Abstract

The invention relates to a process and installation for producing liquid methane and liquid carbon dioxide from a feed gas comprising methane and carbon dioxide, in particular biogas. The process utilizes a carbon dioxide liquefaction unit comprising a first cold source and a methane liquefaction unit comprising a second cold source separate from the first. Prior to liquefying the first methane-rich gas stream, the process includes a step of cooling the first methane-rich gas stream by heat exchange with the first cold source, in particular to a temperature between -30 °C and -60 °C, preferably -40 °C.
