Abstract
Description
The Unipants is a new utility underwear to meet the needs of the Elderly, Disabled, Blind and the Sick, who, as a Disadvantaged Group, have difficulties putting on the conventional underwear, also known as nickers, briefs, panties, underpants, boxer shorts, thong, etc. Its overall design is based on the contours of the lower part of the human body like the conventional underwear which comes in all styles, shapes, and sizes. The Unipants will now be described by way of example with references to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1: Shows oblique view of the fully designed Unipants. Figure 2: Shows pattern example of the Unipants’ two main components: the Back Panel with Elasticated waistband adjoining the Front Panel. Figure 3: Shows a pattern of the Unipants with two straps; assigned the name, Belt-Straps, attached to each end of the Back Panel Waist band - one longer than the other. Figure 4: Shows the position of an absorbent, attachable and replaceable pad on the pattern of the Unipants. Figure 5: Shows Fasteners attached to the Unipants. Figure 6: Shows how the Back Panel is wrapped around the waist. Figure 7: shows how the Front Panel is in position ready to attach to the Belt-Strap. DESCRIPTION An example of designing and wearing the Unipants can now be described as follows: A pattern is cut out of any suitable material such as fabric, silk, wool, leather, rubber, etc; and sown to specified style, shape and size of the Unipants; as illustrated in example Fig.2. The two Belt-Straps 1& 2 as shown in Fig.3, can be made of the same material and can be sown permanently to each end of the elasticated waistband 3 of Back Panel or made detachable by means of any suitable form of fasteners, e.g. Velcro (Hook and Loop), Buttons, etc. However, while the two Belt-straps are the utilitarian components in the design of the Unipants, they can be replaced by means of two simple straps with any suitable fasteners, e.g., Buttons, Velcro, Buckles, Hook and Bar, etc. which fasten the two ends to each other to enable the Front Panel with its fasterners to be attached to the simple straps. A third option might be two long cords which hold the Unipants in position by means of a knot to enable the Front Panel with an extended Flap and Velcro to be folded round the Cords. The last two options can be achieved with minor technical alterations to meet variety of needs without compromising the easiness of use of the Unipants. The Unipants comes with attachable, detachable, replaceable absorbent pad 6 which can be held in place by means of Velcro, as illustrated in Fig.4 The positions of the fasteners are marked out on the pattern prior to attachment; depending on style, shape, and size of the Unipants as illustrated in Fig. 5 which also depicts 4B as the Back of the long Belt-strap and 4F as the Front of the long Belt-strap. The types of fasteners to use depend on specified style, shape, size, and the end-user as illustrated in example Fig 5. While a mix of Snap plastic Fasteners 7,8,9&10 and Velcro 11 are used for this Unipants as illustrated in example Fig.5; other fasteners such as Zippers, Buttons, Buckles or any other suitable fastener or mix of fasteners can equally do the job depending on specified style, shape, size of the Unipants for the end user. Once the fasteners are attached in their various positions as illustrated in Example Fig 5, it means the Unipants is ready to be worn like underwear by the end user. The wearer (enduser), while standing straight, holds both ends of the Belt-straps in one hand and then passes the short or long end of Belt-strap behind the waist for the other hand; making sure the Back Panel is behind the bottom facing the right way. With both hands holding the two separated ends of the Belt-straps, pull the longer end to fasten onto the short end of the Belt-strap. Fig 6 shows how the Back Panel is fastened round the waist by means of the Belt Strap. The Front Panel of the Unipants now hangs behind the thighs. Slightly open the thighs and pull the Front Panel up through to cover the front and attach it to the Belt Strap and other designated points, as illustrated in Fig.7. The Wing ends 12 &13 (Fig. 5) of both Back and Front Panels can be stuck together by means of Velcro depending on style, shape and size of the Unipants. The Unipants can be adjusted in position for comfort.
