Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: MOTOR VEHICLE WITH STEERING WHEEL FEATURING AN ILLUMINATED PART Scope of the invention
[0001] The invention relates to a motor vehicle, in particular, comprising a steering wheel with an illuminated emblem. Previous art
[0002] Motor vehicles are usually equipped with a plurality of controls and mechanisms which are used by a driver or by passengers for various purposes, which may relate to the activation or performance of basic or auxiliary functions of the motor vehicle, or to the locking or unlocking of locks or other controls of the motor vehicle.
[0003] Typically, the driver becomes aware of the use of the controls and mechanisms mentioned above simply by directly observing their effect or at most by means of the lighting of lights or indicators present on a dashboard, or by means of information emitted on the screens of a human-machine interface of the motor vehicle.
[0004] In general, there is a need not only to increase the immediacy of a response from the correct use of controls and mechanisms as much as possible, but also to provide the response in order to generate positive environmental sensations on the driver which result in greater comfort and a feeling of pleasure when using the motor vehicle.
[0005] One object of the invention is to satisfy the above-mentioned requirement, preferably in a simple and repeatable manner. Description of the invention
[0006] The goal is achieved by a motor vehicle comprising a steering wheel, in which the steering wheel includes a transparent part and a light-emitting device configured to illuminate the transparent part, the motor vehicle comprising another device distinct from the light-emitting device and configured to cause the emission of a lighting control signal in response to the realization of a function of the other device, in which the light-emitting device is configured to illuminate the transparent part in response to the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0007] Dependent claims define particular embodiments of the invention. Brief description of the drawings
[0008] In the following section, an embodiment of the invention is described for a better understanding thereof by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: [Fig.1] Fig.1 is a perspective view of a motor vehicle according to the invention; [Fig. 2] Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle in Fig. 1, in which a dashboard and steering wheel are visible; and [Fig.3] [Fig.3] is identical to [Fig.2], with a larger view of the passenger compartment and the presence of seats and passengers in the motor vehicle. Embodiments of the invention
[0009] In [Fig.1], the reference number 1 is used to indicate, as a whole, a motor vehicle.
[0010] The motor vehicle 1 has a passenger compartment 2 shown in [Fig.2]. The passenger compartment 2 is equipped with a steering wheel 3 and a dashboard 3b, both of which are part of the motor vehicle 1.
[0011] Furthermore, the motor vehicle 1 comprises a body 4 defining the passenger compartment 2 internally and a door 5, for example a side door. The door 5 is coupled to the body 4 in a movable manner relative to the body 4 between at least a closed configuration, in which it closes or occupies an opening in the body, and an open configuration, in which it provides access to the opening for a user of the motor vehicle 1.
[0012] The steering wheel 3 includes a transparent part 10 and a light-emitting device 11 configured to illuminate the transparent part 10.
[0013] In more detail, the light emitted by the light-emitting device 11 is transmitted through the transparent part 10, in order to be visible to the driver.
[0014] Thus, the driver perceives that the transparent part 10 is illuminated.
[0015] The light-emitting device 11 is configured to illuminate the transparent part in response to the emission of a lighting control signal from one or more appropriate devices of the motor vehicle 1, the devices being distinct from the light-emitting device 11 itself.
[0016] In other words, the emission of the lighting control signal can occur due to at least one of the devices of the motor vehicle 1, which will be described in more detail below. Therefore, each of these devices is configured to trigger the emission of the lighting control signal in response to the performance of its specific function.
[0017] For the sake of clarity, the devices for the emission of the lighting control signal will be designated, below, as activation devices.
[0018] In more detail, each of the activation devices includes an ECU control unit, which may be the same for all the activation devices or for some of the activation devices themselves, or may be dedicated to the corresponding activation device.
[0019] The ECU control unit is configured to detect the realization of the specific function of the corresponding activation device or to emit the lighting control signal when it determines the realization of the specific function, i.e. in response to the determination of the realization of the specific function.
[0020] The light-emitting device 11 is coupled to the ECU control unit in order to receive the lighting control signal emitted by the ECU control unit and illuminate the transparent part 10 accordingly.
[0021] The light-emitting device 11 may be of a known type and is therefore illustrated schematically only. The light-emitting device 11 may be positioned behind the transparent part 10, for example, so that the transparent part 10 acts as a screen for the light-emitting device 11.
[0022] For example, the light-emitting device 11 may include an LED matrix behind the transparent part 10. In addition, the light-emitting device 11 may include one or more light filters, optionally colored, between the LED matrix and the transparent part 10.
[0023] Taking into consideration the above part, the transparent part 10 can be considered as forming an integral part of the light-emitting device 11.
[0024] Preferably, the steering wheel 3 includes an airbag module having an external cover comprising the transparent part 10. Alternatively or in addition, the part 10 is constituted by the external cover itself.
[0025] In particular, the transparent part 10 and / or the light-emitting device 11 are designed to break in a controlled manner in response to a predetermined load, for example, a load corresponding to the activation of the airbag module. Furthermore, the transparent part 10 and / or the light-emitting device 11 are designed, for example, through the appropriate selection of materials, shapes, and dimensions, so as not to be detrimental to the user in front of the steering wheel 3.
[0026] For the sake of clarity, the term transparent should be understood to mean that it has a certain degree of transparency, which may be equal to or less than 100%, but not zero. In other words, part 10 is not completely opaque or reflective; that is, it allows the transmission of light through it.
[0027] Preferably, part 10 is translucent, that is to say, it allows the transmission of light through it, but it does not allow the driver to clearly distinguish what is behind part 10 itself, in particular when the light-emitting device 11 is off, i.e., when it does not emit light or illuminate part 10.
[0028] The internal features of the steering wheel airbag module 3, apart from the external cover with the transparent part 10 and the light-emitting device 11, may have a commonly known function and be known in themselves, which is why they will not be described in more detail.
[0029] Preferably, the steering wheel 3 includes an emblem 12 on the transparent part 10. The emblem 12 is arranged so as to be illuminated by the light-emitting device 11 when the latter illuminates the transparent part 10.
[0030] Now, each of the activation devices is presented in more detail.
[0031] For example, the activation device includes a locking group 13 configured to perform at least one function among allowing the door 5 to be hooked to the body 4, holding the door 5 to the body 4, and releasing the door 5 from the body 4.
[0032] More specifically, the locking group 13 includes a fixed latching interface to the body 4 and configured to cooperate with a corresponding latching device for the door 5 in the closed configuration, thus achieving the latching of the door 5 with the body 4.
[0033] In addition, the locking group 13 includes, in particular, a release device (not shown), which is configured to interact with the latching interface and the latching device in order to release them from each other, so that the user can bring the door 5 into the open position. For example, the release device can be operated by the user by means of a handle 14 on the door 5 or another suitable user-operable device.
[0034] In addition, the locking group 13 includes a lock that can be controlled to selectively hold and release the door 5 in the closed configuration, or when it is hooked to the crate 4, relative to the crate 4.
[0035] Here, in particular, the term "maintain" is understood to mean that the door 5 is subsequently locked in the closed position with an additional constraint compared to simply attaching the door 5 to the body 4 through the interaction between the latching interface and the latching device. On the other hand, the term "release" here refers to the removal of the aforementioned additional constraint.
[0036] In other words, the user cannot unhook the door 5 from the body 4, for example by means of the unhooking device, without having first ordered the lock to release door 5 from box 4, that is, without having removed the additional constraint provided by the lock.
[0037] The user can control the locking group 13 or more precisely the lock to selectively hold and release the door 5, in particular, when the door 5 is in the closed configuration or hooked to the body 4, by means of at least one suitable control group of the motor vehicle 1. In other words, the control group can be used by the user to control the locking group 13 or more precisely the lock to selectively hold and release the door 5.
[0038] For example, the control group may include one or more controls 15 arranged inside the passenger compartment 2 (for example buttons) and configured to control the locking group 13 or more specifically the lock to selectively hold and release the door 5.
[0039] Alternatively or in addition, the control group may include a portable control 16, for example a remote control, which can be carried by the user even outside the passenger compartment 2. The portable control 16 is also configured to control the locking group 13 or more precisely the lock to selectively hold and release the door 5.
[0040] The control group or more particularly one of its components is configured or can be controlled, that is to say to emit or carry out an emission of a locking control signal to control the locking group 13 or the lock.
[0041] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered when or in response to the locking group 13 releasing or holding the door 5 relative to the body 4, or when or in response to the door 5 latching onto the body 4.
[0042] More specifically, the lighting control signal is triggered in response to a command from the locking group 13 to release or hold the door 5 against the body 4 via the controls 15, the handheld control 16, or more generally, the control group. In other words, the lighting control signal is triggered in response to the locking control signal.
[0043] More specifically, the ECU control unit is configured to detect or determine an event defined by: the release of the door 5 from the body 4 by means of the locking group 13, in particular controlled by means of the control group or one of its components; or the retention of the door 5 to the body 4 by means of the locking group 13, in particular controlled by means of the control group or one of its components; or the engagement of door 5 to body 4, in particular through the cooperation of the latching interface and the latching device.
[0044] So the ECU control unit is configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to the detection or determination of the event, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0045] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular one function among the attachment of the door 5 to the body, the retention of the door 5 to the body 4 and the release of the door 5 from the body 4.
[0046] According to another example, the activation device includes a sensor 17 configured to detect the fact that the user touches a part of the steering wheel 3, in particular including or defined by the part 10. In other words, the part of the steering wheel 3 is touch-sensitive by means of the sensor 17.
[0047] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered when or in response to the sensor 17 detecting the user's touch.
[0048] More specifically, the sensor 17 is configured to emit a touch signal indicative of the manifestation of touch; furthermore, the ECU control unit is coupled to the sensor 17 and is configured to receive the touch signal.
[0049] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to receiving the touch signal, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0050] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the user's touch.
[0051] According to another example, the activation device includes a pedal 18 configured to accelerate or brake the motor vehicle, or to control a clutch of the motor vehicle. In practice, the pedal 18 is one of an accelerator pedal, a brake pedal, and a clutch pedal of the motor vehicle 1.
[0052] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered in response to the compression of pedal 18.
[0053] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to pedal 18 and is configured to detect compression of pedal 18.
[0054] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to the detection of pedal compression 18, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0055] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the compression of the pedal 18.
[0056] According to another example, the activation device includes a sensor 19 configured to detect a level of brightness external to the motor vehicle 1. The level is higher when the environment outside the motor vehicle 1 is bright.
[0057] The lighting control signal is triggered when, or in response to, the external brightness level detected by sensor 19 falling below a threshold, in particular corresponding to a standard brightness value after sunset. In practice, the external brightness level falls below the threshold after sunset, i.e., in the evening and at night, and before sunrise, or in any case in places that are always dark, such as in a tunnel.
[0058] More specifically, the sensor 19 is configured to emit an external brightness signal associated with the detected external brightness level; furthermore, the ECU control unit is coupled to the sensor 19 and is configured to determine the external brightness level of the external brightness signal.
[0059] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal when or in response to it determining that the determined external brightness level is below the threshold.
[0060] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular to detect the moment when the external brightness level is below the threshold.
[0061] According to another example, the activation device comprises a control 20 configured to switch on and / or off not only an engine of the motor vehicle 1, but optionally also, or alternatively, a human-machine interface of the motor vehicle. In practice, the control 20 is the typical start control, for example implemented as a button.
[0062] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered in response to an actuation of the control 20, which can be for a command between turning the motor on and off or a command between turning the human-machine interface on and off.
[0063] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to control 20 and is configured to detect the actuation of control 20.
[0064] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to the detection of the actuation of control 20, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0065] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular to detect the actuation of the control 20.
[0066] According to another example, the activation device includes a sensor 21 configured to detect the presence of the user in the passenger compartment 2. For example, the sensor 21 can be configured to detect an indicative value of the weight exerted on a seat 22 of the motor vehicle 1 inside the passenger compartment 2; thus, the sensor 21 detects the presence of the user when the detected quantity indicates that the weight on seat 22 exceeds a threshold, in particular, corresponding to the weight of a person.
[0067] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered when or in response to the sensor 21 detecting the presence of the user.
[0068] More specifically, the sensor 21 is configured to emit a presence detection signal in response to the detection of the user's presence.
[0069] The ECU control unit is coupled to sensor 21 and is configured to receive the presence detection signal from sensor 21.
[0070] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal when or in response to receiving the presence detection signal from sensor 21.
[0071] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular to detect the presence of the user in the passenger compartment 2.
[0072] According to another example, the activation device includes a seat belt 23 which can be fastened to restrain the user on the seat 22. The seat belt 23 is in itself a known safety device typical for motor vehicles, which is why it will not be described in more detail.
[0073] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered in response to the fastening of the seat belt 23 or when the seat belt 23 is fastened.
[0074] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the seat belt 23 and is configured to detect the attachment of the seat belt 23.
[0075] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to the detection of the attachment of the seat belt 23, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0076] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular to detect the attachment of the seat belt 23.
[0077] According to another example, the activation device includes a light adjustment group 24 that can be operated to modify a setting of a lighting group 25 of the motor vehicle 1.
[0078] In particular, the lighting group 25 may include one or more internal or ambient lights 26 inside the passenger compartment 2 to illuminate the passenger compartment, and / or headlights or lights 27 to illuminate the exterior of the motor vehicle 1, including, for example, high beams, low beams, fog lights, position lights and the like.
[0079] The light adjustment group 24 may include one or more controls 28 that can be used by the user to change the group's setting lighting 25, that is to say more specifically not only to selectively switch on and off the internal or ambient lights 26 and / or the headlights or lights 27, but also to adjust their light output when they are switched on.
[0080] The controls 28 may include buttons, levers, dials, touch-sensitive elements, switches, and any type of control known per se. Preferably, the controls 28 are located inside the passenger compartment 2.
[0081] In other words, changing the setting of the lighting group 25 means switching on or off or adjusting the light emission, for example in terms of light intensity, emission frequency, color of light, direction of light, and the like, of at least one of the headlights or lights 27 and the interior or ambient lights 26 by means of the light setting group 24 or more precisely by means of a corresponding control of the controls 28.
[0082] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered in response to an actuation of the light control group 24, i.e. in response to a change in the setting of the lighting group 25, where the change may consist of turning on, off or adjusting the light emission of one of the headlights or lights 27 and the internal or ambient lights 26, in particular through the corresponding control of the controls 28.
[0083] More specifically, the ECU control unit can be coupled to the light adjustment group 24 and / or the lighting group 25. In addition, the ECU control unit is configured to determine or detect a change in the setting of the lighting group 25, for example with regard to the detection of the change itself by the lighting group 25 or by detecting an actuation of the light adjustment group 24, that is to say more precisely a use of one of the controls 28 to change the setting of the lighting group 25.
[0084] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to the detection or determination of a change in the setting of lighting group 25.
[0085] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular to detect the change in the setting of the lighting group 25.
[0086] According to another example, the activation device includes a parking brake 29 that can be activated to immobilize the motor vehicle 1 during a stop. The parking brake 29 may be a component known in itself in motor vehicles, which is why it will not be described in further detail. The parking brake 29 can also be deactivated to remove the immobilization of the motor vehicle 1.
[0087] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered in response to a deactivation of the parking brake 29.
[0088] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the parking brake 29 and is configured to detect the deactivation of the parking brake 29.
[0089] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to the detection of the deactivation of the parking brake 29, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0090] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular that of detecting the deactivation of the parking brake 29.
[0091] According to another example, the activation device includes a voice receiver 30 configured to detect a voice command from the user to request the illumination of the transparent part 10. The voice command can be a specific instruction uniquely recognizable by the voice receiver 30, or any coded instruction recognizable by the voice receiver 30.
[0092] The lighting control signal is emitted when the voice receiver 30 detects the voice command to illuminate the transparent part, i.e., in response to the detection of the voice command. The voice receiver 30 can be part of, for example, the human-machine interface of the motor vehicle 1.
[0093] More specifically, the voice receiver 30 emits a voice recognition signal in response to the detection of the voice command. The ECU control unit is coupled to the voice receiver 30 and is configured to receive the voice recognition signal.
[0094] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to receiving the voice recognition signal, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0095] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular to detect the user's voice command to request the lighting of the transparent part 10.
[0096] According to another example, the activation device includes a gearbox 31 that can be operated to set a transmission ratio, i.e. a ratio, between an engine of the motor vehicle 1 and an axle of the motor vehicle 1.
[0097] The gearbox 31 allows, in particular, the setting of one from a discrete plurality of transmission ratios or gear ratios. More specifically, the gearbox 31 includes a gear selector 32, for example a gear-shift lever, located in the passenger compartment 2 and which can be manipulated or used by the user to set or select one of the gear ratios.
[0098] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered in response to an actuation of the gearbox 31, i.e. to the setting of a ratio, in particular via the gear selector 32.
[0099] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the gearbox 31 or more precisely to the gear selector 32 and is configured to detect the actuation of the gearbox 31 or the gear selector 32, i.e. the setting of a ratio, in particular, by means of the gear selector 32.
[0100] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to the detection of the actuation of the gearbox 31 or the gear selector 32, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0101] Here, the specific function of the activation device is in particular to detect the actuation of the gearbox 31 or the gear selector 32.
[0102] According to another example, the activation device includes an electrical charger 33, that is, a device configured to supply the electrical charge as an output. The electrical charger 33 can be coupled to an electrical energy storage device 40, such as a battery or a capacitor, for example, a cellular device, a portable computer, or any other electrical or electronic device that can be recharged with the electrical charge. The electrical charger 33 is configured to supply the electrical charge to the electrical energy storage device, that is, to recharge the electrical energy storage device, when coupled to it. The coupling can take place via a physical coupling interface of the electrical charger 33, such as an electrical charge output gate, or wirelessly, including magnetic coupling.
[0103] Preferably, the electric charger 33 is located inside the passenger compartment 2.
[0104] The emission of the lighting control signal is triggered in response to coupling the electric charger 33 to the electrical energy storage device.
[0105] More specifically, the ECU control unit is coupled to the electric charger 33 and is configured to detect the coupling of the electric charger 33 to the electrical energy storage device.
[0106] The ECU control unit is further configured to emit the lighting control signal in response to the detection of coupling of the electric charger 33 to the electrical energy storage device, so that the activation device causes the emission of the lighting control signal.
[0107] Here, the specific function of the activation device is, in particular, to detect the coupling of the electric charger 33 to the electrical energy storage device.
[0108] From the foregoing, the advantages of the motor vehicle 1 according to the invention are clear.
[0109] The user has an optimal perception of the performance of the specific functions of the activation devices since the steering wheel 3 is illuminated by means of the transparent part 10 and the light-emitting device 11.
[0110] In particular, the light emitted by the light-emitting device 11 and transmitted through the transparent part 10 enters directly into the user's primary cone of vision, thus stimulating the user's attention in an improved manner compared to the known technique.
[0111] It is finally clear that modifications and variants can be made to the motor vehicle 1, according to the invention, which however do not fall outside the scope of protection defined by the claims.
