AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing oral care compositions struggle to effectively remineralize teeth while preventing demineralization, particularly due to limitations in the availability of calcium and phosphate ions in saliva and the increasing prevalence of tooth erosion from acidic foods and drinks.

Method used

A synergistic combination of 1:1 layered silicate clay, 2:1 layered silicate clay, and xanthan gum in an oral care composition, which includes calcium-based or silica-based abrasives, enhances the remineralization process and reduces demineralization by promoting the in-situ generation of hydroxyapatite on teeth.

Benefits of technology

The composition effectively promotes tooth remineralization, reduces demineralization, and provides protection against dental erosion and tooth decay, while also improving the appearance and whiteness of teeth.

Abstract

The present invention relates an oral care composition. There is need for oral care composition that provides remineralization and at the same time, prevents or at least reduces demineralization. The present inventors have observed that a combination of a 1:1 layered silicate clay, a 2:1 layered silicate clay and xanthan gum is synergistic and together they remineralize the teeth and preferably reduce their demineralization.
