In other words, an embodiment that does not exhibit the effects mentioned in each of the exemplary embodiments shown below may also be included in the scope of the present invention.

[0016] First Exemplary Embodiment A first exemplary embodiment, which is an example of an embodiment of the present invention, will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. This exemplary embodiment is the basic form of each exemplary embodiment described later. The scope of application of each technical means adopted in this exemplary embodiment is not limited to this exemplary embodiment. That is, each technical means adopted in this exemplary embodiment can be adopted in other exemplary embodiments included in this disclosure to the extent that no particular technical obstacle occurs. [0017] (Configuration of communication terminal 1) The configuration of the communication terminal 1 will be described with reference to Fig. 1. Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the communication terminal 1. As shown in Fig. 1, the communication terminal 1 includes an antenna unit 11, an information acquisition unit 12, and a communication control unit 13. The information acquisition unit 12 and the communication control unit 13 are components that respectively realize an information acquisition means and a communication control means in this exemplary embodiment.

[0018] The antenna unit 11 includes one or more antennas and is configured so that the directivity can be controlled. As an example, the antenna unit 11 is a multi-element antenna.

[0019] The information acquisition unit 12 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 11 to a first directivity, and acquires information indicating the position of the base station from the base station via the antenna unit 11. The first directivity is not limited, but an example thereof is the widest directivity among directivities capable of establishing communication with the base station.

[0020] The communication control unit 13 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 11 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and communicates with the base station via the antenna unit 11. Specifically, the communication control unit 13 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station and the communication terminal 1 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 12, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 1. For example, the communication control unit 13 may determine the main direction of the second directivity to be the direction from the communication terminal 1 corresponding to the above-mentioned relative position to the base station. In addition, the communication control unit 13 may determine the width of the second directivity (for example, the beam half width) to be the narrowest allowable directivity among the directivities that are narrower than the first directivity and can establish communication with the base station taking into account the moving speed of the communication terminal 1. For example, the second directivity may be narrowed as the moving speed of the communication terminal 1 is slower.

[0021] (Effect of communication terminal 1) As described above, the communication terminal 1 is configured to include an antenna unit 11 capable of controlling directivity, an information acquisition unit 12 that controls the directivity of the antenna unit 11 to a first directivity and acquires information indicating the position of the base station from the base station via the antenna unit 11, and a communication control unit 13 that controls the directivity of the antenna unit 11 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity and communicates with the base station via the antenna unit 11. The communication control unit 13 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station and the communication terminal 1 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 12 and the moving speed of the communication terminal. Therefore, the communication terminal 1 has an effect of shortening the time required to set the antenna directivity to a setting suitable for communication.

[0022] (Flow of communication control method S1) The flow of a communication control method S1 executed by a communication terminal 1 having an antenna unit 11 capable of controlling directivity will be described with reference to Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a flow diagram showing the flow of the communication control method S1. As shown in Fig. 2, the communication control method S1 includes an information acquisition process S11 and a communication control process S12.

[0023] (Step S11) In step S11, the information acquisition unit 12 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 11 to a first directivity, and acquires, from the base station via the antenna unit 11, information indicating the position of the base station.

[0024] (Step S12) In step S12, the communication control unit 13 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 11 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and communicates with the base station via the antenna unit 11. Specifically, in step S12, the communication control unit 13 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station and the communication terminal 1 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 12, and the moving speed of the communication terminal.

[0025] (Effects of communication control method S1) As described above, the communication control method S1 executed by the communication terminal 1 having the antenna unit 11 capable of controlling the directivity includes a step S11 in which the information acquisition unit 12 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 11 to a first directivity and acquires information indicating the position of the base station from the base station via the antenna unit 11, and a step S12 in which the communication control unit 13 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 11 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity and communicates with the base station via the antenna unit 11. In addition, in step S12, the communication control unit 13 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station and the communication terminal 1 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 12 and the moving speed of the communication terminal. Therefore, according to the communication control method S1, the same effect as that of the above-mentioned communication terminal 1 can be obtained.

[0026] (Configuration of base station 2) The configuration of the base station 2 will be described with reference to Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the base station 2. As shown in Fig. 3, the base station 2 includes an information acquisition unit 21 and an instruction unit 22. The information acquisition unit 21 and the instruction unit 22 are components that respectively realize an information acquisition means and an instruction means in this exemplary embodiment.

[0027] The information acquisition unit 21 acquires, from a communication terminal equipped with an antenna unit whose directivity can be controlled, information indicating a first directivity of the antenna unit, the position of the communication terminal, and the moving speed of the communication terminal when the communication terminal is communicating with a base station 2.

[0028] The instruction unit 22 controls the directivity of the antenna unit of the communication terminal to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and instructs the communication terminal to communicate with the base station 2 via the antenna unit. Specifically, the instruction unit 22 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 2 and the communication terminal based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 21, and the moving speed of the communication terminal.

[0029] (Effect of base station 2) As described above, the base station 2 is configured to include an information acquisition unit 21 that acquires information indicating a first directivity of the antenna unit, a position of the communication terminal, and a moving speed of the communication terminal when the communication terminal is communicating with the base station 2 from a communication terminal equipped with an antenna unit capable of controlling directivity, and an instruction unit 22 that controls the directivity of the antenna unit to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and instructs the communication terminal to communicate with the base station 2 via the antenna unit. The instruction unit 22 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 2 and the communication terminal based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 21, and the moving speed of the communication terminal. Therefore, the base station 2 can obtain the same effect as the above-mentioned communication terminal 1.

[0030] (Flow of communication control method S2) The flow of the communication control method S2 executed by the base station will be described with reference to Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a flow diagram showing the flow of the communication control method S2. As shown in Fig. 4, the communication control method S2 includes an information acquisition process S21 and an instruction process S22.

[0031] (Step S21) In step S21, the information acquisition unit 21 acquires information from a communication terminal equipped with an antenna unit whose directivity can be controlled, indicating a first directivity of the antenna unit, the position of the communication terminal, and the moving speed of the communication terminal when the communication terminal is communicating with a base station 2.

[0032] (Step S22) In step S22, the instruction unit 22 controls the directivity of the antenna unit to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and instructs the communication terminal to communicate with the base station 2 via the antenna unit. Specifically, in step S22, the instruction unit 22 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 2 and the communication terminal based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 21, and the moving speed of the communication terminal.

[0033] (Effects of communication control method S2) As described above, the communication control method S2 includes a step S21 in which the information acquisition unit 21 acquires information indicating a first directivity of the antenna unit, a position of the communication terminal, and a moving speed of the communication terminal when the communication terminal is communicating with the base station 2 from a communication terminal equipped with an antenna unit capable of controlling directivity, and a step S22 in which the instruction unit 22 controls the directivity of the antenna unit to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and instructs the communication terminal to communicate with the base station 2 via the antenna unit. In addition, in step S22, the instruction unit 22 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 2 and the communication terminal based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 21, and the moving speed of the communication terminal. Therefore, according to the communication control method S2, the same effect as that of the above-mentioned communication terminal 1 can be obtained.

[0034] (Configuration of communication system 100) The configuration of the communication system 100 will be described with reference to Fig. 5. Fig. 5 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the communication system 100. As shown in Fig. 5, the communication system 100 includes a communication terminal 3 and a base station 4.

[0035] 5, the communication terminal 3 includes an antenna unit 31, an information acquisition unit 32, and a communication control unit 33. In this exemplary embodiment, the information acquisition unit 32 and the communication control unit 33 are components that respectively realize an information acquisition means and a communication control means.

[0036] The antenna unit 31 is an antenna whose directivity can be controlled.

[0037] The information acquisition unit 32 controls the directivity to a first directivity, and acquires information indicating the position of the base station 4 from the base station 4 via the antenna unit 31.

[0038] The communication control unit 33 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and communicates with the base station 4 via the antenna unit 31. Specifically, the communication control unit 33 determines the second directivity based on the relative positions between the base station 4 and the communication terminal 3 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 32, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3.

[0039] 5, the base station 4 includes an information output unit 41. The information output unit 41 is configured to realize information output means in this exemplary embodiment.

[0040] The information output unit 41 outputs information indicating the position of the base station 4 to the communication terminal 3 .

[0041] (Effects of the communication system 100) As described above, the communication system 100 employs a configuration including the communication terminal 3 and the base station 4.

[0042] The communication terminal 3 is configured to include an antenna unit 31 capable of controlling directivity, an information acquisition unit 32 that controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a first directivity and acquires information indicating the position of the base station 4 from the base station 4 via the antenna unit 31, and a communication control unit 33 that controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity and communicates with the base station 4 via the antenna unit 31. The communication control unit 33 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 4 and the communication terminal 3 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 32 and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3.

[0043] The base station 4 employs a configuration including an information output unit 41 that outputs information indicating the position of the base station 4 to the communication terminal 3.

[0044] Therefore, according to the communication system 100, the same effects as those of the above-mentioned communication terminal 1 can be obtained.

[0046] (Step S101) In step S 101 , the information output unit 41 of the base station 4 outputs information indicating the position of the base station 4 to the communication terminal 3 .

[0047] (Step S102) In step S102, the information acquisition unit 32 of the communication terminal 3 equipped with an antenna unit 31 whose directivity is controllable controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a first directivity and acquires information indicating the position of the base station 4 from the base station 4 via the antenna unit 31.

[0048] (Step S103) In step S103, the communication control unit 33 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and communicates with the base station 4 via the antenna unit 31. Specifically, in step S103, the communication control unit 33 determines the second directivity based on the relative positions between the base station 4 and the communication terminal 3 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 32, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3.

[0049] (Effects of communication control method S100) As described above, the communication control method S100 employs a configuration including step S101 in which the information output unit 41 of the base station 4 outputs information indicating the position of the base station 4 to the communication terminal 3.

[0050] Moreover, the communication control method S100 employs a configuration including a step S102 in which an information acquisition unit 32 of a communication terminal 3 equipped with an antenna unit 31 capable of controlling directivity controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a first directivity and acquires information indicating the position of the base station 4 from the base station 4 via the antenna unit 31, and a step S103 in which a communication control unit 33 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity and communicates with the base station 4 via the antenna unit 31. Furthermore, in step S103, the communication control unit 33 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 4 and the communication terminal 3 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 32 and the movement speed of the communication terminal 3.

[0072] Moreover, the communication control method S200 employs a configuration including step S202 in which the information acquisition unit 61 of the base station 6 acquires information indicating a first directivity, a position of the communication terminal 5, and a moving speed of the communication terminal 5 from the communication terminal 5, and step S203 in which the instruction unit 62 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 51 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and instructs the communication terminal 5 to communicate with the base station 6 via the antenna unit 51. Furthermore, in step S203, the instruction unit 62 determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 6 and the communication terminal 5 based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 61, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 5.

[0073] In addition, the communication control method S200 employs a configuration including a step S204 in which the reception unit 53 of the communication terminal 5 receives instructions from the base station 6, and a step S205 in which the communication control unit 54 controls the directivity of the antenna unit 51 in accordance with the instructions received by the reception unit 53, and communicates with the base station 6 via the antenna unit 51.

[0074] Therefore, according to the communication control method S200, the same effects as those of the above-mentioned communication terminal 1 can be obtained.

[0075] Second Exemplary Embodiment A second exemplary embodiment, which is an example of an embodiment of the present invention, will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. The scope of application of each technical means adopted in this exemplary embodiment is not limited to this exemplary embodiment. That is, each technical means adopted in this exemplary embodiment can be adopted in other exemplary embodiments included in this disclosure, as long as no particular technical hindrance occurs. In addition, each technical means shown in each drawing referred to for explaining this exemplary embodiment can be adopted in other exemplary embodiments included in this disclosure, as long as no particular technical hindrance occurs.

[0076] (Configuration of communication system 110) The configuration of communication system 110 will be described with reference to Fig. 9. Fig. 9 is a block diagram showing the configuration of communication system 110.

[0077] As shown in Fig. 9, the communication system 110 includes a communication terminal 3A and a base station 4A. In the communication system 110, the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A can transmit and receive data to and from each other via wireless communication. In Fig. 9, there is one communication terminal 3A and one base station 4A, but the number of communication terminals 3A and base stations 4A included in the communication system 110 is not limited, and the communication system 110 may include a plurality of communication terminals 3A and base stations 4A.

[0078] (Overview of communication system 110) An overview of the communication system 110 will be described with reference to Fig. 10. Fig. 10 is a diagram showing an overview of the communication system 110.

[0079] The communication terminal 3A includes an antenna unit (an antenna unit 31 described later) capable of controlling directivity. The communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A shown in Fig. 10 communicate with each other using one of 64QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), 16QAM, QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), and BPSK (Binary Phase Shift Keying) as an example of a modulation method.

[0080] First, the communication terminal 3A attempts to establish communication with the base station 4A by controlling the directivity of the antenna unit to a wide directivity (as an example, the widest directivity) as shown in the upper part of Fig. 10. With this configuration, the communication terminal 3A can easily find the base station 4A.

[0081] Furthermore, when the communication terminal 3A attempts to establish communication with the base station 4A, the communication between the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A uses a modulation method with a small modulation multi-level number (in other words, a modulation method with a long communication distance; in FIG. 10, BPSK is used as an example) as shown in the upper part of FIG. 10. This configuration allows the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A to easily establish communication. Furthermore, the directivity of the antenna unit of the communication terminal 3A when the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A establish communication is referred to as a first directivity. The first directivity is as described above.

[0082] When communication is established between the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A, the base station 4A outputs information indicating the location of the base station 4A to the communication terminal 3A, as shown in the upper part of Fig. 10. When the communication terminal 3A acquires the information indicating the location of the base station 4A, the communication terminal 3A controls the directivity of the antenna unit to a directivity narrower than the first directivity based on the information and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A, as shown in the lower part of Fig. 10, and communicates with the base station 4A. In this configuration, the directivity narrower than the first directivity of the communication terminal 3A is referred to as the second directivity. The second directivity is as described above.

[0083] Furthermore, when the communication terminal 3A communicates with the base station 4A using the second directivity, the communication between the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A uses a modulation scheme with a large modulation multi-level number (in other words, a modulation scheme with high throughput, 64QAM as an example in FIG. 10) as shown in the lower part of Fig. 10. With this configuration, it is possible to achieve high throughput in the communication between the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A.

[0084] (Configuration of communication terminal 3A) As shown in FIG. 9, the communication terminal 3A includes a control unit 37 and a storage unit 38 in addition to the antenna unit 31 included in the communication terminal 3.

[0085] As described above, the antenna unit 31 is an antenna unit capable of controlling directivity. A specific example of the antenna unit 31 is a multi-element antenna, but is not limited thereto. The communication terminal 3A performs wireless communication with the base station 4A via the antenna unit 31.

[0086] The storage unit 38 stores data referenced by the control unit 37. Examples of data stored in the storage unit 38 include, but are not limited to, radio wave maps and maps showing radio wave conditions for each location. Examples of radio wave conditions include, but are not limited to, reception power. Examples of the storage unit 38 include, but are not limited to, flash memory, HDD (Hard Disk Drive), SSD (Solid State Drive), or a combination thereof.

[0087] (Control unit 37) The control unit 37 controls each component included in the communication terminal 3A. As shown in Fig. 9, the control unit 37 includes an information acquisition unit 32A, a communication control unit 33A, an estimation unit 34, an update unit 35, and an output unit 36. In this exemplary embodiment, the information acquisition unit 32A, the communication control unit 33A, the estimation unit 34, and the update unit 35 are configured to realize an information acquisition means, a communication control means, an estimation means, and an update means, respectively.

[0088] The information acquisition unit 32A controls the antenna unit 31 to acquire information from the base station 4A. As one example, the information acquisition unit 32A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a first directivity, and acquires information indicating the position of the base station 4A from the base station 4A via the antenna unit 31. As another example, the information acquisition unit 32A acquires a radio wave map from the base station 4A.

[0089] The communication control unit 33A controls communication with the base station 4A. As an example, the communication control unit 33A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a first directivity, and establishes communication with the base station 4A via the antenna unit 31.

[0090] Furthermore, the communication control unit 33A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and communicates with the base station 4A via the antenna unit 31. More specifically, the communication control unit 33A determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 32A, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A. The communication control unit 33A may calculate the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A based on information acquired from a sensor not shown in FIG. 9.

[0091] Furthermore, the communication control unit 33A may determine the second directivity based on the attitude of the communication terminal 3A in addition to the relative positions between the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A. As an example, when the attitude of the communication terminal 3A is such that radio waves cannot be received in a predetermined direction, the communication control unit 33A communicates with the base station 4A in a direction different from the predetermined direction.

[0092] Furthermore, the communication control unit 33A determines a communication method for communication with the base station 4A via the antenna unit 31 based on the relative positions of the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A. Examples of the communication method include, but are not limited to, a modulation method (e.g., 64QAM, 16QAM, QPSK, BPSK) and an error correction rate. The process executed by the communication control unit 33A will be described later.

[0093] The estimation unit 34 estimates the destination of the communication terminal 3A after a predetermined time. As an example, the estimation unit 34 estimates the destination of the communication terminal 3A after a predetermined time by referring to the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A, a map stored in the storage unit 38, and information indicating the position of the communication terminal 3A. An example of the information indicating the position of the communication terminal 3A is a GPS (Global Positioning System) signal.

[0094] For example, if the position of the communications terminal 3A is along a road, the estimation unit 34 estimates the position of the communications terminal 3A when it moves along the road at the moving speed of the communications terminal 3A for a predetermined time as the destination of the communications terminal 3A after the predetermined time.

[0095] The update unit 35 updates the radio wave map stored in the storage unit 38. As one example, the update unit 35 updates the radio wave map by associating the current reception power of the communication terminal 3A with the current location of the communication terminal 3A in the radio wave map. As another example, the update unit 35 updates the radio wave map stored in the storage unit 38 to the radio wave map acquired by the information acquisition unit 32A from the base station 4A.

[0096] Furthermore, the update unit 35 may associate a position on the radio wave map with the settings of the communication terminal 3A. As one example, the update unit 35 may associate a position on the radio wave map with a communication method by which the communication terminal 3A communicates with the base station 4A at that position. As another example, the update unit 35 may associate a position on the radio wave map with a communication method by which the communication terminal 3A was unable to communicate with the base station 4A at that position.

[0097] The output unit 36 outputs information to the base station 4A. As an example, the output unit 36 outputs information indicating the current location of the communication terminal 3A and the current reception power of the communication terminal 3A to the base station 4A.

[0098] (Configuration of base station 4A) The base station 4A includes a control unit 44, an antenna unit 45, and a storage unit .

[0099] The antenna unit 45 is an antenna for wireless communication with the communication terminal 3 A. The base station 4 A performs wireless communication with the communication terminal 3 A via the antenna unit 45.

[0100] The storage unit 46 stores data referenced by the control unit 44. Examples of data stored in the storage unit 46 include information indicating the position of the base station 4A and the radio wave map described above. Examples of the storage unit 46 include, but are not limited to, a flash memory, a HDD, an SSD, or a combination thereof.

[0101] (Control unit 44) The control unit 44 controls each component included in the base station 4A. As shown in Fig. 9, the control unit 44 includes an information output unit 41A, a communication control unit 42, and an update unit 43. In this exemplary embodiment, the information output unit 41A, the communication control unit 42, and the update unit 43 are configured to realize an information output means, a communication control means, and an update means, respectively.

[0102] The information output unit 41A outputs information to the communication terminal 3A. As one example, the information output unit 41A outputs information indicating the position of the base station 4A to the communication terminal 3A. As another example, the information output unit 41A outputs a radio wave map stored in the storage unit 46 to the communication terminal 3A.

[0103] The communication control unit 42 controls communication with the communication terminal 3 A. As an example, the communication control unit 42 establishes communication with the communication terminal 3 A via the antenna unit 45.

[0104] Furthermore, the communication control unit 42 determines a communication method for communication with the communication terminal 3A via the antenna unit 45. As an example, the communication control unit 42 acquires information on the channel state from the communication terminal 3A and determines the communication method based on the information. The process of determining the communication method by the communication control unit 42 will be described later.

[0105] The update unit 43 updates the radio wave map stored in the storage unit 46. As an example, the update unit 43 acquires information indicating the current location of the communication terminal 3A and the current reception power of the communication terminal 3A from the communication terminal 3A. The update unit 43 also updates the reception power at the location indicated by the acquired information in the radio wave map to the reception power indicated by the acquired information.

[0106] Furthermore, the update unit 43 may acquire information indicating the current location of the communication terminal 3A and the current reception power of the communication terminal 3A from each of the multiple communication terminals 3A. In this case, for a certain communication terminal 3A, the radio wave map becomes a radio wave map reflecting the radio wave conditions of the certain communication terminal 3A and the radio wave conditions of one or more other communication terminals 3A different from the certain communication terminal 3A. With this configuration, the update unit 43 can create a radio wave map reflecting the radio wave conditions of the multiple communication terminals 3A.

[0107] (Example 1 of a process in which the communication control unit 33A determines the second directivity) As an example of a process in which the communication control unit 33A determines the second directivity, the communication control unit 33A determines the second directivity using a learning model that receives at least the relative position between the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A as input and is trained to output the second directivity.

[0108] The learning model is generated by learning past communication situations as teacher data. As an example, the learning model learns the past relative positions between the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A, the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A, and the second directivity as a set of teacher data. One example of the learning model is a convolutional neural network (CNN).

[0109] In this way, the communication control unit 33A can suitably determine the second directivity by determining the second directivity using the learning model. In other words, the communication control unit 33A can determine a suitable second directivity without gradually widening the directivity from the first directivity to determine the second directivity. Therefore, the communication control unit 33A can shorten the time it takes to set the antenna directivity of the communication terminal 3A to a setting suitable for communication.

[0110] (Example 2 of process in which communication control unit 33A determines second directivity) Another example of the process in which the communication control unit 33A determines the second directivity is a process in which the communication control unit 33A determines the second directivity based on the relative positions between the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A, the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A, and a radio wave map stored in the storage unit 38 and indicating the radio wave conditions for each location. The radio wave map in this configuration may be a radio wave map generated by the communication terminal 3A or may be a radio wave map acquired from the base station 4A. When the communication control unit 33A uses the radio wave map acquired from the base station 4A, the communication control unit 33A can also refer to the radio wave conditions of other communication terminals 3A.

[0111] As an example of this configuration, assume that the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A is 0 (in other words, the communication terminal 3A is not moving). In this case, the communication control unit 33 acquires the radio wave conditions of the area where the communication terminal 3A is located from the radio wave map based on the relative positions of the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A. Next, the communication control unit 33 determines, from the radio wave conditions of the area where the communication terminal 3A is located, the narrowest directivity that allows communication with the base station 4A to be established in the radio wave conditions, as the second directivity.

[0112] In this way, the communication control unit 33A can suitably determine the second directivity by determining the second directivity based on the radio wave map.

[0113] As another example of this configuration, assume that the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A is other than 0 (in other words, the communication terminal 3A is moving). In this case, the communication control unit 33 acquires information indicating the destination of the communication terminal 3A after a predetermined time, which is estimated by the estimation unit 34. Next, the communication control unit 33 acquires the radio wave conditions of the area of the destination of the communication terminal 3A estimated by the estimation unit 34 from the radio wave map. Next, the communication control unit 33 refers to the radio wave map, and based on the radio wave conditions of the area of the destination of the communication terminal 3A estimated by the estimation unit 34, determines the narrowest directivity, which is a directivity that can establish communication with the base station 4A in the radio wave conditions, as the second directivity after the predetermined time.

[0114] In this way, even when the communication terminal 3A is moving, the communication control unit 33A can suitably determine the second directivity at the destination.

[0115] (Example 3 of process in which communication control unit 33A determines second directivity) As yet another example of a process in which the communication control unit 33A determines the second directivity, the communication control unit 33A determines the second directivity based on the relative position between the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A and the movement speed of the communication terminal 3A.

[0116] As an example, the communication control unit 33A determines the main direction of the second directivity so that the main direction of the second directivity is a direction from the communication terminal 3A corresponding to the relative position to the base station 4A.

[0117] As another example, the communication control unit 33A determines the width of the second directivity (e.g., beam half-width) according to the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A. For example, assume that the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A is greater than a predetermined value (when the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A is fast). In this case, the communication control unit 33A determines the widest directivity, which is narrower than the first directivity and allows the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A to establish communication, as the second directivity. As another example, assume that the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A is equal to or less than a predetermined value (when the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A is slow). In this case, the communication control unit 33A determines the narrowest directivity, which is narrower than the first directivity and allows the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A to establish communication, as the second directivity.

[0118] (Example 1 of a process in which the communication control unit 33A determines a communication method) As described above, the communication method may be determined by the communication control unit 33A of the communication terminal 3A or by the communication control unit 42 of the base station 4A. Here, an example of a process in which the communication control unit 33A of the communication terminal 3A determines the communication method will be described.

[0119] For example, when the base station 4A adaptively selects from a plurality of modulation methods and error correction rates for communication, the communication control unit 33A of the communication terminal 3A calculates the distance to the base station 4A from the relative positions of the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A. The communication control unit 33A determines the modulation method and error correction rate based on the calculated distance and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A.

[0120] As an example, when the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A is 0 (in other words, when the communication terminal 3A is not moving), the communication control unit 33A determines a modulation method and an error correction rate according to the calculated distance. For example, the communication control unit 33A determines a modulation method with a smaller modulation multi-level number (in other words, a modulation method with a slower communication speed) and a higher error correction rate as the calculated distance is longer. On the other hand, the communication control unit 33A determines a modulation method with a larger modulation multi-level number (in other words, a modulation method with a faster communication speed) and a lower error correction rate as the calculated distance is shorter.

[0121] As another example, when the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A is other than 0 (in other words, when the communication terminal 3A is moving), the communication control unit 33A acquires information indicating the destination of the communication terminal 3A after a predetermined time, which is estimated by the estimation unit 34. Next, the communication control unit 33 acquires the radio wave conditions of the area of the destination of the communication terminal 3A, which is estimated by the estimation unit 34, from the radio wave map. Next, the communication control unit 33 refers to the radio wave map and determines the modulation method and the error correction rate. For example, when the radio wave conditions of the area of the destination of the communication terminal 3A, which is estimated by the estimation unit 34, are poor (for example, the received power is lower than a predetermined threshold), the communication control unit 33 determines a modulation method with a small modulation multi-level number and a high error correction rate. On the other hand, when the radio wave conditions of the area of the destination of the communication terminal 3A, which is estimated by the estimation unit 34, are good (for example, the received power is equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold), the communication control unit 33 determines a modulation method with a large modulation multi-level number and a low error correction rate.

[0122] As yet another example, the communication control unit 33A may determine the communication method using a learning model that is trained to receive at least the calculated distance and moving speed and output the communication method.

[0123] In this way, the communication control unit 33A of the communication terminal 3A determines the communication method for communication between the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A. Therefore, when the base station 4A adaptively selects from a plurality of modulation methods and error correction rates for communication, the communication control unit 33A can select an appropriate modulation method and error correction rate.

[0124] (Example 2 of a process in which the communication control unit 33A determines a communication method) The communication control unit 33A may be configured to monitor the quality of communication with the base station 4A. In this configuration, the communication control unit 33A determines the modulation method and the error correction rate according to the radio wave conditions. An example of the communication quality is the received power, but is not limited to this.

[0125] For example, when the radio wave condition with the base station 4A is below a threshold for a predetermined period, the communication control unit 33A determines a modulation method with a small modulation level and a high error correction rate. That is, when the communication quality with the base station 4A is below a threshold for a predetermined period, the communication control unit 33A determines the communication method with the base station 4A to be a communication method for low-speed and stable communication. In this case, after determining the communication method for low-speed and stable communication, the communication control unit 33A may gradually change the communication method to a communication method for high-speed communication at predetermined intervals.

[0126] (An example of a process in which the communication control unit 42 determines the communication method) Here, an example of a process in which the communication control unit 42 of the base station 4A determines the communication method will be described.

[0127] As an example, the communication control unit 42 acquires information on the channel state from the communication terminal 3A and determines the communication method based on the information. For example, when the information acquired from the communication terminal 3A indicates a communication quality below a threshold, the communication control unit 42 determines a modulation method with a small modulation level and a high error correction rate. On the other hand, when the information acquired from the communication terminal 3A indicates a communication quality above the threshold, the communication control unit 42 determines a modulation method with a small modulation level and a high error correction rate.

[0128] In this way, the communication control unit 42 of the base station 4A determines the communication method for communication between the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A. Therefore, the communication control unit 42 allows the communication terminal 3A and the base station 4A to communicate with each other using a suitable communication method.

[0129] (Flow of communication control method S110) The flow of the communication control method S110 executed in the communication system 110 will be described with reference to Fig. 11. Fig. 11 is a flow diagram showing the flow of the communication control method S110.

[0130] (Step S111) In step S111, the communication control unit 33A of the communication terminal 3A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to the first directivity, and establishes communication with the base station 4A via the antenna unit 31.

[0131] (Step S112) In step S112, the communication control unit 42 of the base station 4A establishes communication with the communication terminal 3A via the antenna unit 45.

[0132] (Step S113) In step S113, the information output unit 41A outputs information indicating the position of the base station 4A to the communication terminal 3A.

[0133] (Step S114) In step S114, the information acquisition unit 32A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to the first directivity, and acquires, via the antenna unit 31, information indicating the position of the base station 4A from the base station 4A.

[0134] (Step S115) In step S115, the communication control unit 33A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 31 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity based on the relative position between the base station 4A and the communication terminal 3A based on the position of the base station 4A and the moving speed of the communication terminal 3A, and communicates with the base station 4A via the antenna unit 31.

[0135] (Effects of the communication system 110) As described above, in communication system 110 including communication terminal 3A and base station 4A, communication terminal 3A determines the second directivity based on the relative position between base station 4A and communication terminal 3A based on information indicating the position of base station 4A obtained from base station 4A, and based on the moving speed of communication terminal 3A.

[0136] Therefore, in the communication system 110, a suitable second directivity is determined without gradually widening the directivity from the first directivity to determine the second directivity. Therefore, in the communication system 110, an effect is obtained in that it is possible to shorten the time required to set the antenna directivity of the communication terminal 3A to a setting suitable for communication.

[0137] Third Exemplary Embodiment A third exemplary embodiment, which is an example of an embodiment of the present invention, will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. Components having the same functions as those described in the above exemplary embodiment will be given the same reference numerals, and their description will be omitted as appropriate. The scope of application of each technical means employed in this exemplary embodiment is not limited to this exemplary embodiment. That is, each technical means employed in this exemplary embodiment can be employed in other exemplary embodiments included in this disclosure, as long as no particular technical hindrance occurs. In addition, each technical means shown in each drawing referred to for explaining this exemplary embodiment can be employed in other exemplary embodiments included in this disclosure, as long as no particular technical hindrance occurs.

[0138] (Configuration of communication system 210) The configuration of the communication system 210 will be described with reference to Fig. 12. Fig. 12 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the communication system 210.

[0139] 12, the communication system 210 includes a communication terminal 5A and a base station 6A. In the communication system 210, similar to the above-described communication system 110, the communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A can transmit and receive data to and from each other via wireless communication. Furthermore, the number of communication terminals 5A and base stations 6A included in the communication system 210 is not limited, and the communication system 210 may include a plurality of communication terminals 5A and base stations 6A.

[0140] (Overview of communication system 210) An overview of the communication system 210 will be described with reference to Fig. 13. Fig. 13 is a diagram showing an overview of the communication system 210.

[0141] The communication terminal 5A includes an antenna unit (an antenna unit 51 described later) capable of controlling directivity. The communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A shown in Fig. 13 communicate with each other using one of 64QAM, 16QAM, QPSK, and BPSK as an example of a modulation method.

[0142] First, the communication terminal 5A tries to establish communication with the base station 6A by controlling the directivity of the antenna unit to a wide directivity (the widest directivity as an example) as shown in the upper part of Fig. 13. With this configuration, the communication terminal 5A can easily find the base station 6A.

[0143] Furthermore, when the communication terminal 5A attempts to establish communication with the base station 6A, the communication between the communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A uses a modulation method with a small modulation multi-level number (in other words, a modulation method with a long communication distance, BPSK is used as an example in FIG. 13) as shown in the upper part of FIG. 13. This configuration allows the communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A to easily establish communication. Furthermore, similar to the above-mentioned embodiment, the directivity of the antenna of the communication terminal 5A when the communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A establish communication is referred to as a first directivity.

[0144] When communication terminal 5A and base station 6A establish communication, as shown in the upper part of Fig. 13, communication terminal 5A outputs information indicating the first directivity, the position of communication terminal 5A, and the moving speed of communication terminal 5A to base station 6A. When base station 6A acquires the information indicating the first directivity, the position of communication terminal 5A, and the moving speed of communication terminal 5A, it instructs communication terminal 5A. As an example, base station 6A controls the directivity of the antenna unit to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and instructs communication terminal 5A to communicate with base station 6A. Based on the instruction from base station 6A, communication terminal 5A controls the directivity of the antenna unit to the second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and communicates with base station 4A.

[0145] Furthermore, when the communication terminal 5A communicates with the base station 6A using the second directivity, the communication between the communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A uses a modulation scheme with a large modulation multi-level number (in other words, a modulation scheme with high throughput, 64QAM as an example in FIG. 13) as shown in the lower part of FIG. 13. With this configuration, it is possible to achieve high throughput in the communication between the communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A.

[0146] (Configuration of communication terminal 5A) As shown in FIG. 12, the communication terminal 5A includes a control unit 57 and a storage unit 58 in addition to the antenna unit 51 included in the communication terminal 5.

[0147] As described above, the antenna unit 51 is an antenna unit capable of controlling directivity. A specific example of the antenna unit 51 is a multi-element antenna, but is not limited thereto. The communication terminal 5A performs wireless communication with the base station 6A via the antenna unit 51.

[0148] The storage unit 58 stores data referenced by the control unit 57. The data and examples stored in the storage unit 58 are similar to those of the storage unit 38 described above.

[0149] (Control unit 57) The control unit 57 controls each component included in the communication terminal 5A. The control unit 57 also includes an information output unit 52A, a reception unit 53A, and a communication control unit 54A, as shown in Fig. 12. The information output unit 52A, the reception unit 53A, and the communication control unit 54A are components that respectively realize an information output means, a reception means, and a communication control means in this exemplary embodiment.

[0150] The information output unit 52A outputs information to the base station 6A. As an example, the information output unit 52A outputs information indicating the first directivity of the antenna unit 51, the position of the communication terminal 5A, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A to the base station 6A when the communication terminal 5A is communicating with the base station 6A. As another example, the information output unit 52A outputs information indicating the current position of the communication terminal 5A and the current reception power of the communication terminal 5A to the base station 6A. An example of the information indicating the position of the communication terminal 5A is a GPS signal. Also, the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A may be calculated based on information acquired from a sensor not shown in FIG. 12.

[0151] The reception unit 53A receives an instruction from the base station 6A. As an example, the reception unit 53A receives an instruction to control the directivity of the antenna unit 51 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity and to communicate with the base station 6A via the antenna unit 51.

[0152] The communication control unit 54A controls communication with the base station 6A. As an example, the communication control unit 54A controls the antenna unit 51 according to an instruction received by the reception unit 53A. For example, assume that the instruction received by the reception unit 53A is an instruction to control the directivity of the antenna unit 51 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity and to communicate with the base station 6A via the antenna unit 51. In this case, the communication control unit 54A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 51 to the second directivity narrower than the first directivity and communicates with the base station 6A via the antenna unit 51.

[0153] (Configuration of base station 6A) The base station 6 A includes a control unit 66 , an antenna unit 67 , and a storage unit 68 .

[0154] The antenna unit 67 is an antenna for wireless communication with the communication terminal 5 A. The base station 6A performs wireless communication with the communication terminal 5 A via the antenna unit 67.

[0155] The storage unit 68 stores data referenced by the control unit 66. Examples of data stored in the storage unit 68 include information acquired from the communication terminal 5A, information indicating the position of the base station 6A, and a radio wave map. Examples of the storage unit 68 include, but are not limited to, a flash memory, an HDD, an SSD, or a combination thereof.

[0156] (Control unit 66) The control unit 66 controls each component included in the base station 6A. As shown in Fig. 12, the control unit 66 includes an information acquisition unit 61A, an instruction unit 62A, a communication control unit 63, an estimation unit 64, and an update unit 65. In this exemplary embodiment, the information acquisition unit 61A, the instruction unit 62A, the communication control unit 63, and the update unit 65 are configured to realize an information acquisition means, an instruction means, a communication control means, and an update means, respectively.

[0157] The information acquisition unit 61A acquires information from the communication terminal 5A. As an example, the information acquisition unit 61A acquires information indicating the first directivity, the position of the communication terminal 5A, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A from the communication terminal 5A. The information acquisition unit 61A also acquires information indicating the current position of the communication terminal 5A and the current reception power of the communication terminal 5A from the communication terminal 5A.

[0158] The instruction unit 62A instructs the communication terminal 5A. As an example, the instruction unit 62A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 51 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity, and instructs the communication terminal 5A to communicate with the base station 6A via the antenna unit 51. An example of the process executed by the instruction unit 62A will be described later.

[0159] The communication control unit 63 controls communication with the communication terminal 5A, similar to the above-mentioned communication control unit 42. As an example, the communication control unit 63 determines the communication method for communication between the communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A based on the relative positions of the base station 6A and the communication terminal 5A and the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A, which are based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit 61A. The communication method is as described above.

[0160] The estimation unit 64 estimates the destination of the communication terminal 5A after a predetermined time, similar to the above-mentioned estimation unit 34. The example in which the estimation unit 64 estimates the destination of the communication terminal 5A after a predetermined time is as described above.

[0161] The update unit 65 updates the radio wave map stored in the storage unit 46, similar to the update unit 43 described above. As an example of the update unit 65 updating the radio wave map, similar to the example described above, the update unit 65 first acquires information indicating the position and reception power of the communication terminal 5A acquired by the information acquisition unit 61A from the communication terminal 5A. Then, the update unit 65 updates the radio wave map based on the information indicating the position and reception power of the communication terminal 5A. With this configuration, the update unit 65 can create a radio wave map that reflects the radio wave conditions of the communication terminal 3A.

[0162] (Example 1 of a process in which the instruction unit 62A determines the second directivity) One example of a process in which the instruction unit 62A determines the second directivity is a process in which the instruction unit 62A determines the second directivity using a learning model that is trained to output the second directivity by inputting at least the first directivity, the relative position between the base station 6A and the communication terminal 5A, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A.

[0163] The learning model is generated by learning past communication conditions as teacher data. As an example, the learning model learns a past first directivity, a past relative position between the base station 6A and the communication terminal 5A, a moving speed of the communication terminal 5A, and a second directivity as a set of teacher data. One example of the learning model is CNN.

[0164] In this way, the instruction unit 62A can suitably determine the second directivity by determining the second directivity using the learning model. In other words, the instruction unit 62A can determine a suitable second directivity without gradually widening the directivity from the first directivity to determine the second directivity. Therefore, the instruction unit 62A can shorten the time until the antenna directivity of the communication terminal 5A is set to a setting suitable for communication.

[0165] (Example 2 of process in which the instruction unit 62A determines the second directivity) Another example of a process in which the instruction unit 62A determines the second directivity is a process in which the instruction unit 62A determines the second directivity based on the first directivity, the relative position between the base station 6A and the communication terminal 5A, the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A, and a radio wave map stored in the memory unit 46 that indicates the radio wave conditions for each location.

[0166] As an example of this configuration, assume that the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A is 0 (in other words, the communication terminal 5A is not moving). In this case, the instruction unit 62A acquires the radio wave conditions of the area where the communication terminal 5A is located from a radio wave map. Next, the instruction unit 62A determines, from the radio wave conditions of the area where the communication terminal 5A is located, the narrowest directivity that is narrower than the first directivity and allows communication to be established with the base station 6A in the radio wave conditions, as the second directivity.

[0167] As another example of this configuration, a case where the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A is other than 0 (in other words, the communication terminal 5A is moving) is assumed. In this case, the instruction unit 62A acquires information indicating the destination of the communication terminal 5A after a predetermined time, which is estimated by the estimation unit 64. Next, the instruction unit 62A acquires the radio wave conditions of the area of the destination of the communication terminal 5A estimated by the estimation unit 64 from the radio wave map. Next, the instruction unit 62A refers to the radio wave map and determines, based on the radio wave conditions of the area of the destination of the communication terminal 5A estimated by the estimation unit 64, the narrowest directivity that is narrower than the first directivity and allows communication with the base station 6A to be established in the radio wave conditions, as the second directivity after the predetermined time.

[0168] In this way, the instruction unit 62A can suitably determine the second directivity by determining the second directivity based on the radio wave map. In other words, the instruction unit 62A can determine a suitable second directivity without gradually widening the directivity from the first directivity to determine the second directivity. Therefore, the instruction unit 62A can shorten the time required to set the antenna directivity of the communication terminal 5A to a setting suitable for communication.

[0169] (Flow of communication control method S210) The flow of the communication control method S210 executed in the communication system 210 will be described with reference to Fig. 14. Fig. 14 is a flow diagram showing the flow of the communication control method S210.

[0170] (Step S211) In step S211, the communication control unit 54A of the communication terminal 5A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 51 to the first directivity, and establishes communication with the base station 6A via the antenna unit 51.

[0171] (Step S212) In step S212, the communication control unit 63 of the base station 6A establishes communication with the communication terminal 5A via the antenna unit 67.

[0172] (Step S213) In step S213, the information output unit 52A of the communication terminal 5A outputs to the base station 6A information indicating the first directivity of the antenna unit 51, the position of the communication terminal 5A, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A when the communication terminal 5A is communicating with the base station 6A.

[0173] (Step S214) In step S214, the information acquisition unit 61A of the base station 6A acquires information from the communication terminal 5A indicating the first directivity of the antenna unit 51, the position of the communication terminal 5A, and the moving speed of the communication terminal 5A when the communication terminal 5A is communicating with the base station 6A.

[0174] (Step S215) In step S215, the instruction unit 62A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 51 to a second directivity narrower than the first directivity based on the relative position between the base station 6A and the communication terminal 5A based on the position of the communication terminal 5A and the movement speed of the communication terminal 5A, and instructs the communication terminal 5A to communicate with the base station 6A via the antenna unit 51.

[0175] (Step S216) In step S216, the reception unit 53A of the communication terminal 5A receives the instruction from the base station 6A.

[0176] (Step S217) In step S217, the communication control unit 54A controls the directivity of the antenna unit 51 in accordance with the instruction received by the reception unit 53A, and communicates with the base station 6A via the antenna unit 51.

[0177] (Effects of the communication system 210) As described above, in the communication system 210 including the communication terminal 5A and the base station 6A, the base station 4A determines the second directivity based on information indicating the first directivity, the position of the communication terminal 5A, and the movement speed of the communication terminal 5A obtained from the communication terminal 5A.

[0178] Therefore, in the communication system 210, a suitable second directivity is determined without gradually widening the directivity from the first directivity to determine the second directivity. Therefore, in the communication system 210, an effect is obtained in that it is possible to shorten the time until the antenna directivity of the communication terminal 5A is set to a setting suitable for communication.
