Abstract

Method of providing an evidence-based protocolised recommendation, comprising: obtaining an unstructured free text report; analysing the unstructured free text report using a natural language processing algorithm to extract data; exporting a structured data file; and analysing the structured data file within an application; wherein the application is configured to generate a protocolised recommendation mapped to predetermined guidelines, on the basis of evidence contained within the structured data file. A communication may be generated and sent to convey the protocolised recommendation to a recipient. The natural language processing algorithm may be a rule-based algorithm. It may be a machine learning algorithm. The application may be web-based, and may comprise an application programming interface, which may automate a clinical decision support system mapped to the predetermined guidelines. The unstructured report may comprise an electronic health record. The predetermined guidelines may be medical guidelines. A human user may provide an input; select the unstructured free text report; review or modify the structured data file; or manually import the structured data file into the application. Also disclosed is a system for performing the method.

Claims

1. A method of providing an evidence-based protocolised recommendation comprising:obtaining an unstructured free text report;analysing the unstructured free text report using a natural language processing algorithm to extract data;exporting a structured data file; andanalysing the structured data file within an application;wherein the application is configured to generate a protocolised recommendation mapped to predetermined guidelines, on the basis of evidence contained within the structured data file.2 The method according to claim 1, wherein the natural language processing algorithm is a rule-based algorithm.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the natural language processing algorithm is a machine learning algorithm.

4. The method according to any preceding claim, wherein the application is a web-based application.

5. The method according to any preceding claim, wherein the structured data file is imported into a relational database management system within the application.

6. The method according to any preceding claim, wherein the application comprises an application programming interface.

7. The method according to claim 6, wherein the application programming interface automates a clinical decision support system mapped to the predetermined guidelines.

8. The method according to any preceding claim, wherein the application comprises a user interface.

9. The method according to any preceding claim, wherein the unstructured free text report comprises an electronic health record.

10. The method according to any preceding claim, wherein the predetermined guidelines are medical guidelines.

11. The method according to any preceding claim, further comprising generating and sending a communication conveying the protocolised recommendation to a recipient.

12. The method according to claim 11, wherein the communication comprises one of a letter, email, or text message.

13. The method according to any proceeding claim, wherein at least one human user provides at least one input.

14. The method according to claim 13, wherein the at least one human user selects the unstructured free text report.

15. The method according to claim 13 or claim 14, wherein the at least one human user reviews and / or modifies the structured data file.

16. The method according to any of claims 13 to 15, wherein the at least one human user manually imports the structured data file into the application.

17. A system for providing an evidence-based protocolised recommendation comprising:a repository containing an unstructured free text report; anda processing system arranged to operate:a natural language processing algorithm configured to extract data from the unstructured free text report and to export a structured data file; andan application configured to analyse the structured data file to generate a protocolised recommendation mapped to predetermined guidelines, on the basis of evidence contained within the structured data file.

18. The system according to claim 17, wherein the repository is one of a library, database, server, or physical memory device.

19. The system according to claim 17 or claim 18, further comprising a computer.

20. The system according to claim 19, wherein the computer is configured toimplement the natural language processing algorithm.

21. The system according to any of claims 17 to 20, further comprising a network.

22. The system according to claim 21, wherein the network is connected to the internet.

523. The system according to any of claims 17 to 22, further comprising a cloud computing platform.

24. The system according to claim 23, wherein the application is hosted on the 10 cloud computing platform.
