AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectant compositions require prolonged exposure times to be effective against microorganisms and are often unstable, necessitating the use of stabilizers that increase costs.

Method used

A fast-acting disinfectant composition comprising hydrogen peroxide, an organic sulfonic acid or salt thereof, and a C1-C14 carboxylic acid, which achieves efficacy against various microorganisms in significantly reduced contact times without the need for stabilizers.

Benefits of technology

The composition demonstrates rapid and effective disinfection against a broad range of microorganisms, including viruses, fungi, and bacteria, within contact times as short as 1 second to 15 seconds, while maintaining stability and avoiding the use of stabilizers.

Abstract

A fast-acting disinfectant composition is disclosed containing relatively high amounts of hydrogen peroxide, an organic sulfonic acid or salt thereof, and a carboxylic acid. The fast-acting disinfectant composition displays at least one of the following: efficacy against at least one non-enveloped virus or enveloped virus after a 15 second contact time when tested according to ASTM Test e1053, efficacy against at least one fungi after a 1 minute contact time when tested according to an AOAC Germicidal Spray / wipe Method, efficacy against at least one bacteria after a 15 second contact time when tested according to an AOAC Germicidal Spray / wipe Method, or efficacy against at least one tuberculo-mycobacteria after a 1 minute contact time when tested according to an AOAC Tuberculocidal Activity of Disinfectants.
