ECP capability is transmitted to the base station 105-a, the base station 105-a and the UE 115-a may subsequently communicate on resources of the carrier 205 based on the ECP 230 included when the UE 115-a transmits to the base station 105-a. For example, the base station 105-a may transmit one or more downlink signals 215 to the UE 115-a. In some cases, the downlink signal 215 may include an uplink grant 220 indicating that the UE 115-a is to transmit at least one uplink signal 235. However, before transmitting the one or more uplink signals 235, the UE 115-a may perform LBT 225 (e.g., LBT procedures, clear channel assessment (CCA), etc.) based on communicating with the base station 105-a in an unlicensed band (e.g., unlicensed band, NR-U, etc.). For example, the LBT 225 may include the UE 115-a monitoring the uplink resources indicated by the uplink grant 220 for transmitting the one or more uplink signals 235 to determine whether the channel is clear before attempting to transmit on these uplink resources. Accordingly, if the UE 115-a detects a signal (e.g., above a threshold power value, for example) on these uplink resources during the LBT 225, the UE 115-a may refrain from transmitting the uplink signal 235. Alternatively, if the UE 115-a does not detect a signal, the UE 115-a may continue to transmit the uplink signal 235.

[0134] However, before transmitting the uplink signal 235 after determining that the LBT 225 is successful (e.g., these resources are available / unblocked), the UE 115-a may first transmit the ECP 230 based on the previously transmitted ECP capability 210. Subsequently, after transmitting the ECP 230, the UE 115-a may then transmit the uplink signal(s) 235 indicated by the uplink grant 220.

[0135] Each of the downlink signal(s) 215, LBT 225, ECP 230, and uplink signal(s) 235 may have a corresponding duration. For example, downlink signal(s) 215 and uplink signal(s) 235 may have duration 240 and duration 255, respectively, which are divided into time slots including a plurality of symbols, wherein the length of the symbols depends on the SCS, the slot type (e.g., mini slot, regular slot, etc.), etc. In some cases, the length of a symbol in a time slot may be defined as T sBased on the transmit ECP 230, the number of symbols in the time slot of duration 240 or duration 255 may be 12 symbols. Additionally, LBT 225 may have a duration 245 based on the type of LBT performed (e.g., 16 μs, 25 μs, etc.). Subsequently, the duration 250 of ECP 230 may be defined as the length of symbols in a time slot minus duration 245 (e.g., the length of LBT 225). For example, for an LBT duration of 25 μs, duration 250 may be equal to Ts-25 μs.

[0136] In some cases, the UE 115-a may use a timing advance TA 260 when transmitting the uplink signal(s) 235. For example, the UE 115-a and the base station 105-a may experience propagation delays for communications (e.g., uplink and downlink transmissions) therebetween. Accordingly, an uplink grant 220 may be transmitted by the base station 105-a granting the UE 115-a access to resources for the uplink signal(s) 235. The UE 115-a may then utilize the granted resources, but may apply a timing advance so that the uplink signal(s) arrive at the base station 105-a at the desired time. The timing advance (e.g., TA 260) may be indicated in a TA command sent by the base station 105-a to the UE 115-a. Accordingly, TA 260 may indicate a timing advance (or negative delay) for uplink signal(s) 235 relative to received downlink timing (e.g., uplink grant 220 in downlink signal(s) 215) in order to ensure the same uplink receive timing at base station 105-a (e.g., to align arrival times of multiple uplink transmissions, e.g., to different base stations 105). As such, when transmitting TA 260, duration 250 of ECP 230 may be affected. For example, duration 250 may be equal to Ts-25 μs-TA.

[0137] Additionally, in some cases, UE 115-a may have a buffer limitation that affects the transmission of ECP 230 and uplink signal(s) 235. For example, UE 115-a may have a buffer limitation on the length of data for transmission for a given grant. As an example, if UE 115-a is limited to holding one (1) time slot of data for uplink signal(s) 235 and uplink grant 220 indicates an allocation of one (1) time slot, when UE 115-a transmits ECP 230, the length of uplink signal(s) 235 plus ECP 230 may exceed the one (1) time slot limitation.

[0138] Accordingly, the length of the uplink signal(s) 235 (e.g., duration 255) indicated by the uplink grant 220 plus the ECP 230 (e.g., duration 250) may be limited to a maximum of one (1) time slot or two (2) time slots, or may be the configured UE capability. That is, the duration 250 plus the duration 255 may not exceed one (1) time slot or two (2) time slots. For example, when the ECP 230 is enabled to be transmitted, the length of the PUSCH indicated in the uplink grant 220 may be appropriately reduced based on the UE capability (e.g., the limitation of holding data) so that the total duration of the uplink signal(s) 235 and the ECP 230 does not exceed the UE capability. Additionally or alternatively, the start of the combined ECP 230 and uplink signal(s) 235 (e.g., ECP+PUSCH) may not cross a time slot boundary. Additionally, the end of the uplink signal(s) 235 (eg, PUSCH) may not cross a slot boundary and / or the combination of the ECP 230 and the uplink signal(s) 235 (eg, ECP+PUSCH) may be within a slot.

[0139] In some cases, the UE 115-a may determine whether to transmit the ECP 230 and the uplink signal(s) 235 based on information included in the uplink grant 220. For example, the uplink grant 220 may include an indication of the ECP 230 (e.g., the duration 250 of the ECP 230, an indication for transmitting the ECP 230, etc.). Accordingly, the UE 115-a may determine whether to transmit the uplink signal(s) 235 (and the ECP 230) based on when the uplink grant 220 is received prior to the indicated start of the uplink signal(s) 235, transmitting the ECP 230, performing the LBT 225, etc. In some cases, the uplink grant 220 may include an indication of an uplink resource allocation for the UE 115-a to transmit both the ECP 230 and the uplink signal(s) 235. For example, UE 115-a may transmit ECP 230 followed by uplink signal(s) 235 beginning at an indication of an uplink resource allocation.

[0140] Figure 3 An example of an ECP duration 300 supporting an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the ECP duration 300 can implement aspects of the wireless communication systems 100 and / or 200. The UE 115 can use the ECP duration 300 when transmitting the ECP 310 prior to transmitting an uplink signal to the base station 105 in the time slot 305.

[0141] Conventionally, the start time offset may be applied by the UE 115 at the beginning of a transmitted burst with a configured grant (CG) resource at the beginning of the transmission burst. For example, as shown, the ECP 310 may be added before a time slot 305 configured to deliver uplink signals from the UE 115 to the base station 105. In some cases, the start time offset may be RRC configurable and defined as the length of the ECP 310 of the first symbol preceding the configured resource (e.g., time slot 305). Regardless of the SCS, the duration of the ECP 310 may be up to 72 μs with a granularity of nine (9) μs.

[0142] In some cases, multiple UEs 115 may be granted transmission on the same time slot 305, and each UE 115 may select a different starting offset in the ECP 310. Since each UE 115 may need to perform LBT before transmission, the UE 115 that starts earlier will block the later UE 115. Accordingly, the CG-PUSCH resources may be overbooked (e.g., not all UEs 115 want to use the resource at a given time). Since the ECP 310 is transmitted before the configured resources (e.g., time slot 305), problems may occur with the CG-PUSCH. For example, the timeline for multiplexing UCI with the CG-PUSCH may be affected by the ECP 310, and / or the UE capability may need to indicate the length of the ECP 310 that can be supported. Thus, the techniques described herein can alleviate these problems.

[0143] Figure 4 An example of an uplink channel scheduling timeline 400 that supports an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the uplink channel scheduling timeline 400 can implement aspects of the wireless communication systems 100 and / or 200. As described herein, the UE 115 can use the uplink channel scheduling timeline 400 when transmitting an uplink signal along with the ECP 415 to the base station 105. In some cases, the UE 115 can use the uplink channel scheduling timeline 400 for SUL transmissions.

[0144] Conventionally, for a PUSCH scheduling timeline without ECP 415, UE 115 may be expected to transmit PUSCH at symbol N if an uplink grant is received (e.g., given) at least N2 symbols earlier than symbol N (where N2 depends on UE capabilities). However, UE 115 may not be able to meet the same timeline of N2 symbols if UE 115 transmits ECP 415. Additionally, N2 capabilities may not take TA 430 into account.

[0145] Accordingly, to mitigate this problem, the UE 115 may receive an uplink grant 405 (e.g., having a duration of symbol M) including an indication of the ECP 415, wherein the uplink grant 405 indicates that the UE 115 begins transmitting the uplink signal 420 at symbol N (e.g., the starting point without regard to the ECP 415). For example, the indication of the ECP 415 may include an indication of the duration 425 of the ECP 415 (e.g., the duration 425 of the ECP 415 may be equal to 0.5 symbol, one (1) symbol-25 μs, two (2) symbols-TA-25 μs, ..., etc.). Additionally, the duration 425 of the ECP 415 may be a fraction of a symbol. In some cases, the UE 115 may also perform the LBT 410 before transmitting the ECP 415 and the uplink signal 420. Additionally, in some cases, UE 115 may use TA 430 when transmitting uplink signal 420. Uplink signal 420 may include a duration T s (e.g., the length of a symbol in a time slot).

[0146] Subsequently, if the uplink grant 405 is received at least a number of symbols before symbol N, the UE 115 may determine to comply with the uplink grant 405 (e.g., transmit the uplink signal 420 and the ECP 415 as indicated in the uplink grant 405). In some cases, the number of symbols may be the timeline 435 capability of the UE 115 given by f(N2,ECP,TA). For example, f(N2,ECP,TA)=N2+ECP or f(N2,ECP,TA)=N2+ceil(ECP) or f(N2,ECP,TA)=N2+ECP+TA or f(N2,ECP,TA)=N2+ceil(ECP+TA) or f(N2,ECP,TA)=N2+ceil(max(ECP+TA)) or f(N2,ECP,TA)=N2+ceil(ECP). The maximum value may be among all possible values of ECP and / or TA (e.g., multiple ECPs or CG-PUSCH start offsets may be preconfigured for UE selection, and the maximum value may be among all of these ECPs). In some cases, different ceil(x) parameters may represent a ceiling function that accepts a real input (e.g., a decimal number in some cases) calculated by x and outputs an integer greater than or equal to the real input (e.g., the ceiling function rounds the real number up to the maximum integer of the real input, such as 2.4 becomes 3 or 2.8 also becomes 3). In some cases, f(N2,ECP,TA) may be RRC preconfigured (e.g., semi-statically configured). For example, the RRC preconfiguration may indicate f(N2,ECP,TA)=N2+2, where two (2) (e.g., from N2+2) is the maximum possible TA+ECP, and may be independent of uplink grant 405 / ECP 415 / TA 430.

[0147] Additionally or alternatively, even if the uplink grant 405 is received between earlier than N2 to N2+f(N2,ECP,TA), the UE 115 may determine to comply with the uplink grant 405, but may transmit the ECP 415 in a reduced duration (e.g., with respect to the duration 425 indicated in the uplink grant 405) depending on when the uplink grant 405 is received. For example, if the uplink grant 405 is received N2+TA+ECP / 2 earlier than symbol N, the UE 115 may transmit the ECP 415 with a duration of ECP / 2 (e.g., half of the duration 425 indicated in the uplink grant 405). When reducing the duration of the ECP 415 to accommodate the timeline 435, if an additional gap is generated before the ECP 415, the UE 115 may change the LBT type of the LBT 410 to meet the regulations for channel access. For example, when UE 115 is configured for no LBT (e.g., not performing LBT 410) or for 16 μs gaps for LBT 410 and an additional gap is created with a reduced ECP 415, UE 115 may determine to perform 25 μs of LBT (e.g., Class 2 LBT) before transmitting ECP 415 and uplink signal 420.

[0148] Figure 5A and 5B Examples of uplink channel allocations 500 and 501 that support uplink channel timelines with extended cyclic prefixes in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated. In some examples, uplink channel allocations 500 and 501 can implement aspects of wireless communication systems 100 and / or 200. As described herein, UE 115 can use uplink channel allocations 500 and 501 when transmitting uplink signals and ECP 515 to base station 105. Additionally, uplink channel allocations 500 and 501 can be used to mitigate the above-referenced Figure 4 The described problem is for the PUSCH scheduling timeline. For example, uplink channel allocations 500 and 501 may represent PUSCH allocations / starting points in an allocation that includes ECP 515.

[0149] As shown, the base station 105 may transmit an uplink grant 505 including a PUSCH allocation including a complete UE transmission of a duration including an ECP 515. That is, the UE 115 may begin transmitting the ECP 515 at the indicated allocation start (e.g., for the next symbol of the uplink signal 520). Additionally, the UE 115 may transmit the ECP 515 after performing the LBT 510 or applying the TA 525. In some cases, the LBT 510 (e.g., LBT measurement) may be performed in a window T_lbt (e.g., T_lbt=16μs, 25μs, class 4 duration, etc., as applicable) before starting to transmit the ECP 515 and the uplink signal 520. For example, as shown in the uplink channel allocation 500, the PUSCH allocation may indicate the start of the PUSCH allocation as symbol K+25μs, where 25μs is the duration of the LBT 510. Accordingly, UE 115 may transmit the ECP 515 of uplink signal 520 of symbol K+1 in the first part of symbol K (eg, based on the fact that symbol K+25 μs is less than the length of symbol K (T s )).

[0150] Additionally or alternatively, as shown in uplink channel allocation 501, the PUSCH allocation may indicate the start of the allocation as symbol K+25μs+TA. Thus, if the total duration 530 of LBT 510 and TA 525 is greater than the length of symbol K (e.g., 25μs+TA>T s , where T s represents one (1) symbol duration), then the UE 115 may transmit the ECP 515 of the uplink signal 520 of symbol K+2 (eg, the duration 535 of the ECP 515 is equal to 2T s- That is, the ECP 515 may fill the gap between the end of the LBT 510 and the TA 525 (eg, if the TA 525 is used) and the next occurring symbol boundary for transmitting the uplink signal 520, where the ECP 515 ends at the symbol boundary before the uplink signal 520.

[0151] Additionally or alternatively, the PUSCH allocation may indicate the LBT type of the LBT 510, the start of the allocation (e.g., symbol K), and TA delay enable / disable. Subsequently, the UE 115 may determine the start of the transmission of the ECP 515 followed by the uplink signal 520 based on the above information. For example, the transmission may start at T_lbt or T_lbt+TA after the start of symbol K, where T_lbt is 0μs, 16μs, 25μs, etc., depending on the indicated LBT type. The UE 115 may then transmit the ECP 515 until the next symbol boundary. Accordingly, the UE 115 may (e.g., automatically) determine the start of the transmission of the ECP 515 followed by the uplink signal 520 based on the above information. For example, the transmission may start at T_lbt or T_lbt+TA after the start of symbol K, where T_lbt is 0μs, 16μs, 25μs, etc., depending on the indicated LBT type. s To determine the duration of ECP 515. For example, if T_lbt+TA <T s , then the duration 535 of the ECP 515 may be equal to T s -T_lbt-TA; otherwise, if T s <T_lbt+TA<2T s , then the duration 535 of ECP 515 can be 2T s =T_lbt+TA; and so on. Thus, the complete symbol for transmitting the uplink signal 520 may begin at the next symbol boundary after symbol K+T_lbt+[TA], where [TA] indicates that the addition of TA 525 is optional. Thus, the actual start of the complete symbol for the uplink signal 520 may be symbol K, symbol K+1, symbol K+2, ..., symbol K+N, depending on whether the uplink signal 520 is to be delayed by ECP 515 and / or TA 525 after symbol K.

[0152] In some cases, a transport block (TB) may be rate matched to a number of full symbols in an allocation for uplink signal(s) 520 transmission following the ECP 515. Additionally, as described above with reference to Figure 4 The described PUSCH scheduling timeline UE capabilities may be the same for UE 115 in uplink channel allocations 500 and 501. That is, if uplink grant 505 is received at least N2 or N2+TA symbols before symbol N (where N2 depends on UE capabilities), UE 115 may comply with uplink grant 505 to transmit at symbol N.

[0153] Fig. 6A and 6BAn example of UCI multiplexing timelines 600 and 601 supporting uplink channel timelines with extended cyclic prefixes according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the UCI multiplexing timelines 600 and 601 can implement aspects of the wireless communication systems 100 and / or 200. As described herein, the UE 115 can use the UCI multiplexing timelines 600 and 601 when transmitting an uplink signal and an ECP 615 to the base station 105 and when it is necessary to multiplex the UCI with at least a portion of the uplink signal. In some cases, the UE 115 can use the UCI multiplexing timelines 600 and 601 for both SUL scenarios and CG uplink (CG-UL) scenarios. Additionally, the UE 115 can perform LBT 610 before transmitting the ECP 615, the uplink signal 620, and the multiplexed UCI 635 based on communicating in an unlicensed band as described herein.

[0154] Conventionally, UE 115 may be expected to transmit on a PUSCH (eg, with duration T) based on the UE capability of Z symbols and timeline 640. s The UCI 635 is multiplexed in an uplink signal 620 of the embodiment of the present invention, wherein the event trigger 605 / UCI 635 required event occurs at least Z symbols before the PUSCH occurs (e.g., time slot N). If the UCI 635 includes an acknowledgement (ACK) / negative ACK (NACK) feedback for a downlink shared channel (e.g., a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH)) transmission, Z may be the time from the end of the downlink shared channel to the PUSCH (e.g., the PUSCH in which the UCI 635 is multiplexed). Additionally or alternatively, if the UCI 635 includes channel state information (CSI) to be multiplexed in the PUSCH, Z may be the time from a downlink control channel (e.g., a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) trigger for CSI measurement) to the start of the PUSCH, or Z may be the time from the transmission of a downlink CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) to the start of the PUSCH. In some cases, the UE capabilities for Z may be different for different UCI types and / or triggering events. However, with ECP 615 and corresponding duration 630 , the UE timeline may become more urgent, thereby affecting how UE 115 determines to multiplex UCI 635 .

[0155] As described herein, UE 115 may determine which symbol (e.g., a PUSCH symbol) in uplink signal 620 to multiplex with UCI 635 based on Z', where Z'=f(Z,ECP,TA). For example, if UE 115 is unable to multiplex UCI 635 in the first symbol of uplink signal 620 (e.g., of time slot N) (because the first symbol occurs earlier than Z'), UE 115 may multiplex UCI 635 in the next symbol (e.g., the next PUSCH symbol) of uplink signal 620. As shown in UCI multiplexing timeline 600, timeline 640 between receiving event trigger 605-a and the start of uplink signal 620 may be less than Z' such that UE 115 is unable to multiplex UCI 635 in the first symbol of time slot N for uplink signal 620. In some cases, f(Z,ECP,TA)=Z+ECP or f(Z,ECP,TA)=Z+ECP+TA or f(Z,ECP,TA)=Z+ceil(ECP+TA) (e.g., ceil(x) may represent a ceiling function as described above) or f(Z,ECP,TA)=Z+max(ECP+TA) or f(Z,ECP,TA)=Z+ceil(max(ECP)) or f(Z,ECP,TA)=Z+ceil(max(ECP+TA)). The maximum value may be among all possible values of ECP and / or TA (e.g., multiple ECP or CG-PUSCH start offsets may be preconfigured for UE selection, and max(ECP) is the maximum value among all preconfigured ECP values). Additionally, f(Z,ECP,TA) may be semi-statically signaled to the UE 115 (e.g., configured by RRC) as a constant value based on max(ECP+TA) or max(ECP). For example, f(Z,ECP,TA) = Z + 2 symbols, where the additional 2 symbols are configured by RRC. The maximum value may be among all possible values of ECP 615 (eg, different ECPs may be configured for CG-PUSCH starting offset for UE 115 to choose from).

[0156] Additionally or alternatively, if the event trigger 605 is Z' symbols before the start symbol (e.g., PUSCH symbol) of the uplink signal 620, the UE 115 can determine that UCI 635 is to be multiplexed. The value of Z'=f(Z,ECP,TA) can be the same as described above. For example, as shown in the UCI multiplexing timeline 601, the event trigger 605-b can be received before the start of the uplink signal 620 based on the symbol of the timeline 645, where the timeline 645 is equal to the duration Z plus the duration 630 of the ECP 615 (e.g., Z'=Z+ECP). Accordingly, the UE 115 can determine that the UCI 635 is to be multiplexed with the uplink signal 620 and can multiplex the UCI 635 in the first symbol of the time slot N for the uplink signal 620 based on the determination.

[0157] In some cases, the UE 115 may determine that UCI 635 is to be multiplexed with the uplink signal 620 and may multiplex UCI 635 in a later codeword of time slot N (e.g., the third codeword or the fourth codeword) because the Z' timeline is too tight (e.g., the time between the UCI triggering event and the start of time slot N is greater than Z but less than Z') to make it impossible to multiplex UCI 635 in the first codeword of time slot N used for the uplink signal 620.

[0158] In some cases, the timeline for transmission of uplink signal 620 (e.g., PUSCH) may expire due to any of the following: UCI Z timeline when UCI 635 is multiplexed with uplink signal 620 (e.g., PUSCH), which may apply to SUL and CG-UL. For example, the Z timeline may be determined based on ACK / NACK UCI for PDSCH or UCI for CSI transmission. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115 may (e.g., as described above with reference to Figure 4 The N2 timeline described) is for grant-based PUSCH (eg, applicable to SUL).

[0159] In some cases, if the event trigger 605 that causes the UCI 635 occurs between Z to Z+ECP+TA before the start of a regular symbol for an uplink signal 620 (e.g., for G-UL or SUL), the UE 115 may not know how to simultaneously process and prepare both the UCI 635 and the uplink signal 620. Additionally or alternatively, if an uplink grant for the uplink signal 620 (e.g., for SUL) occurs less than N2+ECP symbols before the uplink signal 620, the UE 115 may not be able to multiplex the UCI 635 and the uplink signal 620. Accordingly, in some cases, the UE 115 may use priority rules and may drop one of the PUSCH (e.g., carrying the uplink signal 620) or the PUCCH (e.g., carrying the UCI 635) based on these priority rules. For example, the priorities may include PUCCH ACK / NACK, PUCCH CSI, PUSCH, where it is desired that the UE 115 drops PUSCH and transmits PUCCH (eg, PUCCH has a higher priority) and / or the UE 115 transmits PUSCH and drops PUCCH.

[0160] The decision whether to drop PUSCH or PUCCH may depend on the type of PUCCH. For example, if PUCCH contains ACK / NACK feedback, UE 115 may drop PUSCH (e.g., prioritize and transmit PUCCH and ACK / NACK feedback), while if PUCCH contains only CSI feedback, UE 115 may drop PUCCH (e.g., prioritize and transmit PUSCH). Additionally or alternatively, UE 115 may not expect to receive uplink grants (e.g., PUSCH grants) and UCI triggers (e.g., event trigger 605) that cause UCI 635 to occur between Z and Z+ECP+TA (e.g., base station 105 can ensure that this situation does not occur by scheduling event trigger 605 earlier or performing similar mitigation when base station 105 identifies that UE 115 may have to transmit in the case of ECP 615). Additionally or alternatively, UE 115 may not drop PUSCH and / or PUCCH even if the triggering event occurs less than Z' codewords ago. For example, if the UE 115 is capable of processing and preparing the uplink signal 620, the UCI 635, and / or both simultaneously, the UE 115 may not discard either message and transmit both.

[0161] In some cases, the type of LBT 610 may depend on whether the uplink signal 620 occurs within or outside the channel occupancy time (COT) acquired by the base station 105. Within the COT acquired by the base station, the UE 115 may use Category 2 (Class 2) LBT, while outside the COT acquired by the base station, the UE 115 may be required to use Category 4 (Class 4) LBT before transmission. The UE 115 may determine whether the uplink signal is within or outside the COT acquired by the base station by decoding a PDCCH containing a slot format indicator (SFI) or a COT structure indicator (COT-SI). The PDCCH containing the SFI or COT-SI may be a triggering event that enables the UE 115 to use Class 2 LBT. If the triggering event occurs at least Z' symbols before the start of the uplink signal 620, the UE 115 may use Class 2 LBT, otherwise the UE 115 may use Class 4 LBT. The value of Z′=f(Z,ECP,TA) may be the same as described above (eg, f(Z,ECP,TA)=Z+ceil(max(ECP+TA)), etc.).

[0162] Figure 7 An example of a process flow 700 for supporting an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the process flow 700 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100 and / or 200. The process flow 700 can include a base station 105-b and a UE 115-b, which can be respectively described above with reference to Figure 1 -6 describes an example of a corresponding base station 105 and a UE 115.

[0163] In the following description of process flow 700, operations between UE 115-b and base station 105-b may be performed in a different order or at different times. Certain operations may also be excluded from process flow 700, or other operations may be added to process flow 700. It will be understood that although UE 115-b and base station 105-b are shown as performing several operations of process flow 700, any wireless device may perform the operations shown.

[0164] At 705, UE 115-b may transmit an indication of UE capabilities to support ECP. In some cases, UE 115-b may transmit an indication of an amount of ECP supported by UE 115-b. For example, the amount of ECP supported may include an absolute number of time units, a number of symbols, or a combination thereof. Additionally or alternatively, the amount of extended cyclic prefix supported may be based on the SCS of the uplink channel or may be the same for any SCS of the uplink channel.

[0165] At 710, UE 115-b may determine to transmit an uplink message on resources of an uplink channel. In some cases, UE 115-b may receive an uplink grant to schedule the uplink message on resources of the uplink channel. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-b may receive a configured grant to schedule one or more uplink messages on resources of the uplink channel.

[0166] At 715, UE 115-b may perform an LBT procedure based on determining that the uplink message is to be transmitted.

[0167] At 720, UE 115-b may determine a duration of an extended cyclic prefix associated with resources of an uplink channel. In some cases, UE 115-b may receive, from a base station, a configuration of a set of offsets for transmitting the extended cyclic prefix, the set of offsets being based on an indication of UE capabilities. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-b may receive, from base station 105-b, a configuration of a set of offsets for transmitting the extended cyclic prefix, and may select an offset from a subset of the set of offsets to transmit the extended cyclic prefix, the subset of the set of offsets being based on the UE capabilities.

[0168] At 725, UE 115-b may identify uplink control information to be transmitted on an uplink channel based on the event trigger, and may multiplex the uplink control information and at least one symbol of the uplink message on the uplink channel on a timeline that includes a minimum number of symbols required between the time when the event trigger occurs and the start of the uplink channel, an extended cyclic prefix, a timing advance, or a combination thereof. In some cases, UE 115-b may determine the symbols for multiplexing the uplink control information and the uplink message on the uplink channel based on the timeline.

[0169] Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-b may determine to multiplex uplink control information and uplink messages based on a number of symbols prior to the start of an uplink channel for an event trigger to occur, the number of symbols being based on a timeline. In some cases, the timeline may be based on the duration of an extended cyclic prefix, the sum of the duration of the extended cyclic prefix and the duration of a timing advance, a minimum integer number of symbols having a duration greater than or equal to the duration of the extended cyclic prefix, a minimum integer number of symbols having a duration greater than or equal to the sum of the duration of the extended cyclic prefix and the duration of the timing advance, or a combination thereof.

[0170] In some cases, UE 115-b may receive an indication of the timeline increase caused by the extended cyclic prefix and timing advance via RRC signaling. Additionally, the minimum number of symbols required by the UE between the time when the event trigger occurs and the start time of the uplink channel may be the UE uplink control information capability. In some cases, the uplink control information may include feedback messages, channel state information, or a combination thereof.

[0171] Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-b may identify UCI to be transmitted on an uplink channel based on an event trigger and may discard the uplink message or uplink control information based on a priority of the uplink message, the uplink control information, the data to be transmitted in the uplink control information, or a combination thereof. In some cases, the event trigger may occur within a duration before the start of the uplink channel. Additionally, the duration may be based on the number of symbols supported between the event trigger and the transmission of the uplink control information, the extended cyclic prefix, and the timing advance.

[0172] At 730, UE 115-b may transmit an extended cyclic prefix on the resources of the uplink channel according to the determined duration, followed by a first symbol of one or more symbols of an uplink message, the extended cyclic prefix being based on the first symbol. In some cases, the extended cyclic prefix and the uplink message may be in the same time slot.

[0173] Figure 8 An example of a process flow 800 for supporting an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the process flow 800 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100 and / or 200. The process flow 800 can include a base station 105-c and a UE 115-c, which can be respectively as described above with reference to Figure 1-7 Examples of corresponding base stations 105 and UEs 115 are described.

[0174] In the following description of process flow 800, various operations between UE 115-c and base station 105-c may be performed in a different order or at a different time. Certain operations may also be excluded from process flow 800, or other operations may be added to process flow 800. It will be understood that although UE 115-c and base station 105-c are shown as performing several operations of process flow 800, any wireless device may perform the operations shown.

[0175] At 805, the base station 105-c may determine a duration of the extended cyclic prefix based on the symbol duration, the duration of the listen-before-talk procedure, and the gap between downlink and uplink time slots.

[0176] At 810, the UE 115-c may receive an uplink grant indicating resources for an uplink channel and an indication of an extended cyclic prefix for the uplink channel.

[0177] At 815, UE 115-c may perform LBT procedures based on receiving the uplink grant.

[0178] At 820, the UE 115-c may determine the duration of the extended cyclic prefix based on the received uplink grant. In some cases, the extended cyclic prefix may include a fractional number of symbols, an integer number of symbols, or a combination thereof.

[0179] Additionally, the UE 115-c may determine to transmit on resources of an uplink channel based on a timeline that includes a minimum number of symbols required by the UE between a received uplink grant and the start of the uplink channel, an extended cyclic prefix, a timing advance, or a combination thereof. In some cases, the UE 115-c may determine to transmit on resources of the uplink channel based on a number of symbols that the uplink grant appears before the start of the uplink channel, the number of symbols being based on the timeline. For example, the timeline may be based on the duration of the extended cyclic prefix, the sum of the duration of the extended cyclic prefix and the duration of the timing advance, a minimum integer number of symbols having a duration greater than or equal to the duration of the extended cyclic prefix, a minimum integer number of symbols having a duration greater than or equal to the sum of the duration of the extended cyclic prefix and the duration of the timing advance, or a combination thereof.

[0180] In some cases, the UE 115-c may receive an indication of the timeline increase caused by the extended cyclic prefix and timing advance via RRC signaling. Additionally, the minimum number of symbols required by the UE between a received uplink grant and the start of an uplink channel may be a UE uplink control information capability. In some cases, the UE 115-c may reduce the duration of the determined extended cyclic prefix based on when the uplink grant is received.

[0181] At 825, UE 115-c may transmit an extended cyclic prefix on the resources of the uplink channel according to the determined duration, followed by a first symbol of one or more symbols of the uplink message, the extended cyclic prefix being based on the first symbol. In some cases, the extended cyclic prefix and the uplink channel may be in the same time slot.

[0182] Fig. 9 An example of a process flow 900 for supporting an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the process flow 900 can implement aspects of the wireless communication systems 100 and / or 200. The process flow 900 can include a base station 105-d and a UE 115-d, which can be respectively described above with reference to Figure 1-8 Examples of corresponding base stations 105 and UEs 115 are described.

[0183] In the following description of process flow 900, the various operations between UE 115-d and base station 105-d may be performed in a different order or at a different time. Certain operations may also be excluded from process flow 900, or other operations may be added to process flow 900. It will be understood that although UE 115-d and base station 105-d are shown as performing several operations of process flow 900, any wireless device may perform the operations shown.

[0184] At 905, the UE 115-d may receive an uplink grant for resources of an uplink channel for an uplink message of the UE, the uplink grant indicating that an extended cyclic prefix is to be transmitted at the beginning of the resources of the uplink grant.

[0185] At 910, the UE 115-d may perform an LBT procedure based on receiving the uplink grant. In some cases, the UE 115-d may perform an LBT procedure in a window prior to transmitting the extended cyclic prefix.

[0186] At 915, UE 115-d may rate match the TB based on one or more symbols of the uplink message.

[0187] At 920, UE 115-d may transmit an extended cyclic prefix followed by a first symbol in one or more symbols of an uplink message on resources of an uplink channel based on the start of resources of an uplink grant, the extended cyclic prefix being based on the first symbol. In some cases, UE 115-d may transmit an extended cyclic prefix followed by a first symbol in one or more symbols of an uplink message based on a duration between a time when the uplink grant is received and the start of resources of the uplink grant. Additionally, the extended cyclic prefix may end at a symbol boundary of the uplink channel, and the extended cyclic prefix and the uplink channel may be in the same time slot.

[0188] Fig.10 A block diagram 1000 of a device 1005 supporting an uplink channel timeline with an extended cyclic prefix according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The device 1005 may be an example of aspects of a UE 115 as described herein. The device 1005 may include a receiver 1010, a communication manager 1015, and a transmitter 1020. The device 1005 may also include a processor. Each of these components may be in communication with each other (e.g., via one or more buses).

The receiver 1010 may utilize a single antenna or a collection of antennas.

[0190] The communication manager 1015 can transmit an indication of the UE's ability to support an extended cyclic prefix, determine that an uplink message is to be transmitted on resources of an uplink channel, perform a listen-before-talk procedure based on the determination that the uplink message is to be transmitted, determine the duration of the extended cyclic prefix associated with the resources of the uplink channel, and transmit the extended cyclic prefix on the resources of the uplink channel according to the determined duration, followed by a first codeword of one or more codewords of the uplink message, the extended cyclic prefix being based on the first codeword.

[0191] The communication manager 1015 may also receive an uplink grant indicating resources for an uplink channel and an indication of an extended cyclic prefix for the uplink channel, perform a listen-before-talk procedure based on the receipt of the uplink grant, determine a duration of the extended cyclic prefix based on the received uplink grant, and transmit the extended cyclic prefix on the resources of the uplink channel based on the determined duration, followed by a first symbol of one or more symbols of the uplink message, the extended cyclic prefix being based on the first symbol.

[0192] The communication manager 1015 may also receive an uplink grant for resources of an uplink channel for an uplink message of the UE, the uplink grant indicating that an extended cyclic prefix is to be transmitted at the beginning of the resources of the uplink grant, perform a listen-before-talk procedure based on receiving the uplink grant, and transmit the extended cyclic prefix on the resources of the uplink channel according to the beginning of the resources of the uplink grant, followed by a first symbol of one or more symbols of the uplink message, the extended cyclic prefix being based on the first symbol. The communication manager 1015 may be an example of aspects of the communication manager 1310 described herein.

[0193] The communication manager 1015 may be implemented as an integrated circuit or chipset for the device 1005, and the receiver 1010 and the transmitter 1020 may be implemented as analog components (e.g., amplifiers, filters, antennas) coupled to the device 1005 modem to implement wireless transmission and reception. The actions performed by the communication manager 1015 as described herein may be implemented to achieve one or more potential advantages. Based on implementing the determination, one or more processors of the device 1005 (e.g., processor(s) controlling or incorporated into the communication manager 1015) may promote improvements to the security of communications using the ECP, and in some examples, may promote spectral efficiency, higher data rates, and enhanced efficiency for high reliability and low latency operations, and other benefits.

In some cases, the extended cyclic prefix includes a fractional number of symbols, an integer number of symbols, or a combination thereof.

[0212] In some examples, ECP duration determining component 1225 can receive from a base station a configuration of a set of offsets for transmitting an extended cyclic prefix, the set of offsets being based on an indication of UE capabilities. In some examples, ECP duration determining component 1225 can receive from a base station a configuration of a set of offsets for transmitting an extended cyclic prefix, and can select an offset from a subset of the set of offsets to transmit the extended cyclic prefix, the subset of the set of offsets being based on UE capabilities.

[0213] The ECP transmitter 1230 may transmit an extended cyclic prefix on the resources of the uplink channel according to the determined duration, followed by a first symbol of one or more symbols of the uplink message, the extended cyclic prefix being based on the first symbol. In some examples, the ECP transmitter 1230 may transmit an extended cyclic prefix on the resources of the uplink channel according to the start of the uplink grant resources, followed by a first symbol of one or more symbols of the uplink message, the extended cyclic prefix being based on the first symbol.
