Description
Technical field of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates to a method for trying on a virtual pair of glasses and a method for measuring parameters for preparing an ophthalmic lens for mounting in a real pair of glasses similar to the virtual pair of glasses being tried on. State of the art
[0002] After the prescription of corrective lenses by the ophthalmologist, the patient chooses a frame in which the lenses will be mounted.
[0003] Usually, the choice of frames is made by an optician who will then measure various parameters specific to the frame, the patient's face and their attitude in near and / or distance vision. These parameters include the distance from the lens to the eye, the curve angle of the frame, the inclination angle of the frame, the pupillary distances and the pupillary heights. Measuring these parameters makes it possible to prepare ophthalmic lenses that are perfectly adapted to the frame and the patients.
[0004] Recently, devices have been developed to automatically calculate ophthalmic parameters from images of the user's face wearing the frame. These devices take the form of fixed columns or portable tablets comprising at least one camera and a computer capable of processing the image captured by the camera to calculate the desired parameters. Often, the frame being tried on is temporarily associated with a predefined size reference to improve the accuracy of the measurement.
[0005] For several years, the actual fitting of frames at the optician's has been competing with virtual frame fitting methods in stores or at home. Typically, these fitting methods include a camera that captures the user's image in real time and transmits it, associated with a virtual frame, to a display screen. These methods are associated with a computer program that is capable of extracting data from the user's image, such as the position of the user's face, the position of the user's eyes and calculating a virtual scene comprising the user's face on which is superimposed a pair of 3D glasses chosen by the user from a database. Standard methods for trying on virtual glasses are described in US 2019 / 033624 A1, WO 2019 / 007939 A1, US 2020 / 219326 A1 and US 2021 / 088811 A1.US 2019 / 033624 A1 describes, in particular, a method for trying on virtual glasses comprising the steps of: placing a real pair of glasses on a user's face; mapping the user's face by 3D mapping means and measuring the ophthalmological parameters of said user from the 3D model of the user's face constructed in the preceding step.
[0006] This virtual fitting is completely remote because it can be implemented on the user's smartphone or computer. The number of frames available is no longer limited by the size of the optician's displays but by the capacity of the servers. The customer can therefore choose from thousands of frames at any time of the day or night.
[0007] However, once the virtual frame has been chosen, it is still necessary to measure the user's ophthalmic parameters, which means the customer will have to return to the optician where they will have to wear a real pair of glasses equivalent to the virtual pair of glasses.
[0008] Devices that avoid this visit to the optician have already been proposed. For example, consideration has been given to directly calculating ophthalmic parameters based on the 3D scene created during the virtual fitting. However, the position of the virtual glasses in the 3D scene is coarse and does not allow for precise calculations.
[0009] For the same frame, each wearer will position their glasses differently depending on the position of their ears, the shape of their nose and the height of their cheekbones. It is therefore impossible to use this scene as is for calculating ophthalmic parameters.
[0010] The present invention proposes to solve this problem by providing a method which allows the precise calculation of the ophthalmic parameters of a frame wearer simultaneously with the virtual fitting of these frames. The method according to the invention also makes it possible to improve the accuracy of the position of the virtual frame during the fitting. Summary of the invention
[0011] The present invention relates to a method for trying on virtual glasses comprising the steps of: placing a real pair of glasses on a user's face, measuring the position of said real pair of glasses relative to said user's face by means of a measuring device, mapping the user's face by 3D mapping means, constructing a 3D model of the user's face and said virtual pair of glasses taking into account the position measured in step
[200] , and measuring the ophthalmological parameters of said user from the 3D model of the user's face constructed in step
[400] . The methods of the prior art consist of creating a 3D model in which the virtual glasses are arranged on the surface of the user's face in an arbitrary manner. In the prior art, the lower part of the bridge of the frame is systematically placed on the highest part of the nasal bridge with the rear face of said bridge in contact with the user's forehead. This position does not necessarily correspond to the position usually used by the user and does not allow ophthalmic parameters to be calculated precisely.
[0012] On the contrary, in the method according to the invention, the 3D model of the user's face and of said virtual pair of glasses is created taking into account how the user normally wears a real pair of glasses. Consequently, whatever the virtual pair of glasses, the latter will be placed in the 3D model exactly as the user would wear the equivalent real pair of glasses. Thus, it is possible to accurately calculate the ophthalmic parameters directly from the 3D model.
[0013] By the expression "taking into account the position measured in step
[200] " is meant to indicate that in the 3D model constructed in step
[400] the position of the virtual pair of glasses, relative to the representation of the user's face, reproduces in whole or in part that measured in step
[200] . Preferably, in the 3D model constructed in step
[400] the position of the virtual pair of glasses, relative to the representation of the user's face, reproduces at every point that measured in step
[200] .
[0014] According to a preferred embodiment, the mapping of the user's face of step
[300] is performed after removing said actual pair of glasses from the user's face.
[0015] According to a preferred embodiment, the method according to the invention further comprises the steps of: capturing the image of the user's face by an image capturing means, identifying on the image taken at position
[310] the position of the pupils of said user, integrating the position of the pupils, determined in step
[320] into the 3D model established in step
[400] .
[0016] In the context of the present invention, the position of the pupils may be replaced by the position of the corneal reflections. Thus, the terms "position of the pupils" and "position of the corneal reflections" may be used interchangeably.
[0017] According to a preferred embodiment, the method according to the invention further comprises the step
[210] of saving said position of said real pair of glasses relative to the face of said user, associated with a specific identifier of said user.
[0018] According to a preferred embodiment, the method according to the invention comprises in the step consisting of
[600] displaying, on a viewing means, a pair of virtual glasses on the image of the face of said user captured in step
[310] , characterized in that said pair of virtual glasses is positioned so as to reproduce the position measured in step
[200] .
[0019] In the context of this latter embodiment, step
[200] can be carried out by the user or by a third person who will compare the location of the virtual pair of glasses displayed in step
[600] with the position of the real pair of glasses that the user is wearing, and provide information to make said real pair of glasses and said virtual pair of glasses coincide on said viewing means.
[0020] According to a preferred embodiment, the ophthalmological parameters measured in step
[340] are chosen from the group consisting of the pupillary heights, the pantoscopic angle, the horizontality of the frame, the horizontality of the lenses relative to said frame, the pupillary distances in distance vision and / or in near vision, the curve of said frame and the position of the centering marks on each of the lenses.
[0021] According to a preferred embodiment, measuring the position of said real pair of glasses relative to the face of said user comprises determining the point of contact between said real pair of glasses and the bridge of the nose of said user.
[0022] According to a preferred embodiment, the ophthalmological parameters measured in step
[340] are chosen from the group consisting of the pupillary heights, the pantoscopic angle, the horizontality of the frame, the horizontality of the lenses relative to said frame, the pupillary distances in distance vision and / or in near vision, the lens-eye distance, the curve of said frame, the head-eye coefficient and the position of the centering marks on each of the lenses.
[0023] According to a preferred embodiment, measuring the position of said actual pair of glasses relative to the face of said user comprises determining the point(s) of contact between said actual pair of glasses and the bridge of the nose of said user.
[0024] According to an even more preferred embodiment, measuring the position of said actual pair of glasses on the face of said user further comprises determining the point(s) of contact between said actual pair of glasses and each of the ears of said user.

[0028] According to a preferred embodiment, said image capturing means used in step
[310] is a video sensor.
[0029] According to a preferred embodiment, said display means used in step
[600] is a video screen.
[0030] According to a preferred embodiment, said image capture means and said viewing means are included in a tablet or a smartphone.
[0031] According to a preferred embodiment, said measuring device, said image capture means and said display means are included in a tablet.
[0032] The present invention also relates to a device comprising an image capture sensor, a display means, a measuring device and a calculation means implementing a computer program implementing a method according to the invention.
[0033] The steps of the method according to the invention may be implemented in a different order than that presented above. For example, step
[300] may be carried out prior to step
[100] or step
[200] . Description of the embodiments
[0034] In the context of the present invention, step
[100] consists of placing a real pair of glasses on the face of a user.
[0035] The term "real pair of glasses" refers to any frame composed of a front and two arms. Said front also includes a bridge intended to rest on the user's nose. The presence of lenses on said front is not mandatory. The term "real" is used in contrast to the term "virtual". Thus, said real pair of glasses is made of physical materials and can be touched.
[0036] Said actual pair of glasses is not necessarily a pair of glasses intended to receive corrective lenses. It may be, for example, a structure constructed solely for use in the context of the method according to the invention.
[0037] According to one embodiment, said actual pair of glasses is chosen from the group consisting of all commercially available frames.
[0038] According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, said actual pair of glasses is a glasses frame on the surface of which are arranged, temporarily or permanently, markers of predefined sizes and positions. The presence of these markers makes it easier to detect the frame and its position. These markers may be, for example, geometric shapes of a different color from those of the rest of the frame.
[0039] In the context of the present invention, the term "position of said real pair of glasses relative to the face of said user" is intended to designate at least the location, on the user's nose, of the point(s) of contact between the bridge of said real pair of glasses and the user's nose. Preferably, said position further comprises the location, on the user's ears, of the point(s) of contact between the arms of said real pair of glasses and the user's nose. Even more preferably, said position further comprises the location, on the arms of the real pair of glasses, of the point(s) of contact between the arms of said real pair of glasses and the user's ears.
[0040] Said position is defined in space relative to a reference frame. The nature of said reference frame is of no importance in the context of the present invention. For example, a reference frame ( O, i , j, k) can be defined using four fixed points on the user's face. Advantageously, these fixed points are chosen from the group consisting of the inner corner of the left eye, the inner corner of the right eye, the outer corner of the left eye, the outer corner of the right eye, the tip of the nose and the tip of the user's chin.
[0041] Said “measuring device” may be chosen from among the numerous devices accessible to those skilled in the art. For example, said measuring device may be a set of manual measurement means such as rulers, compasses and / or calipers.
[0042] In the case where the method according to the invention comprises step
[600] consisting of displaying, on a display means, a virtual pair of glasses on the image of the face of said user captured in step
[310] , said measuring device may comprise an interface on which the user or a third person will be able to enter information intended to make said real pair of glasses and said virtual pair of glasses coincide on said display means.
[0043] Said interface may in particular be a keyboard, a joystick, a mouse or a touch screen. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said interface is a touch screen which serves as a display means in step
[600] .
[0044] In the context of this embodiment, a first 3D model of the user's face and said arbitrarily positioned pair of virtual glasses is produced from the 3D mapping obtained in step
[300] . By arbitrarily, it is meant that said pair of virtual glasses can be arranged indifferently at any location of the first 3D model. However, advantageously, said pair of virtual glasses is arranged so that at least the bridge of said pair of virtual glasses is in contact with the bridge of the nose of the user's face.
[0045] Said virtual pair of glasses is then displayed, on said viewing means, on the image of the face of said user captured in step
[310] .
[0046] Thus, the user or a third party will be able to compare the location of the displayed pair of virtual glasses with that of the real pair of glasses that the user is wearing, and enter correction information via said interface (e.g. upwards, downwards, front-to-back rotation, left-right rotation). Said correction information is used to correct the position of the virtual pair of glasses in said 3D model. When the display of the real pair of glasses and that of the virtual pair of glasses coincides perfectly, it can be assumed that the position of the virtual pair of glasses in the 3D model corresponds to the position of said real pair of glasses relative to the face of said user as sought in step
[200] .
[0047] Advantageously, said measuring device used in step
[200] is a means capable of creating a 3D map of the user's face and of the actual pair of glasses worn. The 3D map can be obtained by a set of several equipment components working together to scan the environment continuously and process the signal obtained to establish said 3D map.
[0048] In step
[200] , the term "user's face" refers to at least a portion of the front face of the user's skull comprising at least the eyes, the bridge of the nose and the junction point between the upper part of the ear and the rest of the skull. Advantageously, the user's face mapped in step
[200] comprises at least the area of the face delimited by the top of the forehead, the chin and the back of the ears of the user.
[0049] Said means capable of creating a 3D map of the user's face may be any type of 3D scanner suitable for scanning a part of an individual's body. For example, the 3D scanner may be a handheld 3D scanner. In some embodiments, the 3D scanner uses at least two 2D images to create the 3D scan. For example, the 3D scanner may include multiple cameras that capture multiple 2D images of the patient's face. The 3D scanner then overlays and stitches the 2D images. Each point on the 2D images is mathematically triangulated to reconstruct the scale and location in space to create the 3D scan. The greater the number of 2D images overlaid, the greater the resolution and reliability of the resulting 3D scan.
[0050] In other embodiments, the 3D scanner may include a single camera as well as additional equipment that allows it to successfully capture multiple images of the user's face that can be used to create a 3D image of the user's face. For example, the 3D scanner may include a camera as well as mirrors arranged such that the camera can capture multiple images of the user's face. In another example, the 3D scanner may include a single camera as well as a mechanism for moving the camera to a different location so that the camera can capture multiple images of the user's face from different locations. In yet another example, the 3D scanner may include a single camera as well as an interactive interface that instructs the user, by means of indicators or other mechanisms, how to move the camera to capture multiple images.
[0051] In another embodiment, the 3D scanner may include a single camera as well as a structured light projector. The structured light projector may project a grid or pattern onto the user's face which may be collected by the camera and decoded to provide absolute dimensional distances of the captured object to create a 3D scan of the user's face.
[0052] In this latter embodiment, said means capable of creating a 3D map used in step
[200] may comprise a first projection means capable of projecting a pattern of optical radiation onto the user's face. According to a preferred embodiment, the optical radiation used for this purpose is typically in the infrared (IR) range.
[0053] In order to capture an image of the patient with the optical radiation pattern, said means capable of creating a 3D map used in step
[200] further comprises a first camera. Preferably, the optical axis of the first projection means is parallel to the optical axis of said first camera. In addition, said first camera comprises a sensor capable of recording the optical radiation emitted by said first projection means.
[0054] In order to process the image recorded by said first camera, said means capable of creating a 3D map used in step
[200] further comprises a processing device capable of processing the image of the pattern in order to generate a 3D map.
[0055] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said measuring device comprises a means capable of measuring the distance chosen from the group consisting of ultrasonic sensors, time-of-flight cameras, truedepth cameras and LIDARs.
[0056] According to an even more preferred embodiment of the invention, said means capable of measuring the distance is associated with a calculation means capable of constructing a depth map of the user's face and of the real pair of glasses.
[0057] In addition, the means capable of creating a 3D map is advantageously associated with a processing device capable of extracting from said 3D map the location, on the user's nose, of the point(s) of contact between the bridge of said real pair of glasses and the user's nose and advantageously the location, on the user's ears, of the point(s) of contact between the arms of said real pair of glasses and the user's nose and even more advantageously the location, on the arms of the real pair of glasses, of the point(s) of contact between the arms of said real pair of glasses and the user's nose.
[0058] According to a preferred embodiment, the processing device is capable of identifying parts of the patient's face such as the inner corner of the eyes, the center of the pupils, the middle of the forehead, and / or the middle of the chin and determining their location in 3D.
[0059] This set of equipment capable of producing 3D mapping is provided, for example, in a smartphone or a tablet. In this regard, the method according to the invention is implemented by a smartphone or a tablet. In this embodiment, the method according to the invention is more particularly implemented by software dedicated to a smartphone or a tablet.
[0060] According to a preferred embodiment, the method according to the invention further comprises the step
[210] of saving said position associated with a specific identifier of said user, in a database.
[0061] By "specific identifier" is meant any single or multiple means enabling a user to be identified. These include, in particular, civil status, social security number, passport number, address, date of birth, customer number, anthropometric data and combinations thereof. According to a preferred embodiment, said specific identifier is anthropometric data of the user and even more preferably anthropometric data obtained from 3D mapping of his face. Any other specific identifier can be created to be used in the context of the method according to the invention.
[0062] By "backup" is meant the conservation of said information on any storage medium. Suitable storage media are, for example, physical (e.g. hard disk) or virtual (e.g. cloud) electronic and electromagnetic information media. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said storage medium is accessible remotely via the internet network.
[0063] Said specific identifier is associated with said position in such a way that reading the storage medium makes it possible to find the position of said actual pair of glasses relative to the face of a specific user.
[0064] Step
[300] of mapping the user's face, after removing said actual pair of glasses, by 3D mapping means, may be performed by means identical to or different from said measuring device used in step
[200] .
[0065] According to a preferred embodiment, the method according to the invention further comprises the step
[310] of capturing the image of the user's face, after removing said real pair of glasses, by an image capturing means.
[0066] By "image capture means" is preferably meant a photographic sensor (e.g. CCD, CMOS). Said sensor is associated with means for processing the signal from said sensor capable of creating a digital image. When the measuring device used in step
[200] comprises an image capture means, the latter may be identical to or different from said image capture means used in step
[310] .
[0067] The capture of the user's facial image is done punctually or continuously.
[0068] Said image capture means is provided, for example, in a smartphone or a tablet. In this regard, the method according to the invention is implemented by a smartphone or a tablet. In this embodiment, the method according to the invention is more particularly implemented by software dedicated to a smartphone or a tablet.
[0069] According to a preferred embodiment, the method according to the invention further comprises step
[320] consisting of identifying on the image of the user's face taken in step
[310] the position of the pupils of said user. Different algorithms can be implemented to carry out this step. These algorithms can implement successive steps consisting of detecting the user's face, then detecting the user's eyes in the previously identified area and finally detecting the user's pupils. Among these algorithms, we can cite those described by Ciesla et al. (Ciesla, M., & Koziol, P. (2012). Eye Pupil Location Using Webcam. ArXiv, abs / 1202.6517.).
[0070] In step
[340] , the position of the pupils, determined in step
[320] is integrated into the 3D model established in step
[400] .
[0071] By "integrated" is meant that said 2D position of the pupils measured from the image captured in step
[310] is transformed into a 3D position in the reference frame of the 3D mapping established in step
[300] and then integrated into the 3D model. This operation can be carried out simply by taking into account the 3D positions of the corners of the eyes and the top of the cornea.
[0072] According to a preferred embodiment, the method according to the invention further comprises the step
[400] of constructing a 3D model of the user's face and of said virtual pair of glasses.
[0073] The construction of a 3D model of the user's face and of said virtual pair of glasses carried out in step
[400] can be carried out by any 3D modeling system known to those skilled in the art. This construction will lead to obtaining a 3D scene (see for example https: / / fr.wikipedia.org / wiki / Scéne_3D) comprising at least the face of the user's face and the chosen virtual pair of glasses.
[0074] The software allowing the construction of a 3D model is well known to those skilled in the art, among which we can notably cite Ogre3D, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, MotionBuilder, Autodesk Softimage, Bryce 3D, Carrara, Cinema 4D, Dynamation, Houdini, LightWave 3D, MASSIVE, Messiah, Moviestorm, Softimage 3D, Strata 3D, Swift 3D.
[0075] In the context of the present invention, said construction of a 3D model may not include the implementation of a rendering engine. Indeed, the primary purpose of this modeling is the calculation of the relative positions of the elements of said pair of virtual glasses with respect to the user's face. It is therefore not necessary to calculate the rendering of this scene and to display it (except in the case where the method according to the invention further comprises step
[600] ).
[0076] For the purposes of the present invention, the term "said virtual pair of glasses" refers to a pair of glasses which is displayed in the virtual environment but is not part of the physical world.
[0077] Many pairs of virtual glasses are commercially available. There are many databases containing several thousand virtual glasses from which the user can choose prior to step
[400] .
[0078] In practice, a virtual pair of glasses is defined by a collection of points in 3D space, connected by various geometric entities such as triangles, lines, curved surfaces, etc. This collection of points can be supplemented by information relating to the color, texture and reflectance of the different surfaces of said virtual pair of glasses. Being a collection of data (points and other information), the virtual pairs of glasses can be created manually, algorithmically or by scanning. This set of information can be gathered in one or more computer files. Advantageously, said files are stored on one or more storage media. Preferably, said storage media is accessible remotely via the Internet.
[0079] When the method according to the invention does not include step
[600] said virtual pair of glasses may not include textures, since only the 3D geometric shape of said virtual pair of glasses is necessary for calculating the ophthalmic parameters.
[0080] Step
[500] consists of measuring the ophthalmological parameters of the user from the 3D model of the user's face constructed in step
[400] . Among the ophthalmological parameters measured in step
[500] we can cite the pupillary heights, the pantoscopic angle, the horizontality of the frame, the horizontality of the lenses relative to said frame, the pupillary distances in distance vision and / or in near vision, the lens-eye distance, the curve of said frame, the head-eye coefficient, the lens-eye distance and the position of the centering marks on each of the lenses.
[0081] For example, from the 3D model calculated in step
[400] it is easy to calculate the pupil heights from the position of the user's pupil relative to that of the rim of the frame framing the lens.
[0082] Similarly, the lens-eye distance can be calculated from the position, in the 3D model, of the top of the cornea and the lenses (or their position deduced from the position of the rim).
[0083] The pantoscopic angle can be calculated by measuring the angle of the face of the virtual pair of glasses relative to the vertical plane.
[0084] All of these calculations can be done with the help of an operator who can designate, via a computer interface, the different points (corneal summit, lens position, etc.) necessary for calculating the ophthalmic parameters. The calculation can be advantageously automated from the points identified by the operator.
[0085] Alternatively, the entire step
[500] is carried out automatically by an information processing means programmed so as to identify within said 3D model the points necessary for calculating the ophthalmic parameters and for calculating the latter.
[0086] Step
[600] consisting of displaying, on a viewing means, a pair of virtual glasses on the image of the face of said user captured in step
[310] , characterized in that said pair of virtual glasses is positioned so as to reproduce the position measured in step
[200] .
[0087] In the context of the present invention, the term “display means” is intended to refer to any means allowing the display of images and more particularly digital images.
[0088] The creation of a digital image comprising a pair of virtual glasses on the image of the face of said user from said 3D model created in step
[400] is a classic step of 3D computer graphics. Preferably, step
[500] implements a 3D rendering engine. A 3D rendering engine can be classic software or algorithms integrated into special graphics cards which calculate one or more 3D images by rendering not only the 3D projection, the textures and the lighting effects.
[0089] The 3D rendering engine analyzes the elements of a digitized image (colors, intensity and type of light, shadows and their combinations, etc.), an image supposed to be seen by a virtual "camera" whose xyz coordinates determine the viewing angle and the position of the objects.
[0090] Among the 3D rendering engines that can be used in the context of the present invention, we can notably cite Arnold, Aqsis, Arion Render, Artlantis, Atomontage1, Blender, Brazil r / s, BusyRay, Cycles, Enscape, FinalRender, Fryrender, Guerilla Render2, Indigo, Iray, Kerkythea, KeyShot, Kray, Lightscape, LightWorks, Lumiscaphe, LuxRender, Maxwell Render, Mental Ray, Mitsuba3, Nova, Octane4, POV-Ray, RenderMan, Redsdk, Redway3d, Sunflow, Turtle, V-Ray, VIRTUALIGHT and YafaRay.
[0091] Numerous methods for implementing step
[600] consisting of displaying, on a viewing means, a pair of virtual glasses on the image of the face of said user captured in step
[310] are described in the prior art. Among these, we can notably cite the methods described in documents WO013207 and EP2526510 or commercial software such as SmartMirror ®<.
[0092] The entire method according to the invention can be implemented by software implemented in a smartphone, a tablet or a computer.
[0093] Thus, the present invention also relates to a smartphone, a tablet or a computer which is remarkable in that it implements a method according to the invention.
