Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to an adapter for a motor-driven dental treatment device. The adapter comprises a receiving body with an outer surface that is at least partially cylindrical, with a locking pin and a locking groove extending in a circumferential direction of the receiving body, as well as an internal recess extending in an axial direction of the receiving body. The receiving body is designed to insert the adapter, with the locking pin first, into a receptacle of the treatment device. The internal recess serves to accommodate a dental tool. It provides an opening for inserting the dental tool on a first end face of the receiving body. The locking pin provides a second end face of the receiving body opposite the first end face. Furthermore, the adapter comprises a fastening device assigned to the internal recess for securing the dental tool in the recess.
[0002] Furthermore, the invention relates to a tool assembly with the adapter and with a dental tool fixed in the internal through-recess of the adapter, as well as the use of the adapter for receiving a root canal file as a dental tool.
[0003] Adapters of this type for motor-driven dental treatment devices have been known for many decades, for example, from US 2011 / 0300506 A1. These adapters are used to hold a dental tool, such as a file, and are inserted into a receptacle of the dental treatment device with the locking pin facing forward.
[0004] The adapter is typically secured in the dental treatment device by locking. Specifically, a locking latch on the treatment device engages the locking groove of the locking pin. The locking latch is typically spring-loaded and pressed into the locking groove. It can be mechanically released or activated, for example, at the push of a button. This ensures safe and quick insertion of the adapter into the dental treatment device.
[0005] To accommodate the dental tools, the known adapters feature a blind-hole-like recess. The dental tools are inserted into the blind hole on the first end face of the adapter. The dental tool is typically secured in the blind-hole-like recess by means of a force-locking clamp.
[0006] The limited depth of the blind-hole-like recess determines the relative mounting position of the dental tool to the adapter. The relative position of the dental tool to the adapter can be varied to an extremely small extent. This means that a large number of different tools must be kept ready for different types of dental treatment or different anatomies, for example with regard to the ability to open the mouth, tooth length, and / or root canal length. To solve this problem, DE 929 867 C proposes inserting the dental tool at different depths into an extended handle of the treatment device for a hand-operated treatment device, while also recognizing that a long handle is perceived as disruptive and obstructive during treatment.
[0007] The object of the invention is to provide an improved adapter for a dental treatment device and a tool assembly.
[0008] To achieve the object, the invention in conjunction with the preamble of claim 1 is characterized in that the internal recess extends from the first end face to at least the locking groove of the locking pin and preferably through the locking groove.
[0009] Extending the internal recess into the area of the locking groove of the locking pin or beyond makes it possible to insert the dental tool very deeply into the adapter if necessary, and in particular significantly deeper than is currently possible, thus limiting or varying the effective length of the tool, i.e. the part of the tool that protrudes from the adapter in the area of the first end face. To avoid lengthening the adapter, the locking pin, which was previously unused for variable-length assembly of the dental tool, is utilized. The particular advantage of the invention is that by extending the recess, a high degree of variability in positioning and fastening the dental tool in the adapter is achieved while maintaining the same overall length of the adapter, and consequently fewer different types of tools with different lengths need to be kept on hand.Adjusting the effective length of a dental tool can therefore no longer be influenced solely by its length, but also by its installation position in the adapter. This results in significant cost reductions, as the manufacturer, distributor, and / or dentist need to produce or maintain fewer different tools, or can produce or purchase the dental tools in larger quantities and thus more cost-effectively.
[0010] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the internal recess is designed as a through-hole that extends from the first end face of the receiving body to the second end face of the receiving body and that has a second opening on the second end face of the receiving body. Provision is made for the through-hole to also extend through the locking pin to the second end face of the adapter provided by the locking pin. The provision of the through-hole instead of the blind-hole-like recess advantageously further improves the ability to insert the dental tool into the adapter with variable length and to adjust the effective length of the dental tool.
[0011] Further cost advantages arise in the manufacture of the adapter. A through hole is easier to produce than a blind hole.
[0012] In addition, the through-hole can be cleaned and sterilized more easily than a blind-hole-like recess. For example, a cleaning agent can be easily blown out of a through-hole. Likewise, foreign objects, such as dirt particles or a broken dental tool shaft, can be easily and reliably removed from the through-hole. Monitoring the proper cleaning, sterilization, and patency of the through-hole is also simplified.
[0013] According to a further development of the invention, the internal recess—regardless of whether it is designed as an extended blind hole or a through-hole—has a constant inner diameter and / or a constant cross-sectional geometry in the axial direction. The constant inner diameter or constant cross-sectional geometry advantageously facilitates the variable positioning of the dental tool in the adapter. Furthermore, manufacturing advantages arise from the provision of the constant inner diameter or constant cross-sectional geometry.
[0014] According to a further development of the invention, the depth of the locking groove, determined perpendicular to the axial direction in a radial direction, is less than one-third of the outer diameter of the receiving body in the area of the cylindrical outer surface. This advantageously ensures sufficient mechanical stability of the adapter. At the same time, it ensures that the adapter is reliably held in the holder of the dental treatment device.
[0015] According to a further development of the invention, the fastening device serves to secure the dental tool in the adapter in a form-fitting or force-fitting manner, or both form-fitting and force-fitting manner. This advantageously allows for secure fastening and simultaneously variable positioning of the dental tool in the adapter, despite the variable position of the tool in the internal recess and the lack of a stop in the through-hole, which is provided by the base of the known blind-hole-like recess.
[0016] According to a further development of the invention, the fastening device provides at least one locking lug, which engages with a correspondingly shaped locking recess in the dental tool and projects into the internal recess. In particular, numerous locking recesses are provided on the dental tool at regular or irregular intervals. The locking lug of the adapter's fastening device can thus be inserted into one of the many locking recesses provided by the dental tool as needed.
[0017] According to a further development of the invention, a spring arm serves as the fastening device. The spring arm is formed as part of the receiving body. It has the locking lug on its inner side facing the internal through-recess. An outer side of the spring arm opposite the inner side can further provide part of the lateral surface of the receiving body. The axial length of the spring arm can be determined such that, in an assembly position of the adapter in which it is inserted into the receptacle of the dental treatment device, the spring arm protrudes at least partially into the receptacle of the dental treatment device. Advantageously, the spring arm can be blocked in the receptacle against springing open, with the result that the locking lug of the adapter is firmly seated in the locking recess of the dental tool. The dental tool is thus positively inserted into the adapter and secured against accidental release.
[0018] According to a further development of the invention, the fastening device can provide two opposing spring arms, each with at least one locking lug. The locking lugs of the two spring arms face each other. The provision of the two opposing spring arms with the two locking lugs advantageously results in increased security against unintentional displacement or loosening of the dental tool in the adapter.
[0019] According to a further development of the invention, the fastening device is formed separately from the receiving body. For example, a fastening insert is provided as the fastening device. The fastening insert provides the locking lug and is manufactured as a bent sheet metal part. The fastening insert is inserted into a fastening recess, in particular a pocket-shaped one, provided on the casing side of the receiving body, with the locking lug facing forward. In the assembled position of the adapter, the fastening insert inserted into the fastening recess of the receiving body engages at least partially in the receptacle of the dental treatment device and is thus secured in the fastening recess of the receiving body. At the same time, it is ensured that the locking lug engages positively in a locking recess provided by the dental tool and is firmly seated there. Advantageously, the fastening insert can be manufactured very cost-effectively as a bent sheet metal part.
[0020] According to a further development of the invention, a functional opening is provided on the housing body, circumferentially spaced from the fastening device, on the casing side. This opening extends from the outer casing surface to the internal through-hole. The provision of the casing-side assembly opening advantageously simplifies the manufacture of the adapter, particularly with regard to the internal recess.
[0021] According to a further development of the invention, the functional opening is located at the level of the locking lug. Preferably, the functional opening is located opposite the fastening device or rotated 90° relative to it. This advantageously allows the correct positioning and / or locking and / or securing of the dental tool in the adapter to be monitored or checked. Optionally, the fastening device can be unlocked and / or locked through the functional opening.
[0022] According to a further development of the invention, the fastening device provides a clamping nut that is screwed onto the receiving body of the adapter. When the clamping nut is in the assembled position, this clamping nut presses at least one and preferably two or more clamping jaws of the receiving body, distributed in the circumferential direction, against the dental tool inserted in the through-hole. In this way, the dental tool is secured in the adapter with a force fit. Optionally, the clamping jaws can provide a locking lug or other profiles that engage in correspondingly shaped locking or profile recesses of the dental tool. In this case, in addition to clamping, the dental tool is secured in the adapter with a form fit.
[0023] According to a further development of the invention, the clamping jaws of the receiving body and / or the clamping nut itself provide at least one wedge surface arranged at an acute angle to the axial direction of the receiving body. This creates a clamping effect when the clamping nut is screwed onto the receiving body.
[0024] According to a further development of the invention, the clamping nut is screwed onto the receiving body from the second end face, i.e., via the locking pin. This advantageously secures the clamping nut against falling off during use of the dental treatment device. The receiving body, which widens toward the first end face, prevents the clamping nut from slipping off the first end face.
[0025] The adapter can be constructed in one piece or in multiple parts. A single-piece design reliably prevents individual components from accidentally becoming loose or falling off during treatment. A multi-piece adapter, on the other hand, can be easier to clean and / or more cost-effective to manufacture.
[0026] For example, the diameter or cross-section of the recess can decrease toward the opening provided on the first end face. This provides a means of securing the dental tool against loss, preventing it from being swallowed or inhaled.
[0027] To achieve this object, the invention has the features of patent claim 18. Accordingly, the tool assembly comprises the adapter according to the invention and a dental tool secured in the internal through-hole of the adapter. The dental tool can, in particular, provide a plurality of regularly or irregularly spaced locking recesses and can thus be positively secured in the adapter and simultaneously variably positioned.
[0028] The adapter is particularly used to hold a root canal file as a dental tool.
[0029] Further advantages, features, and details of the invention can be derived from the further subclaims and the following description. Features mentioned therein may be essential to the invention individually or in any combination. Features and details of the adapter described according to the invention naturally also apply in connection with the tool assembly according to the invention, and vice versa. Thus, the disclosure of the individual aspects of the invention can always be referenced reciprocally. The drawings serve merely as examples to clarify the invention and are not limiting in nature.

[0031] Dental treatments are often performed using a Fig. 1 in a perspective, partial sectional view. The dental treatment device 200 is designed, in particular, as a handpiece of a dental workstation. The dental treatment device 200 has drive and transmission means (not shown in detail but designed in a known manner) for rotationally driving a tool assembly inserted in a receptacle of the treatment device 200. The tool assembly, which comprises an adapter 1 with a locking pin 4 and a dental tool 100, is rotatably held in the receptacle of the treatment device 200. The drive function of the dental treatment device 200 can be provided, for example, pneumatically or by an electric motor.
[0032] For rotatable setting of the Fig. 2 to 5, the adapter 1 provides a locking pin 4 with a locking groove 8 and an exemplary plate-shaped or lens-shaped projection 7. A Fig. 1, a locking latch (not shown) of the treatment device 200 engages in the locking groove 8 to lock the tool assembly in the receptacle of the treatment device 200. To transmit the rotational movement from the treatment device 200 to the tool assembly, the adapter 1 provides a lateral, flat contact surface 9.
[0033] As a dental tool 100, for example, a drilling tool or a file, in particular a root canal file, is inserted into the adapter 1. The adapter 1, which is in Fig. 6 is shown individually, is designed in two parts in this first exemplary embodiment of the invention. It provides a receiving body 2 and a fastening insert 3 as a fastening device.
[0034] The one in the Fig. 8 and Fig. The receiving body 2 of the adapter 1, shown in detail in Figure 9, is essentially cylindrical and elongated in an axial direction 13. On the inside, the receiving body 2 has an internal recess 11, which is designed as a through-hole and extends from a first end face 6.1 of the receiving body to a second end face 6.2 of the receiving body 2, opposite the first end face 6.1. The second end face 6.2 is provided by the projection 7 of the locking pin 4. Openings 10, 12 of the through-hole 11 are provided on both end faces 6.1, 6.2. The second end face 6.2 is provided by the locking pin 4, which is implemented as part of the receiving body 2.
[0035] An outer surface 5 of the receiving body 2 is cylindrically shaped in sections. The cylindrical shape of the outer surface 5 corresponds to the shape of the receptacle of the treatment device 200. In addition, the receiving body 2 of the adapter 1 provides a pocket-shaped fastening recess 15 on the casing side adjacent to the first end face 6.1. The fastening recess 15 serves to accommodate the fastening insert 3. The fastening recess 15 extends from the outer surface 5 of the receiving body 2 to the internal through-hole 11.
[0036] The fastening insert 3, which is in Fig. 7, has an axial length which is dimensioned such that the fastening insert 3 can be inserted into the fastening recess 15 formed on the receiving body 2 and, in this case, with a fork receptacle 16 provided in this mounted state adjacent to the first end face 6.1, laterally engages around a shaft of the dental tool 100 provided in the through-recess 11.
[0037] The fastening insert 3 furthermore provides a locking lug 14 facing the through-hole 11 when mounted. The locking lug 14 protrudes partially into the through-hole 11 and engages in one of typically many locking recesses provided by the dental tool 100. The locking recesses of the dental tool 100 are spaced apart in the axial direction 13. By providing the many locking recesses, it is possible to insert the dental tool 100 to different depths into the through-hole 11 of the receiving body 2 of the adapter, thus providing a different effective length for the dental tool 100.
[0038] An internal geometry of the through-hole 11 is adapted to an external geometry of the shaft of the dental tool 100. In particular, an inner surface of the through-hole 11 is partially cylindrical. Furthermore, two flat partial inner surfaces are formed opposite one another. By providing the flat and mutually parallel partial inner surfaces, it is possible to transmit the rotational movement provided by the medical treatment device 200 to the adapter 1 and, in a form-fitting manner, further to the dental tool 100. The form-fitting transmission of the rotational movement occurs independently of the position of the dental tool 100 in the adapter 1. In particular, the form-fitting transmission of the rotational movement and torques occurs through the described geometry of the tool shaft and the partial inner surface of the through-hole 11.The locking lug 14 of the adapter 1 and the corresponding locking recess of the dental tool 100 do not transmit the corresponding torques.
[0039] The length and position of the fastening recess 15 on the receiving body 2 and the geometry of the fastening insert 3 are determined such that, in an assembly position of the tool assembly in which it is inserted into the receptacle of the medical treatment device 200, the fastening insert 3 protrudes into this very receptacle of the treatment device 200. As a result, the fastening insert 3 is fixed and blocked in the fastening recess 15. In the assembly position, the locking lug 14 of the fastening insert 3 engages positively and permanently in the corresponding locking recess of the dental tool 100, with the result that the relative position of the dental tool 100 and adapter 1 is fixed.
[0040] Fig. 10 shows an alternatively designed fastening device 3, which, as before, is formed separately from the receiving body 2 and is inserted into the fastening recess 15 formed in the receiving body 2. Instead of the forked recess 16, the fastening insert 3 provides a ring receptacle 17, with which the fastening insert 3 engages the dental tool 100 on the casing side. The ring receptacle 17 ensures that the fastening insert 3 is held captively in the fastening recess 15.
[0041] The fastening device 3 designed as a fastening insert 3 in the present embodiments of the invention can, for example, be designed as a bent sheet metal part and can thus be realized cost-effectively.
[0042] The Fig. 11 and Fig. 12 show an alternative embodiment of the receiving body 2 of the adapter 1. The receiving body 2 has a blind-hole-like internal recess 11 that extends from the first end face 6.1 toward the second end face 6.2. It extends into the locking pin 4 in the axial direction 13 and is guided, in particular, through the locking groove 8 extending in the circumferential direction into the region of the projection 7 of the locking pin 4. An opening 12 in the region of the second end face 6.2 is omitted.
[0043] The Fig. 13 to 16 show a second embodiment of the adapter 1 and the tool assembly comprising this adapter. The adapter 1 provides, in a known manner, the through-hole 11 for receiving the dental tool 100. The internal recess 11 is designed as a through-hole. It extends, as usual, from the first end face 6.1 to the second end face 6.2, which is provided by the locking pin 4. However, the fastening device is not formed separately and independently. Rather, the adapter 1 is realized in one piece. A spring arm 18, which is realized on the casing side, serves as the fastening device. The spring arm 18 is part of the receiving body 2. It extends in the axial direction 13 of the adapter 1.
[0044] The spring arm 18 provides the locking lug 14 on an inner side facing the through-hole 11, which engages in a known manner in a correspondingly shaped locking recess of a dental tool 100 having a plurality of locking recesses. On an outer side opposite the inner side, the spring arm 18 provides a portion of the outer circumferential surface 5 of the receiving body 2.
[0045] The spring arm 18 protrudes from the receiving body 2 of the adapter 1 adjacent to the first end face 6.1 in the direction of the second end face 6.2. A free end of the spring arm 18 faces the second end face 6.2. A length of the spring arm 18, determined in the axial direction 13, is determined such that the spring arm 18 of the adapter 1 engages in the receptacle of the dental treatment device 200 in the assembly position of the tool assembly. The spring arm 18 cannot then be lifted in the assembly position, and the locking lug 14 is blocked in the locking recess of the dental tool 100 in a known manner.
[0046] In order to be able to check the correct assembly and positioning of the dental tool 100 in the through-hole 11 of the adapter 1, a first functional opening 19 extending longitudinally in the axial direction 13 and two further, window-like functional openings 20, 21 are formed on the adapter 1 in the region of a bottom side opposite the spring arm 18. The functional openings 19, 20, 21 also serve to facilitate the manufacturability of the adapter 1, which in this case is made of a metallic material.
[0047] The Fig. Figure 17 shows the medical treatment device 200 and a tool assembly inserted into the receptacle of the treatment device 200 in a third embodiment. The third embodiment of the tool assembly is also shown in the Fig. 18 to 20. The Fig. 21 to 24 show the adapter 1 of the tool assembly and its components.
[0048] The third embodiment of the tool assembly provides for clamping the dental tool 100 in the through-hole 11 and thus securing it in the adapter 1 with a force fit. Regardless of the force fit, the dental tool 100 can be inserted into the through-hole 11 of the adapter 1 to varying degrees and clamped at any desired location, depending on the application.
[0049] For clamping the dental tool 1, the two-part adapter 1 provides the receiving body 2 and a clamping nut 30 screwed onto it as a fastening device. The receiving body 2 provides, in a known manner, the through-recess 11 extending from the first end face 6.1 to the second end face 6.2, which in this case has a circular cross-section. In the area of the first end face 6.1, a total of four clamping jaws 35 are formed on the receiving body 2, evenly distributed in the circumferential direction. An external thread 32 is provided adjacent to the clamping jaws 35. The clamping nut 30, which has an internal thread 31, is screwed from the first end face 6.1 via the clamping jaws 35 onto the external thread 32 of the receiving body 2. In this case, wedge surfaces 33 formed on the clamping nut 30 engage with correspondingly arranged and shaped wedge surfaces 34 provided on the clamping jaws 35.The wedge surfaces 33, 34 are pressed against each other in such a way that, as a result of the screwing movement, the clamping jaws 35 of the receiving body 2 are clamped against the shaft of the dental tool 100 and the dental tool 100 is firmly secured in the through-recess 11.
[0050] The Fig. 25 to 32 show the tool assembly in a fourth embodiment as well as the adapter 1 of this tool assembly and its components.
[0051] As usual, the receiving body 2 of the adapter 1 provides four clamping jaws 35 for clamping the dental tool 100 in the area of the first end face 6.1. The adapter 1 also has a clamping nut 30, which is placed onto the receiving body 2 from the second end face 6.2 and serves as a fastening device 3 of the adapter 1 for securing the dental tool 100 in the through-hole 11. The clamping nut 30 and the receiving body 2 of the adapter 1 are screwed together in a known manner. Furthermore, the receiving body 2 and the clamping nut 30 are provided with the known wedge surfaces 33, 34, which serve to secure the dental tool 100 in the through-hole 11. The through-hole 11, as usual, has a circular cross-section.
[0052] Because the clamping nut 30 is placed from the second end face 6.2 onto the receiving body 2 of the adapter 1, and the clamping jaws 35 provided in the first end face 6.1 provide a wedge surface 34 that widens toward the first end face 6.1, the clamping nut 30 cannot be removed via the first end face 6.1. The clamping nut 30 is therefore held captively on the receiving body 2.
[0053] The various embodiments of the adapter 1 illustrate the invention merely by way of example. Further embodiments of the invention are conceivable which are not shown in the drawings. For example, an adapter 1 can be provided which clamps the dental tool 100 and at the same time has a locking lug for positioning the dental tool 100 in the adapter 1. For example, an adapter 1 with clamping jaws for clamping the dental tool 100 can be provided, in which the through-recess 11 provides at least one flat partial inner surface for the positive transmission of the rotary movement from the adapter 1 to the dental tool 100. For example, the adapter 1 can provide two spring arms, which in particular lie opposite one another. A locking lug protruding in the direction of the inner recess 11 can be provided on each spring arm.The fact that the internal recess 11 in embodiments two to four is realized as a through-hole is also exemplary. Alternatively, the internal recess 11 can be formed as a blind hole and extend into the area of the locking groove 8 or through it.
