Description

Title of the invention: Vehicle seat element and method for producing a vehicle seat element Disclosure area

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a vehicle seat element and a method for producing a vehicle seat element. The seat element may in particular be a seat, a backrest, a headrest or an armrest. State of the art

[0002] It is known to provide a vehicle seat element comprising a trim, a first covering and a second covering, the first covering and the second covering being held together by stitching and covering the trim. The present disclosure aims to provide a robust solution while being aesthetically attractive. Disclosure Statement

[0003] According to the present disclosure, the method comprises the following operations:

[0004] a) positioning a first covering opposite a second covering, the first covering having a first edge, a first right side and a first reverse side (opposite the first right side), the second covering having a second edge, a second right side and a second reverse side (opposite the second right side), the first right side is arranged opposite the second right side,

[0005] b) providing a main seam securing the first covering and the second covering together, the main seam comprising a first main seam line and a second main seam line, the first main seam line forming a seam angle of between 30 degrees and 150 degrees relative to the second main seam line, the first covering having a first main margin between the main seam and the first edge, the second covering having a second main margin extending between the main seam and the second edge,

[0006] c) turning over the first covering and the second covering, the first covering having a first peripheral border, folded and adjacent to the first main margin, the second covering having a second peripheral border, folded and adjacent to the second main margin, then

[0007] d) making a secondary seam securing the first covering and the second covering, the secondary seam comprising a first secondary seam line and a second secondary seam line, the first secondary seam line seam being parallel to the first main seam line and the second secondary seam line being parallel to the second main seam line,

[0008] e) inserting a filling between the first covering and the second covering, the filling comprising a (rigid) support and a secure mattress.

[0009] The secondary seam reinforces the main seam and visually allows the first peripheral edge to have the appearance of a braid. For all practical purposes, it is specified that the aforementioned operations are referenced by letters for easier reference, but this does not necessarily imply that the operations are successive and in alphabetical order.

[0010] According to another characteristic in accordance with the disclosure, preferably the first secondary seam line has a first end point and the second secondary seam has a second end point, the first end point and the second end point being distant from each other by a spacing (the first end point being closest to the second seam and the second end point being closest to the first seam, the first secondary seam line is distant from the second secondary seam by said spacing), so that during operation d), the first secondary seam line and the second secondary seam line are produced in a disjointed manner.

[0011] By providing the spacing between the first secondary seam line and the second secondary seam, a strong retention of the first coating in an area having irregularities is avoided due to the fact that it is in a corner and that the turning over of the first coating and the second coating locally generates excess thicknesses. The spacing between the first secondary seam line and the second secondary seam therefore avoids bringing out irregularities in appearance.

[0012] According to an additional characteristic, the spacing is preferably between 3 millimeters and 50 millimeters, more preferably between 15 millimeters and 30 millimeters.

[0013] According to another characteristic in accordance with the invention, preferably the first main seam line and the second main seam line intersect at a point of intersection and before operation c), a cut is made in the first main margin and the second main margin near the point of intersection.

[0014] This reduces the appearance irregularities due to the excess thicknesses generated by the turning and the sewing angle.

[0015] According to an additional characteristic in accordance with the present disclosure, the cutout preferably passes 3 millimeters or less from the point of intersection.

[0016] According to an alternative or complementary characteristic in accordance with the disclosure, the cutting is preferably carried out along a (straight) cutting line.

[0017] This makes cutting easier while limiting excess thickness.

[0018] According to an additional characteristic in accordance with the present disclosure, the first beveled portion and the second beveled portion preferably form a cutting angle of between 60 degrees and 120 degrees, preferably between 80 degrees and 100 degrees relative to the bisector of the sewing angle.

[0019] This avoids a concentration of excess thicknesses.

[0020] According to another characteristic in accordance with the present disclosure, during operation d) the secondary seam is preferably carried out away from the first peripheral edge and the second peripheral edge (the main seam extends around the secondary seam).

[0021] This reduces the risk of creating aesthetic defects.

[0022] According to an additional characteristic, during operation d) the secondary seam is preferably carried out away from the first main margin and the second main margin.

[0023] Thus, a certain flexibility is provided in the support between the first covering and the second covering, which avoids the risk of rupture of the main seam, of the first covering or of the second covering in the event of heavy stress.

[0024] According to a further additional characteristic, during operation d), the secondary seam is preferably carried out by providing a first spacing relative to the first main margin (relative to the first edge) of less than 3 millimeters, preferably less than 2 millimeters and by providing a second spacing relative to the second main margin (relative to the second edge) of less than 3 millimeters, preferably less than 2 millimeters.

[0025] Thus, on the one hand the main seam and the main seam complement each other effectively, on the other hand a qualitative appearance is obtained aesthetically.

[0026] In various embodiments according to the disclosure, one and / or the other of the following provisions may optionally be further used:

[0027] during operation b), the first main margin has, perpendicular to the main seam, a first width of between 3 millimeters and 15 millimeters, preferably between 5 millimeters and 10 millimeters and the second main margin has, perpendicular to the main seam, a second width of between 3 millimeters and 15 millimeters, preferably between 5 millimeters and 10 millimeters;

[0028] in step b) the main seam is carried out continuously, without leaving any space between the first main seam line and the second main seam line;

[0029] the first edge comprises a first substantially rectilinear first edge portion and a second substantially rectilinear first edge portion, the second edge comprises a first substantially rectilinear second edge portion and a second substantially rectilinear second edge portion, and during operation a), the first first edge portion is arranged in correspondence with the first second edge portion and the second first edge portion is arranged in correspondence with the second second edge portion;

[0030] the first covering has a support portion delimited by the first peripheral edge and the second covering has a holding portion delimited by the second peripheral edge, and during operation c), the first reverse face of the support portion is brought opposite the second reverse face of the holding portion.

[0031] the method further comprises an operation f) in which the support of the upholstery is supported by a seat frame.

[0065] [Fig.l] illustrates a seat 100 comprising a seat 2, a backrest 4, a headrest 6 and slides 8. The seat 2, the backrest 4 and the headrest 6 each constitute a seat element 1. The seat 2 comprises a seat cover 55, a seat frame 56 and a seat upholstery 57. The backrest 4 comprises a frame 58, an upholstery 50 and a cover 5. The seat frame 56 forms a rigid structure supporting the seat upholstery 57 and intended to be connected to a vehicle floor via the slides 8. The seat upholstery 57 is covered by the seat cover 55. The frame 58 forms a rigid structure connected to the seat frame 56 by a joint. The headrest 6 is mounted on the frame 58. The upholstery 50 is carried by the frame 58 and covered by the cover 5.

[0066] Hereinafter, the backrest 4 will be referred to as the seat element 1, but it could be referred to analogously as the seat 2 or the headrest 6.

[0067] As illustrated in particular in [Fig.2], the lining 50 comprises a support 52 and padding 54. The support 52 is rigid and supported by the frame 58. In the illustrated embodiment, the support 52 is formed by a plate connected to the frame by connecting elements 60. In the illustrated embodiment, the connecting elements 60 fix the plate to the frame 58. Alternatively, the connecting elements 60 could be articulated relative to the plate and / or to the frame 58. The plate may comprise several portions having possibilities of movement, in particular in rotation, relative to each other.

[0068] The padding 54 is made of a non-compact material such as foam, in particular polyurethane, or made of an entanglement of threads, in particular polymer material, preferably polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

[0069] The cover 5 comprises a first covering 10 and a second covering 20 fixed together and forming a sort of sock slipped over the lining 50. The first covering 10 and the second covering 20 are each preferably formed by a complex comprising a fabric and a thin layer of foam glued to the fabric, as is usually known.

[0070] As illustrated in particular in Figures 2 to 4, the first covering 10 has a first right side face 10a and a first reverse side face 10b. The first right side face 10a is intended essentially to come into contact with a user, while the first reverse side face 10b is essentially in contact with the padding 54. The first covering 10 has a first edge 12 extending over its entire periphery. The first edge 12 comprises two first first edge portions 12a and two second first edge portions 12b extending between the two first first edge portions 12a. The first first edge portions 12a are substantially rectilinear. Similarly, the two second first edge portions 12b are substantially rectilinear. In the exemplary embodiment, the first first edge portions 12a extend longitudinally, substantially vertically, on each side of the backrest.The second first edge portions 12b extend transversely, respectively at the top and bottom of the backrest 4. The second first edge portion 12b extending at the bottom of the backrest 4 may be omitted or be very restricted.

[0071] The second coating has a second right side face 20a and a second reverse side face 20b. The second right side face 20a is intended, for the most part, to be visible to a user, while the second reverse side face 20b is for the most part opposite the first reverse side face 10a and in contact with the support 52. The second coating 20 has a second edge 22 extending over its entire periphery. The second edge 22 comprises two first second edge portions 22a and two second second edge portions 22b extending between the two first second edge portions 22a. The first second edge portions 22a are sen ably rectilinear. Similarly, the two second portions of second edge 22b are substantially rectilinear. In the exemplary embodiment, the first portions of second edge 22a extend longitudinally, substantially vertically, on each side of the backrest. The second portions of second edge 22b extend transversely, respectively at the top and bottom of the backrest 4. The second portion of second edge 22b extending at the bottom of the backrest 4 may be omitted or be very restricted.

[0072] The seat element 1 having a central plane of symmetry, in the following, reference will only be made to one of the two first portions of first edge 12a and one of the two first portions of second edge 22a, more precisely that located on the right side of the backrest. Similarly, reference will only be made to one of the two second portions of first edge 12b and one of the two second portions of second edge 22b, more precisely that located at the top of the backrest 4.

[0073] The cap 5 further comprises a main seam 30. The main seam 30 secures the first covering 10 and the second covering 20 together. The main seam 30 comprises a first main seam line 32 and a second main seam line 34. The first main seam line 32 and the second main seam line 34 intersect at an intersection point 31. The main seam 30 is continuous, with no gap between the first main seam line 32 and the second main seam line 34. Therefore, the intersection point 31 constitutes a change point of direction change of the main seam 30. The first main seam line 32 forms a seam angle a of between 30 degrees and 150 degrees relative to the second main seam line, preferably between 60 degrees and 120 degrees.In the illustrated embodiment, the sewing angle a is substantially equal to 90 degrees.

[0074] The first covering 10 has a first main margin 14 between the main seam 30 and the first edge 12. The second covering 20 has a second main margin 24 extending between the main seam 30 and the second edge 22. The first right side 10a of the first main margin 14 faces the second right side 20a of the second main margin 24. The first main margin 14 has, perpendicular to the main seam 30, a first width 11 that is substantially constant. The second main margin 24 has, perpendicular to the main seam 30, a second width 12 equal to the first width 11 and substantially constant. Consequently, the first edge 12 extends opposite the second edge 22. The first width 11 and the second width 12 are between 3 millimeters and 15 millimeters, preferably between 5 millimeters and 10 millimeters.

[0075] The cap 5 further comprises a secondary seam 40 securing the first covering 10 and the second covering 20. The secondary seam 40 comprises a first secondary seam line 42 and a second secondary seam line 44. The first secondary seam line 42 is parallel to the first main seam line 32 and the second secondary seam line 44 is parallel to the second main seam line 34.

[0076] The first covering 10 has a first peripheral edge 16, folded over and adjacent to the first main margin 14. The first peripheral edge 16 extends between the main seam 30 and the secondary seam 40. The second covering 20 has a second peripheral edge 26, folded over and adjacent to the second main margin 24. The second peripheral edge 26 extends between the main seam 30 and the secondary seam 40. The first peripheral edge 16 and the first main margin 14 form a first hem. The second peripheral edge 26 and the second main margin 24 form a second hem.

[0077] The first covering 10 has a support portion 18 delimited, more precisely surrounded, by the first peripheral edge 16. The second covering 20 has a holding portion 28 delimited by the second peripheral edge 26. The first reverse face 10b of the support portion 18 is opposite the second reverse face 20b of the holding portion 28.

[0078] The secondary seam 40 is discontinuous. The first secondary seam line 42 is distant from the second secondary seam line 44. The first secondary seam line 42 has a first end point 43 forming a bartack and the second secondary seam line 44 has a second end point 45 forming a bartack. The first end point 43 and the second end point 45 are distant from each other by a spacing e. The spacing e is between 3 and 50 millimeters, preferably between 15 and 30 millimeters.

[0079] The main seam 10 is arranged around the secondary seam 40. Furthermore, the secondary seam 40 only passes once through the first covering 10 and once through the second covering 20. Indeed, the secondary seam 40 is away from the first main margin 14 and the second main margin 24.

[0080] However, the secondary seam 40 is close to the first edge 12 and the second edge 22. The secondary seam 40 has a first spacing E1 relative to the first main margin 14. The secondary seam 40 has a second spacing E2 relative to the second main margin 24. The first spacing E1 and the second spacing E2 are each less than 3 millimeters, preferably less than 2 millimeters.

[0081] Figures 5 to 8 illustrate operations for producing the seat element 1.

[0082] As illustrated in [Fig.5], the first coating 10 is positioned opposite the second coating 20. The first right face 10a is arranged opposite the second right face 20a. In particular, the first portion of first edge 12a is arranged in correspondence with the first portion of second edge 22a and the second portion of first edge 12b is arranged in correspondence with the second portion of second edge 22b.

[0083] Then, as illustrated in [Fig.6], the first main stitching line 32 is produced in a rectilinear manner, substantially parallel to the first portion of first edge 12a and to the first portion of second edge 22a, offset by the first width 11 relative to the first portion of first edge 12a and by the second width 12 relative to the first portion of second edge 22a. Upon reaching the point of intersection 31, i.e. at the first width 11 relative to the second portion of first edge 12b and at the second width 12 relative to the second portion of second edge 22b, the first main stitching line 32 is stopped. A rotation of the stitching angle a is then carried out, then the second main stitching line 34 is then carried out in a substantially rectilinear manner, parallel to the second portion of first edge 12b and to the second portion of second edge 22b.

[0084] Then, as illustrated in [Fig.7], a cut 38 is made in the first main margin 14 and in the second main margin 24, near the intersection point 31. In the embodiment illustrated in [Fig.7], which the cut 38 is made in a rectilinear manner, following a (straight) cutting line 36. The cutting line 36 forms a cutting angle [3 with respect to the bisector 37 of the sewing angle a. The cutting angle [3 is between 60 degrees and 120 degrees, preferably between 80 degrees and 100 degrees, substantially equal to 90 degrees in the embodiment illustrated. A first beveled portion 11 is thus created in the first coating 10 and a second beveled portion 21 is created in the second coating 20.The first beveled portion 11 and the second beveled portion 21 approach within 3 millimeters or less of the intersection point 31, substantially within 1 millimeter of the intersection point 31 in the illustrated embodiment.

[0085] Then, as illustrated in [Fig.7] by arrows 46 and 48, the first covering 10 and the second covering 20 are turned over (180 degrees) around the main seam 30.

[0086] Then, as illustrated in [Fig.8], the secondary seam 40 is made. The first secondary seam line 42 is made parallel to the first main seam line 32, away from the first main margin 14 of the first spacing E1 and the second main margin 24 of the second spacing E2. The first secondary seam line 42 is stopped upon reaching the first end point 43 and a stop point is created, in other words several stitching points are created back from the first end point 43.

[0087] The secondary seam 40 is taken up at the second end point 45, providing the spacing e with respect to the first end point 43. The spacing e is between 3 millimeters and 50 millimeters, preferably between 15 millimeters and 30 millimeters. In the illustrated embodiment, the spacing e is substantially equal to 20 millimeters. A backstitch is created, then the second secondary seam line 44 is made parallel to the second main seam line 34. This creates the first peripheral edge 16, the support portion 18, the second peripheral edge 26 and the holding portion 28. The first peripheral edge 16 is folded back, adjacent to the first main margin 14 and extends between the main seam 30 and the secondary seam 40. The second peripheral edge 26 is folded back, adjacent to the second main margin 24 and extends between the main seam 30 and the secondary seam 40.

[0088] The support portion 18 is delimited by the first peripheral edge 16 and the holding portion 28 is delimited by the second peripheral edge 26. The first reverse face 10b of the support portion 18 is opposite the second reverse face 20b of the holding portion 28.

[0089] The cap 5 is thus produced.

[0090] Then, the lining 50 is inserted between the first covering 10 and the second covering 20. More precisely, the padding 54 is placed on the support 52 and the cover 5 is slipped onto the lining 50. Then (or beforehand), the support 52 is connected to the frame 58 by the connecting elements 60.
