Abstract
A wearable display system includes one or more nanowire LED microdisplays. The nanowire micro LED display may be monochromatic or panchromatic. The nanowire LEDs forming the array may advantageously have a narrow angle emission profile and a high light output. Where multiple nanowire LED micro-displays are utilized, the micro-displays may be located on different sides of an optical combiner, such as X-cube prisms, which receive light from different micro-displays and output light from the same side of the cube. The optical combiner directs the light to a projection optic that outputs the light to an eyepiece that relays the light to the eyes of the user. The eyepiece may output light to the user's eyes at different wavefront divergence amounts to place virtual content on different depth planes.
