Description

Technical Field

[0001] The following relates to wireless communications, and in particular to a framework for probability shaping and channel coding of wireless signals. Background Art

[0002] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. These systems may be able to support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems (such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, advanced LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems) and fifth generation (5G) systems (which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems). These systems may use techniques such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations, each of which supports wireless communication for a communication device, which may be referred to as a user equipment (UE).

[0003] In some wireless systems, data may be modulated by a transmitting device by shaping the data into a constellation of modulation symbols for transmission to a receiving device. For example, in some cases, the distribution of modulation symbols may be shaped so that different symbols may have different probabilities of use, where such a distribution may be referred to as a non-uniform distribution of symbols. For example, the distribution of symbols may be shaped using one or more probability shaping techniques. In one example of a probabilistic shaping framework, shaping may be performed prior to channel decoding of information bits, and the shaping may be maintained after channel decoding using a system channel code. In such examples, the structure of the probabilistic shaping framework may be coupled or associated with channel decoding (e.g., to maintain shaping after decoding is performed), which may result in reduced flexibility in some decoding parameters. Summary of the invention

[0004] The described technology relates to improved methods, systems, devices and apparatuses that support probabilistic shaping and channel decoding of wireless signals. For example, the described technology provides a probabilistic shaping framework for high-order modulation, wherein shaping and channel decoding can be independent. A transmitting device (e.g., a network entity, a user equipment (UE)) can use a set of mask bits to shape a set of information bits (e.g., including data bits and parity bits). The transmitting device can encode, shape, modulate and send the information bits to a receiving device (e.g., a UE, a network entity), and the receiving device can demodulate, deshape and decode the received information bits. In addition to sending these information bits to the receiving device, the transmitting device can also send a set of shaping bits, which can indicate the set of mask bits used to shape these information bits. The receiving device can use the set of shaping bits to generate the set of mask bits, and can use the set of mask bits to deshape the received information bits. The information bits may be encoded for transmission before or after shaping, and in either case, the information bits and the set of shaped bits may be encoded using different channel coding schemes. The shaped bits and information bits may be modulated individually or jointly for transmission to a receiving device.

[0067] Some wireless communication systems may utilize high-order modulation to improve spectral efficiency of wireless transmission. In some cases, the distribution of modulation symbols may be shaped so that different symbols may have different probabilities of use, where such a distribution may be referred to as a non-uniform distribution of symbols. For example, the distribution of symbols may be shaped using one or more probability shaping techniques. Probability shaping may be a technique for improving the spectral efficiency of coded modulation, and may generate non-uniformly distributed coded modulation symbols or non-uniformly distributed constellations. In some examples, non-uniformly distributed symbols may have higher capacity than uniform symbol distribution, and may result in higher transmission capacity, higher spectral efficiency, or generally higher communication quality.

[0068] An example of a probabilistic shaping framework may be probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) (e.g., distribution matching). PAS may shape the amplitude of a constellation of modulation symbols (e.g., the amplitude may be non-uniform) while uniformly distributing the symbols of the constellation. In some examples, PAS may be performed prior to channel decoding of the information bits. In some examples, PAS may perform shaping on the information bits (e.g., shaping the bits to be distributed into a non-uniform constellation of symbols) and may utilize a systematic channel code. For example, PAS may use a systematic channel code to preserve the shaping applied to the information bits (e.g., the shaping may be preserved during channel decoding, which may occur after the shaping). In PAS, parity bits may not be shaped, but may be mapped to symbols of the constellation (e.g., the symbols may not be shaped in PAS).

[0069] Because some shaping strategies (e.g., PAS) for creating a non-uniform distribution of symbols may not shape the parity bits using the associated data bits, such strategies may reduce the shaping gain for retransmission. For example, if the initial transmission is unsuccessful, the retransmission may be based on one or more parity bits. In some examples, more parity bits can increase incremental redundancy. However, because the parity bits may not be shaped, the shaping gain of the retransmission may be reduced or lost. In addition, shaping strategies such as PAS may use a mapping different from the system bit mapping of the wireless system, which may reduce decoding performance. In addition, shaping strategies such as PAS may make it difficult to perform selective shaping on different frequency, space, or time resources (or a combination thereof) because the shaping may be related to channel decoding.

[0070] The present disclosure provides techniques for a probabilistic shaping framework for high-order modulation, in which shaping and channel decoding can be independent. A transmitting device (e.g., a network entity, a user equipment (UE)) can use a set of mask bits (e.g., bits or parameters for shaping or masking a set of information bits when combined with a set of information bits) to shape the set of information bits (e.g., including data bits and parity bits). The transmitting device can encode, shape, modulate and send the information bits to a receiving device (e.g., a UE, a network entity), and the receiving device can demodulate, deshape and decode the received information bits. Shaping for parity bits can therefore be provided, mapping can be aligned with a decoding system, and selective shaping for different resource sets can be supported.

[0071] In addition to sending the information bits to the receiving device, the transmitting device may also send a set of shaping bits, which may indicate the set of mask bits used to shape the information bits (e.g., the set of shaping bits may indicate or otherwise represent one or more shaping parameters used to shape the set of information bits). The receiving device may use the set of shaping bits to generate the set of mask bits, and may use the set of mask bits to deshape the received information bits. Such shaping techniques may support joint shaping of data bits and parity bits (e.g., in information bits) by performing shaping after generating parity bits (e.g., after channel decoding). Because the parity bits are shaped, the systematic bit mapping may be aligned with the wireless system decoding system by supporting mapping of parity bits to the amplitude (e.g., the least significant bit (LSB)) of the shaped constellation and mapping of data bits (e.g., other information bits) to the symbol (e.g., the most significant bit (MSB)) of the shaped constellation. Additionally or alternatively, because shaping is decoupled from channel coding, such shaping techniques may support selective shaping for different resource sets (eg, which may be associated with different corresponding channel codings).

[0072] The information bits may be encoded for transmission before or after shaping, and in either case, the information bits and the group of shaped bits may be encoded using different channel decoding schemes. The shaped bits and the information bits may be modulated individually or jointly for transmission to a receiving device. In some examples, the transmitting device may perform modulation of the encoded information bits and the encoded shaped bits individually or jointly. In some examples, the receiving device may send feedback for the shaped bits and the information bits separately. In some other examples, the shaping of the information bits may be selective shaping (e.g., different for different frequency, space, or time resources). In some cases, the shaped bits may be connected to (e.g., included in) subsequent transmissions (e.g., of the information bits).

Various aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated and described by and with reference to receiving schemes and transmitting schemes related to probability shaping and channel decoding for wireless signals. Various aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described by and with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow charts related to probability shaping and channel decoding for wireless signals.

[0077] As described herein, a node of the wireless communication system 100 (which may be referred to as a network node or a wireless node) may be a network entity 105 (e.g., any network entity described herein), a UE 115 (e.g., any UE described herein), a network controller, an apparatus, a device, a computing system, one or more components, or another suitable processing entity configured to perform any of the techniques described herein. For example, the node may be a UE 115. As another example, the node may be a network entity 105. As another example, a first node may be configured to communicate with a second node or a third node. In one aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a UE 115. In another aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a network entity 105. In other aspects of this example, the first node, the second node, and the third node may be different relative to these examples. Similarly, references to UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, etc. may include disclosure of UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, etc. as nodes. For example, a disclosure that UE 115 is configured to receive information from network entity 105 also discloses that the first node is configured to receive information from a second node.

[0078] In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130, or with each other, or both. For example, the network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul links 120 (e.g., according to S1, N2, N3, or other interface protocols). In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., directly between the network entities 105) or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130) via the backhaul communication links 120 (e.g., according to X2, Xn, or other interface protocols). In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with each other via midhaul communication links 162 (e.g., according to a midhaul interface protocol) or fronthaul communication links 168 (e.g., according to a fronthaul interface protocol) or any combination thereof. The backhaul communication links 120, midhaul communication links 162, or fronthaul communication links 168 may be or include one or more wired links (e.g., electrical links, optical fiber links), one or more wireless links (e.g., radio links, wireless optical links), etc. or various combinations thereof. UE 115 may communicate with core network 130 via communication link 155 .

[0079] One or more of the network entities 105 described herein may include or may be referred to as a base station 140 (e.g., a transceiver base station, a radio base station, an NR base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a Node B, an evolved Node B (eNB), a next generation Node B, or a Gigabit Node B (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a 5G NB, a next generation eNB (ng-eNB), a Home Node B, a Home Evolved Node B, or other suitable terms). In some examples, the network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may be implemented in an aggregated (e.g., monolithic, standalone) base station architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single network entity 105 (e.g., a single RAN node, such as a base station 140).

[0080] In some examples, the network entity 105 may be implemented in a disaggregated architecture (e.g., a disaggregated base station architecture, a disaggregated RAN architecture) that may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed between two or more network entities 105, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance), or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN)). For example, the network entity 105 may include one or more of the following: a central unit (CU) 160, a distributed unit (DU) 165, a radio unit (RU) 170, a RAN intelligent controller (RIC) 175 (e.g., a near real-time RIC (near RT RIC), a non-real-time RIC (non-RT RIC)), a service management and orchestration (SMO) 180 system, or any combination thereof. The RU 170 may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH), a remote radio unit (RRU), or a transmit receive point (TRP). One or more components of the network entity 105 in the decomposed RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entity 105 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations). In some examples, one or more network entities 105 of the decomposed RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., virtual CU (VCU), virtual DU (VDU), virtual RU (VRU)).

[0081] The functional split between CU 160, DU 165, and RU 170 is flexible and may support different functionalities depending on which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, RF functions, and any combination thereof) are performed at CU 160, DU 165, and RU 170. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between CU 160 and DU 165 such that CU 160 may support one or more layers of a protocol stack and DU 165 may support one or more different layers of a protocol stack. In some examples, CU 160 may host higher protocol layer (e.g., layer 3 (L3), layer 2 (L2)) functionality and signaling (e.g., radio resource control (RRC), service data adaptation protocol (SDAP), packet data convergence protocol (PDCP)). The CU 160 may be connected to one or more DUs 165 or RUs 170, and the one or more DUs 165 or RUs 170 may host lower protocol layers, such as layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160. Additionally or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between the DU 165 and the RU 170, such that the DU 165 may support one or more layers of the protocol stack, and the RU 170 may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU 165 may support one or more different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs 170). In some cases, the functional split between CU 160 and DU 165 or between DU 165 and RU 170 may be within the protocol layer (e.g., some functions of the protocol layer may be performed by one of CU 160, DU 165, or RU 170, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by the other of CU 160, DU 165, or RU 170). CU 160 may be further functionally split into CU control plane (CU-CP) functions and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. CU 160 may be connected to one or more DUs 165 via midhaul communication links 162 (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u), and DU 165 may be connected to one or more RUs 170 via fronthaul communication links 168 (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface). In some examples, midhaul communication link 162 or fronthaul communication link 168 may be implemented based on interfaces (eg, channels) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 105 that communicate via those communication links.

[0082] In some wireless communication systems (e.g., wireless communication system 100), infrastructure and spectrum resources for radio access may support wireless backhaul link capabilities to supplement wired backhaul connections, thereby providing an IAB network architecture (e.g., to the core network 130). In some cases, in an IAB network, one or more network entities 105 (e.g., IAB nodes 104) may be partially controlled by each other. One or more IAB nodes 104 may be referred to as host entities or IAB hosts. One or more DUs 165 or one or more RUs 170 may be partially controlled by one or more CUs 160 associated with a host network entity 105 (e.g., a host base station 140). One or more host network entities 105 (e.g., IAB hosts) may communicate with one or more additional network entities 105 (e.g., IAB nodes 104) via supported access and backhaul links (e.g., backhaul communication links 120). The IAB node 104 may include an IAB mobile terminal (IAB-MT) controlled (e.g., scheduled) by a DU 165 of a coupled IAB host. The IAB-MT may include an independent set of antennas for relaying communications with the UE 115, or may share the same antennas of the IAB node 104 (e.g., of the RU 170) for access via the DU 165 of the IAB node 104 (e.g., referred to as a virtual IAB-MT (vIAB-MT)). In some examples, the IAB node 104 may include a DU 165 that supports communication links with additional entities (e.g., IAB node 104, UE 115) within a relay chain or configuration (e.g., downstream) of the access network. In such cases, one or more components of the decomposed RAN architecture (e.g., one or more IAB nodes 104 or components of the IAB node 104) may be configured to operate according to the techniques described herein.

[0083] Where the techniques described herein are applied to the context of a decomposed RAN architecture, one or more components of the decomposed RAN architecture may be configured to support probability shaping and channel coding of wireless signals as described herein. For example, some operations described as being performed by a UE 115 or a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may additionally or alternatively be performed by one or more components of the decomposed RAN architecture (e.g., an IAB node 104, a DU 165, a CU 160, a RU 170, a RIC 175, a SMO 180).

[0084] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology, where a "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, etc. UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as appliances or vehicles, meters, etc.

[0085] The UE 115 described herein may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, which may sometimes act as relays, as well as network entities 105 and network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, or relay base stations, etc. Figure 1 shown.

[0086] The UE 115 and the network entity 105 may wirelessly communicate with each other via one or more communication links 125 (e.g., access links) using resources associated with one or more carriers. The term "carrier" may refer to a collection of RF spectrum resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting the communication link 125. For example, a carrier for the communication link 125 may include a portion of an RF spectrum band (e.g., a bandwidth portion (BWP)) that operates according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating carrier operations, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 may support communications with the UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. Depending on the carrier aggregation configuration, the UE 115 may be configured to have multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers. Carrier aggregation may be used for both frequency division duplex (FDD) component carriers and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers. Communication between the network entity 105 and other devices may refer to communication between a device and any portion (e.g., entity, sub-entity) of the network entity 105. For example, the terms "send," "receive," or "communicate" when referring to the network entity 105 may refer to any portion of the network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, CU 160, DU 165, RU 170) of the RAN communicating with another device (e.g., directly or via one or more other network entities 105).

[0087] The signal waveform transmitted via the carrier may be composed of multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system using MCM technology, a resource element may refer to a symbol period (e.g., the duration of a modulation symbol) and a resource of a subcarrier, where the symbol period and the subcarrier spacing may be inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both), so that a relatively high number of resource elements (e.g., in the transmission duration) and a relatively high order modulation scheme may correspond to a relatively high communication rate. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of RF spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers, beams), and the use of multiple spatial resources may increase the data rate or data integrity of the communication with the UE 115.

[0088] The time interval for the network entity 105 or the UE 115 may be expressed in multiples of a basic time unit, which may be, for example, a sampling period T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds, where Δf max It can represent the supported subcarrier spacing, and N f The supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size may be indicated. The time intervals of the communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each radio frame having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).

[0089] Each frame may include multiple consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, the frame may be divided into subframes (e.g., in the time domain), and each subframe may be further divided into a certain number of time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include multiple symbol periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix added before each symbol period). In some wireless communication systems 100, the time slot may also be divided into multiple mini-time slots associated with one or more symbols. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each symbol period may be associated with one or more (e.g., N f ) sampling period. The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating frequency band.

[0090] A subframe, a time slot, a mini-time slot, or a symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in bursts of shortened TTIs (sTTIs)).

[0091] Physical channels may be multiplexed using carriers for communication according to various techniques. For example, physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed via downlink carriers for signaling using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) for a physical control channel may be defined by a set of symbol periods and may extend across a system bandwidth or a subset of a system bandwidth of a carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of UEs 115. For example, one or more UEs in UE 115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. The aggregation level of a control channel candidate may refer to the amount of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information for a control information format having a given payload size. The search space sets may include a common search space set configured for transmitting control information to a plurality of UEs 115 , and a UE-specific search space set for transmitting control information to a specific UE 115 .

[0092] In some examples, the network entities 105 (e.g., base stations 140, RUs 170) may be mobile and thus provide communication coverage for mobile coverage areas 110. In some examples, different coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same network entity 105. In some other examples, overlapping coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different network entities 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of network entities 105 provide coverage for various coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.

[0093] The wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low-latency communication or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC). The UE 115 may be designed to support ultra-reliable or low-latency or critical functions. Ultra-reliable communication may include private communication or group communication, and may be supported by one or more services (such as push-to-talk, video, or data). Support for ultra-reliable, low-latency functions may include prioritization of services, and such services may be used for public safety applications or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low-latency, and ultra-reliable low-latency are used interchangeably herein.

[0094] In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured to support communication directly with other UEs 115 via a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., according to a peer-to-peer (P2P), D2D, or sidelink protocol). In some examples, one or more UEs 115 in a group that are performing D2D communication may be within a coverage area 110 of a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, a RU 170), which may support various aspects of such D2D communication configured (e.g., scheduled) by the network entity 105. In some examples, one or more UEs 115 of such a group may be outside of the coverage area 110 of the network entity 105, or may otherwise be unable or not configured to receive transmissions from the network entity 105. In some examples, a group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may support a one-to-many (1:M) system, in which each UE 115 transmits to each of the other UEs 115 in the group. In some examples, network entity 105 may facilitate scheduling of resources for D2D communications. In some other examples, D2D communications may be conducted between UEs 115 without involving network entity 105.

[0095] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), which may include at least one control plane entity for managing access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) and at least one user plane entity for routing packets or interconnecting to an external network (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW)), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)). The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management for UE 115 served by a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be delivered via the user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to an IP service 150 for one or more network operators. IP services 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), or packet-switched streaming services.

[0096] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands that may be in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). Typically, the region from 300 MHz to 3 GHz is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelength range is approximately one decimeter to one meter. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features (which may be referred to as clusters), but these waves may be sufficient to penetrate structures so that macro cells provide services to UEs 115 located indoors. Communications using UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than communications using lower frequencies and longer waves in the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.

[0097] The wireless communication system 100 may utilize both licensed RF spectrum bands and unlicensed RF spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may employ licensed assisted access (LAA), LTE unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology using unlicensed bands such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. When operating using unlicensed RF spectrum bands, devices such as network entity 105 and UE 115 may employ carrier sensing for conflict detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations using unlicensed bands may be based on a carrier aggregation configuration combined with component carriers operating using licensed bands (e.g., LAA). Operations using unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, and the like.

[0098] The network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, RU 170) or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas that can be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the network entity 105 or UE 115 may be located in one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels that can support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly, such as an antenna tower. In some examples, antennas or antenna arrays associated with the network entity 105 may be located at different geographical locations. The network entity 105 may include an antenna array having a set of rows and columns of antenna ports that the network entity 105 can use to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may include one or more antenna arrays that can support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support RF beamforming for signals sent via the antenna ports.

[0099] The network entity 105 or UE 115 may use MIMO communication to utilize multipath signal propagation and improve spectral efficiency by sending or receiving multiple signals via different spatial layers. Such technology may be referred to as spatial multiplexing. Multiple signals may be, for example, sent by a transmitting device via different antennas or different combinations of antennas. Similarly, multiple signals may be received by a receiving device via different antennas or different combinations of antennas. Each of the multiple signals may be referred to as a separate spatial stream and may carry information associated with the same data stream (e.g., the same codeword) or different data streams (e.g., different codewords). Different spatial layers may be associated with different antenna ports for channel measurement and reporting. MIMO technologies include single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are sent to the same receiving device; and multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are sent to multiple devices.

[0100] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a network entity 105, a UE 115) to shape or steer an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals conveyed via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating along a particular orientation relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals conveyed via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each of the antenna elements may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular orientation (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device or relative to some other orientation).

[0101] The network entity 105 or UE 115 may use beam scanning techniques as part of a beamforming operation. For example, the network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, RU 170) may use multiple antennas or antenna arrays (e.g., antenna panels) to perform beamforming operations for directional communication with UE 115. Some signals (e.g., synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) may be sent multiple times by the network entity 105 along different directions. For example, the network entity 105 may send signals according to different sets of beamforming weights associated with different transmission directions. Transmissions along different beam directions may be used to identify (e.g., by a transmitting device (such as network entity 105), or by a receiving device (such as UE 115)) beam directions for later transmission or reception by the network entity 105.

[0102] Some signals, such as data signals associated with a particular receiving device, may be sent by a transmitting device (e.g., transmitting network entity 105, transmitting UE 115) along a single beam direction (e.g., a direction associated with a receiving device (such as receiving network entity 105 or receiving UE 115)). In some examples, a beam direction associated with transmission along a single beam direction may be determined based on signals sent along one or more beam directions. For example, UE 115 may receive one or more of the signals sent by network entity 105 along different directions, and may report to network entity 105 an indication of the signal received by UE 115 with the highest signal quality or other acceptable signal quality.

[0103] In some examples, transmission by a device (e.g., by network entity 105 or UE 115) may be performed using multiple beam directions, and the device may use a combination of digital precoding or beamforming to generate a combined beam for transmission (e.g., from network entity 105 to UE 115). UE 115 may report feedback indicating precoding weights for one or more beam directions, and the feedback may correspond to a configured set of beams across a system bandwidth or one or more subbands. Network entity 105 may send a reference signal (e.g., a cell-specific reference signal (CRS), a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS)), which may be precoded or non-precoded. UE 115 may provide feedback for beam selection, which may be a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) or codebook-based feedback (e.g., a multi-panel codebook, a linear combination codebook, a port selection codebook). Although these techniques are described with reference to signals sent along one or more directions by a network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, RU 170), UE 115 may use similar techniques to send signals multiple times along different directions (e.g., to identify a beam direction for subsequent transmission or reception by UE 115), or to send signals along a single direction (e.g., to send data to a receiving device).

[0104] A receiving device (e.g., UE 115) may perform receiving operations according to multiple receiving configurations (e.g., directional listening) when receiving various signals (such as synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) from a receiving device (e.g., network entity 105). For example, the receiving device may perform reception according to multiple receiving directions by: receiving via different antenna subarrays, processing the received signals according to different antenna subarrays, receiving according to different receiving beamforming weight sets (e.g., different directional listening weight sets) applied to signals received at multiple antenna elements of an antenna array, or processing the received signals according to different receiving beamforming weight sets applied to signals received at multiple antenna elements of an antenna array, any of which may be referred to as "listening" according to different receiving configurations or receiving directions. In some examples, the receiving device may use a single receiving configuration to receive along a single beam direction (e.g., when receiving a data signal). A single receive configuration may be aligned along a beam direction determined based on listening according to different receive configuration directions (e.g., a beam direction determined to have the highest signal strength, highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), or other acceptable signal quality based on listening according to multiple beam directions).

[0105] UE 115 and network entity 105 may support retransmission of data to increase the likelihood that the data is successfully received. Hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback is a technique for increasing the likelihood of correctly receiving data via a communication link (e.g., communication link 125, D2D communication link 135). HARQ may include a combination of error detection (e.g., using a cyclic redundancy check (CRC)), forward error correction (FEC), and retransmission (e.g., automatic repeat request (ARQ)). HARQ may improve throughput at the MAC layer under poor radio conditions (e.g., low signal-to-noise ratio conditions). In some examples, a device may support same-slot HARQ feedback, in which case the device may provide HARQ feedback in a specific time slot for data received in a previous symbol in the time slot. In some other examples, the device may provide HARQ feedback in a subsequent time slot or according to some other time interval.

[0106] A transmitting device (e.g., network entity 105, UE 115) may use a set of mask bits to shape a set of information bits (e.g., including data bits and parity bits). The transmitting device may encode, shape, modulate and send the information bits to a receiving device (e.g., UE 115, network entity 105), and the receiving device may demodulate, deshape and decode the received information bits. In addition to sending these information bits to the receiving device, the transmitting device may also send a set of shaping bits, which may indicate the set of mask bits used to shape these information bits. The receiving device may use the set of shaping bits to generate the set of mask bits, and may use the set of mask bits to deshape the received information bits. These information bits may be encoded for transmission before or after shaping, and in either case, these information bits and the set of shaping bits may be encoded using different channel decoding schemes. The shaping bits and information bits may be modulated individually or jointly to be sent to a receiving device.

[0107] Figure 2 An example of a wireless communication system 200 that supports probability shaping and channel decoding of wireless signals according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 200 may include a network entity 105-a and a UE 115-a, which may be a wireless communication system 200 of the present disclosure. Figure 1Examples of corresponding devices described. The network entity 105-a and the UE 115-a can communicate with each other in an uplink or a downlink, wherein the UE 115-a can transmit in the uplink and the network entity 105-a can transmit in the downlink. In some cases, the UE 115-a can additionally or alternatively communicate with another UE 115 in a sidelink. A device that transmits a signal (e.g., in an uplink, a downlink, or a sidelink) can be referred to as a transmitting device, and a device that receives a transmitted signal (e.g., in an uplink, a downlink, or a sidelink) can be referred to as a receiving device.

[0108] In general, the wireless communication system 200 illustrates an example in which a network entity 105-a and a UE 115-a communicate via an uplink channel 205 or a downlink channel 210 (e.g., while the UE 115-a may additionally or alternatively communicate with another UE 115 via a sidelink channel). For example, the network entity 105-a, the UE 115-a, or both may transmit a signal modulated to represent a set of bits 215. Thus, the bits 215 (e.g., a modulated signal representing the bits 215) may be transmitted between the network entity 105-a and the UE 115-a via the uplink channel 205 or the downlink channel 210. For example, the bits 215 may be transmitted via a distribution of modulation symbols, where each symbol in the distribution may represent one or more bits.

[0109] Some wireless communication systems (e.g., cellular, Wi-Fi) may utilize higher order modulation (e.g., 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), 64QAM, 256QAM) to improve spectral efficiency of wireless transmissions at higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values. In such systems, the constellation of modulation symbols may be fixed (e.g., may be a square constellation), where each constellation point (e.g., value, symbol) may have the same probability of use as another constellation point (e.g., each constellation point may be used with equal probability).

[0110] In some cases, the distribution of symbols may be shaped so that different symbols may have different probabilities of use, where such a distribution may be referred to as a non-uniform distribution of symbols. For example, a non-uniform distribution of symbols may include a first group of symbols having corresponding probabilities of use below a first probability level and a second group of symbols having corresponding probabilities of use above or equal to the first probability level. In such cases, the first group of symbols may include one or more probabilities below the first probability level (e.g., different probabilities below the first probability level), and the second group of symbols may include one or more probabilities above or equal to the first probability level (e.g., different probabilities above or equal to the first probability level).

[0111] One or more probability shaping techniques may be used to shape the non-uniform distribution of symbols. Probabilistic shaping may be a technique for improving the spectral efficiency of coded modulation, and may generate non-uniformly distributed coded modulation symbols or non-uniformly distributed constellations. In some examples, non-uniformly distributed QAM may have a higher capacity than uniformly distributed QAM. Such non-uniform distribution may result in higher transmission capacity, higher spectral efficiency, or generally higher communication quality than uniform symbol distribution. For example, at the same SNR, a non-uniformly distributed constellation may be associated with greater mutual information (e.g., information I, defined by parameters X and Y) than a uniformly distributed constellation.

[0112] An example of a probabilistic shaping framework may be PAS (e.g., distribution matching). PAS may shape the amplitude of a constellation of modulation symbols (e.g., the amplitude may be non-uniform) while uniformly distributing the symbols of the constellation. In some examples, PAS may be performed prior to channel decoding of the information bits. In some examples, PAS may perform shaping on the information bits (e.g., shaping the bits to be distributed into a non-uniform constellation of symbols) and may utilize a system channel code. For example, PAS may use a system channel code to preserve the shaping applied to the information bits (e.g., the shaping may be preserved during channel decoding, which may occur after the shaping). In PAS, parity bits may not be shaped, but may be mapped to symbols of the constellation (e.g., the symbols may not be shaped in PAS).

[0113] In some examples, the structure of the PAS can be coupled or related to channel decoding (e.g., to maintain shaping after decoding is performed), which may result in reduced flexibility of some decoding parameters. For example, in some cases, channel conditions may change with time or frequency (e.g., among other parameters), and if the channel decoding does not change with one or more of these parameters (e.g., because the channel decoding is based on or related to the PAS), then the communication quality of the associated signaling may be reduced. In addition, if shaping is performed before channel decoding, the number of uncoded bits used by the channel decoding scheme (e.g., encoder) may be greater than the payload size of the associated information bits (e.g., the number of information bits).

[0114] Because some shaping strategies (e.g., PAS) for creating a non-uniform distribution of symbols may not shape the parity bits with the associated data bits, such strategies may reduce the shaping gain for retransmissions. For example, in a HARQ transmission, if the initial transmission is unsuccessful, the retransmission may be based on one or more parity bits. In some examples, more parity bits may increase incremental redundancy. However, because the parity bits may not be shaped, the shaping gain of the retransmission may be reduced or lost. For example, because the HARQ process uses a circular buffer, a reduced subset of the shaped bits may be retransmitted (e.g., and another subset of the shaped bits may not be retransmitted), and any parity bits that are retransmitted may not be shaped.

[0115] Because only some of the shaped bits may be retransmitted, shaping gain may be lost because the bits may be shaped to be sent together but may not be sent together. In addition, because a reduced subset of the shaped bits may be retransmitted, a receiving device may have difficulty determining a distribution associated with (e.g., over) the shaped symbols. In some cases, because the number of uncoded bits received by the encoder may be greater than the actual payload (e.g., the number of information bits), retransmission may also use more resources for encoding to support decoding of the shaped bits at the receiving device.

[0116] In addition, a shaping strategy such as PAS may map a systematic bit (e.g., a data bit) to the LSB of a modulation constellation, and may map a parity bit to the MSB or symbol of a modulation constellation. Such a design may be different from a systematic bit priority mapping (SBPM) used by a wireless communication system (e.g., an NR system), where the wireless communication system may use SBPM to improve the performance of a low-density parity check (LDPC) code. For example, in the SBPM of a wireless communication system, a systematic bit may be mapped to the MSB, and a parity bit may be mapped to the LSB. Because SBPM may use a different mapping than PAS mapping, a transmission using PAS mapping may experience a reduction in decoding gain (e.g., may lose decoding gain), which may reduce decoding performance.

[0117] In addition, shaping strategies such as PAS may make it difficult to perform selective shaping on different frequency, space, or time resources (or a combination thereof). For example, in some cases, the shaping rate may be selected to adapt to the channel SNR. In the example of MIMO or fading channels (e.g., or both), the SNR may be different for different subbands, layers, or both. Such differences in SNR may increase the difficulty of PAS techniques to perform selective shaping on frequency, space, and / or time resources.

[0118] The present disclosure provides a technique for a probability shaping framework for high-order modulation, in which shaping and channel decoding can be decoupled. A transmitting device (e.g., a network entity 105-a, a UE 115-a) can use a set of mask bits to shape a set of information bits (e.g., including data bits and parity bits). As described herein, the set of information bits may include data bits representing data for transmission to a receiving device (e.g., a UE 115-a, a network entity 105-a, another UE 115). For example, a data bit or data associated therewith may be generated by a processor of a transmitting device in association with the execution of one or more functions of the transmitting device (e.g., may be generated by one or more layers of a protocol stack of the transmitting device). In some cases, the data or data bits may be associated with one or more functions of a transmitting device, or may be associated with wireless communication between a transmitting device and a receiving device (e.g., a technology or method for wireless communication). The set of information bits may also include parity bits associated with the data bits (e.g., generated at least in part from the data bits).

[0119] Information bits, data bits, parity bits, mask bits, and other bits may be examples of bits 215 that may be sent between a network entity 105-a and a UE 115-a (e.g., or between a UE 115-a and another UE 115). A transmitting device (e.g., network entity 105-a, UE 115-a) may encode, shape, modulate, and send the information bits to a receiving device (e.g., UE 115-a, network entity 105-a), and the receiving device may demodulate, deshape, and decode the received information bits. Thus, shaping for parity bits may be provided, mapping may be aligned with a coding system (e.g., an NR coding system), and selective shaping for different resource sets may be supported.

[0120] In addition to sending these information bits to the receiving device, the transmitting device may also send a set of shaping bits, which may indicate the set of mask bits used to shape these information bits. The receiving device may use the set of shaping bits to generate the set of mask bits, and may use the set of mask bits to deshape the received information bits. Sending the set of shaping bits to the receiving device may, for example, support the decoupling of the shaping of the channel decoding scheme and the information bits based on providing information related to the shaping of the information bits to the receiving device. Such shaping techniques may support the joint shaping of data bits and parity bits (e.g., in the information bits) by performing shaping after generating the parity bits (e.g., after channel decoding). Because the parity bits are shaped, the systematic bit mapping can be aligned with the coding system of the RAT (e.g., the NR coding system) by supporting the mapping of the parity bits to the magnitude (e.g., the least significant bit (LSB)) of the shaped constellation and the mapping of the data bits (e.g., other information bits) to the symbol (e.g., the most significant bit (MSB)) of the shaped constellation. Additionally or alternatively, because the shaping is decoupled from the channel coding, such shaping techniques can support selective shaping for different resource sets (e.g., which can be associated with different corresponding channel codings). These information bits can be encoded for transmission before or after shaping, and in either case, these information bits and the set of shaped bits can be encoded using different channel coding schemes. The shaped bits and the information bits can be modulated separately or jointly for transmission to a receiving device.

[0121] For example, a transmitting device may encode bits for transmission, shape the encoded bits, modulate the shaped bits, and transmit the modulated bits to a receiving device. A network entity 105-a or a UE 115-a may be an example of a transmitting device. The transmitting device may shape bits for transmission, for example, by generating mask bits and shaping the information bits by combining information bits and mask bits. The transmitting device may compress the mask bits into a set of shaped bits for transmission to a receiving device. The shaped bits may also be decoded to generate the encoded shaped bits. The information bits may be encoded separately from the shaped bits, and both the encoded shaped bits and the encoded information bits may be further modulated into one or more constellations (e.g., jointly or separately modulated). A transmitting device (e.g., network entity 105-a, UE 115-a) may send information bits (e.g., bits 215) and a shaped constellation of shaped bits to a receiving device (e.g., UE 115-a, network entity 105-a), such as via a downlink channel 210, an uplink channel 205, or a sidelink channel.

[0122] The receiving device may receive, demodulate, deshape, and decode the shaped constellation received from the transmitting device. The receiving device may first demodulate and decode the shaped bits from the received signaling, and use the shaped bits to generate the mask bits. The receiving device may demodulate the shaped information bits, and may use the mask bits to deshape or demask the information bits. The receiving device (e.g., UE 115-a, network entity 105-a) may decode the information bits from the deshaped information bits, for example, using a channel code (e.g., where the channel code may protect the information payload).

[0123] In some examples, the transmitting device may perform modulation of the encoded information bits and the encoded shaping bits, either individually or jointly. For example, as described herein, a corresponding modulation scheme or demodulation scheme may represent a modulation scheme (e.g., or demodulation scheme) or both configured for the transmitting device or determined by the transmitting device using one or more techniques or methods associated with the wireless communication system 200. For example, the modulation scheme (e.g., or demodulation scheme) may be configured by the network device 105 for the UE 115 (e.g., via signaling, as indicated by one or more parameters), determined by the network device 105 for use by the network device 105, determined by the UE 115 for use by the UE 115 or by another UE 115, or jointly configured and / or determined by the UE 115 and the network device 105 (e.g., via signaling, as indicated by one or more parameters). The modulation scheme (e.g., or demodulation scheme) may be based on one or more channel qualities of an uplink, sidelink, or downlink channel for communication between the transmitting device and the receiving device, such as based on one or more measurements performed by the transmitting device, the receiving device, or both. In some cases, different techniques, methods, or parameters may be configured for determining or configuring a corresponding modulation scheme (e.g., or a demodulation scheme) for the information bits (e.g., demodulating the information bits) and a corresponding modulation scheme for the set of shaped bits (e.g., demodulating the set of shaped bits).

[0124] In some examples, the receiving device may send feedback for the shaping bits and the information bits separately. In some other examples, the shaping of the information bits may be selective shaping (e.g., different for different frequency, space, or time resources). In some cases, the shaping bits may be connected to (e.g., included in) a subsequent transmission (e.g., of the information bits).

[0125] As described herein, a corresponding channel coding scheme (e.g., channel coding) or channel decoding scheme may represent a channel coding scheme (e.g., or channel decoding scheme) configured for a transmitting device or determined by a transmitting device using one or more techniques or methods associated with the wireless communication system 200, or both. For example, a channel coding scheme (e.g., or channel decoding scheme) may be configured by the network device 105 for the UE 115 (e.g., via signaling, as indicated by one or more parameters), determined by the network device 105 for use by the network device 105, determined by the UE 115 for use by the UE 115 or by another UE 115, or jointly configured and / or determined by the UE 115 and the network device 105 (e.g., via signaling, as indicated by one or more parameters). The channel coding scheme (e.g., or channel decoding scheme) may be based on one or more channel qualities of an uplink, sidelink, or downlink channel used for communication between the transmitting device and the receiving device, such as based on one or more channel quality measurements performed by the transmitting device, the receiving device, or both. In some cases, different techniques, methods, or parameters may be configured for determining or configuring a corresponding channel coding scheme (e.g., or channel decoding scheme) for encoding (e.g., decoding) information bits and a corresponding channel decoding scheme for encoding (e.g., decoding) the set of shaped bits.

[0126] Figure 3 An example of a transmission scheme 300 supporting probability shaping and channel coding of wireless signals according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. Figure 3 may be an example of one or more features of a framework for probability shaping of high order modulation. The framework may include reference Figure 2 One or more of the characteristics described. For example, Figure 3 1 and 2. The method for processing information bits 305 (eg, u) to decode, shape, and modulate the information bits 305 (eg, data and associated parity bits) for transmission (eg, using a reference signal). Figure 2 One or more shaping techniques described herein).

[0127] For example, a transmitting device (e.g., UE 115, network entity 105) may directly encode information bits 305 using channel decoding 310-a (e.g., a channel decoding scheme). After performing channel decoding, information bits 305 may be referred to as encoded information bits 315 (e.g., x). At 320, the transmitting device may generate a set of mask bits 325 using the encoded information bits 315. The set of mask bits 325 may have the same number of bits (e.g., n bits) as the encoded information bits 315. The mask bits may be used to reshape the encoded information bits 315 by applying a mask or scrambling to the encoded information bits 315. The set of mask bits 325 can be a bit sequence (e.g., v bits) that can depend on the encoded information bits 315 (e.g., x) such that a combination (e.g., via a bitwise XOR operation) of the set of mask bits 325 and the encoded information bits 315 (e.g., x+v, where + represents a bitwise XOR operation) may not be uniformly distributed (e.g., a shaped distribution may be achieved).

[0128] For example, after modulation, the combination of the set of mask bits 325 and the encoded information bits 315 (e.g., x+v) may produce a desired distribution of modulation symbols (e.g., a non-uniform distribution). In some examples, mask bit generation may be applied to parity bits associated with data carried by the encoded information bits 315. For example, the encoded information bits 315 may include parity bits associated with the data included in the encoded information bits 315.

[0129] In some examples, information about the set of mask bits 325 may not be available to a receiving device (e.g., UE 115, network entity 105). Therefore, information associated with the set of mask bits 325 may be generated and sent to a receiver to deshape (e.g., demask or descramble) the received information bits. For example, the transmitting device may use the set of mask bits 325 to generate a set of shaping bits 335, which may be used to generate a mask (e.g., v, the set of mask bits 325) for masking the encoded information bits 315. In some cases, the transmitting device may use the set of shaping bits 335 to generate the set of mask bits 325. The set of shaping bits 335 may represent a second bit sequence (e.g., s), which may have a smaller length than v, but may be used to generate v (e.g., the set of mask bits 325). For example, the shaping bits 335 may be generated by compressing the set of mask bits 325 so that the mask bits 325 may be equal to the shaping bits 335 multiplied by a generator matrix (e.g., G). In some examples, the mask bits 325 may be generated (e.g., regenerated by a receiving device, generated by a transmitting device) from the shaping bits 335 using a generator matrix (e.g., G) via a linear block code (e.g., Golay code, polar code, LDPC code, convolutional code, Turbo code, Reed Muller code). For example, a linear block code may be applied to the shaping bits 335 by multiplying the shaping bits 335 by a generator matrix (e.g., the generator matrix may be associated with or configured for the application of the linear block code).

[0130] At 330, the transmitting device may mask or shape the encoded information bits 315 by combining (e.g., adding, performing a bitwise XOR operation) the encoded information bits 315 with the set of mask bits 325. As described herein, the combination of the mask bits 325 and the encoded information bits 315 may produce a desired symbol distribution (e.g., a non-uniform distribution of symbols) after modulation. At 345, the shaped encoded information bits 315 may be modulated by the transmitting device (e.g., for transmission to a receiving device), which may generate one or more shaped constellations 350 of modulation symbols.

[0131] The shaped bits 335 may be channel decoded again using a channel decoding 310-b (e.g., a channel decoding scheme), which may generate coded shaped bits 345. Channel decoding 310-b may represent a different or separate channel decoding than channel decoding 310-a, such that the set of shaped bits 335 may be encoded separately from the information bits 305. Thus, the coded information bits 315 and the coded shaped bits 340 may use different coding rates, different modulation orders, different numbers of spatial layers, etc. At 345, the coded shaped bits 340 may be modulated by a transmitting device (e.g., for transmission to a receiving device). As described with reference to Figure 5 and Figure 6As further described, the encoded shaping bits 340 and the encoded information bits 315 may be modulated jointly or separately.

[0132] Figure 4 An example of a transmission scheme 400 supporting probability shaping and channel decoding of wireless signals according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The transmission scheme 400 can be used by a receiving device (e.g., UE 115, network entity 105) that can receive and demodulate signaling 405. For example, the receiving device can receive a shaped constellation of modulation symbols from the transmitting device, as shown in FIG. Figure 2 and Figure 3 The signaling 405 sent to the receiving device may also be a reference to Figure 2 An example of bit 215 is described.

[0133] At 410, a receiving device may receive signaling 405 and demodulate signaling 405. Signaling 405 may include payload information (e.g., u, information bits), associated shaping bits (e.g., s), or both. Demodulation may generate shaping bits 415-a, shaped information bits 430, or both. Shaped information bits 430 may, for example, represent log likelihood ratios (LLRs) corresponding to shaped information bits 430, where shaped information bits 430 may be a combination of information bits and mask bits (e.g., v+x). Similarly, shaping bits 415-a may represent LLR values associated with shaping bits 415-a. Decoder 420-a may decode (e.g., based on a second channel decoding scheme) shaping bits 415-a received via signaling 405, which may produce decoded shaping bits 415-b. At 425, the receiving device may generate a set of mask bits 435 (e.g., v) using the decoded shaping bits 415-b (e.g., s). For example, the receiving device may decompress the decoded shaping bits 415-b to generate the set of mask bits 435, such as by multiplying the shaping bits 415-b by a generator matrix (e.g., generator matrix G, where c=s*G) or other matrix or code.

[0134] At 440, the shaped information bits 430 may be deshaped using the set of mask bits 435. The deshaping process may generate deshaped information bits 445, which may, for example, represent LLRs corresponding to the deshaped information bits 445. The deshaping 440 may demask the shaped information bits 430, for example, by removing the set of mask bits 435 from the shaped information bits 430 or eliminating the effects of the set of mask bits 435 on the shaped information bits 430 (e.g., removing information associated with the set of mask bits 435 to generate LLRs for unmasked information bits). For example, eliminating the effects of the set of mask bits 435 may include removing information associated with the set of mask bits 435 from the shaped information bits 430, removing or altering one or more shaping parameters from the shaped information bits 430, or removing LLRs associated with the set of mask bits 435, and the like.

[0135] The deshaped information bits 445 (e.g., their LLRs) may be decoded using decoder 420-b to generate decoded information bits 450. For example, decoded information bits 450 may represent an information payload (e.g., u) decoded from a channel code used to protect the information payload. Decoder 420-b may be associated with a first decoding scheme or a decoding scheme different from a decoding scheme associated with decoder 420-a. Thus, shaped bits 415 may be decoded separately from information bits 450, and information bits 450 and shaped bits 415 may be associated with different coding rates, different modulation orders, different numbers of spatial layers, etc.

[0136] Figure 5 An example of a transmission scheme 500 supporting probability shaping and channel coding of wireless signals according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. Figure 5 Examples of one or more features of a framework for probability shaping of high-order modulation may be provided, such as reference Figure 2 and Figure 3 For example, the transmitting device may encode the information bits 505 using channel decoding 510-a, which may generate encoded information bits 515. At 520, the information bits 505 (e.g., the encoded information bits 515) may be used to generate mask bits 525, which may be combined with the encoded information bits 515 at 530 to generate shaped information bits. The transmitting device may also use the set of mask bits 525 to generate a set of shaped bits 545, or vice versa, and may encode the set of shaped bits 545 using channel decoding 510-b, which may generate encoded shaped bits 550.

[0137] generally, Figure 5540 and 550. The modulation symbols 555 of FIG. 54 are examples of techniques for modulating the coded information bits 515 into the shaped constellation 540 and modulating the shaped coded bits 550 into the non-shaped modulation symbols 555. In such examples, the modulation symbols corresponding to the information payload or information bits 505 may be shaped, and the modulation symbols corresponding to the shaped bits 545 may not be shaped. The shaped coded information bits 515 may be associated with the modulation 535-a, and the shaped coded bits 550 may be associated with the modulation 535-b, where the modulation 535-a and the modulation 535-b may represent different modulation schemes or different portions or subsets of the same modulation scheme (e.g., a joint modulation).

[0138] In examples where different modulation schemes are used (e.g., the encoded information bits 515 and the encoded shaped bits 550 may be modulated separately), the modulation symbols corresponding to the information payload or information bits 505 may be shaped, and the modulation symbols corresponding to the shaped bits 545 may not be shaped. In such cases, the data payload (e.g., the encoded information bits 515) and the encoded shaped bits 550 may be sent via different resources (e.g., time, frequency, spatial resources), using different coding rates, using different modulation orders, etc.

[0139] Where such modulation schemes may be applicable to cellular systems, the modulated coded information bits 515 and the coded shaping bits 550 may be included in different code blocks of the same transport block, in different transport blocks of the same data transmission (e.g., a downlink, uplink or sidelink shared channel and / or data channel transmission), or in different data transmissions (e.g., in different downlink, uplink or sidelink shared channels and / or data channel transmissions). In some cases, the information payload (e.g., the modulated coded information bits 515) may be transmitted via a data channel, and the shaping bits may be transmitted via a different channel (e.g., via a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE), via a control channel such as an uplink control channel, a downlink control channel, a sidelink control channel, or a dedicated channel for shaping bit transmission).

[0140] In some examples, the encoded information bits 515 and the encoded shaped bits 550 may be jointly modulated, which may produce a shaped constellation. For example, the encoded shaped bits 550 may be mapped to the symbols of the constellation (e.g., they may not be shaped), and the encoded information bits 515 may be mapped to the amplitudes of the constellation (e.g., they may be shaped). For example, the encoded shaped bits 550 may be represented by a vector s1, and the encoded information bits 515 (e.g., after masking) may be represented by vectors a1, a2, and a3. Thus, the transmitting device may map [s1, a1, a2, a3] to the same modulation, such as 16PAM modulation (e.g., the real or imaginary part of 256QAM modulation).

[0141] In such examples, the encoded shaping bits 550 can be encoded separately from the information bits 505 (e.g., data payload, associated parity bits). Additionally, because bit mapping to symbols can increase the reliability of the associated bits, mapping the encoded shaping bits 550 to symbols of a constellation diagram can increase reliability and provide more protection for the encoded shaping bits 550. Increasing the reliability of and protection for the encoded shaping bits 550 can provide increased reliability for deshaping the encoded information bits 515, because the shaping bits 545 can be used for deshaping. In some other examples, the joint modulation can include mapping the encoded shaping bits 550 to positions of the constellation where less shaping is performed (e.g., LSB bits).

[0142] In some cases, the first subset of the encoded information bits 515 may be shaped, and the second subset of the encoded information bits 515 may not be shaped (e.g., by combining with the set of mask bits at 520). For example, the mask is limited to the first subset of the encoded information bits 515 based on the corresponding position of the bit within the associated modulation symbol (e.g., the position in the modulation symbol to which one of the encoded information bits 515 of the first subset is mapped).

[0143] In a first example of 16QAM modulation, the second and fourth bits of the modulation symbol may be shaped (e.g., masked), while the first and third bits of the modulation symbol (e.g., which may correspond to the sign of the real or imaginary part of the constellation) may not be shaped. In a second example of 256QAM or 16 pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) modulation, the second bit of the modulation symbol may be preferentially used for shaping because the second bit may have the highest impact on the power of the constellation. For example, a second bit value of zero may represent an inner constellation, while a second bit value of one may represent an outer constellation.

[0144] In some cases, the shaping may additionally or alternatively be limited to systematic bits. In such cases, the shaping (eg, masking) performed at 530 on the encoded information bits 515 may be performed on the information bits 505 prior to encoding.

[0145] Figure 6 An example of a transmission scheme 600 supporting probability shaping and channel coding of wireless signals according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. Figure 6 Examples of one or more features of a framework for probability shaping of high-order modulation may be provided, such as reference Figure 2 , Figure 3 and Figure 5 Any of those features described in . Figure 6 A transmission scheme 600 for probability shaping of high order modulation is illustrated. For example, the transmission scheme 600 may represent a scheme for retransmission in response to feedback from a receiving device. The initial transmission 650 may be probability shaped, for example, as described in reference Figure 2 , Figure 3 or both described.

[0146] For example, the transmitting device may encode the information bits 605 using channel decoding 610-a, which may generate encoded information bits 615. At 620-a, the encoded information bits 615 may be used to generate mask bits 625-a, which may be combined with the encoded information bits 615 at 630-a to generate shaped information bits 660. The mask bits 625-a may be used to generate shaped bits 635-a, or vice versa. The transmitting device may encode the shaped bits 635-a using channel decoding 610-b (e.g., a second channel decoding scheme or a different channel decoding scheme), which may generate encoded shaped bits 640-a. The encoded shaped bits 640-a and the shaped information bits 660 may be modulated and transmitted to the receiving device, for example, as described in reference to FIG. Figures 2 to 5 described.

[0147] In some examples, the receiving device may provide corresponding feedback (e.g., ACK / NACK feedback) for the shaping bits 635-a and the information bits 605 to the transmitting device. The feedback may indicate, for example, whether the initial transmission 650 was correctly received by the receiving device (e.g., fully or partially received). Based on the feedback from the receiving device, the transmitting device may determine whether to retransmit one or more portions of the initial transmission 650. For example, if the receiving device indicates that the initial transmission 650 was correctly received or was completely received, the transmitting device may avoid retransmission. In some cases, the receiving device may indicate that the initial transmission was not correctly received (e.g., or was partially correctly received), and the transmitting device may determine to retransmit one or more portions of the initial transmission 650 based on the feedback.

[0148] In a first example, the receiving device may indicate that the shaped bits 635-a were correctly decoded by the receiving device (e.g., they may have a greater probability of correct decoding), but may indicate that the information bits 605 (e.g., data payload) were not correctly decoded. In such a case, the transmitting device may prepare new parity bits 645 (e.g., associated with the information bits 605) and retransmit them to the receiving device (e.g., according to incremental redundancy HARQ (IR-HARQ)). For example, the parity bits 645 may represent decoded information bits taken from a circular buffer of a channel decoder (e.g., associated with the channel decoder 610-a). The parity bits 645 may represent a different redundancy version (RV) than the encoded information bits 615 (e.g., from the initial transmission). For example, the initial transmission may be a first RV (e.g., RV0) associated with the channel decoder 610-a, and the retransmission may be associated with a different RV (e.g., RV1, RV2, RV3) associated with the channel decoder 610-a.

[0149] Parity bits 645 (e.g., new information bits) may be masked using new mask bits such as mask bits 625-b, which may reshape the parity bits for retransmission via a corresponding channel (e.g., parity bits 645 may be customized or optimized for channel conditions for retransmission 655). For example, at 620-b, the transmitting device may generate mask bits 625-b using parity bits 645, and may also generate shaping bits 635-b associated with mask bits 625-b (e.g., using one or more techniques described herein). At 630-b, the transmitting device may combine mask bits 625-b with parity bits 645 to shape or mask the parity bits. The combination of mask bits 625-b and parity bits 645 may generate shaped parity bits 665, which may be modulated and transmitted to a receiving device.

[0150] The shaping bits 635-b can be encoded using a channel decoder 610-c (e.g., a third channel decoder or a different channel decoder), which can generate encoded shaping bits 640-b. The encoded shaping bits 640-b can be modulated and sent to a receiving device as described herein. By shaping the parity bits 645, a shaping gain can be applied to the retransmission 655, which can improve the quality of communication and the likelihood of successfully receiving the retransmission 655. In some cases, the retransmission 655 can be sent without shaping the parity bits 645.

[0151] In a second example, in addition to or as an alternative to indicating that the information bits 605 (e.g., the data payload) were not correctly decoded, the receiving device may indicate that the shaped bits 635-a were not correctly decoded. In such a case, in addition to or as an alternative to preparing and sending the shaped parity bits 665 and the encoded shaped bits 640-b, the transmitting device may retransmit the encoded shaped bits 640-a (e.g., as part of the retransmission 655, using IR-HARQ).

[0152] Figure 7 An example of a transmission scheme 700 supporting probability shaping and channel coding of wireless signals according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. Figure 7 Examples of one or more features of a framework for probability shaping of high-order modulation may be provided, such as reference Figure 2 , Figure 3 , Figure 5 and Figure 6 For example, the transmitting device may encode the information bits 705 using channel decoding 710-a, which may generate encoded information bits 715 (eg, data and associated parity bits).

[0153] generally, Figure 7 is an example of frequency, space and / or time selective shaping of the encoded information bits 715. After channel decoding 710-a, mask bit generation 720 may shape the encoded information bits 715 by applying masking or shaping. At 720, the transmitting device may generate one or more sets of mask bits 725 using the encoded information bits 715. For example, the transmitting device may separate the encoded information bits 715 into two bit sequences (e.g., x1 and x2), and may generate corresponding mask bits 725-a and 725-b (e.g., v1 and v2) based on the two bit sequences. The transmitting device may generate shaping bits 740-a and shaping bits 740-b (e.g., v1 and v2) based on (e.g., indicating) mask bits 725-a or mask bits 725-b (e.g., s1 and s2), respectively.

[0154] The mask bits 725-a or the mask bits 725-b may depend on the corresponding sequence (e.g., x1 or x2) of the two sequences of the encoded information bits 715, so that the combination of the sequence of mask bits 725-a or the mask bits 725-b and the corresponding sequence (e.g., x1+v1 or x2+v2) of the encoded information bits 715 is non-uniformly distributed (e.g., shaped). The mask bits 725-a may be equal to the shaping bits 740-a multiplied by the first generating matrix (e.g., G1), and the mask bits 725-b may be equal to the shaping bits 740-b multiplied by the second generating matrix (e.g., G2). In some examples, the mask bits 725-a or the mask bits 725-b may be generated from the shaping bits 740-a or the shaping bits 740-b, respectively, via a corresponding linear block code (e.g., polar code, other code) having the first generating matrix or the second generating matrix. The shaping bits 740 - a and the shaping bits 740 - b may be encoded (eg, jointly or separately) using channel decoding 710 - b , which may generate encoded shaping bits 745 .

[0155] Shaping of the corresponding sequences of the encoded information bits 715 using mask bits 725-a and mask bits 725-b can support frequency, space, and / or time selective shaping of different sequences of the encoded information bits 715. For example, different shaping parameters can be applied (e.g., using corresponding mask bits 725-a and 725-b) to sequences of the encoded information bits 715 transmitted on different resources 735-a and 735-b, such as different frequency resources (e.g., resource blocks (RBs)), time resources (e.g., OFDM symbols), and / or spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers). The transmitting device can therefore generate separate shaping bits (e.g., shaping bits 740-a and shaping bits 740-b) and separate mask bits (e.g., mask bits 725-a and mask bits 725-b), and apply different mask bits 725 to different portions of the data transmission (e.g., different sequences of the encoded information bits 715, each sequence corresponding to a different resource). For example, at 730-a, the transmitting device may combine a first sequence of encoded information bits 715 with mask bits 725-a, and at 730-b, the transmitting device may combine a second sequence of encoded information bits 715 with mask bits 725-b.

[0156] As described herein, shaping parameters or associated de-shaping parameters may be configured for a transmitting device or determined by a transmitting device, or both, using one or more techniques or methods. For example, shaping parameters (e.g., or de-shaping parameters) may be configured by a network device 105 for a UE 115 (e.g., via signaling, as indicated by one or more parameters), determined by a network device 105 for use by the network device 105, determined by a UE 115 for use by a UE 115 or by another UE 115, or jointly configured and / or determined by a UE 115 and a network device 105 (e.g., via signaling, as indicated by one or more parameters). The shaping parameters (e.g., or de-shaping parameters) may be based on one or more channel qualities of an uplink, sidelink, or downlink channel used for communication between a transmitting device and a receiving device, such as based on one or more measurements performed by the transmitting device, the receiving device, or both.

[0157] Different sequences of encoded information bits 715 may each correspond to respective data associated with transmission via different time, frequency, and / or spatial resources. The sequences of information bits may be jointly encoded (e.g., using channel coding 710-a, resulting in one code block for data encoding), and similarly, different sets of shaping bits 740-a and 740-b may be jointly encoded (e.g., using channel coding 710-b).

[0158] In some cases, the transmitting device may transmit control information or configuration information to the receiving device, the control information or configuration information indicating one or more shaping schemes for the shaping bits 740-a, the shaping bits 740-b, or both. The control information or configuration information associated with the shaping scheme may include a shaping rate associated with the shaping bits 740-a, the shaping bits 740-b, or both. The shaping rate may represent a ratio of the number of shaping bits 740 to the number of mask bits 725, or may represent a ratio of the number of mask bits 725 to the difference between the number of shaping bits 740 and the number of mask bits 725. Additionally or alternatively, the control information or configuration information may include one or more of one or more generating matrices (e.g., G1 and / or G2) for generating mask bits 725, corresponding bit quantities (e.g., lengths) of shaping bits 740-a and 740-b, or one or more resources (e.g., time, frequency, and / or spatial resources) associated with the combination of corresponding encoded information bits 715 and mask bits 725 at 730-a and / or 730-b.

[0159] Similarly, the receiving device may receive signaling from the transmitting device via different resources 735 or one of the resources 735 and may demodulate the signaling to generate corresponding shaped bits 740-a and 740-b, corresponding shaped information bits, or both. Figure 4As described, the receiving device may generate a corresponding set of mask bits 725-a or 725-b (e.g., or both) based on decoding the corresponding shaping bits 740-a or 740-b. The receiving device may use the set of mask bits 725-a, 725-b, or both (e.g., using corresponding deshaping parameters associated with or indicated by the set of mask bits 725-a, 725-b, or both) to deshape the shaped information bits. For example, based on whether the receiving device receives one or two information bit sequences, the receiving device may use the set of mask bits 725-a, 725-b, or both.

[0160] Figure 8 An example of a transmission scheme 800 supporting probability shaping and channel coding of wireless signals according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. Figure 8 Examples of one or more features of a framework for probability shaping of high-order modulation may be provided, such as reference Figure 2 , Figure 3 and Figures 5 to 7 Any of those features described in . Figure 8 A transmission scheme 800 for probability shaping of high order modulation is illustrated. For example, the transmission scheme 800 may represent a scheme for transmitting shaped bits to a receiving device. The transmission may be probability shaped, for example, as described in reference Figure 2 , Figure 3 or both as described herein. For example, the transmitting device may encode the information bits 805-a using channel decoding 810-a, which may generate encoded information bits. At 815-a, the information bits 805-a (e.g., unencoded information bits 805-a) may be used to generate mask bits 820-a, which may be combined with the encoded information bits at 825-a to generate shaped information bits. At 830-a, the shaped information bits may be modulated for transmission, as described herein, which may generate a shaped constellation 835-a of modulation symbols for transmission to the receiving device.

[0161] The masking bits 820-a may be used to generate the shaping bits 840-a, or vice versa. In some cases, the shaping bits 840-a may be connected to (e.g., included in) a subsequent transmission (e.g., a subsequent data transmission) of the information bits 805-b. For example, the shaping bits 840-a may be connected to the information bits 805-b and may be jointly encoded using a channel decoding 810-b (e.g., a second channel decoding or a different channel decoding). At 815-b, the shaping bits 840-a and the information bits 805-b (e.g., uncoded bits) may also be used (e.g., together, jointly) to generate masking bits 820-b for shaping the shaping bits 840-a and the information bits 805-b. At 825-b, the masking bits 820-b may be combined with the encoded shaping bits and information bits to mask or shape the encoded shaping bits and information bits. As described herein, at 830 - b , the shaped bits may be modulated for transmission, which may generate a shaped constellation 835 - b of modulation symbols for transmission to a receiving device.

[0162] Because the shaping bits 840-a can be jointly encoded with the information bits 805-b for transmission, the number of transmissions to the receiving device can be reduced, which can reduce the overhead of the wireless system. In addition, because the shaping bits 840-a can be shaped using the information bits 805-b, the shaping bits 840-a can be transmitted using a shaping gain, which can improve the communication quality and performance of the transmission of the shaping bits 840-a. In addition, the shaping bits 840-a can be encoded using a different coding scheme than the associated information bits 805-a (e.g., using channel decoding 810-b), which can support different decoding rates for the shaping bits 840-a and the information bits 805-a (e.g., among other benefits).

[0163] The masking bits 820-b may also be used to generate the shaping bits 840-b, or vice versa. In some cases, the shaping bits 840-b may be connected to (e.g., included in) a subsequent transmission (e.g., a subsequent data transmission) of the information bits 805-c. For example, the shaping bits 840-b may be connected to the information bits 805-c and may be jointly encoded using a channel decoding 810-c (e.g., a third channel decoding or a different channel decoding). At 815-c, the shaping bits 840-b and the information bits 805-c (e.g., uncoded bits) may also be used (e.g., together, jointly) to generate masking bits 820-c for shaping the shaping bits 840-b and the information bits 805-c. At 825-c, the masking bits 820-c may be combined with the encoded shaping bits and information bits to mask or shape the encoded shaping bits and information bits. As described herein, at 830 - c , the shaped bits may be modulated for transmission, which may generate a shaped constellation 835 - c of modulation symbols for transmission to a receiving device.

[0164] The process of generating shaping bits 840 and concatenating shaping bits 840 with subsequent transmissions can continue for any number of transmissions or shaping bits. For example, mask bits 820-c can also be used to generate shaping bits 840-c, or vice versa, which can be concatenated with information bits 805 for joint encoding, shaping, and transmission.

[0165] Fig. 9 An example of a transmission scheme 900 supporting probability shaping and channel coding of wireless signals according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. Fig. 9 A transmission scheme 900 for probability shaping of high order modulation is illustrated. For example, the transmission scheme 900 may represent a scheme for transmitting shaped bits to a receiving device. The transmission may be probability shaped, for example, as described in reference Figure 2 , Figure 3 and Figures 5 to 8 As described in any of the above. For example, at 910-a, information bits 905-a (e.g., uncoded information bits 905-a) can be used to generate mask bits 915-a, which can be combined with information bits 905-a at 920-a to generate shaped information bits (e.g., uncoded bits). The transmitting device can encode the information bits 905-a using channel decoding 925-a, which can generate coded information bits. As described herein, at 930-a, the shaped coded information bits can be modulated for transmission, which can generate a shaped constellation 935-a of modulation symbols for transmission to the receiving device.

[0166] The masking bits 915-a may be used to generate the shaping bits 940-a, or vice versa. In some cases, the shaping bits 940-a may be connected to (e.g., included in) a subsequent transmission (e.g., a subsequent data transmission) of the information bits 905-b. For example, at 910-b, the shaping bits 940-a may be connected to the information bits 905-b (e.g., uncoded bits) and may be used (e.g., together, jointly) to generate the masking bits 915-b for shaping the information bits 905-b. At 920-b, the masking bits 915-b may be combined with the information bits 905-b to mask or shape the information bits 905-b. The transmitting device may encode the shaping bits 940-a and the information bits 905-b, for example, using channel decoding 925-b. As described herein, at 930 - b , the shaped coded bits may be modulated for transmission, which may generate a shaped constellation 935 - b of modulation symbols for transmission to a receiving device.

[0167] Because the shaping bits 940-a can be jointly encoded with the information bits 905-b for transmission, the number of transmissions to the receiving device can be reduced, which can reduce the overhead of the wireless system. Fig. 9In the illustrated example, the shaping bits 940-a may be shaped without the information bits 905-b, which may reduce the complexity of the shaping scheme. In such cases, the transmitting device may use a systematic code to separate the shaping bits 940-a from the information bits 905-b. In addition, the shaping bits 940-a may be encoded using a different coding scheme than the associated information bits 905-a (e.g., using channel coding 925-b), which may support different coding rates for the shaping bits 940-a and the information bits 905-a (e.g., among other benefits).

[0168] The masking bits 915-b may be used to generate the shaping bits 940-b, or vice versa. In some cases, the shaping bits 940-b may be connected to a subsequent transmission of the information bits 905-c (e.g., a subsequent data transmission). For example, at 910-c, the shaping bits 940-b may be connected to the information bits 905-c (e.g., uncoded bits) and may be used (e.g., together, jointly) to generate the masking bits 915-c for shaping the information bits 905-c. At 920-c, the masking bits 915-c may be combined with the information bits 905-c to mask or shape the information bits 905-c. The transmitting device may, for example, encode the shaping bits 940-b and the information bits 905-c using channel decoding 925-c. As described herein, at 930 - c , the shaped coded bits may be modulated for transmission, which may generate a shaped constellation 935 - c of modulation symbols for transmission to a receiving device.

[0169] The process of generating shaping bits 940 and concatenating shaping bits 940 with subsequent transmissions can continue for any number of transmissions or shaping bits. For example, mask bits 915-c can also be used to generate shaping bits 940-c, or vice versa, which can be concatenated with information bits 905 for joint encoding, shaping and transmission.
