Abstract

To provide a metal composite hydroxide that can be used as a precursor material for lithium metal composite oxides, which can suppress the deterioration of cycle characteristics when used as a positive electrode active material in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. [Solution] The nickel-containing hydroxide powder according to this disclosure has a D50 of 5 μm or more and 20 μm or less, a span of 0.8 or more and 2 or less, and a crystallinity variation index of 0.25 or less. When the powder is classified into three parts such that the D50 of the first classified powder F having the smallest average particle size is equal to the D10 of the nickel-containing hydroxide powder, and the D50 of the third classified powder G having the largest average particle size is equal to the D90 of the nickel-containing hydroxide powder, the variation index is expressed as |1-(FWHM(G) / FWHM(F))| (FWHM(G) is the full width at half maximum of the peak originating from the (10¹) plane in the X-ray diffraction pattern of G, and FWHM(F) is the full width at half maximum of the peak originating from the (10¹) plane in the X-ray diffraction pattern of F).
