Patient isolation structure

Abstract

The patient isolation structure has a cover 10 sealed to a base 18, where the cover has an access port 60 in which a pressure monitor (200, figure 7) is mounted. The pressure monitor alerts or alarms if the difference between the pressure within the patient isolation structure and the surrounding atmosphere is not within a preset limit. Also disclosed is a patient isolation structure having a cover sealed to a base that has a pressure inside the structure of 22 to 34 Pascals below the pressure outside the cover. This negative pressure range may avoid the build-up of excess carbon dioxide inside the structure as excess may be discharged through filters 65. The pressure monitor may have a peripheral flange (210, figure 7) to engage against a rim of the port with a seal 214 ensuring a gas tight fitting. The pressure monitor may receive and retransmit output from another patient monitor.
