Description

[Technical Field]

[0001] SUMMARY The present disclosure relates to hard packaged safety needle devices. [Background technology]

[0002] Clean or sterile items, particularly those useful in medical applications, are packaged to preserve their sterility. The packaging for these items is intended to provide a barrier to prevent microorganisms from entering the package and contaminating the contents. In most cases, the packaging is opened just before the item is used, such as a blister pack containing a syringe or needle, to minimize the time the item is exposed to non-sterile conditions. After the needle is used, the packaging is discarded separately from the needle.

[0003] Needle devices are used throughout the medical industry for the injection and withdrawal of various fluids and solutions into the human body. Due to the numerous potential hazards associated with handling and manipulating bodily fluids, particularly blood, there are several known safety features that are frequently incorporated into various types of needle devices to protect users from accidental exposure to the needle.

[0004] A "traditional" hypodermic needle is removed from its blister package, the needle shield is removed, and the plastic hub is then attached to a Luer-lock or Luer-slip syringe. The medication is then extracted from the vial and administered to the patient via injection. The needle is then either discarded or capped using the recommended capping method and then discarded. Safety needles, on the other hand, have an additional step in which an additional component, a safety shield, is deployed to permanently "encase" the needle, thereby rendering it inaccessible. This prevents the needle from being reused and also contributes to the safety of healthcare workers by protecting them from contaminated needlestick injuries.

[0005] This additional step is made possible by either a unique hub design that serves as a base for attaching the safety mechanism, or a highly complex safety shield mechanism. This hub is bulky and difficult to mold compared to conventional needle hubs. Similarly, the safety mechanism itself is composed of difficult-to-mold and bulky parts. The needle shield is made of thick-walled plastic to protect the needle from damage prior to use. Additionally, the needle shield that protects the needle prior to use finds no utility after use and is discarded without adding to the use of plastic.

[0006] Such features are limited in their purpose. The needle shield provides protection during shipping and storage and plays no role in the safety function of the device. The safety shield is a complex molded part that contacts the needle hub, and the connection of the safety shield to the needle hub is also complex molded, resulting in high costs for the two components. Therefore, there is a need to provide a safety needle device that incorporates features of both a needle shield and a safety shield while reducing manufacturing costs, including material and molding complexity. Additionally, there is a need to provide a rigid needle enclosure or rigid needle cover that provides sterility of the needle and eliminates the need for a blister pack. Summary of the Invention
