Computer game controller tracking system

Abstract

At least one computer game controller device 4, preferably in the form of a light-gun in a shooting-type video game, has an infra-red sensor and one or more data processing devices. An image projection screen 8 has an array of marker devices 10 arranged to be illuminated by infra-red radiation. A calibration device 14 has a further data processing device and one or more sensors to detect visible light and infra-red radiation, the calibration device serving to calculate positional offsets of the array of marker devices relative to an image projected on the projection screen using the detected light and radiation and pass this data to the controller to enable it to calculate its precise position relative to the display screen. A game console or server 12 controls the image displayed and provides in-game communication with the controller. [Fig.1]
