Control management of an optical phased array with multiple light source ports
The time-division multiplexing technique in optical phased arrays addresses the limitations of one-dimensional control by using a single laser at a time and passive couplers, enhancing beam steering range and reducing optical losses and control complexity.

Abstract
Steering light includes providing each light wave tuned over each different wavelength within each different time slot from multiple light source ports, radiating at least a portion of light from at least one optical phased array including multiple optical phase shifters and multiple optical lattice antennas, distributing at least a portion of the light using at least one optical distribution network (ODN), and coupling at least a portion of the light using at least one optical coupler (OC), wherein the at least one ODN includes one or more ODN input ports and two or more ODN output ports, each coupled to each different optical phase shifter among the multiple optical phase shifters, and the at least one OC includes at least one OC input port coupled to one light source port among the multiple light source ports and at least one OC output port coupled to one ODN input port among the one or more ODN input ports.
