Description

[0001] RESPIRATORY PROTECTION METHOD AND TRANSPARENT MASK

[0002] The invention relates to a method of respiratory protection and to a transparent respiratory protection mask with a changeable filter.

[0003] Background of the invention

[0004] Australian patent application published under number AU2020102286 relates to a respiratory mask assembly consisting of a substantially pear-shaped mask body intended to come into contact with the face of its user, a stiffening element removably attached to the mask body, on the inner side thereof, a mask covering removably placed on the mask body on the outer side thereof, at least one filter assembly for the entry of air through the mask covering, the mask body and the stiffening element assembled, and an exhalation assembly forming an air outlet through the mask body. The mask covering has two bands for attachment to the user's head and holding the entire mask assembly.

[0005] The Spanish patent application published under number ES 2 778 000 concerns a reusable respiratory protection mask. This mask is intended to be applied to the nose and lower face and to be fixed by means of bands surrounding the ears and the head and which are connected to two circular lateral protrusions comprising filters. A protrusion is also provided at the bottom of the mask to receive electronic devices. This mask is transparent in order to facilitate communication and facial recognition, however it is not adaptable and its entire circumference is pressed against the user's face, which does not allow any movement of the jaws, except to cause the lifting or displacement of the mask and consequently leaks, which greatly reduces the effectiveness and reliability of the mask.

[0006] The subject of the Chinese patent application published under No. CN 107 929 967 and the Chinese utility model published under No. CN 208 097 144 is a respiratory mask comprising:

[0007] - a transparent mask body whose perimeter comprises an upper part, a right side part, a left side part and a lower part;

[0008] - a sealing element for facial contact located around the perimeter of the transparent mask body;

[0009] - at least one lateral filtration assembly;

[0010] - a right means and a left means of holding on a face, in which:

[0011] • the upper part of the perimeter of the mask body has a right curvature and a left curvature which start from its center, curve downwards and rise upwards,

[0012] • the lower part of the perimeter of the mask body is horizontal,

[0013] • the right and left side parts of the mask body are vertical,

[0014] • the right and left holding means are fixed at the angles formed between the upper part and the right and left lateral parts of the perimeter of the mask body, respectively; and

[0015] • the membrane projects relative to the mask body with one end fixed to the mask body and one free end, and, at the upper part of the perimeter of the mask body, the free end of the membrane moves away perpendicularly to the mask body.

[0016] In this mask, the sealing element designated by the reference 103 and which is best seen in figures 5 and 6 of these Chinese documents, is a sealing ring, having a U-shaped cross-section whose free ends have been bent towards each other.

[0017] This mask must be attached both to the user's ears and then around the back of their neck, which increases the user's feeling of discomfort.

[0018] Its lower part is therefore designed to be pressed against the user's chin by the 510 attachment, which has the disadvantage that the user can hardly speak and if he speaks, the movement of his lower jaw causes an unpleasant sliding of the chin on the sealing ring and destroys the seal of the mask. In any case, this mask is not designed to allow its user to communicate because it is equipped with two fans located near the user's ears, which prevents him from hearing surrounding noises correctly.

[0019] Patent No. FR 773 129 proposes a respiratory mask. This mask, as stated in the description of this patent and clearly shown in Figure 4, is designed to be applied by pressure to the user's face. It is therefore impossible for the user of such a mask to speak once he has put on his mask.

[0020] The US patent application published under number US2017 / 0007861 proposes a respiratory mask comprising a facial sealing member, provided, as indicated in paragraph

[0014] of this application, to surround the nasal and oral regions of the user. As can be seen in particular in Figure 5, the mask, once pressed against the face of its user, does not allow the latter to speak.

[0021] The Korean patent application published under the number

[0022] KR 2005 0042986 relates to a transparent mask, which is intended to cover the nose and mouth of its user. As is clear from Figures 2 and 11 of this application, the user cannot speak while wearing the mask because any movement of his lower jaw would cause a loss of seal.

[0023] Summary of the invention

[0024] The main aim of the invention is to propose a method of respiratory protection using a respiratory protection mask which is transparent, adjustable to the wearer's face, comfortable, which has good breathability, which allows the wearer to speak while maintaining its fit to the face and its seal, which is reliable and reusable and whose filters can be easily replaced.

[0025] To achieve this objective, the inventor has therefore designed a mask whose lower part is not applied against the chin but against the underside of the chin. This has the effect of allowing the user to speak freely and without endangering the seal of the mask. Such a result is obtained by providing that the seal is ensured by a membrane projecting, at the level of the lower part of the periphery of the mask body, from the periphery of the mask body to which it is fixed, in an upwardly inclined manner and its free end curves downwards.Thus, the positioning and flexibility of the membrane hardly hinders downward movements of the lower jaw, absorbs these movements which are not very significant because the membrane is closer to the jaw joint, and all this without inconveniencing the user thanks to the curved end of the membrane, this also allowing sliding, adaptation below the chin while ensuring maintenance of the seal of the mask. In addition, the curved shape of the mask body makes it possible to further improve the approximation of the free end of the membrane to the lower jaw joint.

[0026] According to the invention, this aim is achieved using a respiratory protection method according to the following point 1:

[0027] 1. Method of respiratory protection comprising the steps of:

[0028] 1) obtain a mask including:

[0029] - a transparent mask body whose perimeter comprises an upper part, a right side part, a left side part and a lower part;

[0030] - a membrane located around the perimeter of the transparent mask body;

[0031] - at least one set, preferably lateral;

[0032] - a right and a left holding means;

[0033] • the upper part of the perimeter of the mask body comprising a right curvature and a left curvature which start from its center, curve downwards and rise upwards,

[0034] • the lower part of the perimeter of the mask body being horizontal,

[0035] • the right and left lateral parts of the mask body being vertical, • the right and left holding means being fixed to the angles formed between the upper part and the right and left lateral parts of the perimeter of the mask body, respectively, and

[0036] • the membrane projecting from the mask body with one end fixed to the mask body and one free end, and, at the upper part of the perimeter of the mask body, the free end of the membrane extending perpendicularly to the mask body,

[0037] • and, at the lower part of the perimeter of the mask body, the membrane protruding, from the perimeter of the mask body to which it is attached, in an upwardly inclined manner and its free end curving downwards;

[0038] 2) place the mask on the face of a user, placing the membrane, at the lower part of the perimeter of the mask body, only in contact with the lower face of the jaw of this user.

[0039] Advantageous features of the method of point 1 above are indicated in the following points:

[0040] 2. Respiratory protection method according to point 1, including a preliminary step of selecting a mask for the user.

[0041] 3. Method of respiratory protection according to point 3, in which the preliminary step of selecting a mask for the user includes a seal test.

[0042] 4. Respiratory protection method according to point 3, in which the seal test is carried out using a shutter such as a mask fit test shutter. Indeed, if there is no seal, this means that the mask is poorly adjusted, i.e. poorly positioned on the user's face and / or that its size is unsuitable for the user.

[0043] The assembly is preferably lateral and is preferably a filtration assembly. Preferably, two assemblies are provided, preferably one on each side (right and left) of the mask body.

[0044] The invention also relates to a mask according to the following point 5:

[0045] 5. Respiratory protection mask suitable in particular for implementing the method according to one of the preceding points, comprising:

[0046] - a transparent mask body whose perimeter comprises an upper part, a right side part, a left side part and a lower part;

[0047] - a membrane located around the perimeter of the transparent mask body;

[0048] - at least one set, preferably lateral;

[0049] - a right and a left holding means;

[0050] • the upper part of the perimeter of the mask body comprising a right curvature and a left curvature which start from its center, curve downwards and rise upwards,

[0051] • the lower part of the perimeter of the mask body being horizontal,

[0052] • the right and left side parts of the mask body being vertical,

[0053] • the right and left holding means being fixed at the angles formed between the upper part and the right and left lateral parts of the periphery of the mask body, respectively, and • the membrane projecting relative to the mask body with one end fixed to the mask body and one free end, and, at the upper part of the periphery of the mask body, the free end of the membrane moving away perpendicularly from the mask body, this mask being distinguished in that, at the lower part of the periphery of the mask body, the membrane projects, from the periphery of the mask body to which it is fixed, in an upwardly inclined manner and its free end curving downwards.

[0057] 7bis. Mask according to one of points 5 to 7, comprising two sets, preferably lateral.

[0058] 8. Mask according to one of points 5 to 7bis, in which the assembly(s), preferably lateral (lateral), has (have) an openwork base, a cover having a main side and a side wall on only part of its periphery, in order to leave one side open, preferably facing the rear of the mask.

[0059] 9. Mask according to point 8, further comprising a filter inserted between the cover and the openwork base. 10. Mask according to point 8, further comprising a shutter inserted between the cover and the openwork base.

[0060] 11. Mask according to one of points 5 to 10, in which, at the lateral parts of the periphery of the mask body, the free end of the membrane moves away perpendicularly from the body of the mask and then curves towards the rear of the mask, the right and left sides of the membrane approaching each other forming a rounding.

[0061] 12. Mask according to one of points 5 to 11, in which the width of the membrane increases from top to bottom at the side parts and the periphery of the mask body.

[0062] 13. Mask according to one of points 5 to 12, in which:

[0063] - the right holding means forms a loop with the perimeter of the mask body, also being fixed at the junction of the lower part and the right lateral part of the mask body, and

[0064] - the left holding means forms a loop with the perimeter of the mask body, also being fixed at the junction of the lower part and the left lateral part of the mask body.

[0065] 14. Mask according to one of points 5 to 13, in which the holding means are fixed to the mask body in an adjustable manner.

[0066] 15. Mask according to point 8 or one of points 9 to 14 when attached to point 8, in which each main side is provided on its side facing the base with ribs.

[0067] 16.- Mask according to point 8 or one of points 9 to 15 when they are attached to point 8, in which the lids are provided at the ends of their side walls opposite the main sides, with edges. 17.- Mask according to one of points 9 or 10 or one of points 10 to 16, when they are attached to point 9 or 10, in which each filter or shutter has a tab.

[0068] 18.- Mask according to point 5 to 17, in which the side assemblies each form a cassette and / or the filters each form a cartridge, each cassette and each cartridge having the shape of an isosceles trapezoid whose parallel sides have been curved concentrically.

[0069] 19.- Mask according to point 9 or one of points 11 to 18, when attached to point 9, in which each filter has a frame inside which there is a porous material.

[0070] It goes without saying that the characteristics of points 5 to 19 also apply to the mask mentioned in the method of points 1 to 4.

[0071] The invention also relates to the use of the mask according to the invention for providing respiratory protection to a person, in which the mask is placed on the person's face, by arranging the membrane, at the lower part of the perimeter of the mask body, only in contact with the lower face of the jaw of this person.

[0072] Preferably, this use includes a prior step of selecting a mask for this person (the user). This selection step preferably includes a seal test. This is preferably carried out using a shutter such as a shutter for mask fit testing.

[0073] According to another aspect, the invention also relates to a method for manufacturing the aforementioned mask, the particularity of which is that it comprises a bi-injection step. According to yet another aspect, the invention relates to a method for testing the tightness of a mask with a changeable filter, in which a shutter is used instead of a filter. This method can be used with any mask with a changeable filter and in particular with the mask according to the invention.

[0074] Thus, the mask user inserts a plug that has roughly the same dimensions as a filter, such as a mask fit test plug, into the place where the filter is usually located, and then by inhaling and exhaling, checks the mask's seal. This is easier to implement than the techniques used so far and is much more reliable than the method of plugging the mask with the hands.

[0075] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will now be described in detail in the following description which is given with reference to the appended figures, which schematically represent:

[0085] [Fig. 11]: A sectional side view of the user's frame in Figure 10, with the user's mouth now open and, consequently, his lower jaw moved downwards.

[0086] Detailed description of the invention

[0087] An exemplary embodiment of the transparent respiratory protection mask according to the invention is shown in Figures 1 to 11.

[0088] To understand how it works, it is emphasized that from a medical point of view, the normal mouth opening is three fingers placed vertically one above the other. As can be seen in Figures 10 and 11, the mouth opening is done by a rocking movement of the lower jaw backward and downward due to the complex movement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) whose axis makes a complex movement composed of simultaneous translation and rotation.

[0089] The mask according to the invention therefore incorporates a unique design with the end of the membrane forming a bead under the lower jaw which perfectly matches the shape of the wearer's chin and which has the particularity of flattening and returning back to follow the complex movement of the jaw. The depression of the bead when the jaw opens will allow the membrane to always remain hermetically in contact with the lower jaw and to absorb all of the movement when the mouth opens. This structure is the origin of the stability of the mask on the face when speaking because the upper part which rests on the nose does not undergo any movement.

[0090] In Figure 1, the mask is shown correctly fitted to a wearer and ready for use. This mask firstly comprises a transparent mask body 1, rigid or semi-rigid, the perimeter of which comprises an upper part 36, a right lateral part 2, a left lateral part 3 and a lower part 4.

[0091] The upper part 36 of the rim has a right curvature 5 and a left curvature 6 which start from its center 7, curve downwards and then rise upwards, so as to move towards the tops of the wearer's ears, while following more or less, at a distance, the outline of his eyes.

[0092] The lower part 4 is horizontal while the lateral parts 2 and 3 are substantially vertical. Such a shape makes it possible to obtain a larger contact surface of the mask body 1 on the wearer's face, which distributes the contact pressure better compared to known masks. In addition, it leaves free, on the one hand, the nodal points for human communication, namely the eyes, nose and mouth, and, on the other hand, the areas used by facial recognition algorithms.

[0093] In Figures 2 and 3, it can be seen that the mask body 1 is provided with a membrane 8 for facial contact running around the perimeter of the mask body 1.

[0094] The membrane 8 has one end fixed to the mask body 1 and it projects relative to the latter. At the upper part 36 of the periphery of the mask body 1, the free end of the membrane 8, as can be seen in particular in FIG. 1, moves away perpendicularly from the mask body 1, in order to reduce the visual clutter. Thus, the mask wearer only sees a narrow strip of membrane.

[0095] At the lateral portions 2 and 3 of the perimeter of the mask body 1, the free end of the membrane 8 also moves away perpendicularly to the mask body 1 and then curves towards the rear of the mask, so as to increase the contact surface and to allow absorption of facial movements. In addition, the width of the membrane 8 increases from top to bottom, in order to compensate for the natural thinning of the face and to allow the lower portion 4 of the perimeter of the mask body 1 to remain horizontal.

[0096] At this lower part 4 of the periphery of the mask body 1, the membrane 8 projects, from the periphery of the mask body 1 to which it is fixed, in an upwardly inclined manner and its free end curves downwards, as can be seen in particular in Figure 4. This curvature has the effect of increasing the contact surface with the lower jaw and provides a seal at this level as well as stability during movements of the lower jaw.

[0097] Indeed, as can be better seen in particular in Figure 9, thanks to its upwardly inclined part and its free end curving downwards, the membrane 8 can absorb the downward movements of the lower jaw, while ensuring sealing, and its downward curvature avoids pressure against the jaw which is unpleasant for the user.

[0098] Furthermore, the right and left sides of the membrane 8, visible in particular in figures 4 and 5, move closer to each other, forming a rounding.

[0099] The combination of increasing the width of the membrane 8 at the bottom of the side portions 2 and 3 of the perimeter of the mask body 1 and bringing the right and left sides of the membrane 8 closer together at the lower portion 4 of the perimeter of the mask body 1 results in obtaining a rounded shape that fits the chin of a user, with great adaptability due to the flexibility of the membrane 8.

[0100] By keeping the mask body 1 away from the face, the membrane 8 creates a volume in front of the breathing holes, which facilitates breathing and air circulation. Thanks to this, the wearer does not need to make a respiratory effort and can breathe normally.

[0101] As can be seen in Figure 4, the mask according to the invention comprises a right holding means 9 and a left holding means 10 on the face of the wearer, intended to pass around his ears or his head. These right 9 and left 10 holding means on the face are fixed, on the one hand, to the angles 11 and 12 formed between the upper part 36 and the right 2 and left 3 lateral parts, respectively, and, on the other hand, to the junctions 13 and 14 of the lower part 4 and the right 2 and left 3 lateral parts, respectively, of the periphery of the transparent mask body 1.

[0102] This allows a main support of the membrane 8 on the face along the entire upper part 36 of the mask body 1, a lighter support of the membrane 8 at the level of the lateral parts 2 and 3 and an even lighter support at the level of the lower part 4.

[0103] Preferably, the dimension of the mask body 1, in particular the length of the side parts 2 and 3 of the circumference, is designed so that the lower part 4 is located under the user's chin, as is clearly evident from Figures 1 to 3.

[0104] The mask body 1 is generally curved from the upper part to the lower part. It can therefore have the overall shape of a portion of a sphere, which has the advantages of preventing extensive reflection of light and leaving a comfortable space in front of the wearer's nose and mouth.

[0105] The membrane 8 allows, on the one hand, the adaptability of the mask body 1 to different faces and, on the other hand, the movements of the face (speech, grimaces and other facial expressions), due to the stability of the adjustment. The greatest support being exerted at the level of the upper part 36, the free end of the membrane is preferably provided with an additional facial contact element 34, visible in particular in Figure 4, which softens and softens the pressure on the face.

[0106] The support of the mask body on the face can also be adjusted with the right 9 and left 10 face holding means, the length of which can be varied using their attachments to the mask body 1, as can be seen in Figure 4, where the lower parts of the holding means 10 and 11 are held, at the junctions 13 and 14, by clamp-forming elements inside which the holding means 9 and 10 can be slid by pulling them in one direction or the other.

[0107] Returning in particular to Figure 1, we see on each side of the mask body 1, air filtration assemblies 15 and 16. Indeed, the mask body 1 being impermeable and the membrane 8 making the inside of the mask airtight, it is necessary to allow the passage of air so that the wearer of the mask can inhale and exhale normally.

[0108] The air filtration assemblies 15 and 16 are visible in detail in Figure 5. They are each composed of a base 17, 18 which is fixed to an opening of substantially the same size provided laterally in the mask body 1.

[0109] The bases 17 and 18 have openings 19 and 20 for the air inlet and outlet, the air filtration assemblies 15 and 16 then being bidirectional.

[0110] Covers are mounted on the bases 17 and 18. They each have a main side 21, 22 and, arranged perpendicular to it, a side wall 23, 24 on a part of their periphery, in order to leave one side open for the introduction of the filters 25, 28. The air circulates only through this open side which is turned towards the rear. This makes it possible to avoid the projection of spittle or droplets onto the active faces of the filters.

[0111] The main sides 21 and 22 are provided on their faces facing the bases 17, 18 with ribs 26, 27 intended to create a volume of air circulation between the main sides 21, 22 of the covers and the filters 25, 28 and to form a stabilizing support for them.

[0112] The other faces of the main sides 21 and 22, those facing the outside of the mask, can carry various information (name, brand, logo, design, etc.). Figure 6 shows the introduction of the filter 25 into its cover and Figure 7 shows the filter 25 in the normal position of use.

[0113] In order to facilitate its installation and removal, each filter 25, 28 preferably comprises a tab 29, 30. The covers may be provided at the ends of their side walls 23, 24 opposite the main sides 21, 22, with edges 31, 32 intended both to come into contact with the bases 17, 18 and to create a filter compartment, as is evident in particular from figures 6 and 7. In addition, the covers comprise rivets 33, 34 passing through corresponding holes provided in the bases 17, 18 (see Fig. 8) and being fixed in the mask body 1, in order to firmly and tightly hold the covers on the mask body.

[0114] It goes without saying that the filters 25, 28 are intended to plug all the openings 19, 20 and that the tabs 19 and 20 preferably remain outside the filtration assemblies so that they can be accessible.

[0115] Preferably, the filters 25,28 have a rigid, impermeable frame 35,36, inside which is a porous material.

[0116] Thus, the air filtration assemblies 15,16 play a role of receiving cassette and the filters 25,28 a role of cartridge.

[0117] Different types of filters can be accommodated to achieve different types of filtration.

[0118] Such a design of the air filtration assemblies 15 and 16 has the advantage of allowing easy changing of the filters 25, 28 which can also be carried out without having to remove the mask, or even to remove one of the parts constituting it, since it is sufficient to slide each filter 25, 28 inside the filter compartment of the respective air filtration assembly 15, 16, between two parallel internal faces of the side walls 23, 24, until it comes into abutment against the face of the side wall 23, 24 opposite the inlet of the filter compartment.

[0119] In Figures 6 and 7 in particular, it can be seen that the filtration assemblies 15 and 16, when projected onto a plane, have substantially the shape of an isosceles trapezoid whose parallel sides have been curved concentrically, the smallest side of the trapezoid preferably being closest to the center of the virtual circle. The filters 25 and 27, if we disregard the tabs 29 and 30, have the same shape. This shape facilitates the introduction of the filters 25 and 27 into the filter compartments, thanks to their small curved sides.

[0120] Materials and manufacturing

[0121] The respiratory protection mask can be manufactured with known materials and for example by bi-injection, over-injection or thermo-molding. Preferably, simultaneous or sequential bi-injection of the membrane 8 and the mask body 1 is used.

[0122] The membrane is preferably made of an elastomer such as a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) and / or a thermoplastic styrenic elastomer (TPE-S) or possibly silicone.

[0123] Mask body 1 is made of transparent injectable plastic or biomaterials.

[0124] The side assemblies 15, 16 are at least partially made of polypropylene (PP) and / or polylactic acid (PLA) and / or polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) and / or biopolyester.

[0125] Filter frames are generally made of injectable elastomer-thermoplastic materials.

[0126] Porous filter materials vary depending on the type of filtration required. For example, the filter can be made of propylene or equivalent for infectious particle filters.

[0127] The transparent mask according to the invention is preferably available in 3 sizes, so as to suit the majority of human faces and in rarer sizes depending on the morphology of certain faces.

[0128] The entire mask, with the obvious exception of the filters, is reusable after disinfection by washing.
