Abstract
Description
[0001] HAIR DYEING COMPOSITION
[0002] Field of the invention
[0003] The present invention is directed to dyeing compositions for fibers, preferably to hair dyeing compositions. Additionally, a method for dyeing and a dyeing product is disclosed.
[0004] Background of the invention
[0005] Hair coloring is a common practice and especially fashionable colors are subject to rapid change. In particular, clients prefer to change colors multiple times or combine hair coloring with other chemical processes such as perms or bleaches. As a result, the hair of long-haired clients in particular has different areas of damage along the hair fiber. Especially with colorful azo dyes, dye absorption is highly dependent on the condition of the hair fiber. Damaged parts of the hair may show a stronger update resulting in a more intense hair color. Thus, the homogeneity of hair color along the fiber may not be given, leading to customer dissatisfaction.
[0006] Therefore, it is necessary to develop hair dye compositions, products and methods that improve the homogeneity of hair dyeing with azo dyes.
[0007] The prior art has not yet found the ideal solution.

[0012] The third object of the present invention is a method for dyeing fibers, preferably keratin fibers, more preferably human keratin fibers, still more preferably human hair, comprising the steps of: i) applying to the fibers a composition A as defined above or mixing a composition B with a composition C as defined above to yield a mixture having a pH in the range of 7 to 12, ii) leaving the ready-to-use composition onto the fibers for a time period in the range of 1 to 60 min, iii) optionally rinsing-off the fibers and optionally drying the fibers.

[0083] Results
[0084] The AE*a,b difference between untreated and permed hair (s. Table 1-3) was lower for the non-sulfate surfactants (Inv. ex. 1-16) in comparison to sodium lauryl sulfate (Com. ex. 1-3). This results in better homogeneity. This improvement was independent of the washing of the fibers.
[0085] Methods
[0086] Hair perming
[0087] Goat hair (10 cm long, 1 g per bundle) was purchased from International Hair Importers, Glendale, NY, USA. The hair was shampooed prior to treatment.
[0088] A perming composition comprising a reducing agent commercially available under the trade name Goldwell Structure and Shine was applied to the hair and left for 30 min at ambient temperature. The reducing composition was rinsed-off with lukewarm water and an oxidizing composition was applied for 20 min. The hair was then rinsed-off and blow-dried.
[0089] Hair dyeing
[0090] 1 g of the hair streaks, either untreated or permed, were completely immersed in 10 g of the dyeing compositions from table 1 and left for 2 min at 40°C. Then the hair streaks were rinsed off with water, and blow-dried.
[0091] Wash fastness
[0092] The dyed hair streaks were placed in a water bath comprising 3.5% by weight of sodium laureth sulfate for 10 min. Then the hair streaks were rinsed-off with water and blow dried.
[0093] Color measurement
[0094] Lab values were measured after dyeing or placing the streaks in the surfactant bath with a Datacolor 45G instrument. AE was calculated as the difference between color uptake of untreated (2) vs. permed hair (1) or wash-out of untreated (2) vs. permed hair (1), respectively.
