AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing control signaling for cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) and discontinuous reception (DRX) in wireless communication systems is inadequate for multi-cell or multi-transmission and reception point (TRP) environments, leading to ambiguity in configuring DTX/DRX parameters across multiple cells or TRPs.

Method used

The proposed solution involves a method for wireless communication where a network entity configures and communicates cell DTX/DRX settings to a user equipment (UE) using control signaling that specifies configurations for multiple cells or TRPs, allowing for different DTX/DRX parameters to be applied to each cell or TRP. This is achieved through the use of physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs), Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling, and Medium Access Control (MAC) Control Elements (MAC CE).

Benefits of technology

This approach enables efficient power management by allowing network entities to reduce power consumption through optimized DTX/DRX configurations across multiple cells or TRPs, while also improving spectrum efficiency and reducing ambiguity in UE behavior during DTX/DRX inactive times.

Abstract

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) or cell discontinuous reception DRX (collectively, "cell DTX / DRX" ) when a network entity (120) has multiple cells or multiple transmission and reception points (TRPs) (122A, 122B) for communication to a user equipment (UE) (110). The network entity transmits cell DTX / DRX configuration (104) to the UE by downlink control information (DCI) on one or more physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) or by a media access control (MAC) layer message or by radio resource control (RRC) signaling or combination thereof. In some aspects, the cell DTX / DRX configuration is specific to each cell or each TRP. Alternatively, the network entity can communicate a common cell DTX / DRX configuration for multiple cells or TRPs. The UE communicates (109) with the multiple cells or TRPs based on cell DTX / DRX configuration.

Description

CONTROL SIGNALING FOR CELL DISCONTINUOUS TRANSMISSION AND RECEPTIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communication and, in some aspects, to control signaling for cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) and discontinuous reception (DRX) used with multiple cells or transmission and reception points (TRPs) of a network entity.BACKGROUND

[0002] Discontinuous transmission (DTX) and discontinuous reception (DRX) refer to features of a wireless communication system to reduce power consumption by alternating between periods of active and inactive radio transmission or reception. For example, after configuring DRX in a user equipment (UE) , the UE can periodically activate and deactivate its radio interface to monitor the radio frequency communications according to the DRX configuration. Such UE-specific DRX can help to reduce power consumption by the UE.

[0003] More recent wireless communication technology enables a network entity (such as a base station) to implement DRX and DTX. Cell DTX and / or cell DRX (sometimes referred to as DTX for cell and DRX for cell, or collectively as cell DTX / DRX) is feature for a network entity to configure active and inactive periods for the network entity to transmit or receive radio frequency communications. For example, after configuring cell DTX / DRX, a base station does not perform downlink transmission for some downlink signals during the cell DTX inactive time and does not perform uplink reception for some uplink signals during the cell DRX inactive time.

[0004] In some network deployments, it is possible for a network entity to communicate with a UE using multiple transmission and reception points (TRPs) . Multi TRP is a feature that enables a network entity to communicate with a UE using more than one TRP. In a multi-TRP environment, a network entity may have multiple TRPs located at different geographic locations within a cell. Alternatively, or additionally, the network entity may operate multiple cells and communicate with the UE using TRPs from different cells. Depending on the network entity implementation, each TRP might communicate a separate physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) or one TRP might communicate a common PDCCH with control signaling related to multiple TRPs or multiple cells.

[0026] The following description is directed to certain implementations for the purpose of describing the innovative aspects of this disclosure. However, a person having ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the teachings herein can be applied in a multitude of different ways. Some of the examples in this disclosure are based on wireless communication according to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) wireless standards, such as the 5th generation (5G) New Radio (NR) standards. However, the described implementations can be implemented in any device, system, or network that is capable of transmitting and receiving radio frequency signals according to any of the wireless communication standards that are used to communicate within a wireless, cellular, or internet of things (IOT) network, such as a system utilizing 3G, 4G, 5G, WiFi, or future radio technology.

[0027] This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses for cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) or cell discontinuous reception DRX (referred collectively, as cell DTX / DRX) when a network entity configures multiple cells or multiple transmission and reception points  (TRPs) for communication with a user equipment (UE) . The network entity may provide a configuration for cell DTX / DRX (referred to as cell DTX / DRX configuration) to indicate the cell DTX and / or cell DRX parameters for multiple cells or multiple TRPs. A configuration for cell DTX / DRX can include a first cell DTX / DRX configuration for a first cell or first TRP and a second cell DTX / DRX configuration for a second cell or second TRP. The first cell DTX / DRX configuration can be same as or different from the second cell DTX / DRX configuration. The network entity may not perform downlink transmission for some downlink signals at a particular TRP / cell during the DTX inactive time of that TRP / cell, and the network entity may not perform uplink reception for some uplink signals at particular TRP / cell during the cell DRX inactive time of that TRP / cell.

[0028] Using the techniques of this disclosure, a network entity can provide the cell DTX / DRX configuration to inform the UE regarding cell DTX / DRX of multiple cells or TRPs (including possibly different configurations for different cells or TRPs) . The network entity can transmit the cell DTX / DRX configuration to the UE by downlink control information (DCI) on one or more physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) or by a media access control (MAC) layer message. In some aspects of this disclosure, the network entity can signal cell DTX / DRX configuration with parameters that are specific to each cell or each TRP. In some aspects, a network entity can communicate a common cell DTX / DRX configuration for multiple cells or TRPs. The UE can determine the cell DTX / DRX configuration of multiple cells or TRPs based on the control signaling. The UE can manage downlink monitoring and uplink transmission according to the cell DTX / DRX configuration for each cell or TRP. This disclosure describes UE behavior when one or more signals are fully or partially within the DTX / DRX inactive time of a particular cell or TRP.

[0029] For cell DTX / DRX, the network entity may transmit the control signaling in a group-cast manner. For instance, the network entity may transmit a group-cast DCI (e.g., group common DCI) indicating the cell DTX / DRX based on a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) configured by the network entity for a group of UEs. Alternatively, or additionally, the network entity may transmit a dedicated DCI indicating the cell DTX / DRX for a specific UE. For a network entity using multiple transmission and reception points (TRPs) , the different TRPs may or may not correspond to different cells. Traditional control signaling for cell DTX / DRX does not contemplate multiple cells or multiple TRPs and therefore is inadequate to provide the cell DTX / DRX configurations in multi-TRP mode. Similarly, it can be difficult for the UE to determine which downlink or uplink signals the UE should refrain from receiving or transmitting during the DTX / DRX inactive time, such as when the downlink or uplink signals from one cell or TRP is fully or partially within the DTX / DRX inactive time of another cell or TRP. To address these  issues, the specification describes control signaling and cell DTX / DRX operation for a multi-cell or multi-TRP environment. In some aspects, the control signaling includes DTX / DRX configuration for multi-TRP operation. Aspects of this disclosure describe UE behavior for the downlink / uplink signal reception / transmission when the signal is fully or partially within the DTX / DRX inactive time.

[0030] In one example approach, the UE receives control signaling including configuration of cell DTX or cell DRX for at least one of a first and second cell or at least one of a first and second transmission and reception point (TRP) . The UE then configures at least one of a cell DTX or a cell DRX at the UE for at least one of a first and second cell or a first and second TRP based on the control signaling. The network entity may communicate the control signaling by one or more of DCI on one or more PDCCHs, by Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling (e.g., RRCReconfiguration) , or by Medium Access Control (MAC) Control Element (MAC CE) .

[0031] This disclosure includes various mechanisms for a network entity to communicate cell DTX / DRX configurations of multiple cells or multiple TRPs. In one example approach, multiple TRPs transmit different PDCCHs to the UE. The PDCCHs can be placed in different search spaces and different control resource sets (CORESETs) . The network entity can transmit the cell DTX / DRX configuration for a particular cell or TRP in the search space associated with the PDCCH that is also associated with the particular cell or TRP. In some implementations, the network entity can configure a CORESET pool index for a CORESET. The network entity can indicate a transmission configuration indication (TCI) state for a CORESET. In the TCI state, the network entity can indicate a downlink reference signal that is quasi-co-located with a synchronization signal block (SSB) from a cell with the physical cell identifier (PCI) configured by the network entity. In some aspects, a different control resource set (CORESET) pool index or different physical cell identifier (PCI) can be associated with each cell or TRP so that the cell DTX / DRX configuration of a particular cell or TRP can be identified by the CORESET pool index or PCI. In some aspects, the network entity can transmit different cell DTX / DRX configurations for each cell or TRP by associating the UE to dedicated RNTIs for each cell or TRP. In some implementations, the network entity can configure associated CORESET pool indexes or PCIs for each configured RNTI.

[0032] In some example approaches, the network entity communicates the cell DTX / DRX configuration using DCI signaling on one or more PDCCHs. The network entity can provide a cell DRX or cell DTX configuration associated with a particular cell or TRP (referred to as target cell, target TRP, collectively as target TRP / cell) . The target TRP / cell can be identified in the DCI using a target TRP index, which can be related to a CORESET pool index. Alternatively, or additionally, the target TRP / cell can be identified by a PCI (such as configured by RRC signaling)  or by the location of the PDCCH (such as the starting control channel element (CCE) index) . In some aspects, the DCI can include one or more common DCI fields that are applicable to multiple cells or TRPs. Alternatively, or additionally, one or more DCI fields are specific to a particular cell or TRP. In some aspects, the network entity can indicate whether the cell DTX / DRX configuration is common for all cells / TRPs or whether the cell DTX / DRX configuration is cell-specific or TRP-specific.

[0033] In some implementations, the UE reports its capability to support cell DTX / DRX configuration for multi-TRP operation. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE can report the supported configurations or signaling capabilities for the cell DTX / DRX configuration. For example, the UE may report whether it supports cell DTX, cell DRX, or both. The UE may report the UE capability indicating the supported impacted channels for DTX / DRX inactive time. Based on the UE capability, the network entity may configure at least one of the parameters for cell DTX or cell DRX.

[0034] Particular implementations of the subject matter described in this disclosure may be implemented to realize one or more of the following potential advantages. A network entity that uses multiple cells or TRPs to communicate with a UE while also implementing cell DTX / DRX, which can reduce the network and UE power consumption. A UE can obtain cell DTX / DRX configuration for multiple cells or TRPs such that the cells or TRPs can have different DTX and DRX configurations. Furthermore, the control signaling can reduce or eliminate ambiguity regarding the cell DTX / DRX configuration for a network entity using multiple cells or TRPs to communicate with a UE or group of UEs. Absent the techniques of this disclosure, a UE might apply a common cell DTX / DRX to multiple cells or TRPs while the network entity might intend different cell DTX / DRX. The disclosed techniques enable the network entity and UE to configure the multi-TRP operation and cell DTX / DRX concurrently. By coordinating cell DTX / DRX and multiple TRP operation, the wireless communication system can increase the spectrum efficiency, reduce network power consumption, or both. Various techniques for control signaling included DCI, RRC, or MAC CE, each of which have different potential technical advantages. For example, DCI signaling on one or more PDCCHs can improve coordination of cell DTX / DRX configuration at a physical layer. RRC signaling or MAC CE signaling can improve coordination of indexes or other parameters to reduce the amount of DCI control signaling used to communicate different cell DTX / DRX configurations.

[0035] Figure 1 illustrates an example UE communicating with multiple transmission and reception points (TRPs) and a network entity. In the example approach shown in Figure 1, wireless communication system 100 includes a user equipment 110 communicating with a network entity 120 via TRPs 122A and 122B (collectively TRPs 122) . In the example shown in Figure 1, wireless  communication system 100 includes a UE 110 that wirelessly communicates with network entity 120 via TRPs 122A and 122B in an M-TRP mode of operation. Although illustrated as a smartphone in Figure 1, the UE 110 may be implemented as any suitable computing or electronic device, such as a mobile communication device, a modem, cellular phone, gaming device, navigation device, media device, laptop computer, desktop computer, tablet computer, smart appliance, vehicle-based communication system, an Internet-of-things (IoT) device (e.g., sensor node, controller / actuator node, combination thereof) , and the like. Network entity 120 (e.g., base station, an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network Node B, E-UTRAN Node B, evolved Node B, eNodeB, eNB, Next Generation Node B, gNodeB, gNB, ng-eNB, access point, radio head or the like) may be implemented in a macrocell, microcell, small cell, picocell, or the like, or any combination thereof. The network entity 120 can be configured to use MIMO communication in which multiple TRPs (such as TRPs 122A and 122B) associated with the network entity 120 are used to receive wireless communication signals from the UE 110.

[0036] In some aspects, the functionality, and thus the hardware components, of the network entity 120 may be distributed across multiple network nodes or devices and may be distributed in a manner to perform the functions described herein. As one example, the functionality of network entity 120 may be distributed across a radio unit (RU) , distributed unit (DU) , or central unit (CU) .

[0037] The UE 110 may communicate with network entity 120 and TRPs 122A and 122B using wireless links (not shown in Figure 1) , which may be implemented as any suitable type of wireless link. The wireless links can carry control communications, data communications, or both control and data communications. The data path through which the wireless links carry control and communication data from the network entity 120 or a TRP 122 to the UE can be referred to as a downlink (DL) channel 114. The data path through which the wireless links carry control and communication data from the UE 110 to the network entity 120 or TRP 122 can be referred to as the uplink (UL) channel 112.

[0038] The wireless links may include one or more wireless links (e.g., radio links) or bearers implemented using any suitable communication protocol or standard, or combination of communication protocols or standards, such as 3rd Generation Partnership Project Long-Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) , Fifth Generation New Radio (5G NR) , and so forth. Multiple wireless links may be aggregated in a carrier aggregation to provide a higher data rate for the UE 110.

[0039] The network entity 120 and TRPs 122A and 122B support wireless communication with one or more UEs, such as UE 110, via radio frequency (RF) signaling using one or more applicable radio access technologies (RATs) as specified by one or more communications protocols or standards. The network entity 120 and the TRPs 122A and 122B may employ any of a variety of RATs, such as operating as a NodeB (or base transceiver station (BTS) ) for a Universal  Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) RAT (also known as “3G” ) , operating as an enhanced NodeB ( “eNB” ) for a Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) RAT, operating as a 5G node B ( “gNB” ) for a 3GPP Fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) RAT, and the like.

[0040] The network entity 120 and TRPs 122A and 122B may be part of a radio access network (RAN) , for example, an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network, E-UTRAN, 5G NR RAN, or NR RAN. The network entity 120 can be connected to a core network 150. For example, the network entity 120 can connect to the core network 150 through an NG2 interface for control-plane signaling and using an NG3 interface for user-plane data communications when connecting to a 5G core network or using an Si interface for control-plane signaling and user-plane data communications when connecting to an Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network. The network entity 120 may communicate using an Xn Application Protocol (XnAP) through an Xn interface or using an X2 Application Protocol (X2AP) through an X2 interface to exchange user-plane and control-plane data. The UE 110 may connect, via the core network 150, to one or more wide area networks (WANs) 160 or other packet data networks (PDNs) , such as the Internet.

[0041] Communications between network entity 120 and UE 110 utilize UL channel 112 for RF transmissions from the UE 110 to the network entity 120 and DL channel 114 for RF transmissions from the network entity 120 to the UE 110. As such, in the context of the UL channel 112, the UE 110 serves as the data sending device and the network entity 120 serves as the data receiving device, whereas in the context of the DL channel 114, the network entity 120 serves as the data sending device and the UE 110 serves as the data receiving device. UL channel 112 and DL channel 114 may utilize multiple communications channels for signal transmission. The multiple channels may each have different purposes.

[0042] UL channel 112 may include a Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) , a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) , and a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) . The PUSCH is used for the transmission of user data, such as voice data, video data, or text message data from UE 110 to network entity 120. Additionally, the PUSCH may be used to transmit control information (e.g., Uplink Control Information (UCI) ) . The PUSCH may be shared by multiple UEs 110. The PUCCH is used for transmitting control information (e.g., UCI) from the UE to the network, such as channel quality feedback, scheduling requests, and acknowledgments. The PRACH is used for random access in the uplink direction, enabling the UE to access the system.

[0043] DL channel 114 may include one or more of a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) , a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) , a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) , or a paging channel. The PDSCH is used for transmission of user data from the base  station to the UE. The PDSCH may be shared by multiple UEs 110. As with the PUSCH, the data may be any type of information, such as voice data, video data, or text message data. The paging channel is used to notify the UE 110 that there is incoming traffic for it from the network entity 120.

[0044] UE 110 and network entity 120 can use channel state information (CSI) to optimize the quality of communications between the UE 110 and network entity 120 or a TRP. The network entity 120 can provide a CSI report configuration to the UE 110 to use for reporting the CSI to the network entity 120. For a CSI report, the UE may report at least one of rank indicator (RI) , precoder matrix indicator (PMI) , channel quality indicator (CQI) , and layer indicator (LI) . RI and PMI may be used to indicate the digital precoder, CQI may be used to indicate the signal-to-interference plus noise (SINR) status to assist the network entity 120 to determine the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) , and LI may be used to identify the strongest layer for the reported precoder indicated by RI and PMI.

[0045] In the example illustrated in Figure 1, network entity 120 can be coupled to TRPs 122A and 122B via respective backhaul networks 130A and 130B. Backhaul networks 130A and 130B may be, for example, high performance networks such as fiber optic networks. In one example approach, network entity 120 can configure UE 110 for coherent joint transmission from TRPs 122A and 122B. In coherent joint transmission, the UE receives downlink signals from multiple TRPs (e.g., TRPs 122A and 122B) with antenna combining.

[0046] In one example approach, as shown in Figure 1, the UE 110 receives, from the network entity 120 via one or more TRPs 122, a configuration 104 for a cell DTX / DRX associated with at least one of a first and second cell or a first and second transmission and reception point (TRP) . The UE 110 then communicates with the network entity 120 based on the configuration for the cell DTX / DRX. In one such example approach, the UE 110 receives the configuration by receiving, via downlink channel 114, a PDCCH and control signaling associated with the PDCCH.

[0047] In some implementations, the UE reports its capability on the supported configurations for the cell DTX / DRX via uplink channel 112. For example, the UE may report whether it supports cell DTX and / or cell DRX. The UE may report the UE capability indicating the supported impacted channels for DTX / DRX inactive time. Based on the UE capability, the network entity may configure at least one of the parameters for cell DTX or cell DRX as discussed below.

[0048] Further details of various techniques and aspects of disclosure are provided below with reference to Figures 2-11.

[0049] Figure 2 is a block diagram illustrating example configurations of a network entity 120 and a UE 110. Note that the depicted hardware configurations represent the processing components and communication components related to the UE 110 receiving, from the network entity 120, a  configuration for cell DTX / DRX associated with at least one of a first and second cell or a first and second transmission and reception point (TRP) . The depicted hardware configurations may omit certain components well-understood to be frequently implemented in such electronic devices, such as displays, peripherals, power supplies, and the like.

[0050] The UE 110 includes antennas, a radio frequency front end (RF front end) 204, and radio-frequency transceivers (e.g., an LTE transceiver 206 and a 5G NR transceiver 208) for communicating with network entity 120 and / or one or more TRPs (e.g., TRPs 122A and 122B of Figure 1.

[0051] The RF front end 204 includes one or more modems configured for the corresponding RAT(s) employed (for example, Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Fifth Generation New Radio (5G NR) ) , one or more analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) , one or more digital-to-analog converters (DACs) , signal processors, and the like. In the example illustrated in Figure 2, the RF front end 204 of the UE 110 can couple or connect the LTE transceiver 206 and the 5G NR transceiver 208 to the antennas 202 to facilitate various types of wireless communication. The RF front end 204 operates, in effect, as a physical (PHY) transceiver interface to conduct and process signaling between the one or more processors 214 and the antennas 202 to facilitate various types of wireless communication.

[0055] Turning to the hardware configuration of the network entity 120, it is noted that although Figure 2 illustrates an implementation of the network entity 120 as a single network node (for example, a 5G NR Node B, or “gNB” ) , the functionality, and thus the hardware components, of the network entity 120 instead may be distributed across multiple network nodes or devices and may be distributed in a manner to perform the functions described herein. As one example, the functionality of network entity 120 may be distributed across a radio unit (RU) , distributed unit (DU) , or central unit (CU) .

[0056] The network entity 120 includes antennas 252, a radio frequency front end (RF front end) 254, one or more LTE transceivers 256, and / or one or more 5G NR transceivers 258 for communicating with the UE 110. The RF front end 254 of the network entity 120 may couple or connect the LTE transceivers 256 and the 5G NR transceivers 258 to the antennas 252 to facilitate various types of wireless communication. Like RF front end 204, the RF front end 254 includes one or more modems, one or more ADCs, one or more DACs, and the like. RF front end 254 receives the one or more RF signals, for example, RF signals from UE 110, and pre-processes the one or more RF signals to generate data from the RF signals that is provided as input to processes and / or applications executing on network entity 120. This pre-processing may include, for example, power amplification, conversion of band-pass signaling to baseband signaling, initial analog-to-digital conversion, and the like.

[0057] The antennas 252 of the network entity 120 may be configured individually and / or as one or more arrays of multiple antennas. The antennas 252 and the RF front end 254 may be tuned to, and / or be tunable to, one or more frequency band defined by the 3GPP LTE and 5G NR  communication standards, and implemented by the LTE transceivers 256, and / or the 5G NR transceivers 258. Additionally, the antennas 252, the RF front end 254, the LTE transceivers 256, and / or the 5G NR transceivers 258 may be configured to support beamforming, such as Massive-MIMO, for the transmission and reception of communications with any UE 110.

[0061] CRM 262 further includes a base station manager 266. Alternately or additionally, the base station manager 266 may be implemented in whole or part as hardware logic or circuitry  integrated with or separate from other components of the network entity 120. In at least some aspects, the base station manager 266 configures the LTE transceivers 256 and the 5G NR transceivers 258 for communication with the UE 110, as well as communication with a core network 150 (Figure 1) .

[0062] In some aspects, the network entity 120 includes an inter-base station interface 268, such as an Xn and / or X2 interface, which the base station manager 266 configures to exchange user-plane and control-plane data between another network entity 120, to manage the communication of the network entity 120 with the UE 110. The network entity 120 includes a core network interface 270 that the base station manager 266 configures to exchange user-plane and control-plane data with core network 150.

[0063] Figures 3A-3D illustrate example techniques for a network entity to configure cell DTX / DRX on a UE communicating with multiple cells or multiple TRPs. In the example 300 shown in Figure 3A, the network entity configures dedicated search space for cell DTX / DRX configuration for each TRP or cell. The network entity may provide the configuration for the search space for each TRP or cell by RRC or MAC CE signaling. The network entity transmits the PDCCH in the search space to indicate the DTX / DRX status for the corresponding TRP or cell. In the example shown in Figure 3A, TRP / cell 1 (322A) places the first group-common PDCCH (e.g., first group-common DCI) in the first search space while TRP / cell 2 (322B) places the second group-common PDCCH (e.g., second group-common DCI) in the second search space. DCI on the first PDCCH is used to configure DTX / DRX for TRP / cell 1 while DCI on the second PDCCH is used to configure DTX / DRX for TRP / cell 2. In one example approach, the DCI on the first PDCCH indicates the DTX / DRX active time 316 and the DTX / DRX inactive time 317 for TRP / cell 1 while the DCI on the second PDCCH indicates the DTX / DRX active time 316 and the DTX / DRX inactive time 317 for TRP / cell 2.

[0064] In one example, the network entity may use a control resource set (CORESET) configured with different CORESET pool indexes to configure the search spaces for DTX / DRX indication. The cell DTX / DRX configuration is then indicated by the DCI on the PDCCH in the search space with the appropriate CORESET pool index. In the example shown in Figure 3A, the first CORESET pool index is associated with a first search space, while a second CORESET pool index is associated with the second search space. TRP / cell 1 (322A) places a first group-common PDCCH in the first search space while TRP / cell 2 (322B) places the second group-common PDCCH in the second search space. DCI on the first PDCCH is then used to configure DTX / DRX for TRP / cell 1 while DCI on the second PDCCH is used to configure DTX / DRX for TRP / cell 2.

[0065] In another example, the network entity may configure the information for the associated physical cell identifier (PCI) for each search space for DTX / DRX indication. Then the  DTX / DRX configuration indicated by the DCI on the PDCCH in the search space of the appropriate PCI is applied for all channels associated with the same PCI, e.g., the channel configured or indicated with a transmission configuration indication (TCI) state with source reference signal from or quasi-co-located with an SSB from the same PCI.

[0066] In another example, the network entity may configure the search spaces for DTX / DRX indication associated with the CORESET, with configured or indicated TCI state associated with different PCIs. The cell DTX / DRX configuration is then indicated by DCI on the PDCCH in the search space applied for the channels associated with the same PCI.

[0067] In the example 320 shown in Figure 3B, the network entity configures dedicated RNTI for cell DTX / DRX indication for each TRP or cell. The network entity may provide the configuration by RRC or MAC CE signaling. The network entity transmits the PDCCH based on the configured RNTI to indicate the DTX / DRX status for the corresponding TRP or cell. The network entity configures the association between the RNTI and the TRP or PCI (e.g., cell) . In the example shown in Figure 3B, a first RNTI is associated with a first search space while a second RNTI is associated with a second search space. TRP / cell 1 (322A) places a first group-common PDCCH in the first search space based on the first RNTI while TRP / cell 2 (322B) places a second group-common PDCCH in the second search space based on the second RNTI. DCI on the first PDCCH is then used to configure DTX / DRX for TRP / cell 1 while DCI on the second PDCCH is used to configure DTX / DRX for TRP / cell 2.

[0068] In one example of the technique of Figure 3B, the network entity 120 may configure the associated CORESET pool index for each configured RNTI for cell DTX / DRX indication. In another example, the network entity may configure the associated PCI for each configured RNTI for cell DTX / DRX indication. In another example, the association between the RNTI and CORESET pool index may be predefined (e.g., the first configured RNTI corresponds to the first CORESET pool index and the second configured RNTI corresponds to the second CORESET pool index) . In another example, the association between the RNTI and PCI may be predefined (e.g., the first configured RNTI corresponds to the PCI of the serving cell, and the second configured RNTI corresponds to the first configured additional PCI) .

[0069] The network entity the network entity may also indicate the target TRP (s) or cell (s) for the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX configuration by the PDCCH. Figure 3C illustrates one such example 340 for the target cell indication by the PDCCH for DTX / DRX indication. In the example shown in Figure 3C, each PDCCH includes a target TRP. In one example, the network entity  indicates whether the target TRP is the first TRP or the second TRP. In another example, the network entity indicates whether the target TRP is the first, second, or both TRPs. In another example approach, TRPs are selected based on target TRP indexes (e.g., CORESET pool indexes) .

[0070] In one example approach, DCI on the first PDCCH indicates the TRP / cell 1 (322A) as the target TRP while DCI on the second PDCCH indicates the TRP / cell 2 (322B) as the target TRP. In one such example approach, the DCI on the first PDCCH indicates the DTX / DRX active time 316 and the DTX / DRX inactive time 317 for TRP / cell 1 while the DCI on the second PDCCH indicates the DTX / DRX active time 316 and the DTX / DRX inactive time 317 for TRP / cell 2. In one example approach, DCI on the first PDCCH or the second PDCCH indicates both the TRP / cell 1 and TRP / cell 2 as the target TRPs and the TRPs / cells are configured with the same cell DTX / DRX configuration.

[0071] In other example approaches, the network entity indicates the information on the target PCI(s) by the PDCCH. The network entity may configure a list of N additional PCIs by RRC or MAC CE signaling. The network entity indicates at least one of the PCIs from the serving cell PCI and configured additional PCIs by the PDCCH. In one example, the network entity indicates the target PCI based on a ceil (log2 (N+1) ) bits field in the PDCCH. In another example, the network entity indicates one or more target PCIs based on a N+1 bits bitmap in the PDCCH, where each bit corresponds to a PCI and the first or last bit may correspond to the serving cell PCI.

[0072] In other example approaches, the network entity indicates the target TRP / cell index based on the location of the PDCCH. In one such example approach, the starting control channel element (CCE) index for the PDCCH may be used. In one example, if the starting CCE index is odd, the target TRP / cell is the first TRP or the serving cell; otherwise, the target TRP / cell is the second TRP or the additional PCI configured in the active TCI states.

[0073] In other example approaches, the network entity provides common DTX / DRX configuration for the target TRP (s) or cell (s) by common DCI fields for a PDCCH. In other example approaches, the network entity provides aggregate cell DTX / DRX configuration for multiple cells or multiple TRPs. In one example, the network entity provides separate DTX / DRX configuration (s) for the target TRP (s) or cell (s) by different DCI fields for a PDCCH. For example, an aggregate cell DTX / DRX configuration may be a combination of first cell DTX / DRX configuration for a first cell / TRP and a second cell DTX / DRX configuration for a second cell / TRP.

[0074] In the example 360 shown in Figure 3D, the network entity indicates common cell DTX / DRX for all the TRPs or cells by DCI on a PDCCH. The configured or indicated cell DTX / DRX in the PDCCH is applied to all the configured TRPs or cells, using, for example, CORESET pool indexes or PCIs. In one example approach, the DCI on the first PDCCH indicates  the DTX / DRX active time 316 and the DTX / DRX inactive time 317 for both TRP / cell 1 (322A) and TRP / cell 2 (322B) .

[0075] In one example approach, the network entity configures the DTX / DRX indication scheme for multi-TRP operation. In some implementations, the network entity configures whether the DTX / DRX indication is for common TRPs / cells or for a specific TRP / cell. For specific TRP / cell DTX / DRX indication, one of the approaches associated with Figures 3A-3C can be predefined or configured by the network entity via RRC or MAC CE signaling. For common TRP / cell DTX / DRX indication, one of the approaches associated with Figure 3D may be used.

[0076] In some example approaches, the UE may report the UE capability indicating the supported cell DTX / DRX indication scheme for multi-TRP operation. The UE may report whether it supports common or TRP / cell DTX / DRX configuration. The UE may also report whether it supports cell DTX / DRX configuration for multi-TRP schemes. In some implementations, the network entity may refrain from configuring the cell DTX / DRX and multi-TRP operation in a bandwidth part or a serving cell.

[0077] Figure 4 is a timing diagram 400 illustrating communication between a network entity and a UE. At operation 402, the UE 110 may transmit or report the UE’s capability (s) for supported configurations for cell DTX / DRX. At operation 404, the network entity 120 may transmit to the UE 110, a cell DTX / DRX configuration associated with at least one of a first and second cell or a first and second transmission and reception point (TRP) . In the example shown in Figure 4, operation 404 may include the network entity transmitting (405) a control signal configuring at least one parameter for cell DTX / DRX and transmitting (406) additional configuration information by DCI on a PDCCH (e.g., dedicated DCI or group common DCI) . As noted above, the control signal may include an RRC signal, a MAC CE signal, or a DCI.

[0078] In one such example approach, the PDCCH may be detected based on an associated RNTI as noted above in the discussion of Figure 3B. Any of the other techniques described in the context of Figures 3A-3D may be used to obtain the DTX / DRX configuration from the PDCCH. If configured, an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgement (NACK) may be transmitted (408) from UE 110 to network entity 120, as described below. In some example approaches, an ACK is transmitted when UE 110 properly decodes the configuration for the cell DTX / DRX (e.g., the PDCCH that carries the cell DTX / DRX indication) , while a NACK is transmitted otherwise. In one example approach, UE 110 communicates (409) with the network entity based on the cell DTX / DRX configuration. In some such example approaches, the communications include transmitting uplink signals / channels or receiving downlink signals / channels that overlap with DTX / DRX inactive time 317.

[0079] Figure 5 illustrates an example 500 in which a downlink or uplink signal is fully or partially within the DTX / DRX inactive time 317. As noted above, during the DTX / DRX inactive time 317, it can be difficult to determine which downlink channels or signals (downlink channels / signals) 115 or uplink channels or signals (uplink channels / signals) 113 the UE should refrain from receiving or transmitting, respectively. The downlink or uplink channels / signals may be fully (582) within the DTX / DRX inactive time 317 or may partially overlap (584) with the DTX / DRX inactive time 317, as shown in Figure 5.

[0080] In one example approach, the UE 110 may refrain from transmitting at least one of the following uplink channels / signals 113 associated with the target TRP (s)  / cell (s) during the cell DRX inactive time:

[0081] - Periodic Channel State Information (CSI) report,

[0082] - Semi-persistent CSI report,

[0083] - Periodic Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) for codebook / non-codebook / beam management / antenna switching / positioning,

[0084] - Semi-persistent SRS for codebook / non-codebook / beam management / antenna switching / positioning,

[0085] - Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) with scheduling request (SR) other than beam failure recovery request (BFR) ,

[0086] - PUCCH with BFR,

[0087] - Configured-grant Physical Uplink Shared Channel (CG PUSCH) ,

[0088] - Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) for contention-free random access (CFRA) procedure, or

[0089] - PRACH for contention-based random access (CBRA) procedure.

[0090] In some example approaches, the uplink channels / signals 113 that the UE 110 should refrain from transmitting during overlapping or partially overlapping cases may be predefined. In some other implementations, the uplink channels / signals 113 that the UE should refrain from transmitting may be configured by RRC signaling or MAC CE signaling or by the DCI on the PDCCH used for cell DRX indication (e.g., the DCI field indicating impacted uplink channels during inactive time for cell DRX) .

[0091] In other example approaches, UE 110 may refrain from transmitting some of the uplink channels / signals 113 discussed above (e.g., periodic / semi-persistent CSI report or periodic / semi-persistent SRS) . Whether the UE can transmit some of or all the other uplink channels / signals 113 (e.g., PUCCH for SR, PUCCH for BFR, PRACH for CFRA / CBRA procedures) may be configured by RRC signaling or MAC CE or the DCI on the PDCCH used for cell DRX indication. For example, the DCI field that indicates impacted uplink channels / signals during inactive time for  cell DRX may be used. The impacted uplink channel / signal indicates the uplink channel / signal that UE should refrain from transmitting during cell DRX inactive time. In some other implementations, the UE may transmit the UE capability indicating the uplink channels / signals 113 that it supports transmitting or dropping during the cell DRX inactive time.

[0092] In one example approach, if an uplink channel / signal 113 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DRX inactive time 317, the UE refrains from transmitting the whole uplink channel / signal. In another example approach, if an uplink channel / signal 113 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DRX inactive time 317, the UE refrains from transmitting the overlapped portion of signal 584. In another example approach, if an uplink channel / signal 113 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DRX inactive time 317, the UE transmits the whole uplink channel / signal (overlapped portion 584 and non-overlapped portion 586) .

[0093] In another example approach, if an uplink channel / signal 113 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DRX inactive time 317, whether the UE transmits the non-overlapped portion 586 of the uplink channel / signal may be configured by the network entity via RRC signaling or the DCI on the PDCCH for cell DRX indication. In another example approach, if an uplink channel / signal 113 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DRX inactive time 317, whether the UE transmits the non-overlapped portion 586 and overlapped portion 584 of the uplink channel / signal may be configured by the network entity via RRC signaling or the DCI on the PDCCH for cell DRX indication.

[0094] In some other implementations, if an uplink channel / signal 113 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DRX inactive time, whether the UE transmits the non-overlapped portion 586 of the uplink channel / signal may be determined by whether the network entity can decode the non-overlapped portion 586 transmitted in DTX / DRX active time 316 independently. In one such example, if the non-overlapped portion 586 is a repetition of a PUCCH or PUSCH, the UE 110 transmits the PUCCH or PUSCH repetition; otherwise, the UE refrains from transmitting the PUCCH or PUSCH. In some other implementations, if an uplink channel / signal 113 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DRX inactive time, whether the UE transmits the non-overlapped portion 586 and the overlapped portion 584 of the uplink channel / signal may be determined by whether the network entity can decode the non-overlapped portion 586 transmitted in DTX / DRX active time 316 independently. In one such example, if the non-overlapped portion 586 is a repetition of a PUCCH or PUSCH, the UE 110 transmits the PUCCH or PUSCH repetition; otherwise, the UE transmits the whole PUCCH or PUSCH (overlapped portion 584 and non-overlapped portion 586) .

[0095] In another example approach, the UE may report the UE capability indicating whether it supports transmitting or dropping the non-overlapped portion 586 or overlapped portion 584 and non-overlapped portion 586 for the impacted uplink channels / signals 113.

[0096] In one example approach, the UE 110 may refrain from receiving at least one of the following downlink channels / signals 115 associated with the target TRP (s)  / cell (s) during the cell DTX inactive time:

[0097] - Periodic CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) for CSI report,

[0098] - Semi-persistent CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) for CSI report,

[0099] - CSI-RS for time-domain channel property (TDCP) report,

[0100] - CSI-RS for beam failure detection (BFD) ,

[0101] - CSI-RS for radio link monitoring (RLM) ,

[0102] - Periodic CSI-RS for tracking,

[0103] - PDCCH in UE-specific search space (USS) other than the search space configured for BFR,

[0104] - PDCCH in Type3 common search space (CSS) other than the search space configured for BFR,

[0105] - PDCCH in search space configured for BFR, or

[0106] - Positioning reference signal (PRS) .

[0107] In some example approaches, the downlink channels / signals 115 that the UE 110 may refrain from receiving may be predefined. In some other implementations, the downlink channels / signals 115 that the UE 110 may refrain from receiving may be configured by RRC signaling or MAC CE or the DCI on the PDCCH used for cell DTX indication (e.g., the DCI field indicating impacted downlink channels / signals during inactive time for cell DTX) . In some other implementations, UE may refrain from receiving some of the downlink channels / signals above (e.g., periodic / semi-persistent CSI-RS for CSI / TDCP report, PDCCH in USS / Type3 CSS other than the search space configured for BFR. Whether the UE 110 may receive some of or all the other downlink channels / signals (e.g., CSI-RS for BFD / RLM / tracking and PDCCH in search space configured for BFR) may be configured by RRC signaling, MAC CE signaling, or the PDCCH used for cell DTX indication (e.g., the DCI field on the PDCCH indicating impacted downlink channels / signals during inactive time 317 for cell DTX) . The impacted downlink channel / signal DCI field indicates the downlink channel / signal that UE may refrain from receiving during cell DTX inactive time. In some other implementations, the UE may transmit the UE capability indicating the downlink channels / signals that it supports receiving or dropping during the cell DTX inactive time.

[0108] In some example approaches, if a downlink channel / signal 115 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DTX inactive time, the UE refrains from receiving the whole downlink channel / signal (both portions 584 and 586 from Figure 5) .

[0109] In some example approaches, if a downlink channel / signal 115 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DTX inactive time, the UE receives the whole downlink channel / signal (both portions 584 and 586 from Figure 5) .

[0110] In some example approaches, if a downlink channel / signal 115 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DTX inactive time, the UE refrains from receiving the overlapped portion 584 of the downlink channel / signal only.

[0111] In some other implementations, if a downlink channel / signal 115 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DTX inactive time, whether the UE may receive the non-overlapped portion 586 of the downlink channel / signal may be configured by the network entity via RRC signaling or the PDCCH for cell DTX indication.

[0112] In some other implementations, if a downlink channel / signal 115 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DTX inactive time, whether the UE may receive the whole downlink channel / signal (both portions 584 and 586 from Figure 5) may be configured by the network entity via RRC signaling or the PDCCH for cell DTX indication.

[0113] In some other implementations, if a downlink channel / signal 115 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DTX inactive time, whether the UE should receive the non-overlapped portion 586 of the downlink channel / signal may be determined by whether the UE 110 can decode the non-overlapped portion 586 independently. In one example, if the non-overlapped portion 586 is a repetition of a PDCCH, the UE receives the PDCCH repetition; otherwise, the UE refrains from receiving the PDCCH.

[0114] In some other implementations, if a downlink channel / signal 115 is the impacted channel / signal and it partially overlaps with the cell DTX inactive time, whether the UE should receive the whole downlink channel / signal (both portions 584 and 586 from Figure 5) may be determined by whether the UE 110 can decode the non-overlapped portion 586 independently. In one example, if the non-overlapped portion 586 is a repetition of a PDCCH, the UE receives the PDCCH repetition; otherwise, the UE receives the whole downlink channel / signal (both portions 584 and 586 from Figure 5) .

[0115] In some example approaches, the UE 110 may report the UE capability indicating whether it supports receiving or dropping the non-overlapped portion 586 or the whole downlink channel / signal (both portions 584 and 586 from Figure 5) for the impacted downlink channels / signals 115.

[0116] Figure 6 illustrates an example control signaling 600 via a hybrid Radio Resource Control (RRC) and Downlink Control Information (DCI) based cell DTX / DRX configuration. In one example approach, the network entity 120 transmits (606) the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX indication by a common search space. Thus, the configured search space (s) for the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX indication is a common search space (e.g., a Type3 search space or a Type2x search space) .

[0117] In some example approaches, the network entity indicates at least one of the following information by the DCI on the PDCCH:

[0118] - serving cell index indicating the target serving cell index for the cell DTX / DRX operation,

[0119] - bandwidth part index indicating the target bandwidth part index for the cell DTX / DRX operation,

[0120] - information on PCI or TRP index (es) indicating the target cell or TRP index (es) for the cell DTX / DRX operation,

[0121] - (additional) impacted uplink channels / signals during inactive time for cell DRX,

[0122] - (additional) impacted downlink channels / signals during inactive time for cell DTX,

[0123] - duration of active time for cell DTX,

[0124] - duration of active time for cell DRX,

[0125] - cell DTX cycle indicating the periodicity for the active time for cell DTX,

[0126] - cell DRX cycle indicating the periodicity for the active time for cell DTX,

[0127] - offset between the last symbol or the last slot of the PDCCH and the first symbol or first slot of the first cell DTX active / inactive time, or

[0128] - offset between the last symbol or the last slot of the PDCCH and the first symbol or first slot of the first cell DRX active / inactive time.

[0129] In some other implementations, the network entity may configure a list of candidate cell DTX / DRX configurations (604A and 604B, respectively) by RRC signaling (e.g., RRCReconfiguration) , where each configuration may include a subset of or all of the parameters above. The network entity 120 indicates at least one of the configurations 604 in the DCI on the PDCCH by indicating a configuration ID 608 (or configuration index) . In the example shown in Figure 6, cell DTX configurations 1-4 provide DTX configurations 604A for configuration IDs 1-4 while cell DRX configurations 1-4 provide DRX configurations 604B for configuration IDs 1-4. In the example shown in Figure 6, the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX indication is transmitted with a cell DTX configuration ID of 2 and a cell DRX configuration ID of 3.

[0130] The network entity 120 may further indicate some other parameters, e.g., serving cell index, bandwidth part index, and / or information on PCI (s) or TRP index (es) , or in the DCI on the PDCCH. In some example approaches, one cell DTX / DRX configuration ID may indicate the cell DTX / DRX is disabled. In some other example approaches, one DCI field may indicate whether the DCI is used for activation or deactivation of a cell DTX / DRX. In some other example approaches, the network entity may configure two RNTIs, where the first RNTI is used for cell DTX / DRX activation and the second RNTI is used for cell DTX / DRX deactivation.

[0131] In some implementations, the UE 110 may report the UE capability indicating the supported maximum number of cell DTX configurations and / or cell DRX configurations per component carrier or across component carriers.

[0132] Figure 7 illustrates an example DCI 706 with physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) resource indication for each UE by the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX indication. In one example approach, the network entity 120 configures dedicated PUCCH resources for the UEs to transmit the ACK / NACK for the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX configuration or indication. The network entity may configure or indicate the PUCCH resource index by RRC signaling, MAC CE, or the DCI on the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX. In one example, the network entity configures the location of the DCI fields for PUCCH resource indication for each UE 110 by RRC signaling and indicating the PUCCH resource for a UE (e.g., UE 1, UE 2, …UE N-1, UE N) by corresponding DCI field (e.g., 711A, 711B, …711M, 711N (collectively, DCI fields 711) ) . The DCI 706 may also include a DCI field 707 for the cell DTX / DRX configuration.

[0133] In some implementations, the UE transmits the ACK / NACK in the configured or indicated PUCCH resource. In some other implementations, the UE transmits NACK in the configured or indicated PUCCH resource and the UE refrains from transmitting ACK on the PUCCH resource if it decodes the PDCCH correctly. In some other implementations, the UE transmits ACK in the configured or indicated PUCCH resource and the UE refrains from transmitting NACK on the PUCCH resource if it fails to decode the PDCCH correctly.

[0134] In another example approach, the network entity configures a common PUCCH resource for the UEs receiving the PDCCH to transmit the ACK / NACK for the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX configuration. In other words, the network may configure a shared PUCCH resource for a group of UEs for transmitting ACK / NACK feedback. The network entity may configure or indicate the PUCCH resource index by RRC signaling, MAC CE, or the DCI on the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX. In one example, the network entity indicates a common PUCCH resource for the UEs 110 by corresponding DCI field.

[0135] In some example approaches, the UEs 110 may transmit ACK on the PUCCH resource if it decodes the PDCCH correctly, and it may refrain from transmitting NACK on the PUCCH  resource if it fails to decode the PDCCH correctly. In some other example approaches, the UEs may transmit NACK on the PUCCH resource if it fails to decode the PDCCH correctly, and it may refrain from transmitting ACK on the PUCCH resource if it decodes the PDCCH correctly.

[0136] In some example approaches, the network entity 120 transmits the PDCCH for cell DTX / DRX indication in multiple instances without configuring the PUCCH resource for ACK / NACK feedback. If the network entity detects that one UE 110 repeatedly fails to decode the cell DTX / DRX indication correctly (for example, one UE 110 still transmits impacted uplink channel 112 after the network entity 120 transmits the PDCCH multiple times) , the network entity may transmit a dedicated cell DTX / DRX indication to the UE by a dedicated PDCCH or MAC CE.

[0137] Figure 8 is a flowchart illustrating example operations (800) performed by a UE 110 to configure cell DTX and / or cell DRX at a UE. In the example shown in Figure 8, UE 110 transmits (802) information on supported cell DTX / DRX configurations. Examples of the transmitting of information on supported cell DTX / DRX configurations are provided in the discussions of Figures 1 (the discussion of configuration 104) , 3A-3D, and 4-6. UE 110 then receives (805) a control signal configuring at least one parameter for cell DTX / DRX and receives (806) a group-common PDCCH in one or more configured search space (s) based on the configured RNTI, the PDCCH indicating at least one parameter for cell DTX / DRX. Examples of the receiving of a control signal configuring at least one parameter for cell DTX / DRX are provided in the discussions of Figures 1, 4, 6, and 7. Examples of the receiving of a group-common PDCCH in one or more configured search space (s) based on the configured RNTI is provided in the discussions of Figures 1, 3B, 4, 6, and 7. UE 110 then transmits (808) an ACK when UE 110 properly decodes the configuration for the cell DTX / DRX (for example, the PDCCH that carries the cell DTX / DRX indication) , while a NACK is transmitted otherwise. Other approaches for transmitting ACK / NACK signals are described above. Examples of the transmitting of an ACK when the UE properly decodes the configuration for the cell DTX / DRX, while transmitting a NACK otherwise are provided in the discussions of Figures 4 and 7.

[0138] In some example approaches, if UE 110 properly decoded the configuration for the cell DTX / DRX, the UE 110 may determine (809) whether to transmit uplink signals 113 or receive downlink signals 115 that are fully or partially overlapped with the DTX / DRX inactive time as noted above. Examples of the transmitting of an ACK when the UE properly decodes the configuration for the cell DTX / DRX, while transmitting a NACK otherwise are provided in the discussions of Figures 4 and 7. See also, the discussion other types of communication in FIG. 1 (UE communication (109) with the multiple TRPs 122) , and the discussion of the handling of channels and signals falling within DTX / DRX inactive time in Figure 5.

[0139] Figure 9 is a flowchart illustrating example operations (900) performed by a network entity 120 to configure cell DTX and / or cell DRX at the UE. In the example approach shown in Figure 9, network entity 120 receives (902) information on supported cell DTX / DRX configurations, transmits (905) a control signal configuring at least one parameter for cell DTX / DRX and transmits (906) a group-common PDCCH in one or more configured search space (s) based on the configured RNTI, the PDCCH indicating at least one parameter for cell DTX / DRX. Examples of the receiving of information on supported cell DTX / DRX configurations are provided in the discussions of Figures 1 (the discussion of configuration 104) , 3A-3D, and 4-6. Network entity 120 then receives (908) an ACK when UE 110 properly decodes the configuration for the cell DTX / DRX (for example, the PDCCH that carries the cell DTX / DRX indication) , while a NACK is transmitted otherwise. Other approaches for transmitting ACK / NACK signals are described above. Examples of the transmitting ACK when the UE properly decodes the configuration for the cell DTX / DRX, while transmitting NACK otherwise is provided in the discussions of Figures 4 and 7.

[0140] Figure 10 is a flowchart illustrating example operations (1000) performed by a network entity to configure cell DTX and / or cell DRX at a UE. In the example approach of Figure 10, the network entity 120 transmits (1004) to a UE 110, a cell discontinuous transmission or discontinuous reception (cell DTX / DRX) configuration associated with at least one of a first and second cell or a first and second transmission and reception point (TRP) . Examples of the transmitting of a cell discontinuous transmission or discontinuous reception (cell DTX / DRX) configuration associated with at least one of a first and second cell or a first and second transmission and reception point (TRP) are provided in the discussions of Figures 1 (the discussion of configuration 104) , 3A-3D, and 4-6. The network entity communicates (1009) with the UE 110 based on the cell DTX / DRX configuration. Examples of communicating with the UE are provided in the discussion in FIG. 1 of UE communication (109) with the multiple TRPs 122, the discussion of the handling of channels and signals falling within DTX / DRX inactive time in Figure 5, and the transmitting ACKs and NACKs in the discussions of Figures 4 and 7.

[0141] Figure 11 is a flowchart illustrating example operations (1100) performed by a UE to configure cell DTX and / or cell DTX at the UE. In the example approach of Figure 11, the UE 110 receives (1104) to a UE 110, a cell discontinuous transmission or discontinuous reception (cell DTX / DRX) configuration associated with at least one of a first and second cell or a first and second transmission and reception point (TRP) . Examples of the receiving of a cell discontinuous  transmission or discontinuous reception (cell DTX / DRX) configuration associated with at least one of a first and second cell or a first and second transmission and reception point (TRP) are provided in the discussions of Figures 1 (the discussion of configuration 104) , 3A-3D, and 4-6. The UE communicates (1109) with the network entity based on the cell DTX / DRX configuration. Examples of communicating with the network entity are provided in the discussion in FIG. 1 of UE communication (109) with the multiple TRPs 122, the discussion of the handling of channels and signals falling within DTX / DRX inactive time in Figure 5, and the transmitting ACKs and NACKs in the discussions of Figures 4 and 7.

[0142] It is noted that some or all of the foregoing or the following implementations can be jointly combined or formed to be a new or another one implementation.

[0143] It is noted that the foregoing or the following techniques can be used to solve at least (but not limited to) the issue (s) or scenario (s) mentioned in this disclosure.

[0144] The following additional considerations may apply to the foregoing and the following discussions.

[0145] It is noted that any two or more than two of the foregoing or the following paragraphs, (sub) -bullets, points, actions, or claims described in each method / technique / implementation may be combined logically, reasonably, and properly to form a specific method.

[0146] It is noted that any sentence, paragraph, (sub) -bullet, point, action, or claim described in each of the foregoing or the following technique (s)  / implementation (s)  / concept (s) may be implemented independently and separately to form a specific method. Dependency, such as “based on” , “more specifically” , “where” or etc., in technique (s)  / implementation (s)  / concept (s) mentioned in this disclosure is just one possible implementation which would not restrict the specific method.

[0162] Various modifications to the implementations described in this disclosure may be readily apparent to persons having ordinary skill in the art, and the generic principles defined herein may be applied to other implementations without departing from the spirit or scope of this  disclosure. Thus, the claims are not intended to be limited to the implementations shown herein but are to be accorded the widest scope consistent with this disclosure, the principles and the novel features disclosed herein.

[0163] Additionally, various features that are described in this specification in the context of separate implementations also can be implemented in combination in a single implementation. Conversely, various features that are described in the context of a single implementation also can be implemented in multiple implementations separately or in any suitable subcombination. As such, although features may be described above as acting in particular combinations, and even initially claimed as such, one or more features from a claimed combination can in some cases be excised from the combination, and the claimed combination may be directed to a subcombination or variation of a subcombination.

[0164] Similarly, while operations are depicted in the drawings in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. Further, the drawings may schematically depict one or more example processes in the form of a flowchart or flow diagram. However, other operations that are not depicted can be incorporated in the example processes that are schematically illustrated. For example, one or more additional operations can be performed before, after, simultaneously, or between any of the illustrated operations. In some circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing may be advantageous. Moreover, the separation of various system components in the implementations described above should not be understood as requiring such separation in all implementations, and it should be understood that the described program components and systems can generally be integrated together in a single software product or packaged into multiple software products. Additionally, other implementations are within the scope of the following claims. In some cases, the actions recited in the claims can be performed in a different order and still achieve desirable results.
