Description

[0001] The invention relates to a mattress core according to the preamble of claim 1.

[0002] A generic mattress core is well known in practice. The typically cuboid-shaped mattress core consists of two superimposed layers of foam materials of varying firmness. When a mattress with such a mattress core is flipped, i.e., the top and bottom layers are swapped, the other layer of the correspondingly different material forms the top of the mattress. This allows the same mattress to have a softer or firmer sleeping experience simply by changing its orientation.

[0003] Because the body of a person lying on the mattress can sink to different depths into the mattress surface, namely due to the different firmness of the respective selected upper layer of the mattress core, a warmer sleeping climate can be offered to the body, which sinks deeper, on the one hand, by the softer layer, or on the other hand by the comparatively firmer upper layer, into which the body sinks less deeply, so that the same, structurally unchanged mattress can be adapted to different sleeping habits of different people simply by its different alignment, or can be adapted to different temperature levels in the bedroom depending on the season.

[0004] The invention is based on the object of improving a generic mattress core in such a way that it enables a particularly versatile adaptation of a multi-layer mattress equipped therewith in a very economical manner. Furthermore, the invention is based on the object of providing a correspondingly versatile mattress.

[0005] This object is achieved by a mattress core having the features of claim 1 and by a mattress according to claim 10. Advantageous embodiments are described in the subclaims.

[0006] A first aspect of the invention relates to a mattress core which is delimited by the following sides: an upper side and a lower side, two mutually opposite end sides, of which one end side forms a head end of the mattress core and the other end side forms a foot end of the mattress core, as well as two mutually opposite longitudinal sides, wherein a first, upper layer of the mattress core consists of a different material than a second, lower layer of the mattress core, and wherein a dividing line runs between these two layers, wherein the dividing line runs between two layers located one above the other at different distances from the upper and lower sides, such that the upper of these two layers has a different thickness in a shoulder area which is closer to the head end than to the foot end than in a leg area which is closer to the foot end than to the head end of the mattress core.

[0007] In other words, the invention proposes that the dividing line between two layers of the mattress core arranged one above the other should not run parallel to the top or bottom of an overall cuboid-shaped mattress core, but rather at different distances from the top and bottom of the mattress core. Between the middle and the head end, the mattress core has a so-called shoulder area, while the one between the middle and the foot end has a leg area. According to the invention, the dividing line between the two layers does not run parallel to the top or bottom, but in such a way that the material thickness of the upper layer in the shoulder area differs from the material thickness of this layer in the leg area. This makes it possible to divide the mattress core orSimply turn a mattress equipped with it, i.e. simply swap the head end for the foot end, in order to achieve different sinking depths in the shoulder area and a correspondingly different sleeping climate.

[0008] According to one embodiment, it can be provided that the upper and / or lower layer is provided with recesses.

[0009] It is known in practice to enable varying degrees of softness or firmness of the mattress core while maintaining the same material composition of a layer of a mattress core by removing material from the layer of the mattress core, for example in the form of incisions made in the material of this layer in the longitudinal and / or transverse direction of the mattress core, or for example in the form of holes or channels that completely penetrate the mattress core in the longitudinal or transverse direction and whose cross-section is circumferentially delimited by the material of the respective layer. Such additional processing to create corresponding recesses in the material of a specific layer of the mattress core can also be provided in a mattress core according to the invention. But even without such additional processing and therefore particularly economically, a mattress core designed according to the invention already offers the possibility of different sleeping climates by turning the mattress.

[0010] If the mattress core has only two layers and these two layers have different firmnesses, a basic choice between a softer and a harder mattress setting can be made by turning the mattress, whereby turning the mattress then also allows further adjustment, similar to fine-tuning the desired sleeping climate.

[0011] One embodiment may accordingly provide for the recesses to be designed as incisions that open into the surface of the layer. Alternatively or additionally, the recesses may be designed as channels that extend through the layer in the longitudinal and / or transverse directions, and whose respective cross-sections are bounded all around by the material of the layer.

[0012] According to a further development, it can be provided that the long sides are longer than the front sides.

[0013] The dimensions of the mattress core are virtually unlimited, especially its lengthwise and crosswise dimensions. In one design, however, the long sides are longer than the ends. This elongated design of the mattress core allows for a correspondingly elongated mattress, so that when used in a double bed, not one shared mattress is provided for two people, but rather each person can use their own mattress, thus allowing for individual adjustment of the sleeping comfort provided by the mattress to each individual's wishes or needs.

[0014] According to one embodiment, it can be provided that the dividing line is curved in a substantially S-shape.

[0015] The dividing line between the upper and lower layers can, for example, run in a straight line, rising or falling, or it can have several straight sections of varying gradients. In one embodiment, however, the dividing line essentially curves in an S-shape, resulting in a smooth, continuous transition between the different layer thicknesses of the upper layer of the mattress core. This results in an equally smooth, continuous transition between zones of different firmness, enabling the highest possible sleeping comfort for a person lying on a mattress equipped with this type of mattress core.

[0016] Furthermore, according to a further development, it can be provided that the upper and / or lower layer consists of a foam material.

[0017] The upper and / or lower of the two layers of the mattress core is made of a foam material. Foam materials have proven themselves to be an excellent choice for mattress manufacturing for years. They can be produced in various sizes with high precision, and their external shape can be easily and precisely processed to ensure the desired dividing line between the upper and lower layers. For foam materials, the additional processing steps mentioned above to create recesses in the material of a specific layer of a mattress core have been tried and tested in practice, thus providing additional options for influencing the lying sensation and the resulting sleeping comfort of a mattress equipped with a correspondingly designed mattress core.

[0018] In one embodiment, the mattress core has a layer designed as a barrel-shaped pocket spring core. Due to its air permeability and, depending on the design, possibly also its firmness, this layer allows for a cooler sleeping environment, which is particularly advantageous in higher ambient temperatures for the highest possible sleeping comfort. This layer can be one of the two layers mentioned, the dividing line of which does not run parallel to the top or bottom of the mattress core.

[0019] According to a preferred embodiment, it can be provided that the mattress core has more than two layers arranged one above the other.

[0020] However, this layer, designed as a barrel pocket spring core, can also be an additional layer of the mattress core. In general, the mattress core can have more than the two layers designed according to the invention, the dividing lines of which do not run parallel to the top or bottom of the mattress core. For example, an additional third layer can be provided, which can, for example, have a constant layer thickness and is located between the two aforementioned layers, so that the mattress core has two dividing lines that do not run parallel to the top or bottom of the mattress core.Or an additional layer - either as the third layer mentioned or as an additional fourth layer - can form the underside of the mattress core as the lowest layer thereof, whereby the upper side of this lowest layer can either run parallel to the underside of the mattress core in one embodiment or, in another embodiment, can also not run parallel to the top or underside of the mattress core.

[0021] A second aspect of the invention relates to a mattress with a mattress core having a number of the features described above and below, and with a mattress cover enveloping the mattress core.

[0022] In the context of the invention, a number refers to a singular or a plural number of a respective feature.

[0023] A mattress designed according to the invention has the mattress core designed according to the invention and a mattress cover that envelops the mattress core.

[0024] According to a further development, it may be expedient for the mattress cover, where it lies against the long sides of the mattress core, to be provided with a line which runs along or parallel to the dividing line between the upper and lower layers of the mattress core.

[0025] To facilitate handling of the mattress, whether by automatic handling machines during manufacture, transport or storage of the mattress, or later during use, the course of the dividing line, which does not run parallel to the top or bottom of the mattress core between the two layers, can be visualized on the outside of the mattress cover, since the mattress core itself is no longer visible due to the mattress cover. In one embodiment, the mattress cover is therefore provided with a line where it adjoins the long sides of the mattress core, which runs along the dividing line between the two layers of the mattress core. In this way, it is immediately apparent during use of the mattress whether the layer thickness of the upper layer in the shoulder area is comparatively thick or thin, depending on the rotation of the mattress.

[0026] In particular, if the mattress cover is composed of at least two parts, namely an upper and a lower part, these two parts can be designed differently, for example, have different structures with quilted seams or the like, have different patterns and / or colors, so that, due to this different design, the mattress cover also has a dividing line that runs between its upper and lower parts. In one embodiment, this dividing line of the mattress cover runs parallel or preferably congruent with the dividing line of the mattress core.

[0027] Furthermore, one embodiment may provide that the mattress cover has a zipper which runs along at least one long side of the mattress core and there along or parallel to the dividing line between the upper and lower layers of the mattress core.

[0028] In one embodiment of the mattress, the mattress cover is removable from the mattress core, for which purpose the mattress cover can be opened using a zipper. In an embodiment considered advantageous, the zipper can run along at least one long side of the mattress along the dividing line between the two inventive layers of the mattress core, so that the zipper forms the aforementioned line that visualizes the course of the dividing line between the two layers.

[0029] The invention is explained in more detail below using purely schematic representations. Fig. 1 to 3 various components for the production of a mattress core, Fig. 4 a longitudinal section through an embodiment of a mattress core, made from the components of the Fig. 1 bis 3 , and Fig. 5 a perspective view of a mattress, which is the mattress core of the Fig. 4 contains.

[0030] Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section through a cuboid foam block 1, which can be separated along an S-shaped dividing line 2 into two identical sections 3 and 4.

[0031] Fig. 2 Similarly, it shows a longitudinal section through a cuboid foam block 5, which can be separated into two identical sections 6 and 7 along a dividing line 2 that is also curved in an S-shape. The dividing lines 2 of both foam blocks 1 and 5 are identical and are therefore marked with the same number 2. The upper section 3 of the foam block 1 can therefore be placed directly onto the lower section 7 of the foam block 5 to create a mattress core consisting only of these two layers. However, the structure of a more complex mattress core is explained below purely as an example:

[0032] Fig. 3 shows a third, comparatively flat foam block 8, which extends over the same length as the two foam blocks 1 and 5. Below this is Fig. 3 a barrel pocket spring core 9 is shown which is both shorter and narrower than the foam blocks 1, 5 and 8. The barrel pocket spring core 9 is therefore assigned edge elements 10 made of a foam material, which can be arranged lengthwise next to the barrel pocket spring core 9 as edge elements 10l and at the front in front of and behind the barrel pocket spring core 9 as edge elements 10s, so that the barrel pocket spring core 9 and the edge elements 10l and 10s surrounding it together cover the same base area as each of the foam blocks 1, 5 and 8.

[0033] Fig. 4 shows a mattress core 11 in which the upper section 3 of the foam block 1 forms the uppermost layer of the mattress core 11 and the lower section 7 of the foam block 5 forms the lowermost layer of the mattress core 11. Below the uppermost layer is the flat foam block 8, and between this and the lowermost layer are the barrel pocket spring core 9 and the edge elements 10l and 10s surrounding it as the second lowest layer of the mattress core 11. The two dividing lines 2 of the mattress core 11 therefore separate, on the one hand, the two upper layers from one another, i.e., the upper section 3 from the flat foam block 8, and, on the other hand, the two lower layers from one another, i.e., the lower section 7 from the barrel pocket spring core 9 and the edge elements 10l and 10s.

[0034] Since both the foam block 8 and the barrel pocket spring core 9 and the edge elements 10l and 10s are basically cuboid-shaped and thus have upper and lower sides running parallel to each other, a further S-shaped curved dividing line 2 results between these two middle of the four layers of the mattress core 11.

[0035] The mattress core 11 has a head end 12 and a foot end 14. These designations are chosen purely as examples to identify the two different, opposite ends of the mattress core 11, because the mattress core 11 can be rotated about its vertical axis, so that these two ends are interchanged within a bed and the end that previously formed the head end 12 now forms the foot end 14 of the mattress core 11 in use. Fig. 4 According to the designations chosen, the mattress core 11 has a shoulder area 15 near the head end 12 and a leg area 16 near the foot end 14. The layer thickness of the uppermost layer, namely the upper section 3, is greater in the shoulder area 15 than in the leg area 16, so that the sleeping climate can be influenced by the above-mentioned rotation of the mattress core 11, after which the leg area 16 will form the shoulder area 15 in use.

[0036] Apart from the mentioned rotation, the mattress core 11 can also be turned so that the lower part 7, which is in Fig. 4 forms the lowest layer of the mattress core 11, will then represent the uppermost layer of the mattress core 11 in use, and this lower section 7 also results in different layer thicknesses for the shoulder area 15 and the leg area 16, so that further influences on the sleeping climate are made possible by a corresponding alignment of the mattress core 11. Furthermore, some of the layers of the mattress core 11 have recesses 23 which, through their shape, their cross-sectional size and their distribution, enable further influences on the mattress core 11 with regard to its softness or firmness, namely with regard to the depth of sinking of a body lying on the mattress core 11 or on a mattress 17 equipped therewith.

[0037] Fig. 5 shows a mattress 17 with a mattress cover 18 which envelops a mattress core 11, so that the mattress core 11 in Fig. 5is not visible. The mattress cover 18 is constructed in several parts and has an upper part 19 and a lower part 20 and, in between, a circumferential, perforated middle part 21. The mattress cover 18 is removable from the mattress core 11 and, for this purpose, has a zipper 22 so that the mattress cover 18 can be opened or closed as desired. The zipper 22 also runs in an S-shape according to the dividing line 2 between the uppermost layer of the mattress core 11 and the flat foam block 8, so that the layer thickness of the upper section 3, which is greater in the shoulder area 15 than in the leg area 16, is visible from the outside even when the mattress core 11 is covered.

[0038] Since the middle part 21 has a constant height, the different layer thicknesses in the shoulder area 15 and in the leg area 16 can also be seen for the lowest layer of the mattress core 11, corresponding to the course of the zipper 22. Reference symbols:
