[0002] Integration of speakers in a vehicle may be challenging. When integrating a speaker into a vehicle, many different aspects and constraints have to be considered. During the use of the speaker, the speaker may cause other elements of the vehicle to vibrate, thereby generating unwanted noise that adversely affect the listening experience of the occupants. Even further, the acoustic performance of the speaker may suffer if a speaker is positioned in an unfavorable position. Loudspeakers may further be used to provide structure-borne sound to a user which, however, may be perceived as unpleasant by a user if it is not well tuned.
[0003] There is a need for a vehicle comprising a low frequency speaker that is easily integrable and provides a satisfying listening experience as well as balanced and controlled structure-borne sound (tactile feedback) for the occupants of the vehicle.SUMMARY

[0014] Figure 1 schematically illustrates a top view of a vehicle 10. The vehicle 10 comprises a car seat 220 (e.g., a driver’s seat). A car seat 220 generally comprises a seatingarea and a backrest. A low frequency speaker 30 is arranged in the backrest of the car seat 220. The low frequency speaker 30 is configured to emit sound at frequencies of between 20Hz and 200Hz. The low frequency speaker 30 is arranged at a backside of the car seat 220. That is, a sound radiating surface of the low frequency speaker 30 may be directed towards the back of the vehicle 10. In other words, a main direction of sound propagation may be directed towards the rear of the vehicle 10 (indicated by means of an arrow in Figure 1). Low frequency sound waves, however, generally propagate in all directions (spherical wave).
[0015] The position of the low frequency speaker 30 is described in more detail with respect to Figure 2 in the following. Figure 2 schematically illustrates a car seat 220 comprising a seating area 2204 and a backrest 2202. The seating area 2204 is arranged at a lower end of the backrest 2202. The lower end of a backrest 2202 in a vehicle generally is an end facing towards a ground surface (i.e. towards a road the vehicle 10 is travelling on). The backrest 2202 generally has a height h2202 in a vertical direction y, wherein the vertical direction y is perpendicular to the ground surface. The low frequency speaker 30 is arranged in the backrest 2202 at a first position, wherein the first position is arranged in a lower half h2202 / 2 towards the lower end of the backrest 2202. According to further embodiments, the low frequency speaker 30 may be arranged in a lower third h2202 / 3 of the backrest, or even in a lower fourth of the backrest (not specifically indicated in Figure 2). The low frequency speaker 30 (the first position) may be arranged directly adjacent to the lower end of the backrest 2202, for example.
[0016] The low frequency speaker 30 is arranged on a backside of the backrest 2202 that faces away from the seating area 2204, and is therefore configured to emit sound (main direction of sound propagation) mainly in a direction facing away from the seating area 2204. That is, the low frequency speaker 30 (e.g., a sound radiating surface of the low frequency speaker 30) is directed towards one or more back seats arranged behind the respective car seat 220. Positioning a low frequency speaker 30 in a backrest 2202 of a car seat 220 such that it is directed towards the back of the vehicle 10 (away from the seating area 2204 of the car seat 220 it is mounted in) results in an optimized low frequency output (SPL), bandwidth and localization, for example. It is further possible to optimize the vibration (tactile feedback) of the low frequency speaker 30 in this position, e.g., by means of (customized) damped mounting or a balanced woofer configuration. For example, any vibrations caused by the lowfrequency speaker 30 can be damped more efficiently when the low frequency speaker 30 is arranged in this position, as compared to, e.g., low frequency speakers 30 arranged in a door of the vehicle 10. Any unwanted vibration may be easily minimized when arranging the low frequency speaker 30 at the lower end of the backrest 2202, as described above.
[0017] The low frequency speaker 30, however, according to some embodiments of the disclosure may be mechanically coupled to the car seat 220 such that an occupant 24 of the vehicle 10 perceives vibrations generated by the low frequency speaker 30. This effect is also used, e.g., in cinemas to enhance the perception of the sound (so-called shaker effect). An occupant 24 seated on the car seat 220 may fully immerse in the sound (bass) generated by the low frequency speaker 30 such that the sound experience may be enhanced. As some people do not like this experience, a mechanical coupling of the low frequency speaker 30 to the car seat 220 is generally optional. A mechanical decoupling generally results in a more natural sound. According to other embodiments of the disclosure, it may even be possible that the low frequency speaker 30 may be mechanically coupled to or decoupled from the car seat 220 individually. That is, an occupant 24 of the vehicle 10 seated on the car seat 220 may activate or deactivate the function (shaker effect) as they like.
[0018] The low frequency speaker 30 may comprise a loudspeaker enclosure. The loudspeaker enclosure may be easily integrated in the backrest 2202 of the car seat 220. The loudspeaker enclosure may comprise an opening, wherein the loudspeaker is mounted in the opening such that a first side of the sound radiating surface faces the inside of the enclosure, and a second side of the sound radiating surface faces towards the outside of the enclosure and towards the rear of the vehicle 10. The low frequency speaker 30 may be arranged centrally in the backrest 2202 in a horizontal direction x, wherein the horizontal direction x is a direction parallel to a top surface of the seating area 2204, wherein a top surface of the seating area 2204 is a surface on which an occupant 24 of the vehicle 10 may be seated. In other words, a distance between the low frequency speaker 30 and a right side of the backrest 2202 may equal a distance between the low frequency speaker 30 and a left side of the backrest 2202. In this way, vibrations may be transferred from the low frequency speaker 30 to the frame 2210 in a symmetrical way which is usually perceived as very pleasant by an occupant seated on the car seat 220.
[0019] The car seat 220 may be a driver’s seat of the vehicle 10, for example. Similar to what has been described above, a second low frequency speaker 32 may be arranged in a backrest of a front passenger seat 222 comprising a seating area and a backrest, wherein the seating area is arranged at a lower end of the backrest. The second low frequency speaker 32 may also be configured to emit sound at frequencies of between 20Hz and 200Hz. The second low frequency speaker 32 may be arranged in the backrest of the front passenger seat 222 at a second position, wherein the second position is arranged in a lower half towards the lower end of the backrest. The second low frequency speaker 32 is arranged on a backside of the backrest that faces away from the seating area of the car seat 222 it is mounted to.
[0020] When low frequency speakers 30, 32 are arranged in the described positions, it is generally not possible for occupants of the vehicle 10 to localize them. That is, the acoustic performance of the system may be optimal. The vehicle 10 may further comprise mid- and high frequency speakers arranged at the front of the vehicle 10 (e.g., in the dashboard of the vehicle 10). The one or more low frequency speakers 30, 32 as described above may be easily integrated into such an existing soundstage arranged in front of the front passengers of the vehicle 10. For a front passenger 24 of a vehicle 10, the arrangement of the loudspeakers as has been described above may generate the feeling that the front passenger is surrounded by the bass generated by the low frequency speakers 30, 32.
[0021] In order to provide well balanced structure-borne sound in a controlled way, the low frequency speaker 30 may be coupled to the car seat 220. This is schematically illustrated in Figures 3 and 4. A car seat 220 generally comprises a frame 2210, usually a metal frame, which is covered by foam, cushion or upholstery. The frame 2210 and upholstery generally define the seating area 2204 and the backrest 2202 of the car seat 220. The upholstery may be further covered by a layer of fabric, for example. Different components such as, e.g., belt receptables, reclining mechanism, etc. may be mounted to the frame 2210, for example. As is illustrated in the figures, the speaker 30 may be mounted to the frame 2210 of the car seat 220 by means of a bearing 2212. The frame 2210 may comprise backrest side members, for example, that are arranged along the sides (left and right) of the backrest 2202. The speaker 30 may be mounted to such backrest side members by means of the bearing 2212, for example. A speaker 30 mounted to a frame 2210 of a car seat by means of a bearing 2212 is further schematically illustrated in Figure 6. Figure 6 schematically illustrates a “naked”frame of a car seat with a speaker 30 mounted thereto. Any cushions or upholstery are omitted in Figure 6 for improved clearness.
[0022] The bearing 2212 provides a first acoustical path between the low frequency speaker 30 and the car seat 220. Via this first acoustical path, vibrations of the low frequency speaker 30 are transmitted to the frame 2210. An occupant of the vehicle 10 seated on the car seat 220 perceives such vibrations as structure-borne sound (tactile feedback). The structure- borne sound that is coupled into the seat via the generally rigid (metal) frame 2210 gains comparably high bass frequencies (e.g., >50Hz, or >100Hz) and adds control to the bass that is subjectively perceived by the occupant.
[0023] The structure-borne sound transmitted to the car seat 220 via the bearing 2212 and the frame 2210 alone, however, may be perceived as unpleasant by an occupant seated on the car seat 220. For this reason, a second acoustic path may be provided for the structure-borne sound. In particular, at least a backside of the low frequency speaker 30 may directly or indirectly adjoin the upholstery of the car seat 220. The backside of the low frequency speaker 30 is a side which faces towards an inside of the car seat 220. That is, when the low frequency speaker 30 vibrates during its use, the vibrations may not only be transmitted to the frame 2210 of the car seat 220 via the bearing 2212, but also directly to the upholstery. While the frame 2210 generally is a rigid component, the upholstery consists of or comprises foam or other comparably soft materials. Therefore, well noticeable low end (e.g., <50Hz) structure-borne sound may be provided via the second acoustic path. Providing structure- borne sound solely via the second acoustical path may feel uncontrolled, powerless, or “flattery” for an occupant seated on the car seat 220. Combining a first coupling impedance of a first acoustical path and a second coupling impedance of a second acoustical path may result in a very pleasant experience for a user seated on the car seat 220. By balancing the first coupling impedance of the first acoustical path and the second coupling impedance of the second acoustical path in a suitable way, the tactile feedback (structure-borne sound) may be tuned in a highly pleasant way. The low end (e.g., <50Hz) as well as the higher bass range (e.g. >50Hz, or >100Hz) are well balanced and bass control is optimized which is perceived as very pleasant by an occupant seated on the car seat 220.
[0024] The low frequency speaker 30 may comprise a loudspeaker enclosure. The loudspeaker enclosure may be easily integrated in the backrest 2202 of the car seat 220 and mounted to the frame 2210 of the car seat 220 by means of the bearing 2212. The bearing 2212 may allow for a movement of the speaker 30 in a horizontal direction z, wherein the horizontal direction z is a direction parallel to a top surface of the seating area 2204. According to one example and as is schematically illustrated in Figure 4, the bearing 2212 may comprise a first bearing member comprising a first bolt 2216 and a first rail 2214, and a second bearing member comprising a second bolt 2216 and a second rail 2214. The first rail may comprise a counterpart for the first bolt 2216, and the first bolt 2216 may be inserted into the counterpart. The first rail 2214 may be rigidly attached to the frame 2210 by inserting the first bolt 2216 into and rigidly connecting the first bolt 2216 to the respective counterpart, or the first rail 2214 may slightly pivot about the first bolt 2216. That is, the first bolt 2216 may have a round shape, for example, with a first diameter, and the first counterpart may be a sleeve or recess also having a round shape. A diameter of the sleeve or recess may be equal to or may be slightly larger than the first diameter of the first bolt 2216. Slightly larger in this context refers to a difference of between 0 and 0.5mm (millimetres), for example. The second rail may comprise a counterpart for the second bolt 2216, and the second bolt 2216 may be inserted into the counterpart. The second rail 2214 may be rigidly attached to the frame 2210 by inserting the second bolt 2216 into the respective counterpart, or the second rail 2214 may slightly pivot about the second bolt 2216. That is, the second bolt 2216 may have a round shape, for example, with a second diameter, and the second counterpart may be a sleeve or recess also having a round shape. A diameter of the sleeve or recess may be equal to or may be slightly larger than the second diameter of the second bolt 2216. Slightly larger in this context refers to a difference of between 0 and 0.5mm (millimetres), for example. The second diameter of the second bolt 2216 may equal the first diameter of the first bolt 2216.
[0025] The first rail 2214 may be attached to the loudspeaker enclosure and extend from the loudspeaker enclosure towards a first side (e.g., right side), and the second rail 2214 may be attached to the loudspeaker enclosure and extend from the loudspeaker enclosure towards a second side, opposite the first side (e.g., left side). The first and second rail 2214 may be attached to an upper side of the loudspeaker enclosure, wherein the upper side is a side facing towards an upper end of the backrest 2202 opposite the lower end of the backrest 2202 andtowards a headrest of the car seat 220. In other words, when the speaker 30 is mounted to the car seat 220 and the car seat 220 is arranged in a vehicle 10, the speaker 30 is arranged between the first and second rails 2214 and a road the vehicle 10 is travelling on.
[0026] As has been described above, at least a backside of the low frequency speaker 30 may directly or indirectly adjoin the upholstery of the car seat 220. According to one example, a contact layer 2220 is arranged between the backside of the low frequency speaker and the upholstery. This contact layer 2220 directly adjoins the low frequency speaker 30 as well as the upholstery such that, when the low frequency speaker 30 vibrates, the contact layer 2220 transmits the vibrations from the low frequency speaker 30 to the upholstery. A contact layer 2220 is schematically illustrated in Figures 3 and 5, for example. The contact layer 2220 may consist of a material that is different from the material of the upholstery, for example. In this way, the second acoustical path may be tuned and structure-borne sound may be transmitted to the upholstery in a balanced and controlled way. Such a contact layer 2220 may be glued to a surface of the upholstery facing towards the low frequency speaker 30, for example. In some cases the contact layer 2220 may simply be used in order to bridge a gap between the low frequency speaker 30 and the upholstery. The contact layer 2220 and the upholstery may be soft such that the low frequency speaker 30, as it vibrates, may be pressed into the contact layer 2220 (low frequency speaker indirectly adjoins upholstery) or into the upholstery (low frequency speaker directly adjoins upholstery) to a certain degree. This is schematically illustrated in Figures 5A, 5B,and 5C, for example, wherein Figure 5A illustrates the low frequency speaker 30 in a resting position (no vibrations), and Figures 5B and 5C schematically illustrate the low frequency speaker 30 as it vibrates back and forth (slightly pivoting about the bolts 2216). In Figures 5 A, 5B and 5C, the upholstery is indicated hatched (right side of figures). A slight pivoting movement of the rail 2214 about the bolt 2216 is indicated by means of an arrow. Similarly, the movement of the low frequency speaker 30 (vibrations) is indicated by means of an arrow.

Claims
CLAIMS1. A vehicle (10) comprises: a car seat (220) comprising a seating area (2204) and a backrest (2202), wherein the seating area (2204) is arranged at a lower end of the backrest (2202); and a low frequency speaker (30) configured to emit sound at frequencies of between 20Hz and 200Hz, wherein the low frequency speaker (30) is arranged in the backrest (2202) at a first position, wherein the first position is arranged in a lower half (h2202 / 2) towards the lower end of the backrest (2202), and the low frequency speaker (30) is arranged on a backside of the backrest (2202) that faces away from the seating area (2204).
2. The vehicle (10) of claim 1, wherein the first position is arranged in a lower third (h2202 / 3) towards the lower end of the backrest (2202).
3. The vehicle (10) of claim 1 or 2, wherein the first position is arranged directly adjacent to a lower end of the backrest (2202).
4. The vehicle (10) of any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the low frequency speaker (30) comprises a loudspeaker enclosure.
5. The vehicle (10) of claim 4, wherein the loudspeaker enclosure is integrated in the backrest(2202).
6. The vehicle (10) of any of the preceding claims, wherein the low frequency speaker (30) is arranged centrally in the backrest (2202) in a horizontal direction (x), wherein the horizontal direction (x) is a direction parallel to a top surface of the seating area (2204), wherein a top surface of the seating area (2204) is a surface on which an occupant (24) of the vehicle (10) may be seated.

The vehicle (10) of any of the preceding claims, whereinthe car seat (220) comprises a frame covered by upholstery, wherein the frame and upholstery define the seating area (2204) and the backrest (2202); the low frequency speaker (30) is mounted to the frame by means of a bearing (2212), and at least a backside of the low frequency speaker (30) directly or indirectly adjoins the upholstery, wherein the backside of the low frequency speaker (30) is a side which faces towards an inside of the car seat (220).

The vehicle (10) of claim 7, wherein the bearing (2212) comprises a first bearing member comprising a first bolt (2216) and a first rail (2214), the first rail comprising a counterpart, and the first bolt (2216) being inserted into the counterpart such that the first rail (2214) is rigidly attached to or may pivot about the first bolt (2216), and a second bearing member comprising a second bolt (2216) and a second rail (2214), the second rail comprising a counterpart, and the second bolt (2216) being inserted into the counterpart such that the second rail (2214) is rigidly attached to or may pivot about the second bolt (2216).
9. The vehicle (10) of claim 8, wherein the low frequency speaker (30) comprises a loudspeaker enclosure, and the first rail (2214) is attached to the loudspeaker enclosure and extends from the loudspeaker enclosure towards a first side, and the second rail (2214) is attached to the loudspeaker enclosure and extends from the loudspeaker enclosure towards a second side, opposite the first side.
10. The vehicle (10) of claim 9, wherein the first rail and the second rail (2214) are attached to an upper side of the loudspeaker enclosure, wherein the upper side is a side facing towards an upper end of the backrest (2202) opposite the lower end of the backrest (2202).

The vehicle (10) of any of claims 7 to 10, further comprising a contact layer (2220) arranged between the backside of the low frequency speaker (30) and the upholstery, wherein the contact layer (2220) directly adjoins the low frequency speaker (30) and the upholstery such that it transmits vibrations from the low frequency speaker (30) to the upholstery.
12. The vehicle (10) of any of the preceding claims, wherein the car seat (220) is a driver’s seat.

The vehicle (10) of claim 12, further comprising: a front passenger seat (222) comprising a seating area and a backrest, wherein the seating area is arranged at a lower end of the backrest; and a second low frequency speaker (32) configured to emit sound at frequencies of between 20Hz and 200Hz, wherein the second low frequency speaker (32) is arranged in the backrest at a second position, wherein the second position is arranged in a lower half towards the lower end of the backrest, and the second low frequency speaker (32) is arranged on a backside of the backrest that faces away from the seating area.
14. A car seat (220) comprises a seating area (2204); a backrest (2202); and a low frequency speaker (30), wherein the seating area (2204) is arranged at a lower end of the backrest (2202), the low frequency speaker (30) is arranged in the backrest (2202) at a first position, wherein the first position is arranged in a lower half (h2202 / 2) towards the lower end of the backrest (2202), and the low frequency speaker (30) is arranged on a backside of the backrest (2202) that faces away from the seating area (2204).

The car seat (220) of claim 14, wherein the car seat (220) comprises a frame covered by upholstery, wherein the frame and upholstery define the seating area (2204) and the backrest (2202); the low frequency speaker (30) is mounted to the frame by means of a bearing (2212), and at least a backside of the low frequency speaker (30) directly or indirectly adjoins the upholstery, wherein the backside of the low frequency speaker (30) is a side which facestowards an inside of the car seat (220).
