Abstract

A group of catalysts for oxygen evolution reactions (OER) under alkaline conditions is disclosed. These catalysts are less expensive than IrCh catalysts because they utilize elements that are abundant on Earth. These catalysts can be used in the anode of an anion exchange membrane water electrolytic cell. The novel catalyst group comprises Ni, Fe, M, B, and O, where M is a metal from groups VIB and VIII of the periodic table, and elements 57-71. These catalysts have a layered double hydroxide structure. Methods for producing these catalysts are also described.
