Description

[0001] The invention relates to a sheet metal with stamped structures for joining two wooden elements, as well as a composite of two wooden elements with the sheet metal arranged between them and a method for manufacturing the sheet metal.

[0002] It is known to join wooden beams with butt joints using a shear or tension / shear connection. For example, one end of a beam is attached to another beam at an angle of 0 to 90° and fastened there with screws or other pin-type fasteners. The screws can be driven at an angle through both or more beams, particularly at a 90° angle from the side opposite one of the beams.

[0003] It is also known to fasten wooden beams to a concrete wall or a metal plate, e.g., a timber connector. For this purpose, screws or pin-shaped fasteners are screwed through the wood and then into the concrete wall or the metal plate.

[0004] In wood-to-wood connections, high stiffness is achieved primarily through glued joints. This requires specific application environments. Other wood-to-wood connectors currently struggle to achieve the same stiffness values.

[0005] WO 2022 / 090281 A1 discloses a method for joining at least two wood panels for sound and / or thermal insulation. A metal plate or strip with teeth pointing towards the surface of the at least one wood panel is arranged in a direction substantially perpendicular to the surface of the metal plate or strip. An insulating element with teeth is attached to the second surface of the wood panel. A second metal plate or strip is attached to the insulating element. A third element of a wood panel with teeth is attached to the second surface of the second metal plate or strip. Screws are inserted through at least one element and at least one plate, the screws piercing the metal plate or strip as they are inserted.

[0006] US 2017 / 0073972 A1 discloses a composite assembly comprising a series of elongated layers joined lengthwise. At least two of the elongated layers each have an upper elongated section and a lower elongated section, joined end-to-end at an intermediate connection point by a connecting arrangement. The upper elongated section is made of wood, and the lower elongated section is made of a material other than wood. The lower elongated section may include a reinforcing bar.

[0007] All the solutions listed achieve only a lower degree of composite stiffness. Furthermore, a disadvantage of conventional timber joints is that the loads they can bear are too low, making higher load-bearing capacities or greater stiffness desirable.

[0008] The object of the present invention is to provide a sheet metal component for joining two wooden elements that achieves higher stiffness values and higher load-bearing capacities in the wood-to-wood connection. This object is achieved by the sheet metal component with the features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments are defined in the dependent claims.

[0009] According to a first aspect of the present invention, a sheet metal plate is provided for joining two wooden elements. The plate has punched structures, each comprising a hole with a diameter of less than 5 mm, preferably less than 3.5 mm, more preferably less than 2.5 mm, and four teeth distributed around the circumference of the hole, projecting from a main surface of the plate. The punched structures are provided on both main surfaces of the plate, and at least in the majority of the punched structures, preferably in all of them, all the teeth of a given punched structure project from the same main surface of the plate. The number of punched structures on one main surface is at least 90%, preferably 100%, of the number of punched structures on the other main surface.

[0010] In the context of the present invention, the term "main surface of the sheet" can refer to the largest surface of the sheet. The sheet essentially has the shape of a hexahedron, wherein two opposite faces of the hexahedron, which can be called the main surfaces, are significantly larger than the intervening lateral surfaces.

[0011] The sheet metal can be made of a metal, especially steel, for example an unalloyed steel or stainless steel, or aluminum.

[0012] At a joint, the two wooden elements abut each other, with the metal sheet positioned between them. Preferably, the two wooden elements lie in full contact with the metal sheet at the joint. However, it is possible for sections of the wooden elements to lie directly against each other. The resulting wooden joint between the two wooden elements and the metal sheet is held together by fasteners, in particular wood screws. The fasteners press the wooden elements against the metal sheet with a specific contact pressure. The teeth are pressed into the wood, interlocking with the wood fibers and creating a predominantly friction-fit connection between the metal sheet and the respective wooden elements. This friction-fit counteracts any displacement of the wooden elements relative to each other; that is, the initial displacement of the wooden elements relative to each other is hindered.A relative displacement of the wooden elements towards each other only occurs under a significantly increased shear force compared to a wood joint without sheet metal. The addition of the sheet metal effectively activates friction within the wood-to-wood connection, thereby increasing the overall stiffness of the joint.

[0013] The present invention provides a sheet metal connecting element which, compared to the prior art, has a reduced insertion force and yet can transmit high shear forces.

[0014] According to one embodiment, the sheet thickness is less than 0.5 mm. Such a small sheet thickness (<0.5 mm) allows for simplified packaging, transport and handling of the sheet, as well as application of the sheet without an air gap between the two wooden elements being joined.

[0015] According to one embodiment, each tooth has a baseline that corresponds to the intersection of the respective tooth with the corresponding main surface of the sheet metal, and at which the respective tooth projects from the corresponding main surface of the sheet metal. The angle of the baseline to an edge of the sheet metal, preferably a long edge of the sheet metal, is preferably between 30° and 60°, more preferably between 40° and 50°, and particularly preferably substantially 45°. According to one embodiment, in the case of a curved baseline, the angle is measured as a mean angle that is enclosed between the edge of the sheet metal and a line connecting the endpoints of the baseline. These tooth inclinations to the longitudinal side of the sheet metal result in each of the four teeth of such a rasp hole being subjected to the same load.

[0016] According to one embodiment, the total volume of all four teeth of a respective stamped structure is less than 2.5 mm². 3 . In this way, the teeth of the punched structures can effectively grip the wood fibers and ensure particularly good stiffness and load-bearing capacity of the composite.

[0017] According to one embodiment, the teeth are curved such that the tip of each tooth points away from the hole, and the tips of adjacent teeth do not form a minimum distance between them. This means, for example, that the tip of a tooth is curved or convex towards the side facing away from the hole, but does not protrude beyond the base of the tooth. The curvature or convexity of the teeth creates a particularly strong bond between the sheet metal and the wooden elements. The curvature of the teeth can be achieved by setting a specific punching depth into the sheet metal. The punch creates the stamped structures. Preferably, the punch has a square cross-section, and more preferably, a rectangular cross-section.

[0018] According to one embodiment, the teeth are curved, and the distance between two adjacent teeth is greater than the diameter of the hole, so that an effective density of the punched structures in the sheet metal is formed.

[0019] According to one embodiment, the stamped structures are arranged in a matrix with rows and columns on both main surfaces of the sheet metal, with adjacent rows being offset from each other by half a hole spacing in the longitudinal direction of the rows, and adjacent columns being offset from each other by half a hole spacing in the longitudinal direction of the columns. Preferably, the rows are oriented perpendicular to the columns.

[0020] According to one embodiment, the matrix comprises first rows with first stamped structures whose teeth project from one main surface of the sheet, and second rows with second stamped structures whose teeth project from the other main surface of the sheet, wherein the first and second rows are adjacent to each other and arranged alternately on both main surfaces of the sheet. The matrix-like arrangement of the teeth enables the most direct possible force transmission from one main surface of the sheet to the other main surface, as well as simplifying the manufacturing of the sheet. Preferably, the distances between adjacent rows and the distances between adjacent gaps are constant.

[0021] According to one embodiment, the orientation of the rows and the orientation of the columns are essentially parallel to a respective edge of the sheet metal.

[0022] According to one embodiment, the orientation of the rows and the orientation of the columns run at respective angles to a respective edge of the sheet metal, the angles being in a range between 30 and 60°, preferably substantially 45° each.

[0023] According to one embodiment, the stamped structures of a row are arranged alternately on both main surfaces of the sheet metal, and / or the stamped structures of a slot are arranged alternately on both main surfaces of the sheet metal. In the latter two embodiments, a direct force transmission between the teeth of adjacent slots is advantageously provided, so that, due to this manufacturing method, residual stresses can be minimized through a more uniform distribution and the manufacturing-related flatness of the sheet metal can be optimized.

[0024] According to one embodiment, the rows run parallel to a longer edge of the sheet metal and the columns run parallel to a shorter edge of the sheet metal.

[0025] According to one embodiment, the sheet metal is configured to be screwed through by a screw.

[0026] According to one embodiment, the tooth tips of opposing teeth in a respective stamped structure point in opposite directions. The curvature of the tooth tip towards the side facing away from the hole leads to a significant increase in the stiffness of the composite.

[0027] According to one embodiment, the height of the teeth is 1.5 to 5 times, preferably 2 to 4 times, more preferably 2.5 to 3.5 times, greater than the thickness of the sheet metal, thereby achieving a favorable balance between tooth height and sheet metal thickness.

[0028] According to one embodiment, adjacent teeth of the same stamped structure have a common overlapping area that extends vertically across the respective main surface of the sheet. According to another embodiment, the adjacent teeth of the same stamped structure exhibit a crown profile in a first side view. A crown profile can have a ring with several, at least three, attached teeth. According to another embodiment, the adjacent teeth of the same stamped structure exhibit a profile of two adjacent, partially overlapping triangles or trapezoids in a second side view.

[0029] According to one embodiment, the sheet metal is cold-worked, and the teeth are hardened so that they do not deform or only deform slightly.

[0030] According to one embodiment, the number of punched structures per cm is... 2between 2 and 15, preferably between 3 and 10, more preferably between 5 and 8.

[0031] According to a second aspect of the present invention, a composite of two wooden elements with the sheet metal arranged between them is provided. The sheet metal can be used as an insert in wood-to-wood connections to increase stiffness, for example in ribbed ceilings.

[0032] According to a third aspect of the present invention, a method for producing a sheet for joining two wooden elements is provided. The method includes a step for punching the sheet with a die, producing punched structures, each having a hole with a diameter of less than 5 mm, preferably less than 3.5 mm, more preferably less than 2.5 mm, and four teeth distributed around a circumference of the hole, projecting from a main surface of the sheet. The punched structures are provided on both main surfaces of the sheet, and at least in the majority of the punched structures, preferably in all of them, all the teeth of a given punched structure project from the same main surface of the sheet. The number of punched structures on one main surface is at least 90%, preferably 100%, of the number of punched structures on the other main surface.

[0033] According to one embodiment of the method, the punch has a square or rectangular profile. The edge length of the punch is preferably between 1 and 2.5 mm, more preferably between 1.2 and 1.6 mm.

[0034] According to one embodiment of the method, a defined curvature of the teeth is set by using a specific punch depth of the punch.

Fig. Figure 7 shows a side view and a top view of a sheet metal part according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0036] Identical or similar components in different figures are provided with the same reference numerals.

[0037] Fig. Figure 1 shows a side view and a top view of a sheet metal plate 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention; Fig. Figure 2 shows an enlarged section of the side view of the Fig. 1; and Fig. Figure 3 shows an enlarged section of the side view and the top view of the Fig. 1. The sheet metal 1 is used to connect two wooden elements 20, 30 (see Fig. 6), wherein the sheet 1 has punched structures 2, each having a hole 3 with a diameter of less than 5 mm, preferably less than 3.5 mm, more preferably less than 2.5 mm, and four teeth 4 distributed around a circumference of the hole 3 projecting from a main surface 5, 6 of the sheet 1. The punched structures 2 are provided on both main surfaces 5, 6 of the sheet 1. A number of punched structures 2 per cm 2The number of punched structures 2 can be between 2 and 15, preferably between 3 and 10, and more preferably between 5 and 8. For example, the sheet 1 can have external dimensions of 50 × 1000 mm. The number of punched structures 2 can then be between 1300 and 6600, preferably between 2600 and 5300, and more preferably between 4000 and 4600. At least in the majority of the punched structures 2, and preferably in all of them, all teeth 4 of each punched structure 2 protrude from the same main surface 5, 6 of the sheet 1. The number of punched structures 2 on one main surface 5 is at least 90%, and preferably 100%, of the number of punched structures 2 on the other main surface 6. The sheet thickness is less than 0.5 mm. The sheet 1 is configured to be screwed through by a screw. Preferably the sheet metal 1 is cold-worked, and the teeth 4 are hardened.

[0038] According to the Fig. 1. Each tooth 4 has a baseline 7 that corresponds to the intersection of the respective tooth 4 with the corresponding main surface 5, 6 of the sheet 1, and at which the respective tooth 4 projects from the corresponding main surface 5, 6 of the sheet 1. The angle of the baseline 7 to an edge 8 of the sheet 1, preferably a long edge of the sheet 1, is preferably between 30° and 60°, more preferably between 40° and 50°, and particularly preferably substantially 45°. In the exemplary embodiment of the Fig. 1. The baseline 7 is essentially straight. In the case of a curved baseline 7, the angle can be measured as a mean angle enclosed between the edge 8 of the sheet and a line connecting the endpoints of the curved baseline 7.

[0039] The total volume of all four teeth 4 of a respective stamped structure 2 is less than 2.5 mm². 3 .

[0040] According to the Fig. 2. The teeth 4 are curved such that a tooth tip 9 of each tooth 4 points away from the hole 3, and the tooth tips 9 of adjacent teeth 4 do not form a minimum distance between the adjacent teeth 4. Instead, the minimum distance between the adjacent teeth 4 can be measured between their respective baselines 7. The tooth tip 9 of a tooth 4 is curved towards the side facing away from the hole but does not project beyond the baseline 7 or beyond a tooth root. Even though the teeth 4 are curved, a distance between two adjacent teeth 4 can be greater than the diameter of the hole 3.

[0041] The curvature of the teeth 4 can be achieved by setting a specific punching depth of a punch into the sheet metal 1. The punch creates the stamped structures 2. Preferably, the punch has a square cross-section, more preferably a rectangular profile. The punch can, for example, have an edge length of 1.4 mm. The sheet metal 1 can, for example, be made of an unalloyed metal and have a thickness of 0.3 mm.

[0042] According to the Fig. 1 The stamped structures 2 are each arranged in a matrix with rows 10 and columns 11 on both main surfaces 5, 6 of the sheet 1, wherein adjacent rows 10 are shifted from each other longitudinally by half a hole spacing, and wherein adjacent columns 11 are shifted from each other longitudinally by half a hole spacing. The rows 10 are oriented perpendicular to the columns 11.

[0043] The orientation of the rows 10 and the orientation of the columns 11 are essentially parallel to a respective edge 8 of the sheet 1. In the exemplary embodiment of the Fig. In this embodiment, edge 8 is a longer edge of sheet 1, and edge 18 is a shorter edge of sheet 1. The rows 10 run parallel to the longer edge 8, and the columns 11 run parallel to the shorter edge 18. In an alternative embodiment, the rows 10 can run parallel to the longer edge 8, and the columns 11 can run parallel to the shorter edge 18. In this alternative embodiment, the manufacturing costs of sheet 1 are lower.

[0044] The matrix has first rows 10 with first punched structures 2, whose teeth 4 protrude from one main surface 5 of the sheet 1, and second rows 10 with second punched structures 2, whose teeth 4 protrude from the other main surface 6 of the sheet 1, wherein the first rows 10 and the second rows 10 are adjacent to each other and alternately arranged on both main surfaces 5, 6 of the sheet 1.

[0045] The distances between adjacent rows 10 and the distances between adjacent columns 11 are each constant.

[0046] Thus, the holes 3 of a first row 10 on the first main surface 5, which is adjacent to a second row 10 on the second main surface 6, are located substantially midway between the holes 3 of the second row 10. Simultaneously, the holes 3 of a first column 11 on the first main surface 5, which is adjacent to a second column 11 on the second main surface 6, are located substantially midway between the holes 3 of the second column 11.

[0047] Fig. Figure 4 shows a side view of a stamped structure 2 from a direction A of the Fig. 3; and Fig. Figure 5 shows a side view of the stamped structure 2 from direction B. Fig. 3. Direction B is substantially perpendicular to an edge 8 of the sheet 1, while direction A is substantially at an angle of 45° to the edge 8 of the sheet 1. Preferably, the edge 8 of the sheet 1 is a long edge of the sheet. Tooth tips 9 of opposing teeth 4 of a respective stamped structure 2 point in opposite directions.

[0048] The height of the teeth 4 is 1.5 to 5 times, preferably 2 to 4 times, more preferably 2.5 to 3.5 times, greater than the thickness of the sheet 1.

[0049] Adjacent teeth 4 of the same stamped structure 2 have a common overlap area that extends vertically over the respective main surface 5, 6 of the sheet 1.

[0050] According to the Fig. Figure 4 shows the adjacent teeth 4 of the same stamped structure 2 in a first side view A, a crown profile. The crown profile can have a ring with several, at least three, points arranged on it. According to the Fig. Figure 5 shows the adjacent teeth 4 of the same stamped structure 2 in a second side view B, a profile of two adjacent, partially overlapping triangles. Trapezoids can also be used instead of triangles.

[0051] Fig. Figure 6 shows an application example of a sheet 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention. The sheet 1 is arranged between two wooden elements 20, 30 to be joined. The reference numeral F denotes a shear force that the composite of the wooden elements 20, 30 with the sheet 1 arranged between them can withstand. Experimental investigations have shown that the sheet 1 according to the invention provides improved stiffness and increased load-bearing capacity of the composite (i.e., via increased shear force F, in which essentially no relative movement occurs between the wooden elements 20, 30) compared to prior art solutions. In particular, the experimental investigations yielded displacement moduli kser of the composite consisting of the two wooden elements 20, 30 and the sheet 1 arranged between them of more than 12 N / mm². 2The displacement modulus is defined as force / displacement, i.e., N / mm. In the case of sheet 1, this quantity is normalized to the area of sheet 1: Force / Displacement * 1 / Area --> N / mm × 1 / mm 2 = N / mm 3 .

[0052] The sheet 1 can be produced by a process comprising a step of punching the sheet 1 with a die such that the punched structures 2 are formed, each having a hole 3 with a diameter of less than 5 mm, preferably less than 3.5 mm, more preferably less than 2.5 mm, and four teeth 4 distributed around the circumference of the hole 3 projecting from the main surface 5, 6 of the sheet 1. The punched structures 2 are provided on both main surfaces 5, 6 of the sheet 1, and at least in the majority of the punched structures 2, preferably in all of the punched structures 2, all teeth 4 of a respective punched structure 2 project from the same main surface 5, 6 of the sheet 1. The number of punched structures 2 on one main surface 5 is at least 90%, preferably 100%, of the number of punched structures 2 on the other main surface 6.

[0053] The punch can have a square or rectangular profile, preferably with an edge length between 1 and 2.5 mm, and more preferably between 1.2 and 1.6 mm. The defined curvature of the teeth 4 can be adjusted by using a specific punch depth (penetration depth of the punch into the sheet metal 1).

[0054] In the Fig. Figure 4 clearly shows the curvature of the teeth 4. This curvature can create an undercut, so that the teeth 4 not only exert the shear force F on the wooden elements 20, 30, but also a normal force component, i.e., a force component that acts perpendicular to the main surfaces 5, 6 of the sheet 1. This ensures a certain degree of adhesion of the sheet 1 to the main surfaces 5, 6 of the sheet 1, even without a screw.

[0055] Fig. Figure 7 shows a side view and a top view of a sheet metal plate 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention. While in the embodiment of the Fig. 1. In the exemplary embodiment of the rows 10 and columns 11, the orientation of the rows 10 and columns 11 is essentially parallel to a respective edge 8 of the sheet 1. Fig.7. The rows 10 and the columns 11 are oriented at respective angles α, β to a respective edge 8, 18 of the sheet 1, wherein the angles are in a range between 30° and 60°, preferably substantially 45° each. Furthermore, the stamped structures 2 of a row 10 are arranged alternately on both main surfaces 5, 6 of the sheet 1, and the stamped structures 2 of a column 11 are arranged alternately on both main surfaces 5, 6 of the sheet 1. Advantageously, this achieves a direct force transmission between the teeth 4 of the stamped structures 2 of adjacent columns 11, so that, due to this manufacturing method, residual stresses in the sheet 1 can be minimized by a more uniform distribution of the stamped structures 2 and the manufacturing-related flatness of the sheet 1 can be optimized.
