Description

Title of the invention: DEVICE FOR MOUNTING A SMARTPHONE SUPPORT in a motor vehicle

[0001] The invention relates, in general, to the field of installing smartphones in the passenger compartment of motor vehicles and is more particularly concerned with a device suitable for and intended for the reversible mounting of a smartphone support on the driving position or the dashboard.

[0002] Generally, supports for mobile communication devices (telephones, smartphones, tablets, etc.) intended for motor vehicles consist of a console for receiving the device provided with adjustable members for holding this device and means for fixing it to the dashboard.

[0003] Currently, these fixing means comprise a threaded rod extending to the rear of the console and carrying a spring associated with a nut. These means are intended to cooperate by screwing with a complex assembly integrated into the driving position or the dashboard and which comprises several elements and, in particular, a plate carrying a conduit for receiving and locking the console rod. This plate is intended to be covered, in the upper part by hoods and dressed, in the front, by a front trim.

[0004] Traditionally, the operations for mounting the smartphone holder on the vehicle proceed as follows. The first operation consists of assembling the console and the plate by pushing the threaded rod into the conduit and then tightening the locking nut to form a solid assembly.

[0005] At the same time, it is necessary to prepare a housing in the dashboard by placing, in a cavity previously made there, elements for receiving the plate of the sub-assembly. This assembly is then fixed in the dashboard, via the plate, before proceeding with the final fitting by installing the covers and trim.

[0006] However, it turns out that these operating conditions are long and laborious. Indeed, the bulky presence of the console secured to the plate in the environment of the installation area on the driving position hinders the operators during all the fixing and dressing phases and, consequently, slows down the assembly operations.

[0007] Furthermore, this configuration presents risks of snagging and therefore breakage of the console or, at the very least, of breaking the connection between this console and the turntable.

[0008] Furthermore, the current mechanical connection between the console and the plate, which is complex and is located in the driver's compartment, is therefore very difficult to access. This connection therefore does not allow rapid disassembly of the assembly, nor easy replacement of the console in the event of after-sales maintenance or for a adaptation to a new device.

[0009] There are already means of supporting communication devices such as a smartphone in motor vehicles, such as those described in patent US10640053B2. However, these supports do not have an architecture allowing simple and ergonomic mounting and aesthetic integration into the driving position or the dashboard, nor possibilities for easy disassembly and replacement of the console after-sales.

[0010] In this context, the invention sought a technical solution intended to resolve the problems raised by the assembly of prior support means and, in particular, to reduce the assembly times of these supports in the factory while preserving their integrity and simplifying the removal operations for maintenance purposes.

[0011] This object is achieved, according to the invention, by means of a device for mounting a smartphone support on a dashboard of a motor vehicle, said support comprising, on the one hand, a console whose front wall delimits a housing for the smartphone and whose back wall carries a rod provided with connecting and locking elements and, on the other hand, a plate which is integrated into the dashboard and has a conduit in which said rod is introduced and locked, characterized in that said connecting and locking elements comprise a tip of parallelepiped section fitted onto said rod and carrying flexible fins cooperating with lugs extending radially on the internal wall of the conduit of the plate to ensure the reversible snap-fastening of the rod.

[0012] According to an advantageous characteristic of the mounting device according to the invention, the wall of the duct has a parallelepiped internal section through which orifices are provided intended to receive the fins after snap-fastening.

[0013] According to a specific variant embodiment of the device of the invention, the rod carries, at its end, a helical spring and a nut intended for wedging the end piece in the conduit.

[0014] According to another characteristic of the mounting device of the invention, the end piece comprises a collar intended to slide in contact with the internal wall of the conduit during the introduction of the rod.

[0015] Preferably, this collar extends radially on the end piece between its front end and the fins.

[0016] According to a specific characteristic of the device of the invention, the collar is made, at least partially, with an elastomer material ensuring a damping effect during snap-fastening.

[0017] According to yet another characteristic of the mounting device of the invention, the rear end of the end piece carries guide pins housed in a curved manner. smoothing in grooves of complementary profile provided on the internal wall of the rear end of the conduit.

[0018] Another object of the invention is a method of mounting a smartphone support on a dashboard of a motor vehicle by means of the device defined above, characterized in that the plate is first installed in the dashboard and provided with trim elements, at the same time said end piece is fitted onto the rod of the console and then introduced into the conduit of the plate until it is locked by snap-fastening at the end of its travel.

[0019] Another object of the invention is a method for dismantling a smartphone support mounted on a dashboard of a motor vehicle via the method defined above, characterized in that at least one of the trim elements is separated to access the plate and then the fins of the end piece are pressed to unlock the rod and extract it from the conduit by pulling on the console.

[0020] Yet another object of the invention is a motor vehicle equipped with a device for mounting a smartphone as defined above.

[0021] In its most general aspect, the invention proposes a device and a method providing an improved technical solution to the problems of mounting and dismounting a smartphone support for vehicles.

[0022] Thanks to the device of the invention, the assembly of this support can be carried out at the end of the line in the factory or at the dealership before delivery of the vehicle and allows easy disassembly after sales.

[0023] Thanks to the device of the invention, the surrounding trim is unchanged and its assembly, and in particular that of the lower central facade of the dashboard, becomes simpler. Indeed, due to the absence of the console of the smartphone holder during this operation (console which was previously inconvenient for the operator), the fixing of this facade can now be carried out in a single action by the operator. In addition, the risks of breakage of the smartphone holder are thus avoided. Consequently, these advantages ultimately result in a substantial economic gain.

[0024] The end piece attached to the console rod, which is an essential element of the invention, allows for easy, rapid and reversible locking of the smartphone holder in the plate by simple translation of the rod. Unlocking is easy because the fins are visible through the holes in the end piece, once the cover is detached.

[0025] Furthermore, because the plate has been integrated into the dashboard or the driving position prior to the mounting of the support console, it becomes possible to install a pre-assembled dashboard in the passenger compartment while on a separate station the support is prepared by fitting the end piece onto the rod, which improves the assembly time and quality of finish.

[0026] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge on reading the description which follows, with reference to the appended figures, for which:

[0027] [Fig-1] is a perspective view of a smartphone holder equipped with a preferred embodiment of the mounting device of the invention.

[0028] [Fig.2] is a view of the rear of the smartphone holder of [Fig.l].

[0029] [Fig.3] is a top view of the smartphone holder of [Fig.l] in the mounting and locking position on a motor vehicle dashboard.

[0030] [Fig.4] is a perspective view of the tip integrated into the mounting device according to the invention (without smartphone support).

[0031] [Fig.5] is a front view of a dashboard provided with a plate of the mounting device according to the invention, before assembly of the console of the smartphone support.

[0032] [Fig.6] is a front view of the dashboard of [Fig.5] after assembly and locking of the smartphone holder console.

[0033] For clarity, identical or similar elements are identified by identical reference signs throughout the figures.

[0034] Naturally, the embodiment of the mounting device of the invention illustrated schematically by the figures presented above and described below, is given only as non-limiting examples. It is explicitly provided within the scope of the invention that different modes can be proposed and combined with each other to propose others.

[0035] The invention relates to the general field of installing a smartphone holder on the dashboard or the driving position of a motor vehicle.

[0036] Traditionally and as illustrated by [Fig.l], smartphone supports (the device is not shown) are complex assemblies generally comprising the assembly of two main elements. A first element is formed of a console 1 whose front wall delimits a housing 10 for the smartphone and whose back wall 1b carries a rod 11 provided with connecting and locking elements. A second element is formed of a plate 2 which is integrated into the dashboard P ([Fig.3]) and has a conduit 21 into which the rod 11 is inserted and locked at the end of assembly.

[0037] The operations for mounting the smartphone support on the vehicle consist of assembling the console 1 and the plate 2 by pushing the threaded rod 11 into the conduit 21 and then locking these two elements to form a solid assembly.

[0038] At the same time, it is necessary to prepare a housing in the dashboard by placing, in a cavity previously made there, elements for receiving the plate. The assembly is then fixed in the dashboard P before proceeding to the final cladding by placing the covers C and trims in the environment of plate 2.

[0039] However, it turns out that during assembly of the assembly, the console 1 which is integral with the plate 2 and which extends to the front of the dashboard P, hinders the operators during all the fixing and fitting phases and, consequently, slows down the assembly operations. In addition, during these operations there is a risk of breakage of the console 1 or, at the very least, of rupture of the connection between this console and the plate 2.

[0040] Furthermore, the current connection between the console 1 and the plate 2, which is completely integrated into the driver's compartment P, does not allow rapid disassembly of the assembly, nor easy replacement of the console 1 in the event of after-sales maintenance or for adaptation to a new device.

[0041] In this context, the invention aims to simplify and therefore facilitate the assembly and disassembly of the smartphone support, in particular, by modifying and improving the mechanical connection between the console 1 and the plate 2.

[0042] For this purpose and as illustrated by figures 1 to 4, the connecting and locking elements comprise an end piece 3 of parallelepiped section attached and fitted without play on the rod 11 and carrying flexible fins 31. These fins are intended to cooperate with lugs 22 extending radially on the internal wall of the conduit 21 of the plate 2 to ensure the reversible snap-fastening of the rod 11.

[0043] The wall of the conduit 21 of the plate 2 has a parallelepiped internal section through which orifices 20 are provided for receiving the fins 31 after snap-fastening. Preferably, the rod 11 carries, at its end, a helical spring 12 and a nut 13 for wedging the end piece 3 in the conduit 21.

[0044] The spring 12 and the nut 13 and, if necessary, an additional washer, thus ensure the interface with the end piece 3. Thus, the supplier of the smartphone support will be able to guarantee the tightening torque and the handling efforts by the user of the vehicle.

[0045] As illustrated by [Fig.4], the end piece 3 comprises a collar 32 which extends radially on the end piece between its front end 3a and the fins 31 and which is intended to slide in contact with the internal wall of the conduit 21 during the introduction of the rod 11. This collar is made, at least partially, with an elastomer material ensuring a damping effect in contact with a shoulder (not shown) of the conduit 21 during snap-fastening and which maintains, in all circumstances, a constraint on the locking fins 31.

[0046] In order to perfect the connection between the console 1 and the plate 2 of the smartphone support, the rear end of the end piece 3 carries guide pins 33 which are housed in a sliding manner in grooves 23 of complementary profile arranged on the internal wall of the rear end of the conduit 21. This gives a zone of iso-statism with a Poka-Yoke function between the end piece 3 (and therefore the rod 11) and the plate 2. The internal wall of the end piece 3 is cylindrical from its front end 3a to its rear end 3b and fits the rod 11.

[0047] The method of mounting the smartphone holder on the dashboard P, or the driving position, is carried out by means of the device of the invention in the manner described below with reference to Figures 5 and 6.

[0048] First of all, an operator positions and fixes the plate 2 in the dashboard P where it is then provided with traditional trim elements, such as various covers C and front trims. In parallel and possibly independently (for example, at the support supplier), the end piece 3 is fitted onto the rod 11 of the console 1 then the assembly is introduced into the conduit 21 of the plate 2 until, at the end of the translation stroke (according to the arrow [Fig. 3]), it is locked by elastic deformation of the flexible fins 31 in contact with the lugs 22 of the plate 2 then their snap-fastening in the opposite orifices 20.

[0049] Once mounted, the smartphone holder can be easily disassembled. To this end, the user of the vehicle, or a maintenance operator, first separates at least one of the covers C to access the plate 2. The fins 31 are then visible through the orifices 20 of the end piece 2, once the cover C is detached.

[0050] Then, by pressing on the fins 31 of the end piece 3, via the orifices 20, the rod 11 is unlocked and extracted from the conduit 21 by pulling the console 1 outwards. It is then possible to replace the cover C on the plate 2 while waiting for a new console. As a result, it is no longer necessary to dismantle the entire central part of the dashboard or the driving position to remove the console 1.
