To provide a manufacturing method of a lighting device which has high uniformity of light emission intensity and is capable of easily manufacturing a thin lighting device, a surface light source device, a display device, and such a lighting device.SOLUTION: A surface emitting device 20 includes a plurality of light-emitting units 22 arranged on a substrate 21, and a diffusing unit 23 formed at a position corresponding to the light-emitting unit 22 on the light emitting side of the light-emitting unit 22 and having a diffusing action of diffusing light.
