Abstract
A metal-air secondary battery is provided that is capable of suppressing a drop in discharge potential and a rise in overvoltage, despite containing a discharge air electrode catalyst that is a carbon-based catalyst. The metal-air secondary battery comprises a comb-shaped charging air electrode layer containing a charging air electrode catalyst, an electrically conductive material, and a binder; a comb-shaped discharging air electrode layer containing a discharge air electrode catalyst that is a carbon-based catalyst and a binder, spaced apart from and interlocked with the comb-shaped charging air electrode layer in the same plane; and a metal negative electrode layer arranged opposite an air electrode composite layer, which is composed of the charging air electrode layer and the discharging air electrode layer in the same plane.an electrolyte solution impregnated into the metal negative electrode layer, and a separator arranged between the air electrode composite layer and the metal negative electrode layer, such that it is in contact with the air electrode composite layer and isolates the air electrode composite layer from the metal negative electrode layer in a manner that allows hydroxide ions to be conducted between the air electrode composite layer and the metal negative electrode layer.
