Abstract

A separation mechanism for a multi-stage air vehicle, the separation mechanism comprising a first component 310 for attaching to a first stage of the multistage air vehicle, and a second component 320 for attaching to a second stage of the multistage air vehicle, the first and second components comprising mutually cooperating outer parts; the mechanism comprising one or more locking lugs 330 arranged, in a joined state, to engage the outer parts of both the first and the second components so as to mechanically join the first and second components, and an activation mechanism 360 operable to allow the locking lugs to move inwardly to a released state in which the first component is released form the second component.
