Abstract

To improve the controllability of ships using joysticks. [Solution] The ship steering system 100 comprises a plurality of ship propulsion units 1a, 1b, a joystick 26, a setting device 27, and a controller 30. The joystick 26 can be tilted in the longitudinal direction and in the lateral direction intersecting the longitudinal direction. The setting device 27 can select one of a plurality of thrust modes, including a restricted mode in which the forward thrust output from the plurality of ship propulsion units 1a, 1b is restricted in response to the forward tilting operation of the joystick 26 and the reverse thrust output from the plurality of ship propulsion units 1a, 1b is restricted in response to the rearward tilting operation of the joystick, and an unrestricted mode in which at least one of the forward thrust and reverse thrust is not restricted. The controller 30 controls the rudder angle and output of the plurality of ship propulsion units 1a, 1b according to the thrust mode and the tilting direction and amount of the joystick 26.
