Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Motorized swing gate and method for motorizing a swing gate leaf
[0001] The present application relates to the field of single or double leaf swing gates. It is known to motorize such a gate in order to allow the user to remotely control the opening and closing of the gate. The invention relates more specifically to a motorization method using a motorization reinforcement to be installed on the gate to allow its motorization. Prior art
[0002] A swing gate generally comprises one or two leaves, each leaf comprising a side post around which the leaf is rotatably mounted. The invention is particularly advantageous in the case of swing gates with horizontal slats, each leaf comprising a plurality of horizontal slats carried by two opposite side posts or by a frame. That being said, the invention applies to all types of swing gate, including the aforementioned horizontal slat gates but also vertical slat gates and solid gates.
[0003] To motorize a gate leaf, it is known to use a motorization assembly comprising a control block and an actuating arm. The control block is mounted on a pillar, generally masonry (made of bricks, concrete blocks, etc.) or stone, adjacent to the side post of the leaf around which said leaf is rotatably mounted. The actuating arm extends substantially horizontally; it connects the control block to the leaf. The distal end of the actuating arm is fixed to the leaf. Said actuating arm makes it possible to pull or push the leaf to cause it to rotate around the side post.
[0004] There are several types of motorization assemblies, including articulated arm assemblies, cylinder assemblies, rigid arm (or rod) and slide assemblies. The invention applies to all types of motorization assemblies.
[0005] By convention, throughout the description, the expression "control unit" designates a housing containing at least electrical or electronic components, such as electrical connectors, electronic card for controlling the motorization, sensor or receiver for receiving control signals emitted by a remote control, etc. Depending on the type of motorization assembly, the control unit also comprises a motor. Furthermore, the expression "actuating arm" designates what connects the control unit to the leaf.
[0006] Thus, for example, in the case of a motorization assembly of the articulated arm type, the actuating arm is an articulated arm composed essentially of two parts, namely a part sometimes called "motor arm" connected to the control unit, and a part sometimes called "gate arm" connected to the leaf; moreover, the "control unit" comprises on the one hand various electrical or electronic components necessary for the operation of the motorization assembly, such as those previously listed, and on the other hand an electric motor to which a proximal end of the actuating arm is connected (which is also the proximal end of the motor arm) and which drives this proximal end in rotation. The actuating arm ends, at its distal end (which is also the distal end of the gate arm) by a fixing plate which is used to connect the arm to the leaf.
[0007] In the case of a motorization assembly of the cylinder type, the actuating arm is a cylinder, which can be electromechanical or hydraulic or pneumatic. The “control unit” is a housing simply integrating electrical or electronic components necessary for the operation of the cylinder. In other words, the control unit is without a motor, the drive system being located in the arm. The proximal end of the cylinder (or actuating arm) is connected to the pillar via a pillar fixing bracket, generally in the form of a bracket, and the distal end of the cylinder is fixed to the leaf using a gate fixing bracket, generally in the form of a yoke.
[0008] Finally, in the case of a motorization assembly of the rigid rod and slide type, the expression “actuating arm” designates the assembly formed by the rigid rod and the slide. The slide constitutes the distal end of the actuating arm; it is fixed to the leaf. The rigid rod ends with a slide configured to slide in the slide. Furthermore, the “control unit” comprises both electrical and electronic components and a motor on the shaft of which the proximal end of the rigid rod is fixed.
[0009] In order for the leaf to withstand the forces imposed on it by the actuating arm, it is necessary to reinforce the area in which the distal end of the actuating arm is fixed to the leaf by adding a motor reinforcement. The height at which the actuating arm is fixed on the leaf is generally determined by the location of the control unit, which may depend on various factors dictated by the environment of the gate and by the progress of the work.
[0010] In a leaf with horizontal slats, it is known, as a motor reinforcement, to replace a leaf slat with a structural crosspiece or to integrate an internal reinforcement inside a slat. The height at which the motor reinforcement is positioned must therefore be determined before the gate is manufactured. Once this height has been defined and the gate manufactured, it can no longer be modified.
[0011] This poses a problem when there is an error in taking measurements on site, a poorly positioned electrical supply or when changing the motor to a different model.
[0012] Where possible, poor definition of the mounting height of the actuating arm can possibly be compensated for by modifications to the construction site. Where this is not possible, the leaf must be completely remanufactured.
[0013] In addition, when fixing the motor, the installer punctually drills the gate to fix the distal end of the actuating arm. The positioning of the motor is a critical point because if the distal end of the actuating arm is outside the motor reinforcement, the forces generated by said arm will deteriorate the integrity of the gate. This can lead to a risk to people: in the event of strong winds, the motorization can be torn off and the leaf could hit a body.
[0014] Furthermore, when changing the motor, it is common for the old anchoring holes in the fixing plate of the distal end of the actuating arm to remain visible, which degrades the aesthetic appearance of the product. Statement of the invention
[0015] The invention aims to solve at least one of the aforementioned drawbacks, by providing a motorization reinforcement that can be attached to a leaf after its manufacture and positioned at various heights, in particular so that it can be installed at the desired height directly on site. Another objective of the invention is to provide a method for motorizing a leaf that subsequently allows the motorization of the leaf to be changed without the aesthetics of the gate being degraded.
[0016] To do this, the invention relates to a method for motorizing a swing gate leaf comprising the installation of a motorization reinforcement in the leaf, characterized in that:
[0017] - a motor reinforcement comprising an external reinforcement profile is used having a rear face configured to be pressed against a facade of the leaf to be motorized and a front face opposite said rear face, the external reinforcement profile further comprising a longitudinal T-shaped groove open on said front face,
[0018] - the external reinforcement profile is fixed to the facade of the leaf using a plurality fixing screws passing through the rear face of the external reinforcement profile,
[0019] - a clamping system is provided which is configured on the one hand to be inserted and on the other to slide inside the T-groove of the outer reinforcement profile and to be locked by clamping inside said groove, and on the other hand to receive fixings from a distal end of an actuating arm of a motorization assembly.
[0020] The main function of the external reinforcement profile is to distribute the forces that the actuating arm imposes on the leaf over a larger surface area. Instead of being transmitted by the fixings of the actuating arm directly to the leaf, by being concentrated on a small area corresponding to the fixing area of the distal end of the actuating arm, these forces are taken up by the external reinforcement profile then transmitted to the leaf by the screws fixing said profile to the leaf, the number and distribution of which along said profile can be chosen appropriately. In the case of a leaf with vertical slats, the use of the profile according to the invention makes it possible to distribute the forces over a plurality of slats, or even over all the slats of the leaf if the length of the profile corresponds substantially to the width of the leaf. In the case of a leaf with horizontal slats, the use of a profile according to the invention whose length corresponds to that of the slats (and therefore almost to the width of the gate) makes it possible to distribute the forces over the entire slat on which the profile is fixed.
[0021] Thanks to the invention, the motor reinforcement, more precisely the external reinforcement profile, can be added to the gate after its manufacture, including on site, once the gate and the control unit are installed. The height at which the profile is positioned can be adjusted according to the final height of the operating arm. If the leaf is a leaf with horizontal slats, the invention makes it possible to choose, after manufacture of the leaf, the slat which must be reinforced and on which the external reinforcement profile must be fixed. This choice is particularly possible on site, after production of the electrical inputs of the control unit of the motorization assembly, or even after installation of said control unit.
[0022] Thus, if an error has been made when taking measurements or making said electrical inlets or installing the control unit, which results in the actuating arm not being positioned at the initially planned height and falling opposite a slat other than the one that was initially planned to be reinforced, it is not necessary to completely remanufacture the leaf as in previous methods. The correction of this error can be carried out on site, without delay or consequence on the aesthetics of the gate. In the same way, in the case of a leaf with vertical slats or a solid leaf, the external reinforcement profile can be positioned at the ad hoc height.
[0023] It is possible either to supply the leaf and the external reinforcement profile separately to the site, then to fix the external reinforcement profile to the facade of the leaf on the site, or to fix in the factory (before its delivery to the site) the external reinforcement profile to the facade of the leaf, after having checked on the site the height of the control unit already installed or the electrical inlets already made.
[0024] Just like the height of the outer reinforcement profile, the position of the clamping system along the T-groove of the outer reinforcement profile can also be adjusted by sliding said system in the T-groove of the outer reinforcement profile, depending on the position of the distal end of the actuating arm.
[0025] The possibility of adjusting the attachment position on the gate on site makes it possible to adjust the closing of the gate in order to ensure that the gate remains securely closed in the event of external force, particularly in the event of strong winds.
[0026] This is also useful, among other things, in the event of a change of the motorization assembly, following a breakdown for example or to install a more efficient motor or a more robust motorization assembly or of a different type. In this case, the height of the control block is generally not modified (since the electrical inlets are not) but it may happen that the distal end of the actuating arm does not fall exactly, in the longitudinal direction of the gate, in the same place as that of the old actuating arm, for example if the new arm is longer or shorter than the old one. In this case, the sliding clamping system is simply moved inside the T-groove of the external reinforcement profile and then tightened again in the desired location, and there remains no trace of fixing of the old actuating arm. The aesthetics of the gate are therefore not degraded by the change of the motorization assembly.
[0027] In a possible embodiment of the method according to the invention, the clamping system comprises at least two hammer nuts or at least two hammer screws and in that the fixings of the distal end of the actuating arm comprise at least two screws or nuts complementary, respectively, to said hammer nuts or hammer screws. The tightening of the fixing screws of the arm in the hammer nuts causes the hammer nuts to be blocked inside the groove.
[0028] Alternatively, the clamping system comprises a plate or clamp capable of being inserted and slidable in the T-groove and having at least two threads for receiving the fasteners (in this case screws) of the distal end of the actuating arm.
[0029] According to a possible additional characteristic of the method according to the invention, a finishing clip is provided configured to fit elastically into the T-groove of the profile and to mask said T-groove. This finishing clip is preferably installed on the external reinforcement profile on site, after fixing the actuating arm to the external reinforcement profile, so that it can be cut into two pieces of suitable lengths to completely mask the groove on either side of the distal end of the actuating arm.
[0030] According to a possible additional feature, the rear face of the profile is provided with holes for receiving the screws for fixing the profile, and these holes are provided inside the T-groove.
[0031] Alternatively, the fixing screws of the external reinforcement profile may be positioned outside the T-groove of the profile, for example on a part of the profile located laterally above or below said groove, this part possibly having the shape of a fin extending longitudinally along the entire length of the profile or the shape of a plurality of fixing lugs spaced along the groove.
[0032] According to a possible additional characteristic, in the case of a leaf comprising horizontal slats, the external reinforcement profile has a length substantially equal to the length of a horizontal slat of the leaf.
[0033] On the other hand, the width of the profile is preferably less than the height of a horizontal blade of the leaf in order to allow adjustment in height of the profile on the blade to be reinforced according to the actual position of the distal end of the actuating arm. It is however not excluded to provide an external reinforcement profile whose width is substantially equal to the height of the blades.
[0034] According to a possible additional characteristic, the motorization method according to the invention further comprises the installation of a motorization assembly comprising a control block and an actuating arm, and takes place as follows:
[0035] - the control unit is installed on a pillar adjacent to the leaf to be motorized,
[0036] - if it has not been previously (in the factory) mounted on the leaf to be motorized, fixes the external reinforcement profile to the facade of said leaf, using the corresponding fixing screws,
[0037] - the actuating arm is connected to the leaf by fixing the distal end of said arm to the external reinforcement profile using hammer nuts or hammer head screws,
[0038] - if a finishing clip is provided, said finishing clip is finally installed.
[0039] The invention extends to a motorized swing gate comprising a leaf and a motorization assembly, which motorization assembly comprises a motor and an actuating arm having a distal end connected to said leaf, characterized in that it comprises a motorization reinforcement comprising an external reinforcement profile fixed to a front of said leaf, the external reinforcement profile having a rear face pressed against the front of the leaf and a front face provided with a T-groove, the distal end of the actuating arm being fixed to the external reinforcement profile using a clamping system configured on the one hand to be inserted and to slide inside the T-groove of the external reinforcement profile and to be locked by clamping inside said groove, and on the other hand to receive fixings from the distal end of the actuating arm.
[0040] In a preferred embodiment, the clamping system comprises at least two hammer nuts or at least two hammer screws, while the fixings of the distal end of the actuating arm comprise at least two screws or nuts complementary, respectively, to said hammer nuts or hammer screws. Brief description of the drawings
[0041] The invention, according to an exemplary embodiment, will be well understood and its advantages will be ap will appear better on reading the detailed description which follows, given for information purposes and in no way limiting, with reference to the attached drawings in which:

[0043] [Fig.2] [Fig.2] is a zoom, still in perspective, on an area of the leaf of the [Fig.l], around the distal end of the actuator arm of the motor assembly;
[0044] [Fig.3] [Fig.3] is a cross-sectional view of an external reinforcement profile according to the invention. Detailed description
[0045] Identical elements shown in the above-mentioned figures are identified by identical reference numerals.
[0046] [Fig.l] represents a motorized gate 1 according to the invention, of which a leaf 2 can be seen, represented here in the closed position. This is a leaf with horizontal slats, essentially formed by slats 4a, 4b,... 4f, 4g, 4h .. .4p, carried by two end posts 6 and 8. One of these posts, in the example post 6 located on the left in the figure, constitutes a vertical axis of rotation around which the leaf 2 can pivot in order to be able to be opened.
[0047] As indicated above, the leaf could, as a variant, be solid or with vertical slats.
[0048] The gate 1 further comprises a motorization assembly. This is a motorization assembly of the articulated arm type. As indicated in the introduction, the motorization assembly could, as a variant, be of the cylinder or rigid rod and slide type.
[0049] The illustrated motorization assembly comprises on the one hand a control block 10 integrating an electric motor, electrically powered by a cable 11, and on the other hand an articulated actuating arm 12. The control block 10 is fixed on a masonry pillar 13 adjacent to the end post 6 of the leaf.
[0050] The actuating arm 12 comprises a rectilinear motor arm 121 and an angled portal arm 122, articulated one after the other by a pivot (not shown).
[0051] The actuating arm 12 has a proximal end 12a (which is also the proximal end of the motor arm 121) connected to an output shaft of the motor so as to be able to be driven in rotation by the motor. The actuating arm also has a distal end 12b (which is also the distal end of the gate arm 122) connected to the leaf 2.
[0052] Clockwise rotation (top view) of the motor and proximal end 12a of the actuator arm causes movement of the distal end 12b substantially orthogonally to the front 15 of the leaf. The blade 4g on which the distal end 12b of the actuating arm is fixed then undergoes a local bending force (in one direction when opening and in the other when closing the leaf) at the attachment point of the distal end 12b of the arm. It is appropriate to locally limit these forces by distributing them over a larger area of the leaf 2, for example by distributing them at various points along the length of the blade 4g, and to reinforce the strength of said blade 4g.
[0053] To do this, the invention provides for the use of an external reinforcing profile 14, the cross-section of which can be seen in [Fig. 3]. Preferably, this profile has a length (dimension along a central axis of the profile, which is horizontal once the profile is mounted on the leaf 2) which is substantially equal to the length of the blade 4g of the leaf.
[0054] In the non-limiting example illustrated, the external reinforcement profile 14 also has a height (dimension according to the vertical direction of gravity, the profile being observed mounted on the leaf) substantially equal to the height of the blade 4g of the leaf. As a variant, it may have a height less than that of the blade 4g, which makes it possible to adjust the height of the profile on the blade and therefore on the leaf, depending on the position of the control block to obtain a perfectly horizontal actuating arm.
[0055] The external reinforcing profile 14 has a flat rear face 16 which is pressed against the blade 4g, or more generally against the front 16 of the leaf. It is fixed to the leaf 2 by means of fixing screws 18 which pass through the rear face 16 of the profile and are regularly distributed over the entire length of said profile and therefore of the blade 4g. The forces transmitted to the leaf at the distal end 12b of the actuating arm are thus distributed over the entire length of the blade 4g. In addition, the rigidity of the external reinforcing profile 14 is added to that of the blade 4g to prevent any bending of said blade when opening and closing the leaf.
[0056] The motorization method according to the invention thus comprises the reinforcement of a blade of the leaf (here the blade 4g) using the external reinforcement profile 14. It should be noted that the invention applies to any type of gate, in particular to a solid gate, the profile then reinforcing the leaf in general.
[0057] The fixing of the external reinforcement profile 14 on the blade 4g of the leaf can be carried out in the factory or on site. In both cases, it can be carried out after installation of the control block 10 on the pillar 13 or at the very least after production of the pillar 13 and the electrical inlets of said control block, that is to say once the final height of said block can be determined without error.
[0058] Instead of being fixed directly to the blade 4g as is the case in the known state of the art, the distal end 12b of the actuating arm is fixed to the profile external reinforcement 14.
[0059] To this end, the external reinforcement profile 14 comprises a T-shaped groove 20 open on a flat front face 22 of the profile. This C-shaped groove is delimited by the rear face 16 of the profile, an upper internal wing 24 extended frontally by an upper rim 28 formed in the front face 22 of the profile, and a lower internal wing 26 extended frontally by a lower rim 30 formed in the front face of the profile.
[0060] Preferably, the fixing screws 18 of the external reinforcement profile are arranged in the T-shaped groove 20. Thus the fixing screws 18 are accessible via the opening of the groove from the front face 22 of the profile and, once tightened, the heads of said screws are located at the bottom of the groove and are therefore very little visible. They are no longer visible at all if a finishing clip 34 is finally installed.
[0061] The distal end 12b of the actuating arm is fixed to the outer reinforcement profile using two hammer nuts 32. These may be M6 or M8 type hammer nuts depending on the motor. A single nut could possibly be used but the connection would probably lack rigidity; conversely, more than two hammer nuts could be provided to fix the distal end of the arm to the profile, but this does not seem really necessary.
[0062] For the record, a hammer nut has a generally parallelepipedal body, provided with a central thread. In order to be able to be used in cooperation with the groove 20, this body has a generally rectangular cross-section (section orthogonal to the axis of the thread) having a width less than the width of the opening of the T-shaped groove 20 (the width of the opening of the groove corresponding to the distance between the upper and lower edges 28, 30) and a length both greater than the width of the opening of the groove 20 and less than the width of the cavity of the groove 20 (more precisely the cross-section of the body even has a diagonal which is less than the width of the cavity, to allow the nut to pivot around its axis, inside the cavity).Such a nut can therefore be inserted into the groove by aligning the direction of its width with the direction of the width of the opening of the groove (i.e. here with the vertical), and it can be locked inside the groove by being pivoted a quarter turn so that the direction of its length is approximately vertical as illustrated in [Fig. 3]. The body of the nut is then retained, perpendicular to the profile, by the upper flange 28 and the lower flange 30, which prevents the nut from being torn out of the profile.
[0063] Such a fixing using a T-slot and hammer nuts has the main advantage of allowing the hammer nuts 32 to be positioned at will along the T-slot 20, at the exact location where the distal end 12b of the actuating arm falls once the control block is installed. In addition, the installation of the nuts is extremely simple and quick and can be done without any special tools.
[0064] Another clamping system could be used, for example a simple plate with a width slightly less than the height of the cavity of the T-shaped groove 20 so that it can be inserted into the groove (by one end of the profile) and so that it can slide inside said groove. The width of the plate must also be greater than the height of the opening of the groove so that it can be pressed against by the lower and upper edges 28, 30 which delimit this opening. The plate also comprises threads capable of receiving the fixing screws of the distal end 12b of the actuating arm. Tightening the fixing screws of the distal end of the arm therefore results in the plate being locked in the T-shaped groove, the lower and upper edges 28, 30 of the groove being pinched and wedged between the plate and the distal end of the arm.Such a threaded plate, associated with the arm fixing screws, therefore constitutes a system as claimed "configured, both, to slide inside the T-groove and to be locked by clamping in said groove".
[0065] The distal end 12b of the actuating arm is then fixed to the external reinforcement profile 14 using two fixing screws 36 (see [Fig.2]) which pass through said end and are anchored in the hammer nuts 32.
[0066] The hammer nuts 32 can be replaced by hammer head screws, in which case the fixing screws 36 of the distal end 12b of the actuating arm are replaced by nuts.
[0067] In order to perfect the final aesthetic appearance of the gate, a finishing clip 34 is fitted into the T-shaped groove 20 on either side of the distal end 12b of the actuating arm. This clip is not shown in Figures 1 and 2 but it is visible (in section) in [Fig.3].
[0068] The finishing clip has a width 32 greater than the opening of the T-shaped groove 20 of the external reinforcement profile in order to mask said groove. In the example illustrated, the finishing clip has a width slightly greater than the width of the opening of the groove 20, and it rests on shoulders provided in the edges 28 and 30 of the front face. The clip also has elastic fixing tabs which allow it to be inserted and locked in the opening of the groove.
[0069] Alternatively, it could have a width at least equal to that of the external reinforcement profile 14 in order to completely cover and mask this profile on either side of the distal end 12b of the actuating arm. The clip could then, preferably, have a C-shaped section with a core applied against the front face 22 of the profile, an upper fin covering the upper face 23 of the profile and a lower fin covering the lower face 25 of the profile. Not only does such a finishing clip contribute to the aesthetics of the gate, but it also makes it possible to use a raw (unpainted) metal reinforcement profile and therefore less expensive, whatever the color of the gate, the finishing clip being supplied in the same color as the front of the gate.
