Claims

1. A garment for supporting the upper torso, comprising: Central Bridge; Outer flap; breast cup, the breast cup being positioned between the center bridge and the outer flap and including a lower transition edge, the lower transition edge including the lower boundary of the breast cup; and a support coil fixed along a portion of the lower transition edge, the support coil including an inner end positioned near or at the upper portion of the center bridge and an outer end positioned between the lower portion of the center bridge and the outer flap.

2. The upper torso support garment of claim 1, wherein the outer end of the support coil is aligned with the lower transition edge along the middle third segment of the lower transition edge.

3. The upper torso support garment of claim 1, wherein the lower transition edge includes an inner end point, an outer end point, and a midpoint between the inner end point and the outer end point; and the outer end of the support coil is substantially aligned with the midpoint.

4. The upper torso support garment of claim 1, wherein the lower transition edge includes a first length, and the support coil includes a second length, the second length being in the range of about 40% to 60% of the first length.

5. The upper torso support garment according to claim 4, wherein the second length is approximately half the first length.

6. The upper torso support garment according to claim 1, wherein: The support coil is attached to one or more textile layers; and at least one of the one or more textile layers includes a foam layer.

7. The upper torso support garment according to claim 1, further comprising: A support bracket positioned below the breast cup and extending between the central bridge and the outer wing; Furthermore, the bra cup and the support include an outer textile layer, an inner textile layer, and a first textile piece held between the outer textile layer and the inner textile layer, wherein the first textile piece extends through a portion of the support, across the lower transition edge, and through the outer portion of the bra cup.

8. The upper torso support garment of claim 7, wherein in the outer portion of the breast cup, the outer textile layer is indirectly attached to the inner textile layer by a first textile piece interlaced between the outer textile layer and the inner textile layer; and in the inner portion of the breast cup, the outer textile layer is directly attached to the inner textile layer, and the first textile piece is not interlaced between the outer textile layer and the inner textile layer.

9. The upper torso support garment of claim 7, wherein the central bridge comprises the inner textile layer, the outer textile layer, and a second textile piece held between the outer textile layer and the inner textile layer; and the second textile piece comprises one or more of a higher modulus of elasticity and a lower elongation compared to the first textile piece.

10. A garment for supporting the upper torso, comprising: A breast cup, the breast cup including an inner portion and an outer portion; the breast cup including an outer textile layer, an inner textile layer and a first textile piece held between the outer textile layer and the inner textile layer; in the outer portion of the breast cup, the outer textile piece is interposed between the outer textile layer and the inner textile layer; and in the inner portion of the breast cup, the outer textile layer and the inner textile layer are directly adjacent to each other.

11. The upper torso support garment according to claim 10, wherein: The bra cup also includes a lower transition edge that includes the lower boundary of the bra cup; the upper torso support garment includes a support positioned below the bra cup, wherein the lower transition edge extends between the support and the bra cup; and the support includes the outer textile layer, the inner textile layer, and the first textile piece that extends through a portion of the support, across the lower transition edge, and into the outer portion of the bra cup.

12. The upper torso support garment according to claim 10, further comprising: A center bridge is positioned adjacent to the inner portion of the bra cup; the center bridge includes the inner textile layer, the outer textile layer, and a second textile piece held between the outer textile layer and the inner textile layer; and the second textile piece has one or more of a higher modulus of elasticity and a lower elongation compared to the first textile piece.

13. The upper torso support garment according to claim 10, further comprising: The lower transition edge includes the lower boundary of the breast cup, wherein the lower transition edge includes a first length; and a support coil fixed along the lower transition edge, the support coil including a second length shorter than the first length.

14. The upper torso support garment of claim 13, wherein the lower transition edge is divisible into one-third length segments; and the outer end of the support coil is aligned with the lower transition edge along the middle one-third segment of the lower transition edge.

15. The upper torso support garment according to claim 13, wherein: The lower transition edge includes a midpoint; and the outer end of the support coil is substantially aligned with the midpoint.

16. The upper torso support garment of claim 13, wherein the second length is in the range of about 40% to 60% of the first length.

17. The upper torso support garment of claim 16, wherein the second length is approximately half the first length.

18. The upper torso support garment of claim 13, wherein the outer end of the support coil terminates at a position aligned with the inner edge of the first textile piece.

19. A garment for supporting the upper torso, comprising: First breast cup and second breast cup; A frame extending around the periphery of at least a portion of a first breast cup and a second breast cup, the frame comprising: a center bridge positioned between the first breast cup and the second breast cup; a first support positioned below the first breast cup; and a second support positioned below the second breast cup; a central region including at least the center bridge; a first outer region including at least a portion of the first support and at least a portion of the first breast cup; and a second outer region including at least a portion of the second support and at least a portion of the second breast cup, wherein the central region has lower tensile properties compared to the first and second inner regions.

20. The upper torso support garment according to claim 19, wherein: The first breast cup includes a lower transition edge that bridges the first breast cup to the frame; the lower transition edge bends as it extends from an inner endpoint near the central bridge to an outer endpoint; and the lower transition edge includes a midpoint between the inner endpoint and the outer endpoint.

21. The upper torso support garment of claim 20, further comprising an interface transitioning from the central region to the first outer region, wherein the interface is aligned with the midpoint.

22. The upper torso support garment of claim 20, further comprising a support coil extending flexibly along at least a portion of the lower transition edge, wherein the support coil includes an inner end and an outer end, the inner end being positioned near the inner endpoint of the lower transition edge.

23. The upper torso support garment of claim 22, wherein the outer end is aligned with the middle third of the lower transition edge.

24. The upper torso support garment of claim 22, wherein the outer end is aligned with the midpoint of the lower transition edge.

25. The upper torso support garment according to claim 19, wherein: The first breast cup, the second breast cup, and the frame include an outermost textile layer, an innermost textile layer, and a first piece and a second piece held between the outermost textile layer and the innermost textile layer; the central region includes the first piece; and the first outer region includes the second piece, which, compared to the first piece, includes at least one of a lower modulus of elasticity and a higher elongation.

26. The upper torso support garment of claim 25, wherein the second piece extends from the first support and enters the outer portion of the first breast cup.
