AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing oral compositions containing berberine suffer from decreased viscosity and shape retention issues, leading to difficulties in maintaining shape on a toothbrush and potential dripping, as well as excessive shape retention that causes the composition to drop off.

Method used

Incorporating specific ratios of water-soluble polymers, berberine, and nonionic surfactants into the oral composition, including xanthan gum, carrageenan, alginate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, ethylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, hydroxymethylcellulose, agar, polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid ester, polyglycerin fatty acid ester, polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene copolymer, sorbitan fatty acid ester, glycerin fatty acid ester, and sucrose fatty acid ester, to enhance shape retention and astringency.

Benefits of technology

The composition achieves high astringency and ease of application to a toothbrush, while maintaining shape retention and preventing dripping, thereby enhancing user experience and oral microbiome improvement.

Abstract

To provide an oral composition that has a high astringent effect and is easy to apply to a toothbrush. [Solution] An oral composition comprising: (A) component: at least one water-soluble polymer selected from the group consisting of xanthan gum, carrageenan, alginate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, ethylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, hydroxymethylcellulose, and agar; (B) component: berberine; and (C) component: at least one nonionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid ester, polyglycerin fatty acid ester, polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene copolymer, sorbitan fatty acid ester, glycerin fatty acid ester, and sucrose fatty acid ester, wherein the content of component (A) is 1.4 to 3.5% by mass of the total mass of the oral composition.
